So the sushi here is pretty good but not great, I would actually give them 3.5 stars on the food alone if that was possible. I'm a fan of fried sushi and a big fan of their fried St Louis roll. It's a nice little spot in a strip mall at the corner of Hwy K & N in O'Fallon, MO. Normally I round up when I'm rating a business to give them the benefit of the doubt but this time I rounded down. Why you ask? There were three tables of people waiting and three empty tables that needed to be bused. And although they only have only about ten tables we still waited almost fifteen minutes to be seated. Now if the staff was super busy serving people that would be one thing but two servers were chatting that whole time and the guy with long hair was guarding the cash register like he was afraid someone was going to swipe it. Sushi Ai offered later delivery than Korean House (bento house?) so I ordered three rolls, 5 pieces of nigiri, and a spicy miso soup. Took about an hour for delivery through Seamless. Salmon skin roll was terrible due to the over fried salmon skin. World series roll is described as tuna, salmon, and yellowtail but it's mushed up nonsense of panko crumbs and spicy mayo. Volcano roll had deep fried crab topped with avocado, tuna, and eel. I picked at the roll and found the rice was red under the pieces of tuna. Along with that, all the rice was soggy from all the diluted eel sauce used. The nigiri was better but each piece was overpacked with rice. The hotate (big scallop), eel, and spicy mayo scallop were great while the surf clam was fine and the salmon nigiri puny. Delivery was $5 for Sushi Ai. I don't recommend Sushi Ai for the overpacked rice, small pieces of fish, and terrible rolls. read more

So disappointed! I just picked up Sushi Ai for lunch. I tried the bento box for the first time because it seems like such a great value for everything you're getting! But the soup was cold, sushi was warm, and the salad was just meh. The best part unfortunately was the crab rangoon and white rice. The steak and veggie part almost had a teriyaki soupy sauce on it, it spilled everywhere. There also wasn't a lot of steak there and the veggies weren't cooked long enough. We have had friends that have gone there and have complained about missing food items, long wait times to get your food, and generally poor service. Tonight we experienced all of the above. I have visited their other locations in Maryland heights and downtown many of time and the sushi and food is always amazing! Well me and boyfriend decided to try this location as I had some the other day from other location and he tried it for first time and was In love. Needless to say we came to this one as was in the area and all I can say is never again. The rolls were so loose and poorly assembled that you couldn't even use chopsticks to eat them as they fell apart soon as picked up. Then they did not taste nowhere near as good as the other locations. The St. Louis roll which is our favorite wasn't even prepared right and it was only 4 pieces not the 6 and was so sloppily put together I didn't even eat but 2 pieces out the 4 different rolls we ordered. The fried rice didn't even have as much flavor and was dry. Very disappointed after spending over $60 not to mention I got sick after I ate it hours later. I use to eat here like at least once a week. Food is always pretty good! You really can't beat the price for the sushi lunch special of $12.99 for all you can eat. I usually try a lot of different rolls. One of my favorite one is Salmon with avocado and American Dream Roll which has shrimp tempura. I enjoy coming here after a good workout and enjoy there sushi for unbeatable price. The only thing is it's a hit and miss with servers, most of the time we have the same one who can be nice and next day be rude. I used GrubHub app to place an order last night with Sushi Ai. Food arrived within an hour of the order but they forgot one of the items in the order. Also the salmon roe was SPOILED. I'm just glad I didn't get food poisoning from this place. This is so strange to me because I never had such problems ordering from the Zumbehl location. The only "safe" things in my order were the ebi nigiri and the masago. However they jam-packed the masago nigiri with mostly rice and the small amount of masago was spilling everywhere. Also the rice itself was terrible. Believe it or not, sushi rice is just as important as the other ingredients. It was kind of mushy and they didn't use enough seasoning (not enough vinegar!) Was very unappetizing. Yakitori for my boyfriend was TINY like we're talking maybe 4 tiny pieces of meat on a couple of skewers. Not worth the $10 I paid so I can't recommend ordering this. He said it tasted alright but definitely not worth the price. They did refund me for the roll they forgot to deliver and for the one salmon roe (ikura) nigiri that was spoiled. Delivery guy was very polite and courteous too. I don't hate the place but I doubt I would ever order anything "traditional" here again (e.g. I almost ordered some sweet shrimp AKA "amaebi nigiri" and I'm so glad I didn't.) I get the impression people out here only seem interested in ordering the Americanized sushi such as the cream cheese rolls with spicy sauce on them so any of the very traditional ingredients just don't have as much turnover. So my boyfriend asked the host (as soon as we were seated) about the different types of sushi on the all you can eat menu and the host walked away with no explanation. We assumed he just didn't hear us and waited for the server. When the server appeared she was curt and took our orders in a hurry. Fast forward to when my boyfriend received his food...it was wrong. Instead of simply rectifying the situation she argued with him. She told him that it was "his choice" and that basically she hadn't been asked about the menu so it wasn't her problem. When I received my food, the order was correct but the amount of meat in the roll was laughable. We will never return to this location and we will make sure to warn everyone we know. I've been coming here for a number of years and you really can't beat the price. All you can eat sushi and apps for $13 at lunch and $22 at dinner is a hell of a deal. If you do it any other way, you're eating here wrong. Yes, the (2) waiters have some type of disposition, but they're probably just bored. They only stop by to pick up a piece of paper with an order and refill drinks and take no more than 5 steps to the maker, and minimal communication with guests...I'd be bored too. Their crab rangoons are served hot and melting which is the way I like it and frankly, some of the best I've had for such a simple item. Only setback to this place is yes, the quality you get it determined by who the sushi chef is and how many people are in this small establishment. The server realized we didn't get our order, brought 2 of the items and forgot the other 2. We decided to just leave, so we went ahead and paid our bill and left. Next time, we'll place one BIG order. The server's and Chef's did their best and we tipped generously, as they deserved it. I can't blame them for slow service. They're run ragged. They need more help! We had Miso soup (bland), Haumaki (pretty good spring rolls), Shumai (tiny enclosed dumplings...fishy...we didn't care for them), Veggie Tempura (very good), Crab Rangoon (excellent). All of the appetizers were piping hot! Loved that! We had fried rolls, sushi, and rolls and they were all fresh and really good. Did we get our $23.99 each worth? No, but it was sure fun trying. Extremely disappointing experience at this location. The St Charles and Maryland Heights locations have always been good, but this was like the idea of stereotypical all ya can eat sushi spot. I got 5 rolls and 3 of the rolls consisted of entirely rice and cream cheese. You could barely see any fish or the other ingredients in any of the rolls.
