My bf took me here one night and it was so good! The chef makes unusual buttery sauces that are so bomb. The owner is really nice too and even though he was clearly busy he came to chat with us and make sure we had everything we needed. There are a lot of creative rolls to choose from as well as the classics. This spot has a real local feel. I live in Chula Vista but came up to vista to pay a ticket I received a month ago. I searched for a sushi spot and this place immediately caught my eye. The rolls are a bit pricey but they were definitely filling. At first glance this place is small. But so much character! You could tell a lot of thought went in to the menu and the restaurant. Beautiful artwork on the walls and the menu. I literally went just for the "you mad bro" roll which had lobster and garlic sauce! I love garlic!!! I love that they did accommodate my request for no rice and they gave me no hassle at all. But once I got there there were soooo many great rolls that had me second guessing what to order. I have despised sushi throughout my lifetime and it wasn't until discovering Sushi4Reel, that I've actually loved and now CRAVE sushi. My girlfriend and I come weekly, and both of us being anti sushi in the past, have slowly but surely loved and enjoyed every roll we have tried. The environment is definitely going to feel odd your first time through, but once you give it a chance, Joohan will make you feel more of a friend than a customer. He greets us every time we come in, shakes our hand, and regularly asks us about life and how we're doing. We have a usual order of the "Chicken Udon" (my personal favorite), "Paradise" sushi roll, Gyoza, and "Crunchy" sushi roll. We don't break the bank with what seems like a huge order, and we top it all off with this DELICIOUS fried ice cream with this to die for strawberry sauce. Picked up to-go and could tell the second they handed me the bag after waiting 30 mins over the quoted time that this was my first and last time spending money here. The shrimp Yakisoba looks like a single packet of top ramen with no veggies and a few pieces of chopped shrimp. The California and rainbow roll had what amounted to a single slice of avocado on both rolls. Great reviews so wondering if Valentines was not their day. We are sushi fanatics and decided to try this hole in the wall. Little did we know it was a diamond in the rough. Almost drove by because it's in a shopping center and i tend to be a little more "boujee" when it comes to sushi places, but took a chance and i will never look back. The fish was incredibly fresh, the service was quick, the rolls were creative yet cohesive. I was beyond impressed with the chef/owner. He deserves to be at a Michelin star restaurant. However, today it seems that under the new ownership or at least the people running the place when I came have not upheld the prestige it once had. I ordered a sashimi roll and a charger roll and when I opened the box I came across a sushi plate that looked like had been sitting for hours. I called back to ask and was told that the reason it looked brown was because it was the higher-end tuna, "like Toro", the hostess/waitress said, after speaking to the chef. Came here for a family dinner, party of 10, split checks and all. Food: can't complain, there's a variety of specialty rolls they have on their menu-we were a huge party so we pretty much ordered every kind. Although all rolls are fresh and have their unique flavors I would say the standout would have to be the Dream. The chicken katsu bowl was amazing and a huge serving-the rice was the standout as I am Asian and very particular to the way rice is cooked (great job to the cooks)! Restaurant: cleanliness is always a plus and the staff here keeps up with it. The decor is hip and modern-murals on the walls are nice. This place only seats a good 20/25 people so it's real small, wait time could take a while if it's at capacity. There was a big party waiting there for a good half hour while we were finishing up too. Patience is a virtue. Only weird thing is probably the tables set up in the hallway that leads to the bathroom, it's kind of a tight space and the loud techno music that was playing was not "poppin." Staff: there were a bunch of employees here on a Friday night. Service was smooth. There is plenty of plaza parking but I will fair warn you now this place may start selling out seats so get in there while you can before it turns into Reservations only lol! I came in at lunch today and was greeted as soon as I entered. The place was clean, had hip decor and the music playing made you want to get up and dance. I would say hipster mixed with new age fusion! I could taste it all this made me shake my head yes! Finally!!! This is my spot!!! One bite had me drawn in to this unique prepping and preparing of sushi! I am a very happy girl! I admit, I am a sushi snob, old school. I have not had fish this fresh, this delicious since I left San Francisco 5 years ago, and believe me I've looked! The nigiri jumbo scallop (hotate), the amberjack, the escolar, the sea bream and salmon were all superb! All extremely fresh. I hardly ever see amberjack! The interior is stunning. The anime mural, the richly colored epoxy floors, the tile back splash at the sushi bar is high end and greatly thought out. Clean and lovely. Service was also spot on. What a most very pleasant surprise! I hope they do extremely well. Yes, the prices are just a tad higher but one is definitely paying for the quality and the fact that fresh fish gets delivered daily. My only tiny negative is that I felt the music was a bit loud. Sushi4Reel is new business that boasts a modern Japanese American atmosphere and theme. It's a small establishment that can seat about 20. Not sure if they have a Happy Hour as I came with a friend during a weekday around dinner time. We were promptly greeted and our waitress was super friendly/attentive . We ordered some beer, saki, 2 house special combos (#1 & 2) and of course, some Sushi. We ordered a spicy tuna, California and Homeless roll. The Homeless roll was pretty good but not $16.50 good IMO. The Portions/roll sizes were healthy and the quality of food was good. Our bill was a bit higher compared to other places in the area for similar items ordered and you could tell they're just (opening) getting started but hey, that's normal for a new business. We'll be back to see how they've come along and to check out their lunch specials. We didn't check out their restrooms either. 3 stars for now and an update to come on the near future! read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon to meet the hubby for an early dinner. There was no customers inside and the waitress greeted and sat the kids and me. That place was bumping music as if you were in a club, it was loud, and the music was modern. Nice place for maybe a date night but not relax mode if you have small children. Not a lot of seats, looks like they have 26 seats for occupancy. (there was a party of 12 that came in and started to get warm in there but it isn't to much of a deterrent. They are a bit on the pricey side but the portions are adequate to justify it. Décor is hip and modern; the arylic floor in the bathroom was cool (brought to my attention via my 3yr old) Feels like this place should be in like downtown San Diego, but its in peaceful quiet Oceanside. hope this place blooms and gets the support of the O'siders. I was expecting different from this place. The atmosphere is nice, it's a small place and its decorated nicely. They have a extensive menu, LOTS of rolls and options. I went in for mainly sushi and end up ordering 6 rolls because everything looked amazing. I was disappointed, only because I think they covered up so much of the actual fish flavor and it tasted very heavy, also the sauces seemed unidentifiable- kinda bland. Some of the fish in the rolls wasn't cold which is a pet peeve of mine cause it tastes less fresh to me- I did get a piece of fish that didn't have a hefty amount of sauce and it tasted really good. Usually I am a huge fan of those rolls but they over did it. Maybe I will get nigiri next time... However I don't think I'll be back because the prices were also very steep. read more

Dream Garlic Edamame Reel Lemon Roll House Special Rolls My husband & I enjoyed dinner here immensely. The food was fresh, delicious, & made with care & skill. I hate when restaurants bring out your main plates only a couple of minutes after your appetizer. The rolls were brought out right as they were made which was perfect. I bookmarked this spot a month ago and I finally had the chance to stop in to try it out. Walking up I was nervous because the inside does not match the outside at all. The amazing paintings on the wall really catch your attention and make create the perfect back drop to their sushi rolls. Food: We ordered the bad boy roll and sashimi R roll which is like a protein roll no rice. Loved the sashimi r roll it was very refreshing great flavor. Bad boy also very fresh but it was just missing something in the sauce. It could of used a nice kick of flavor. Prices are about average and comparable to other places. Atmosphere and service: Music is bumping and its very casual here. The place is a bit small only seats 27. I counted 6 small tables and the bar in the front. They have two more tables in the back hallway. They also have televisions up to keep you entertained while you wait for your food. The art is such a great vocal point we couldn't stop looking at it. The owner was super nice and he kept checking on us to make sure everything was good. The food came out fairly quick. This is defiantly a new contender in my sushi book, the convenient location close to my place is a plus. We would like to come back to try some more rolls. read more

Santana my sushi artist did a phenomenal job. He is a true artist in his craft. For "Reel" I am blown away... Honestly hands down, this was best sushi experience I have ever had. I do not say that lightly. I have had sushi that I ranked at the top of my Pescatarian list. But this was on a whole other level. I'm hooked, no pun intended. Decided to give this place a try instead of our usual Teri cafe. It was incredibly small i almost walked out as soon as i walked in. We had to sit near the rest room . The service was great she kept coming and asking if we needed refills on drinks and how was everything. We both got the bento box mine had salmon. Pretty cool little tray. I just wish there was a larger portion of rice and my salmon was tiny. I asked if they had fried rice and she said it comes with the white. The tempura was really greasy. The hand cut spicy Tuna roll tasted fresh and yummy. We also tried from the sushi menu the Super Homeless roll and the soft shell crab that was laid on top of the roll was spectacular and cooked perfectly with amazing sauces to savor and create a mouthwatering experience by utilizing their homemade spicy mayo and Santana special sauces for a powerfully pact one two combo punch! Not a huge fan of this place but it's a decent place to stop and eat! Rolls are drenched in what tastes like salad dressing. It's good but you can't taste the fish. Their prices are also pretty fair. We got one of their "secret" rolls, Crown J. It was alright. A little bit overpriced for the taste. Also found a few bones. What does stand out is the staff. They work hard and the waiters are quick and are extremely friendly! It is Vista area though so I didn't expect amazing quality sushi. Still worth checking this place out. First time here and I loved it! Got the jalapeño poppers, gyoza, and bulgogi appetizer. Not being a big fan of seafood, I was absolutely in love with the crab filled poppers. The gyoza was so amazing, perfectly cooked and the stuffing was juicy. Bulgogi had such a good texture and it melted in my mouth. Boyfriend got a roll and said the seafood was amazingly fresh and good. This place does not skimp out on quality and the server (who i assume is the owner) really went out of his way to male sure we were happy.
