First time here. Was empty at noon. Served/hostess was great. Friendly service clean restaurant. The sushi I had was the firework roll. Was good but had an odd fishy taste to it I couldn't place. My go to rolls are the gator roll, ocean's green and salmon's way. They're so fresh and delicious. You can tell that the fish is always fresh by the look and taste. The service is always good too. Idk how it's not busy here, but that's good for me -no wait! It's a small restaurant with simple decor and an open kitchen window to see the sushi chef. I'm not a sushi eater, so I ordered the fried spicy pork with white rice. Was good but not what I was expecting. Thought it would be crunchy. For appetizers had steamed and fried dumplings. Was ok not the best. Others ordered sushi and said it was a little dry and the tuna was chewy. The texture was off. The rolls were small. Also had the mild Ramin and egg. This was my first visit to Sushi California. The restaurant was very nice on the inside. Nicely lit on the inside. Plenty of tables. Music played in the background fr the 80's. Unlike some of you who admitted that you weren't really into sushi, I am a big fan of sushi. I have eaten some great sushi in Japan, Korea, Hawaii, etc. Sushi California offers some very good sushi in my humble opinion though I have to admit here that I'm not a huge fan of rolled sushi with gobs of sauce over it. First of all, I really enjoyed the quality and freshness of food starting with miso soup. It was very good. I have been frequently disappointed with very weak tasting miso soup elsewhere, but what I had was very flavorful. It communicated well to me that folks here take a good care in preparing their food. When I received my sushi, they tasted very fresh and good as I expected they would be. Obviously, they will not prepare your sushi until it's ordered. There's no ready-made rolls like I have experienced in the past at some establishments. Since the food is very good quality, expect to pay more than you'd normally pay at some restaurants around here. Service was very courteous and attentive. My server was very charming and friendly. I appreciated that a lot. I spoke with the owner after I finished eating and thanked him for my nice lunch. He shared with me some of his life stories which I felt very special and honored since I'm a total stranger to him. I will go back and enjoy some more sushi here. Highly recommended! read more

The place is kind of dull but it's cute. Their menu is pretty diverse but their prices kind of throw me off because of the portion size. I'm from California where the portions are huge but match the prices this place offers. I do have to say that the salad dressing here is EXCEPTIONAL. Service and music were great and worth 4-5 stars easy. I'm giving Sushi California a 3 star rating just for the food. I ordered a variety: Sashimi appetizer, Spicy Tuna and Dragon roll. I've ordered many of these from other restaurants, so I have lots to compare to. Sashimi was ok but average at best. Spicy tuna was basic with tuna and cucumber, not too much spicy flavor. Dragon roll was one of the worst I've ordered. Very little eel on top (About 2 nigiri pieces worth). Need more eel and avocado to make it worth the price. Okay brace yourself. I usually don't leave reviews but decided I need to do one. As far as the establishment goes it's clean, nice and the staff is very attentive. As far as the food goes- 1. Major bust is this sushi spot doesn't have a lot of rolls to offer. By the name alone I would have thought that they had a variety of rolls. I ordered the dragon roll and a side of steamed rice. The rice was not sticky nor soft it was a little bit undercooked. The sushi itself wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. After eating I threw up within several hours. (Now not saying you will get sick eating here that's just my body my stomach and that was the reaction I got from eating here). Maybe it was the roll I got, maybe it was a bad batch? Who knows. I just believe for a sushi spot they should have a lot more options and better rice. Just my opinion, needless to say I won't be returning. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough! They had me at the salad dressing. I ordered the Katsu Don, and it was delicious! Just as high quality as the food I had in Japan, and this is coming from someone who studied there and is moving back. My husband's sushi was fantastic, and we shared some tasty, fresh homemade gyoza. My god how I miss this place! My husband was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY and we used to eat here all the time. The sushi was always fresh and delicious. The staff was ALWAYS so welcoming, if we were dining there, or if I was there to pick up a phone order. What I miss the most is the Oyakodon. It was AMAZING. Went at 11:30am on a Wednesday. There were 3 other people there at the time. The place was not striking in appearance, but I wouldn't call it a hole in the wall. The waitress was pleasant and my food was ready to-go in about 5 minutes. The sushi rolls were nice and tight, and the rice was sticky. Use the soy sparingly as it is extremely potent and will overpower the flavors negatively. I will upload a few pictures of their paper handout menus for those interested in ordering to-go and have no idea what they are offering, as was my case. There was nothing wrong with the place. Nothing was exactly exceptional either, but overall I recommend the place as good sushi is difficult to come by in this area. It's close, quick and convenient to anyone living on post. read more

Fujiyama is still #1 Clarksville sushi (wider sushi roll selection) but this place definitely is competition. The rolls do not disappoint. We had the hurricane roll, Philadelphia, and salmon (can't remember exact name but it was a "special roll"). We also ordered some noodles (again, sorry, don't exactly know what it's called the waitress kinda just brought it). Everything was yummy! The salmon was supa fresh. We ended up loving the noodles. I love the place, it has a cozy atmosphere and one of the owners is always there to make sure we are satisfied with our meal. The restaurant is very pretty and calm. It feels perfect for a date or a little family dinner. The servers are very kind and attentive. Always ready to answer my questions. The only reason I'm giving 3stars us because the sushi is nothing out of this world, it tastes very average. Especially the pricey ones, they don't taste as great having a high price. That's why I just eat the simple rolls whenever I come here to save the money because the roll is not worth that money in my opinion. This is my second favorite Japanese restaurant in town. The main man, the head chef in the back knows what he's doing. The rice is awesome just wow.
