I normally don't leave negative reviews, but the poor customer service experience brought me here. I placed a takeout order totaling approximately $59 and left an $8 tip. After paying, I asked for a side of eel sauce and was informed there was a 50-cent charge. Had I known beforehand, I would have simply added it to my order. The issue wasn't the cost--it was how the situation was handled. I explained that I had already paid and didn't have any cash or change on me. I then spoke with two different employees, and both seemed unwilling to help over what amounted to a 50-cent sauce. Eventually, I spoke with the manager, who repeatedly told me, "Next time, next time, make sure," and implied I wouldn't get the sauce otherwise. What disappointed me was the lack of flexibility and customer service. After spending nearly $60 on takeout and leaving a tip, I felt that the staff and management were more focused on collecting 50 cents than taking care of a customer. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I understand policies exist, but I also understand that sometimes good customer service means using common sense and showing a little goodwill. This wasn't about the money. It was about how a loyal customer was treated over something so minor. We are vacationing nearby and was craving sushi. We had just got done with a hike and needed fuel so decided to come here. At first we had a small wait which was a good sign since the space is small. There's very few true tables and has a bar seating with a conveyor belt. The size of the sushi and size of the fish was immaculate. My wife and I were shocked at the salmon, I usually am not a salmon sushi guy but I kept ordering it. I'm guessing the nigiri was 4-5 inches a piece.... Amazing. Honestly everything was great. We ate here last night after being recommended by a friend and coworker of my wife's. This is a pretty normal sushi joint with a carousel that doesn't even move anymore. It does seem to be on the older side from the interior. We came in last minute for dine in as we thought dine in was until closing which we were wrong about. They still graciously accomodated us and the chefs had no complaints. We literally had 5 minutes left to order and took our order nearly immediately after we seated. We like their garlic sushi, soft shell crab, and ribeye. The rest was pretty normal for a sushi place like this. Spicy ahi platter! My husband and I finally had a quick lunch here for the first time since that one pandemic. Those spicy ahi platters at countless parties lured us here. Even though the conveyor belt no longer functions, our sushi lunch was still inexpensive, filling, and tasty. Sushi Bay is really one of those sushi all-stars when legit sushi is far and few between on the Westside as compared to town. It's definitely a step or two above Genki Sushi. For my son's birthday. Waited for almost 2 hours to get a table for lunch, about 30-40 people stood or sat outside on the ground waiting . Lunch became dinner. Also no bathroom can be used. Inside the AC isn't cold, wait another hour for the food. Take out should be the only choice. read more

A little overdue but better late than never lol.. Went for the first time awhile back and it honestly lived up to the hype and did not disappoint. Food was so bomb and not to mention they have good portion sizes and the prices are pretty fair compared to most sushi places on island. They should definitely consider opening a second location maybe in town or something someday that would be nice , especially for people like me who aren't anywhere near Kapolei. Although I was one of the first to ever try Sushi bay and I yelp about this place years ago before it became popular and don't get me wrong this place has great tasting sushi but I've noticed increase in prices for just two pieces of sushi. This is unheard of in Japan. I live here so don't come for me. We all been feeling the inflation in prices. Sorry Sushi bay but I not sure if I willing to pay extra in the future. My forever all time favorite cheap sushi eat whenever I come back to Hawaii! I always make it my mission to order food from here every time I come back, and my most recent times have still been amazing without any problems. I always order their Spicy Shrimp (this changed over the past two years as they're not the little shrimps anymore and also lack a little bit of flavor), Spicy Scallops (huge fan), Garlic Shrimp, and Garlic Salmon. Those are always my four to order items, haha! In my most recent trip back here to dine in, the conveyer belt option has ceased. We can only order from one of the workers, and it would be made fresh. Bummer that they got rid of the conveyer belt concept but at least all the food will be made fresh rather than sitting out for a while and going to waste. Definitely a must go location as the portions are always huge especially for the price paid! Will be back on my next trip back to Hawaii. P.S. Wait lines are still ridiculous but they can go by quickly depending on the time you decide to go. I was craving sushi and my friend wanted to go to Ka Makana Alii to catch Pokemon so I was like why not. We can stop by Sushi Bay for lunch. We arrived exactly at noon and surprisingly we got a table (booth) a few minutes later. They were quite busy where the seats were almost full and the takeout counter was loaded with containers and packaging. The sushi was quite fresh and has a larger portion compared to other conveyor belt sushi places. We always get surprised seeing the size of the spicy tuna don. It's enough for 2-3 people to share. Their nigiri's were also large. They were fresh and soft. Their rolls such as the volcano, dynamite, and dragon roll were good. Good amount of filling with good amount of toppings. Their fried pieces were very good. The ika karaage and shumai were delicious with the side of sauce. The sauces were great. Overall, still a great conveyor belt sushi place. Good filling portion with prices matching their competitors. I would stop by Sushi Bay every time I'm in Kapolei. read more

I understand it, I understand the hype now. I went here on a week day shortly after they opened, and they were so busy. The waitlist to dine-in was long. There were constant take out orders flowing. They have a system on how to handle all of this and that's impressive. I took my food to go, but even with takeout I was impressed. I'll be honest... not the best sushi but overall when you take into account price and portion this is the best overall. What I spend at other places to get full, I spend half the amount at sushi bay. I've been reading about this place FOREVER and finally got a chance to try it, & ofc it was INCREDIBLE. We had someone sign up on the waitlist early so we wouldn't have to wait too long but when we got there and it was PACKED with people waiting outside the door to be seated and there were a lot of takeout orders too. Always a wait to sit down. They did not increase their hours after COVID , so they close super early. The fishes are always what we expect. Today's ahi was fresh. Rice was a little wonky, on the drier side. I like that they don't smother everything in sauce and drizzles. Nice big pieces of chicken karaage not over fried. We got here at 11:07am and was already number 10 on the list. After an hour of waiting, we decided to just order our food to go and I'm glad we did but also sad we did. Our food was not good. We ordered a variety of things- rolls, udon, chicken, different fish and we didn't like a single thing. So to start off is it worth the wait- absolutely not. First if you don't like warm sushi/ fish this is not the place for you, including the "poke". The salmon tasted like dirty dish wash so everything we got that had salmon was automatically gross. The rice was not typical sushi rice and was very wet/ fell right apart when you ate it. The nori in the rolls was also hard to break down and turned into the consistency of a rubber band- it got so bad we started scooping the rice and toppings off of it. This place is definitely a "looks can be conceiving" place because although they give you a ton of fish, the quality is subpar and the items on the inside (avocado, cream cheese, etc) was not consistent. One side of my roll had globs of avocado and the other side didn't but it was the same roll. The flavor of the garlic sauce and onions was okay but once again ruined by the nasty salmon. My husband also said his eel was nothing but bones and hard to eat. I will admit the tuna was soft/ melt in your mouth texture but flavor was not there. No spice, nothing. It honestly didn't even taste like anything, just mush in your mouth. I really don't understand how this place has such a long line/ wait. Although there was a 30-minute wait to get the 5 of us seated at 12:30, the service was quick and the wait staff was SO friendly. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned later in the week, driving there from Waikiki. Despite the 30 minute wait this second time for 3 of us at 1:30, the food was onolicious and we got to chat with the owners, Lance & Jackie. Be prepared for a wait because seating just depends on the number in your party and availability, waiting on those who are enjoying their meals. Counter seats may turn away more quickly and many opted to do takeout. Our favorites were the fresh ahi, baked mussels and unagi. The inside is small like everyone else says it is. It's definitely not as high tech as Genki sushi but the servers come to get your order and give them to you. The prices and quality of this place is so amazing! You really get a bang for your buck and more! Service was phenomenal and went beyond my expectations. Every employee went above and beyond to make sure I was having a pleasant visit at their establishment. Now on to the food, the nigiri sushi still remained the same like years ago. The fish to rice ratio and the size of the fish is literally top tier! Big pieces of fish on the rice with nori wrapped around. The spicy ahi and ahi poke don was my favorite! I also loved how they had chawan mushi one of my favorite dishes and scallop mayo on their menu. My husband is extremely picky when it comes to sushi and prefers to eat at more "expensive" sushi restaurants but I even got a thumbs up and a WOW from him! So that speaks volumes. At that time, there was a waiting list with 6 parties ahead of me. It took about 30 minutes for me to get in and dine. By the time I got in, the place was pumping with workers hustling. I was quickly served water, and my order was taken within minutes. I was consistently checked in during my stay by the servers, and my water cup was never empty. Food also came out pretty quick. The food itself was straight up amazing. The portions and cuts of sushi were great and tasted so fresh. The udon and chawa mushi were hot and fresh. The restaurant was very clean.
