I love sushi 9, been coming here for at least 7-8 years. First off, the service here is always welcoming and friendly. I have never had bad service here. It is a cozy little restaurant as well. Their Tom Yum soup is my absolute favorite. I have sampled a good deal of their menu and it all comes out hot / fresh with excellent flavor. Their sushi rolls hit as well. Food is always amazing. I love the almond chicken! Sushi is great! This is a small restaurant with only one or two servers. Each time I go I have to really work to get the server's attention. They are definitely not "attentive" to my family's needs when we visit. I have to ask for more iced tea, ask for the check, etc. If you have time - give it a try - for the food! read more

The best way to get here is to turn from Schillenger onto Old Government and then into the side entrance. Playing Schillenger Roulette is taking your life into your hands. The parking lot is small, but I have never seen it not have at least one space. Offsite parking would again be madness with your safety. We were greeted immediately from behind the sushi counter and invited to take a seat, but not officially seated by anyone. There are perhaps 10 tables and a small sushi counter. There were two other tables occupied. Chopsticks, menus and napkins were unceremoniously dropped on the table and our drink orders taken. Tea and water mind you. After another group sat themselves and then left 10 minutes later, we had our drinks. I had squid salad for an appetizer. It was absolutely delicious. It was on the sweet side, but enough acid to compensate and I was pleased. My wife ordered Tom Ka for her entree. I had a bowl of it. You could taste the lemongrass and it had enough fish sauce to give it a pungent aroma. Again, delicious. My daughter dislikes miso, so I was able to try that as well. Again, delicious. Sushi ordered was spicy crawfish - which wasn't spicy at all but tasty; super crunchy roll which was tasty but not spectacular; and a War Eagle Roll that I rather enjoyed as the sashimi that enveloped it was absolutely delicious. I was sad that Americans insist on cream cheese in every roll and Sushi 9 accommodates this horrid practice. Guys, a lot of us LOVE the taste of sushi without cream cheese. I had tofu curry as an entree. Pleasantly spicy, but I would have preferred the tofu fried with at least some flavor. My daughter has sesame chicken which was a 9 out of 10. Total bill was over $100 for 3. Had to ask for drink refills. Plates were left on the table. Overall? I will not return because of the service and because every sushi item was slam filled with cream cheese. This place was highly recommended. While the flavors were ok, they weren't $100 and the service DEFINITELY was not. read more

I'm giving this restaurant a 3 star because I didn't love or hate it. We were basically the only people there 30 minutes after opening, and the food took about 20 minutes to prepare. The actually sushi was fresh and good. Based on other sushi restaurants, there was double the "topping" on these rolls which overpowered the sushi roll. I would only go back to this restaurant if it was more convenient than other sushi restaurants. read more

Brand new sushi & thai place in WeMo and I am thrilled. They are located right next to Cheeburger Cheeburger on the west side of Schillinger (near Target). I believe they just opened mid-January. The menu and the sign says they are open 7 days a week (which would be good for those Sunday night sushi cravings), but I noticed a temporary sign put up in the window, saying they won't be open on Sundays temporarily. I haven't tried any of the thai dishes yet, but will in the future. I've had a few of their sushi rolls and few of their apps (fried tofu, summer rolls... wow were those good, they are a MUST try). The sushi rolls are not bad.... nothing spectacular, but will do. Seems like an over-abundance of cream cheese on the list of rolls tho. Not overly-expensive either. The little restaurant feels brand new, and some of the decor and tables feels a bit cheap, but I'm guessing they are just starting out small to begin with. I'd imagine starting out a restaurant is pretty expensive. I do really like the elephant wall hangings. Service is quick and friendly. I guess I like this place mostly because it is so close to my house. With their proximity to places like Target and Panera, they should get some traffic and hopefully do well. This used to be one of my favorite spots in town. The service is always good. The food is always good. My reason for one star comes from my experience today. I sat at the sushi bar (as I have always ordered sushi from here) and watched the sushi chef use his iPhone with gloves on and then proceed to make my sushi containing RAW FISH with the same gloves on that he handled his cell phone with. I'm sorry, but I just will not roll the dice, ESPECIALLY, with raw dishes. These things make me consider the wider food safety practices of an establishment and I usually steer clear of them in the future. read more

Makes me a little sad to see their star ratings is so low but maybe it's because I come here for the other stuff besides the sushi. I only eat cooked sushi and my son has a high allergy to avocado but they always make the sushi the way I ask. So I'm not upset ! Their fried rice is really good here regardless on the type of meat you get. Shrimp tempura [by the piece] is always good and extremely fresh... that's one thing about this place everything is made to order! It's not just sitting around to be brought out to your table. Fried dumplings are good and shu-mai are good. Crab Rangoon my kids take a huge liking to... For an all you can eat sushi joint it's low cost and I've been here a few times already. This was my first time dining here and unfortunately I am not sure we will return. We were sat right away but it took the server at least 10 minutes to get our drink order. We informed him we were ready to order and he told us "no he was just going to take our drink order first." No smile, nothing. Our drinks finally came but definitely had a hard time getting refills during meal. It was a very long lunch. It took forever to get our food and afterwards to get the check and have them processed. I am glad I didn't have anywhere i had to be at a certain time afterwards.... Food was ok. We were looking for someplace new to try near the Carmike and were thrilled to find that Sushi 9 was open. It was perfect for our group of friends as we have people who are very passionate about sushi - the passionately love it or passionately hate it! Most of us has sushi last night though one person ordered off the Thai portion of the menu. We were all very pleased with what we ordered - the sushi rolls were moderately priced (the prices range from 10-13 dollars each) which is a little expensive in Mobile but they make the rolls so that you certainly get your money's worth. (I ordered two rolls, next time I think I'll just get one.) I tried the Who Dat Roll and the Volcano Roll and both were flavorful, with a good firm texture (I hate rolls that fall apart). I suspect that we'll be back at Sushi 9 often! read more

We love this family owned restaurant. We love the shrimp Pad Thai and the famous caterpillar roll. We only get to this part of town a couple of times a month and it amazes me that the staff remember what we like to eat and drink. Thomas is the sushi chef and his sushi is the best in Mobile. Service wasnt good. Not even a hello. Fish was paper thin sliced on sushi rolls and didnt look fresh. Also the rolls are mostly rice. The sushi chef hardly stuffs them and it just tasted blah. We do takeout from this place often and have never been disappointed. We mainly stick to the rolls (Volcano, California, etc) and they are all delicious. My hub is a daredevil and likes the raw stuff, and he always loves what he gets. We ate inside the restaurant for the first time last week because my 10 yr old requested sushi for his bday dinner (gotta love that!) Service was quick and I guess as friendly as it gets. I agree, the decor is a mixed bag of cool and cheap. But who cares when the sushi is this good!! The veg tempura was light and airy. I didn't mean to, but I ate all of it by myself... The prices are a bit high at first glance, but the portion sizes are huge. I gave 5 stars because apparently there is such a thing is bad sushi here in Mobile, and this place definitely is NOT one of those places!! read more

I was really pumped about this place Bc a friend had recommended it. However it didn't not live up to my expectations. The Thai tee was extremely sweet, much more sweet than a normal Thai tee. I couldn't taste anything but sugar. We got the sushi 9 special boat. The miso soup was so salty that we couldn't eat it. It tasted like they just had boiled up some soy sauce and threw some mushroom and tofu in it. We were really excited to get our sushi boat but we didn't get a boat. We got told that the boat has been worn out and therefore they no longer use it. Would have been nice to know. The fish was semi fresh but I have fresher sushi before in Mobile. The service was very low quality. We didnt get our waters refilled and we asked for new chopsticks and only got 1. If you want good service and great sushi, this is not your place. read more

The outside appeal was alright and so was the parking. The service was good and fast. I had the beef pepper steak dinner for lunch. It was the best pepper steak I have ever had! It was amazingly flavorful.... Every bite. The portion size was average but bursting with flavor. My girl got the Tomyum and she said it was okay. Sushi 9 serves Thai, Japanese and Chinese dishes which are always executed perfectly. It's one of our favorite places to order food to-go or delivery through Dapper Deliveries and Waitr. Ive had a lot of thai, This isnt anything remarkable. Ordered spring rolls and red curry. Ok lets do this, sounds good. Spring rolls were boring, lack flavor and minimal cabbage and whatever else ingredients, flavor tastes of deep fried crust. Red curry with chicken and mixed veggies. Broccoli, green pepper and carrots overcooked, soft. Canned baby corn in a can, added to hot liquid, not allowed to cook, also canned bamboo shoots, added without letting get hot. Bland and can tasting. Chicken is a disappointment, Seems boiled or in a can, slimy and cooked with watered down coconut milk. Listen, its not difficult dish to prepare. you add the curry cook it add veggies and all ingredients and some water, cook tnen add your base and steam, serve. This was all boiled to death and I wouldnt try it here again. Try again guys. Oh and the peanut sauce, do not use peanut butter and blend it together with familiar ingredients. This was a watery brown fluid that smells like peanut butter. Gross. read more

This used to be one of my favorite sushi restaurant's in Mobile until one night that I had a date who had never been there before. My date received his food so, I told him to go ahead and eat and that it should be here in a minute. Fifteen minutes later, no sushi. We were the third table in the entire place and the sushi chef and waitress were chatting. I finally got her attention and she said "oh, what did you order." Finally, another ten minutes later I received my food and took it home since my date was finished eating. As we paid, I asked if we could get a discount for her forgetting my order and us having to wait for an hour and she laughed in my face. On top of that, I never received any kind of apology. We ordered crab Rangoon and egg rolls. Both were COLD! The Rangoon tasted "peculiar". Got home and warmed our curry dishes (understandably cold by the time) They just weren't good. Didn't taste like any curry dish I've had before. Was our 1st time and LAST TIME. Felt like I just completely wasted 45.00. This has to be the worst Thai/Japanese food I have ever eaten. The red curry was just spice. There was hardly any flavor. I also ordered chicken teriyaki which is usually ok at best at most places. This teriyaki had so much oil, the chicken was literally swimming in it. I am very disappointed in this restaurant. Please try Charm if you want a good Thai place cause this is not it. read more

She charged me for the item I didn't eat and for the second dish. She then asked had I had that dish there before. This little restaurant is very welcoming when you walk in and it doesn't fail to impress! The owner and staff are amazingly accomodating and the sushi is wonderful. After eating quite a bit of sushi around town, I would say that Sushi 9 has THE best sushi in Mobile. They have raw rolls, fried rolls, baked rolls, and rolls that are topped with hot and flavorful delights like noodles or shrimp.
