    Burnt nasty tempura

Not a good place The thick woman with red hair not very friendly or helpful . The food is below average the tempura is disgusting very odd heavy tempura batter They also burned everything the tempura sauce was also very watery and no flavor The tempura bowl was all bland old chicken cooked hours or days ago all rice no meat . Don't let me get started with the sushi One smell and straight to the trash . This whole experience was trash I should have known walking into this place it looked very odd . Lesson learned no more cheap not authentic Japanese restaurants .

A solid spot for sushi and other fast Japanese fare. I ordered some takoyaki and a couple of pieces of sushi for lunch. The takoyaki was only around $6 for about 4, and they were nicely fried and crunchy on the outside with the creamy octopus inside and complimented with mayo, takoyaki sauce, and bonito flakes. I ordered salmon and ikura sushi. I love sushi when it looks like the emoji lol and they also hit the spot. Delicious quick food aside, I want to talk about how great the service was. I was advised while ordering to get other specific items so I can save money. I could also hear the gentlemen who took in my order tell another patron to order another similar but cheaper menu item so he wouldn't spend too much. There's something to be said about that, and that thing is good! My food was also ready and placed intricately on my table at lightning speed. Just a great spot to eat.

Sushi Boy doesn't really have anything special, but it's an incredible value for decent taste. I typically will get their Dragon Roll or Spicy Shrimp Roll. My favorite dish is the chicken teriyaki bowl because you can sauce it up however you'd like. Overall staff is quick to get your food out! A clean place to dine in or takeout!

We come here whenever we're craving something quick and satisfying. A gentle heads-up: if you're hunting for top-tier, Michelin-level sushi, this probably isn't the place, and that's okay. Don't come expecting the moon just to complain it's not orbiting close enough. This is a small, no-frills spot that serves affordable sushi that actually taste decent. Solid flavors, a nice variety of rolls and handrolls and perfect for when the sushi craving hits but the budget says "be reasonable." Service is usually fast and easy, but today (12/17/25 at 4:40pm) was a standout. The guy who took our order mentioned he used to work in the kitchen, and he was an absolute gem, super sweet and genuinely went above and beyond. The place also looked (and smelled) spotlessly clean, for anyone who claims otherwise or maybe we simply got here on a good day? To top it off, an unpleasant couple came in after us, and the cashier/server (one guy doing everything) handled the situation with total grace and professionalism. We were so impressed that we ended up tipping him around 80% , yes, eighty. So no, this isn't top-tier sushi. But if you want affordable sushi that taste good, comes out quickly, and is served with kindness, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Sometimes that's exactly what you need

My boys inhale sushi. To make my wallet survive, we take them regularly to Sushi Boy (and also the cousin restaurant of Kozo Sushi in south Torrance with a nicer building). You'll chuckle that my boys actually grade hand rolls, specialty rolls and nigiri from Sushi Boy higher than some of those swanky cloth-napkin, must-show-up-in-fancy-shoes kind of restaurants! The food is delicious. The staff is down to earth, family oriented and relaxing unpretentious. Bathrooms are not great. But we overlook that as the pro-con analysis is still highly favorable. The website and app do not work. There is no way to login. We've just accepted this as a fact of life. But the phone number for purchase rewards works! Based on how much money we spend here, we are getting free items (free tempura, soup, sushi combos) every visit! My wallet sings praises too. Don't sleep on Sushi Boy.

My wife & I came here for lunch. It brought memories when we were dating when this establishment was located on the corner Kent Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd. The atmosphere was good. The service was pretty prompt. The food tasted good.

My review is based off of nostalgia and the fact of actually visiting a Sushi Boy brick and mortar. Back in 1999 I went to the Sushi Boy location inside Marukai's food court. I was then introduced to a roll that I highly judged because 1. it wasn't fish based 2. there was lettuce in it 3. I knew this thing would fall apart when picked up. What I didn't know is the magic behind a simple combination adding their teriyaki sauce. Its been some years that Sushi Boy left the Marukai food court and I felt I was at a loss on this roll. Since I don't live in the South Bay area it is a huge trek to come down just for sushi. Marukai is an exception since my mother's church is nearby and she loves to do her Japanese food shopping their. The roll that I'm raving about is their Chicken Maki. Simple: rice, chicken, lettuce, sesame seeds. When you add their teriyaki sauce, it is all good! This past weekend I had plans to visit the area and made a point to come to Sushi boy before heading to my destination. I had a couple of friends with me. It was their first time. I told them it is fast food sushi but its pretty good and the price is just right. 90% of the items in the photos of this review were my friend's order and they killed everything. Even the salad. The person at the register was really helpful as well. There is a menu up above and behind the register but when I asked for the chicken maki he showed me a more extensive menu that was laid out on the countertop. He also brought the order out to our table and while not knowing a key is needed to use the restroom, he handed it to me before even asking. There are a few staple food places/items for me in the South Bay and Sushi Boy has one of them. Glad to have made it. Parking: medium sized lot VERDICT: Rinse and repeat

Got a beer, the cabbage and onion side w/ponzu sauce, 1 order of the Unagi skewers, 2 orders of the Tsukune skewers, and closed out with the Torikawa Chips (crispy chicken skin). I've noticed the Tsukune shape has changed since the grand opening. I applaud the adjustment as the meatball still holds up well, remains moist & succulent, and these came out quicker compared to my previous visits. Service was reasonably paced. None of my items were missing so I didn't have to awkwardly ask for anything to be removed from my bill. The only time I had to call the staff over was to place my orders and ask for the check. I believe the last time I came 1.5 months ago, the kitchen apologized profusely for missing one of my skewer orders and I was comped with a complimentary beverage. By no means necessary - orders flow in during rush hour, mistakes/things happen in food service. But I did deeply appreciate the gesture. Will try to come around for lunch or happy hour soon. I look forward to watching this place to blossom in the Torrance Japanese Cuisine community overtime!

Chef that prepares food made our visit a horrible experience…read more I was dining with a guest. Ordered two chicken skewers, two veggie skewers, rice and miso soup. The Miso soup came out first. Five minutes later a bowl of rice came out. 3rd comes out one of the chicken skewers. I patiently waited for the remained of the food to come out so we can eat together. I look up and notice that the chef cooking the food was doing nothing and kept looking at me...as if I did something bad to him. I continued to wait. I kept noticing that the chef was doing nothing and kept giving me an evil look. I did not feed into the chef's evil antics. I notified the server (a young gentleman) that seated us, and mentioned that we were waiting on remaining food so we can eat together. Still no remaining food was delivered. I asked the (young lady server) and mentioned to her that we are still waiting. I did mention that I observed the restaurant was pretty empty and asked why my small table order would not come out together and mentioned that I felt the chef took it upon himself to have myself and my guest wait. By this time the double order of veggie skewers comes out (still waiting on my guest chicken skewer). Again the chef is giving me a mean mugging look again, like he decides when he is ready to give us our food. Finally, the 2nd chicken skewer (which is the last item) finally arrives. By this time, my first item (the 1st chicken skewer) is now cold. I ended up letting my server know that my 1st skewer was cold and to just send it back, by this time my appetite was ruined and the chicken was cold. After the server got a manager override, to take the first (cold) skewer off, it was taken off the bill. I ended up not eating and watched my guest eat their meal and we left. The servers were very apologetic. I let the servers know that it was not their fault, I advised that in the future it would be a good idea, to bring the proteins and veggies out together. Also I let the servers know that there was no excuse for the chef's behavior, since the restaurant was very slow. Nevertheless, I did leave a proper tip, because the servers should not have to suffer due to the chef behind kitchen was not properly doing his job and attending to the guest orders. I would recommend this place if the chef can pay attention and deliver orders in a complete manner and not piece out one item at a time...especially in this realistic situation aforementioned.

The restaurant itself has a very clean, bright atmosphere that's perfect for a focused lunch or a relaxed dinner.
