I cannot believe I've lived in Reno for nearly 10 years and never had Laughing Planet until last week?! I liked it so much I went two days in a row and got the same thing both times! This review is based solely on the Comfort Bowl and first impressions of service/ambiance. First off, the Comfort Bowl!! It's the food of my dreams, truly (I'm a huge sucker for rice and bean bowls). I am lactose intolerant, so the option for vegan cheese and sour cream was awesome. I had never had vegan sour cream, and it was great! I then made the bowl un-vegan by adding pulled pork for extra protein. What makes this dish stand out is the green NY sauce that comes with it. I believe it's a nutritional yeast sauce and incredibly addictive! I think I might have to head over for lunch now! The restaurant is clean and vibrant. Very aesthetically pleasing. The patio is also a lovely option. The staff is super helpful and cheerful, whether the restaurant is packed or not. I used to love Laughing Planet but the last several months they have gone downhill. I noticed the food portions have really gotten smaller, but the prices have gone up. The food is lacking seasoning too. Counter help could use some training and realize without the customers they would not have a job. It used to be a fun place to go, and my friends and I would go a couple times a week. 10/10 highly recommend every single time! We love Laughing Planet so much and are never disappointed when we visit. The guacamole is bright and fresh as if it had been prepared table side. In the past I have also enjoyed many of their burritos and wraps that have been equally exceptional as the recent Korean BBQ Bowl. Pretty much just go there, close your eyes and point to something. You won't regret it. I love the clean and inviting open atmosphere. There's alot of space for everyone including large groups. The artwork seen throughout the space is beautiful, bright and creative. As for the service from the staff, they are all so nice amazing people. We have never had a bad experience and always leave more than satisfied. My go-to for lunch or brunch when in Midtown and Greatfull gardens has too long of a wait. I love the laid-back vibe and casual bar seating almost as much as their decor. My most recent visit was with my cousin from out of town and her children and of course myself and my children; we had a party of 7. The kids were impressed with their chicken quesadillas and beans. My cousin and I ordered two chicken paleo bowls, and my kids ordered two orders of their salsa and queso with chips and bean and cheese burritos. Some time had lapsed since my last visit there, but my tasebuds were overwhelmed with all of the fresh flavors in our bowls. We ordered cookies for the kids to eat on the way back to my car. **Do pay attention to the signs. You might find yourself on one way road and pay to park parking. ** If you're looking for a local spot for lunch in Midtown, check them out. They offer a more vegan and paleo friendly menu, and they don't dig too deep into your pockets. Although it took a while for us to even order, I knew our food would be worth it. There were food delivery drivers waiting by the bar and a full line behind us. There was only one girl running and trying to aid everyone. We felt for her. She was doing her best! They gave us our drinks, chips, and queso for the long wait. We came in during the normal work week and caught their lunch rush. I recommend ordering ahead if you're pushed for time. I ordered the Bollywood bowl and a side of chips and salsa . The bowl was delicious. It was hardy, filling, full of flavor and healthy at the same time. The salsa is also good and spicy. However, my only complaint is the chips we got were mostly crushed into dime-sized chips. I don't know if it was that we got the bottom of the bag or if they got crushed in transit so that kinda sucked. I will say for the ones that weren't crushed they were a thicker corn tortilla chip so we may give it another try in the future. If your looking for healthier options but want to fill satiated then absolutely give them a try. You won't be disappointed. I'm sad to have downgraded Laughing Planet and took a day to make sure I was not overreacting. Was looking forward to having lunch there yesterday (Saturday) and got there just a little bit after opening, 11:10 AM. I think I might have been the 3rd customer since opening that day. I was surprised at how dirty the restaurant was with food on the floors and food on the chairs. It was obvious that the restaurant had not been cleaned prior to opening. I watched a server walk past a napkin on the floor a few times and there was a poster on the floor that everyone was ignoring. It wasn't until another worker picked up the napkin. My tempeh burrito was good, no complaints, but my son's comfort bowl looked liked 3 spoonful of items were thrown in the bowl and did not look very comforting to me. Very small serving of black beans, rice, salsa, sour cream, avocado, and olives. Seems like the pride of ownership has faded a bit with this restaurant. The menu here is everything I love. I ordered the sumac salad and it was delish- fresh veg and yummy dressing. It was supposed to come with roasted cauliflower but was missing from my order. B ordered the Bubba burrito which was supposed to come with chipotle BBQ sauce, but they were out. I understand that there are supply issues everywhere, but would have been nice for them to let us know. We placed the order for delivery on their website and got the email confirmation that our order was received and would be delivered in ~45 minutes. After waiting over an hour, I called and the person on the phone seemed confused about if they even offered delivery and how the delivery service worked. She said our order was ready and was just sitting there. For some reason they never bothered to call us to let us know that they were no longer offering delivery. We ended up driving over to pick it up. A day later, they kindly refunded the delivery charge. Good food but confusing service. I'm always drawn to the seasonal bowls. Typically they're the most interesting. Also, who doesn't love a limited time offer? This time it was a vindaloo bowl with braised greens, pickled onions, stewed lentils, slow cooked pork, raita, and a vindaloo sauce that was spicy and pungent in all the right ways. I was off pork for a bit and asked if they'd sub in their beef and they did with no issue. I loved every bite, but I must say my wife's harvest bowl had me a little jealous! Service was friendly and efficient. Due to COVID the dining room is closed but they boast two patios, and we sat outside. Worth noting that shade is at a premium. I felt like the food came out a little slow too. We were quoted 15 minutes for our order, so we took a stroll and when we returned it still wasn't ready for quite a while. I reeeeeally want to love this place. But I can't give more than a 2 star review. The spot: One of the main reasons I give this place 2 stars is because of their really bad gnat problem. My family and I sat outside in the back outdoor patio. We were all being attacked by so many of them, all over our drinks and food. It was so difficult to enjoy anything. We were literally fishing them out of our drinks. We moved to the front patio area, it was pretty much the same. The restaurant really needs to attack this infestation problem. It was unfortunate to watch so many other customers spending time swatting these annoying little bugs away from their dinner too. They have a bike rack in the front patio. Plenty of parking. They also have a pretty big indoor seating area too. The food: Due to the crazy gnat problem, we ended up ordering the rest of our food to go. The tacos are fairly good, but a little overpriced for what you get. We tried all flavors: pork, beef, and mushroom. I don't have a favorite, they were equally okay. They could be better. A lot more tortilla than filling. The pretty basic BBQ chicken quesadilla was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. We ordered a few bowls, but we spent more time trying to get rid of the bugs, I didn't get to take a photo. The drinks: They didn't have too many alcohol options available. Only 3 beer options, 1 cider, and wine. The wine is served in a 5 oz. glass for $6, definitely overpriced for a small serving. After 1 glass, they ended up running out. So for someone that doesn't drink beer, the basic apple cider was the only option available. We also tried the Green Dream Smoothie, it would have been better if there weren't so many chunks of ginger. We had to fish the pieces out. We ended up having to go to a different spot for drinks. I've dined here personally, but today was the first order I've placed for our leadership team/company. LP's online ordering/payment process is easy, but what REALLY made the whole experience memorable, was order pick-up. Admittedly, because it was my first experience ordering with them online, I didn't know what to expect. Was the order ready? Was it correct? Was it good? Were they going to point to the food and not acknowledge me and my questions? All I can say is that Carmen had me at hello. She greeted me warmly and even joked around (which I loved)! Our order was ready, accurately labeled as requested, and she efficiently helped me make a few last minute adjustments. I have frequented Laughing Planet over the years and myself and friends have always enjoyed the food. I particularly love the smoothies and the mango habanero salsa! This time, I ordered three burritos to go and a few cookies. The burritos are always delicious, I usually order the grilled chicken burrito and add the mango habanero salsa inside. My friends ordered the Tempeh Royale (adding vegan cheese), and SW Green Chili burrito (adding beef), and they both said they were great. The cookies were also a hit and really big. I like that there are vegan cookies also. I love that things are customizable, and I appreciate the vegan substitutes and options! With that being said, with the multiple times of me eating here, my burrito has been made wrong a few times. Enough for me to remember and always double check it. I usually add the mango habanero salsa, and take the pico de gallo off. There have been times where there was pico on half the burrito, like the person remembered to take it off halfway. This time, there was no salsa on the burrito OR on the side which I would have been fine with. Since it wasn't on the side, I just assumed it was in the burrito. The burrito was still good regardless. The restaurant has great seating on the inside, out front, and there is a back patio. I really enjoy sitting outside when the weather is nice, or on the inside when the big front window is open. Parking is difficult at peak times, which is common for Midtown. read more

Last time I ordered food from Laughing Planet was during Covid and the restaurant was shut down, but ordering food through a walk up window. So this tells you I haven't been there for a long time. I'm eating healthy these days so during my visit to Midtown it seemed like a good choice. I stepped in around 3 p.m. and the dining room was vacant which made ordering quick and simple. I thought the mushroom taco sounded good ,ordering one to try it out .. A combination of button and oyster mushrooms, guacamole and sliced radish for $4.50 , I needed more so the Comfort bowl was my main Entree choice Priced at $ 12.75. So I sat down and I was served within 10 minutes or so. The taco didn't have much filling, but it tasted good and was gone in three bites. I would call it really skimpy for the price.. So now comes the bowl, I regret not taking a photo of this bowl.. The ingredients were Brown Rice, Black beans, avocado, sour cream, Black olives and cilantro. It was served with a sauce dubbed NYC sauce which was green and mildly seasoned. Well... the black beans and olives being predominant here. Maybe a 3oz. tin of olives dumped in there, overkill ! The flavorless Black beans, again skimpy on avocado and cilantro and a basically flavorless bowl. I walked over to where the condiments were and grabbed an empty bottle of hot sauce, had the girl find me a new bottle and I sprinkled the sauce over it to Amp up this Bean/ Rice bowl of bland. I was disappointed in the meal all the way around sorry to say.. I'm thinking that maybe I just ordered the wrong things.. Possibly someone needs to step in and work on flavoring the food. So, I love Taco Bell.... but now that I no longer have the metabolism of a teenager, Taco Bell doesn't love me. Enter, the Laughing Planet CRUNCHERO. It's basically a healthy(ish) cruchwrap that you can feel good about. There's so much flavor packed in with the avocado crema, and it's generously sized and very filling. I was worried I'd miss the meat that a typical cruchwrap has, but I'm happy to say I didn't even notice it wasn't there. The Berry Berry Good smoothie was also delightful and a nice change from "normal" beverages offered. Parking can be a bit tough but have some patience or order ahead and enjoy! read more
