8/25/26 We arrived around opening time so we didn't have to wait long which was nice. My mom and I were sat near the front area where they package take out orders which I don't mind at all because I've sat there many times before. Servers were quick and attentive. What wasn't nice was when one of the male workers was packing an order and he dropped one of the take out items onto a plate I had, making it flip and spill all over the counter. It was already a finished plate but of course there was a noticeable amount of leftover grains of rice, onion, and shoyu and some went onto my face as well. I was initially understanding because accidents like that happen and the take out guy said he was sorry, but i expected him to at least wipe the table off the food scraps that knocked over. He didn't end up doing that. He came back multiple times to pack up orders but left my area messy and I didn't have extra napkins to clean it. The other servers came around to fill my water and I could feel them staring at the mess which I didn't make. I also want to clarify that there is a blue tape that separates the dining table and the take out area and my plates weren't over the line. I know that this is the type of restaurant where you could be in and out in less than 30 minutes so they probably thought to deal with it after. But it does leave a certain coldness to the experience.

The host is amazing. 10/10 customer service. I wouldn't recommend going hungry, cause it can be an hour + wait. The nigiri sushi is about $1 more expensive from 10 months ago. About a 20% increase in price. They have large portions and the service is pretty quick once you're inside. It is nice that this time they refilled our water. I got the hamachi, ahi, salmon, and unagi nigiri. Everything was pretty good, but the hamachi had some issues. Hamachi is my go to order in Hawaii, the mainland, Japan, and around the world. I've got to try expensive and cheap and everything in between. This hamachi was tangy and had the hard white membrane in it. Maybe just this specific cut/ batch just wasn't the best. Everything else was pretty good though. To their credit everyone in there is hustling, but it's when people are going fast that things like quality and service fall through the cracks. Like what happened to me last time, happened to an older gentleman next to me this time. He was waiting super long for an order that he put in a couple rounds earlier. Two servers came by and asked if he needed anything and he said just waiting on my order both times. After the second server went to the sushi chefs to put an on the fly order in he finally got his food, but by that time they had already finished eating their meal. We were also seated near the entrance so we got to see the towers of to-go orders that stack up on the counter. They have enough demand. I would highly recommend a second location so that quality and service doesn't decline.

Here is another Kapolei gem. Wait can get well over 45min. You can always tell when the place is legit when there is more locals than tourists. Easy to find in a busy shopping center with ample parking. Clean and inviting. Wait staff are friendly and competent, even with the high dining room turnover. They could have been friendlier, but I am not gonna ding them on it due to the volume that they were dealing with. They checked on us regularly and the table was never empty of food or dink until we were done. Quality of the fish is what I expected on the island-FRESH, vibrant color and so ono. No need to drench it in soy and wasabi. Just experience the tastes of what the local water provided. Prices are fair given today's economy. Sushi Bay has earned a spot on my home island's goto list when I'm back visiting Ohana. Mahalo Nui

The wait was worth it. When we got there at around 2, there was already a long line of people. We waited probably 25 minutes until we got seated. Everything we ordered tasted so good. The karaage was excellent. It took a while to fry but even after we took the leftovers home, it was still pretty tasty! The poke tasted good too, it was a good size serving!

Every time i'm in the area u kinda have to come here period...its bonkers good. I'm just going to update this with more photos so you can just salivate...I think they win by volume but yeah order ahead that is the smart thing to do

I don't know how I've managed to not eat at Sushi Bay, but now that I've tried it, I can never go to Genki again! The sushi was so good and way better than any other "fast food" type sushi (Genki/Kozo). I couldn't believe how big the pieces are, and everything tasted so good. I was worried that the price point would be more than what I pay elsewhere, but I actually ended up spending way less! Service was quick once we got in, but we did wait about an hour on a Saturday right at lunchtime. I like the fact that you can see them making your sushi. Definitely worth making the trek to Kapolei from town. I already want to go again!

Came to Sushi Bay on a saturday and there was a long wait. I took that as a sign that its probably really good. After waiting 45 minutes we got seated but the food came pretty quickly. The raw fish here is pretty good while still being fairly affordable. It was nice to have sushi without breaking the bank. Will probably come back again but on a day without the long wait.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon at 1pm. I put my name down and was seated immediately, which is typically not the case on the weekends. I haven't dined here in a while and I didn't realize how much it changed. We were seated at the counter top but they do have some booths. It is a pretty tight area to navigate and sit in. Service was amazing from the hostess, server, and chef. 10/10 recommend Sushi Bay! I love eating here whether it be dining in or taking out.

Now this is a sushi spot! the nigiris were so delicious and big portions was worth the wait. All the nigiris and sushi were delicious and made fresh. What I especially appreciated was that the server noticed that my first serving of shrimp tempura was a bit sad looking and without me having said anything, she brought me a replacement dish. That proactivness was really great and showed us how much the staff and chefs care about you having a good experience there. We came on a wednesday at 2pm and there was still a bit of a wait, but we are so glad we came because it was absolutely worth it.

As a party of 3, we decided to pop into sushi Bay for a quick late lunch. It was about 3pm in the afternoon and they were still jamming. They are mostly busy with take out orders but the wait to get a seat inside took about 45min. They have multiple booth tables and some counter space, which is where we were seated. Once we were seated, the waitress was prompt with taking our orders. Our food came out relatively quick! I was impressed with the size of this bowl for the price. I'll definitely be returning and getting the bowl again. Very tasty and definitely worth your money! The parking lot is giant so there's always parking available. Sushi Bay is right next to an ice cream shop so you can pop over there for dessert afterwards as well. Overall a good lunch experience! But if you plan to dine in, I suggest going early or be prepared to wait a bit.

Absolutely fresh fish every time we come here!!! Excellent customer service!!! Friendly staffs!!! We came around 1030am to sign in for 1100am opening time. We were one of the last two groups of customers making it into the restaurant for the first round. BYOB They didn't rush us at all!!!

Still my fave even after 7 years. Times has change not much seating for dine in. But there is sitting. But probably better if you just do a pick up. I ordered the mixed don and salmon skin. My two faves. The salmon skin is so delish. Mixed don was super spicy this time or I'm just not use to it anymore. The rice was great with it. There was a lot. Service is always served with Aloha. Parking in huge plaza shared by other restaurants and stores.

Genuinely my friend and I's go to sushi spot! Quality is always on point with a good variety in options. Staff is always very friendly and food comes out really fast. (Super generous portions too) Also super affordable for college students who want to satisfy their sushi craving while not breaking bank.

Ask the Community - Sushi Bay

Is this an all you can eat?

    No, it's all ala carte.

    Are you open December 31st?

Yes, we are open for take out, 10:30-5:45, dine in 11:00-3:00. We will be closed on New Year’s Day, thank you and Happy New Year!

    Do you offer gift cards?

    Yes they have gift cards.

Are you open on the 4th of July?

Yes we are, regular hours: take out 10:30-5:45, dine in 11:00-5:00 Thank you

Do you have eat-in dining and do you open at 10:30 on Mondays?

    Yes and yes

Are there special ours for New Years day?

So sorry just saw your question we were closed today.

Is sushi bay open on DEC. 26?

Yes, we are open from10:30-6pm. Thank you.

Open on Christmas days? Half days?

We are closed on Christmas Day, sorry!

    Dine in open?

Yes. Literally just came from there an hour ago and people were eating inside. Lots of people waiting outside to be seated as well.

    Is dine-in open now?

    Yes!!!

Do they sell their spicy poke and ahi poke by the pound?

I saw about 10 months ago you only do takeout. Is this still the case?

Yes, as of 9/30/21, they're still only doing take-out, and you have to have your order in by 5:45pm.

Open for Dine in or still only take out?

Still only take out. Dining room too small to operate with social distancing. Until protocols are lifted, we will be only take out, sorry!

How many days in advance should I place an order for a platter?

If it’s just one platter we can do it within 30 minutes or less for regular days. On holidays we would like an hour or two, but call in your order and we can let you know then how long it will take. We will make it as soon as possible. Thank you!

How many oz of poke is in the regular spicy tuna don? Also how many cups of rice?

What is the update on Sushi Bay being open during April? I've tried calling multiple times for 30 minutes. It would be nice if they left a message on their phone with any updates so we don't waste our time calling for nothing.

You can check GRUBHUB, they were on it last week for delivery.

Are you open for takeouts during the Pandemic?

They're only open for takeout orders right now.

Is sushi bay going to open for take out only for the month of April?

We are currently closed until further notice out of concern for our staff and customers. When the curves starts flattening, we will open for take out. Thank you for your question and be safe! I will update all yelpers on our opening date, thank you!

    Do they do take outs?

Yes they do. I would highly recommend calling in a take out order so you don't have to wait for a table.

Do you pay per roll? How much money would you typically spend here for a family of four-six people?

You pay according to the plate color! Same concept as Genkis. For average spending, it really depends on the person and how much they want to eat. I feel like an average person eats about $20?

To start, all beers on tap were down so had to go with bottled. My orchid cocktail was yummy, we ordered edamame and poke nachos for apps and they were okay, nothing crazy. For our main dishes my dad tried the ultimate ahi trio and for $10 per piece, totaled to $90 he said it was nice to try but wouldn't get again. My mom ordered several rolls and other dishes, the rolls did come in good portion sizes and noted the firecracker roll was spicy. I ordered the wafu steak which was tender but rather chewy, most of the flavor came from the garlic sauce. I expected more from wagyu steak, it did come with 10oz though. My yakitori chicken and green onion was TERRIBLE, it's like they just slapped on sauce to cover how dry the chicken was. The green onion was very skinny and small as well. I only had two pieces before I took it to go. By the time we ate all of that my mom's wagyu friend rice finally came 45 minutes after we ordered and ate all the main meats and fish. It was kind of disappointing because we planned to eat the fried rice along with the other dishes. I will say the presentation of it was fun, they stirred the rice and mixed it in front of us with a hot plate and it would've done well paired with the other dishes. The service was fine, our server was very nice so I have no complaints. But for the total of $280 the food in general wasn't anything special and I did expect more for the taste. Nothing was notably bad (except the chicken) but nothing stood out either.

You can't order a lot (in order to get another 3 items, you have to wait until your entire order comes; they take forever), the taste of the food is mid and they take awhile to bring you food, hoping you'll get full. You think you're getting a good deal by going AYCE, but don't let the Ala carte pictures fool you. The quality and what you get is TOTALLY different in the AYCE. They cut corners and give you what appears to be the leftover pieces for the AYCE. They specifically have a policy on wasted rice to be charged at $35/lbs. Makes sense cuz they put so much extra rice to make you extra full. Just fyi, that's 2 people's orders. When they say 3 limit order per person, they mean, 3 pieces of nigiri. I've never been to an AYCE that was so stingy.
