    Bento box lunch

A nice sushi restaurant in Playa Vista. Went there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Selected the bento box with salmon. Food was dry and obviously reheated. I am not impressed... three stars for good service.

Cool local Sushi spot. The place isn't too big, but it does have indoor/outdoor seating with tv's so you can watch your favorite sports team...Go RAMS! Chill place and good Sushi for the price. I plan to update my review after a few more dine ins.

    Sashimi Sampler

Didn't know what I wanted for dinner the other night. Parked and was walking towards one restaurant, but instead, ended up here. Not sure how or why, but I did. And I'm glad I did. Walked in and was offered any seat in the house as it was pretty empty. It definitely wasn't that way when I left. So, get in early because it got a little packed as the night wore on and this was during the week. No idea how it is on the weekend. Service was great. I didn't ask for a name but he was Johnny on the spot. It wasn't because I was sitting at the bar, he was just on it. Everything just felt like it was natural and meant to be. Then there was the food. Opted for the Sashimi Sampler, an order of Chicken Karaage and of course, dessert. See pics. The only criticism I have is that I wasn't a fan of the oil the chicken was cooked in. Not that it was bad as the chicken was still juicy and tender - just meant I dunked the pieces into the condiment more than I usually do. And, I still cleared my plate. All my plates in fact. I even finished off the bowl of rice, which if you know me, is a rarity. Yeah, I know I'm Asian. Just one who doesn't regularly eat rice. As for parking, I was a block away. Street parking. No meter. I don't know what the restrictions are, but I just know it was free. You'll have to ask or check. I just know I'm always happy when there's free parking and or I don't drive away with a ticket. Speaking of driving away - I left fat and happy. The two ice cold Sapporo drafts helped and the good food accounts for the latter.

We checked out this restaurant since it's conveniently close to my friend's place. The food was average. I got the Bentley roll and I enjoyed it. My friend thought her roll was decent too. Our other friend was disappointed in their fried rice and hand roll though, but I can't speak on that since I didn't try it. We were sat immediately on a Sunday evening. We sat outside and it was nice and sunny.

    Blue Crab Hand Roll

Recently returned here after many years away and am thrilled to report that they still in fact have the BEST blue crab hand roll I've ever tasted. It actually has made me order blue crab hand rolls everywhere, that only end in disappointment. Additionally, the tuna crispy rice is also still to die for. They were doing crispy rice long before it was so popular, basically right after Katsuya. Other dishes are good but these are the must-dos. Service is slow but this is also a neighborhood spot so it feels like you shouldn't be in a crazy rush. Ambiance is pretty good with both outdoor and indoor tables.

The service is decent and it's a cute place. I really want to like it, but the fish quality isn't consistent. I still have it a chance, but this was my last Straw. Unagi is expensive and these proportions are kns

The food was delicious. The ambiance was lovely. Our server was attentive and super friendly. I had the red dragon roll plus popcorn shrimp and it was a perfect selection. My wife had a salad. Miso soup and a speciality roll. She enjoyed it thoroughly. I would definitely come back here. It was a recommendation from my physical therapist.

This ambiance is really cute and in a good neighborhood. I would come here on a date! They are attentive here. There are TVs on the wall watching basketball and people are here eating. I'm picking up food. The customer service is really good. Good prices. Good food. To be in this neighborhood has to be making good money

    Sushi Sampler (18 piece)

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Great sushi spot in Playa vista. it really rounds out the group of restaurants that are in the Playa Vista area. You have a gastropub, italian, Burger spot, Chinese food, a fast food mexican, and a casual sit-down mexican... Then this sushi place. It fits in perfectly in the grouping. The sushi always comes out super Fresh and vibrant. They also have great meals for kids, with the chicken and salmon Teriyaki that comes with broccoli and potato salad or whatever your favorite side dish is. They also have great happy hour specials. I recommend going for happy hour and grabbing some discounted hand rolls and a pitcher of sapporo. My go-to meal is the Sushi Sampler, usually 18 piece. They also have a great patio section, which is tented for when the weather is a bit on the chilly side. As summer approaches I will definitely be sitting outside with a beautiful view of the park and crushing sushi.

We love to stop here because it's right next to our home! It's not as busy as it used to be but the service is still good! The last few times were disappointing in the quality of the food, however, this time we were pleasantly surprised at how tasty the dishes were! The edamame was hot and spicy! The rolls were fresh and also looked great. I really enjoyed their specialty rolls even the vegetable roll was divine! We love to order hot sake and relax after a long week! Overall, it's small inside but I do recommend the sushi if you're in the neighborhood! They have a cute patio as well!

    Sushi Sampler and Chicken Karage
    David M.

Expensive for what it is! The sushi sampler for $20 contains just 5 pieces of nigiri and a miso soup. The pieces were fine but that's overpriced for regular nigiri. The chicken karage for $14 was fresh and pretty tasty. It also cost a few more dollars than I would've thought. Review is for lunch takeout order.

This tray was presented to me just as shown - ginger hanging over sloppily, dried out on top, stray smears of wasabi.

It immediately sets the tone for a meal rooted in traditional technique, yet open to a more modern, elevated interpretation. Yakitori here follows a philosophy deeply embedded in Tokyo's top counters, full utilization of the bird, precise binchotan grilling, and a deliberate pacing that emphasizes progression. Within this framework, I explored a more contemporary pairing approach. Elite "Cult" wines into a setting traditionally dominated by beer, sake, and shochu A bottle of Chateau Petrus kicks off the early progression. Its plush plum fruit and silky tannins align with the smoky depth of the grill, particularly alongside lightly charred chicken skewers where restraint in seasoning allows the wine elegance to surface. My approach tonight reflects a growing high end dining trend seen across Tokyo's top yakitori-ya, where prestigious Bordeaux and Napa cult wines are increasingly paired with yakitori. Bringing that perspective to Culver City, the contrast becomes intentional, humble, fire driven cuisine meeting some of the world's most coveted bottles. As the meal progress, the pairing shifts into a high gear, Screaming Eagle alongside Petrus elevates the wagyu into something far beyond traditional yakitori. Both wines concentration and structure cut cleanly through the beef's rendered fat, creating a powerful interplay between richness and precision. Even beef tendon, often seen as a more rustic skewer, takes on a refined dimension here. Against the backdrop of these world class wines, its savory glaze and charcoal kissed exterior provide a compelling contrast to the wines depth and smooth textures. Coming up next are the sake, Fudoh Junmai Daiginjo offers a composed, textural counterpoint. Its rounded umami and gentle fruit sweetness integrate seamlessly with tare-glazed skewers, while a clean finish resets the palate between richer bites and the Tenko 40 Muroka Nama introduces a more expressive, energetic layer. Paired with chawanmushi, sashimi, and lighter preparations, its fresh aromatics and subtle acidity bring lift and contrast, expanding the range of the meal beyond what wine alone could achieve. What I am experimenting here tonight are full of contrast, charcoal and silk, fat and structure, tradition and reinterpretation. Pairing wines like Petrus with yakitori may seem unconventional to a lot of you, but within the context of modern Tokyo dining, it feels increasingly natural. Here in Los Angeles, Gokigen Tori captures a glimpse of that evolution, where even the most traditional skewers meet the world's most prestigious glass. As always, I'll let the photos speak for the rest of the fun.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone rave about this place (or I guess they don't pay extra to show up at the top of searches ?). Went on a weekday for lunch and there were a couple of parties already waiting outside the door before opening time. It's an unassuming, minimalist space but feels cozy inside. They had very reasonably-priced lunch sets that were surprisingly filling. Nigiri and rolls were fresh, with balanced flavors. The Uzumaki set would have been fine by itself but we ordered a couple of rolls on top and ended up a bit stuffed. The ume shiso cucumber roll was probably my least favorite item. The plum was a bit too prominent and there weren't enough savory flavors to balance out the tartness. Everything else exceeded expectations. Overall would highly recommend!

No reservations but worth a wait (but honestly, only ever had to wait 30-40 mins during peak dinner time on Friday once). It's a small space but it doesn't feel crammed, it's cozy and really well kept. The quality and freshness of the fish is impossible to beat. The nigiri melts in your mouth. The best part of coming to dinner here is their prefix meal options. When my boyfriend and I come together we never have to strategize what to get. I always order the Uzumaki & he gets the Uzumaki Plus prefix meals & we each get a miso soup. The ceviche sampler leaves you wanting more each time, the edamame starter is the perfect size, and with each bite of the nigiri I'm smiling and nodding my head in disbelief. You get to choose between two cut rolls with the Uzumaki prefix meals, either the crunchy shrimp or spicy tuna -- the shrimp is my favorite. We decided to try the chocolate donut with vanilla ice cream today and it did not disappoint. Now to the service -- we've never had better service. Each employee greets you with a smile, and as soon as your plate is empty or a piece of trash shows up on your table the staff immediately takes it away. I personally love eating the pickled ginger and some places can be stingy, not this place! Immediately they are bringing us more ginger, water, etc whatever it is, without us asking. It's incredible the attention to detail the staff has and they make coming back such a warm and friendly experience. The cherry on top? There's free parking in a structure attached to the building. We recommend parking in the structure over the street as sometimes there can be interesting characters outside. You know it's an amazing restaurant when you can't decide which is better, the service or the food! Go, you won't regret it!!!

The layout is entirely counter seating, which gives the space a wonderful, intimate energy. It's the perfect spot to pop in, enjoy an incredible meal, and head out. Because of the bar setup, it's also extremely welcoming for solo diners, and I actually saw quite a few people eating alone here. Both their handrolls and kushiyaki are executed at a very high level. The handrolls are an absolute highlight; having the chefs craft them right in front of you adds a touch of live-performance flair to the night. You can instantly tell the difference in their nori (seaweed)--it is remarkably crisp and fresh, staying perfectly crunchy until the last bite. Their skewer menu is equally impressive with a ton of variety. They offer everything from luxurious options like premium Wagyu to unique, seasonal delicacies like firefly squid (hotaru-ika). It makes customization so much fun. Pro-Tip for Elites: If you're looking for a quick but upscale dinner that doesn't drag on for hours, this is your spot. Logistically, don't waste time looking for a garage--metered street parking directly in front of the restaurant is surprisingly easy to find and often has plenty of open spaces! Even though I have dietary restrictions, I'm pretty sure there's going to be something on the menu that I could eat. Now when I got there and I saw the very brief menu, I was stunned and I was like, oh my gosh, I should've looked at the menu before I came here This looks like I'm about to be eating a bunch of raw fish. But to my surprise when I looked closely, I was able to see that there was a whole section of grilled foods and appetizers that I could eat. I ended up ordering: - the miso soup - the edamame - the cucumber salad (for appetizers) - sea bass - oyster mushrooms - shrimp - the ginkgo nuts Every single food item that I ordered was delicious. I was genuinely surprised by how flavorful everything was and I was particularly impressed with the sea bass and oyster mushrooms. These two dishes were phenomenal. I don't know how they made that sea bass so flaky and moist and just melt in your mouth but it was so good. I don't know what sauce they put on top of it but that thing was amazing. The oyster mushrooms were so good that we ordered two more orders of it. For the edamame, the only thing I didn't like was that it was served cold. I don't know if that's like a traditional way of serving it or something but I'm used to having my edamame be served warm or hot so that was unusual for me. The server was amazing, super attentive and very kind. He always made sure we had what we needed and there was even something that was mistakenly served to us but he took it off the bill and allowed my friend to eat it anyway so we were grateful for him. He was also really good at explaining the menu and the dishes that he liked. The vibe in here is social but a little classy. There were these ladies that were sitting to the left of us and one of them just randomly started talking to us and asking us if we were from the neighborhood, which was a little odd because... why are you asking me those questions??? Other than that the vibe was fine and I would definitely come back here again. One thing to note though is that the food is served kind of like tapas style so if you're expecting massive portions and to be stuffed to discomfort, this is not the place where that's going to happen.

We got there at that in-between hour... not quite lunch, not quite dinner. The kind of time where the restaurant feels like it's just exhaling.
