What I ordered. Bento box daily special.

Decided to treat my (3) Sons for a lunch get together and what a great decision made. The server was "over the top", friendly and took great care of us. The food was terrific and pleasing to the last bite. Ordered some tuna jalapeño poppers and my taste buds are still thanking me. Of course I ventured with some yummy Saki accompanied by an Ice cold Sapporo, hey why not? Service is great, pricing is a good value (they have daily specials) and the atmosphere is perfect. If you haven't been here yet what are you waiting for?I recommend giving this place a shot. Believe me you won't be disappointed!

We discovered Sushi Deli 1 about a year ago, and it's quietly become one of our favorite neighborhood spots. It's reliable, affordable, and surprisingly creative for a casual sushi joint. We've tried a ton from the menu, but the standouts for us are the Lemon Pepper Edamame, Coco Loco, Sunkissed, Motion of the Ocean, and Island Breeze Roll. Every roll feels fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully made. They also keep things fun with rotating promotions and themed nights -- their Taco Tuesday is clever. The vibe is lively, and while the servers aren't overly chatty, they're consistent. We usually park a couple blocks away near our gym since there's no parking, and if there's ever a wait, we just grab a drink at the bar two doors down until our table's ready. Nothing fancy, just great food, fair prices, and an easy local feel. It's the kind of spot you keep coming back to because it never disappoints.

Came here for lunch and it's always fast service and the food comes out quick. The ambiance is casual and great for families or dates.

Everything about this place is top tier . I am usually a sushi hater due to the texture but I had expirenced the baked sushi and it is one of my favorite things to eat now . The service is also impeccable as we had some last minute friends join us and the host and server had no issue accommodating us ! This restaurant deserves it roses!!

Haven't been in awhile! Always a fun easy go to for good sushi. Sat at the bar which was a first for us. Great service. Ordered "the special" Which was 2 rolls and they accommodated change so wanted on a different roll. "The San Diego" Food was good, just relaxing, good vibe inside. Won't wait so long to come back.

We met my friends here for lunch and I'm glad that we did. Parking was hard to find and I noticed quite a long line out the door but after I found parking, the 4 of us were seated as soon as we arrived. My wife and I ordered Fire fire, verano and hot hot pearl sushi rolls. They were all so delicious and I can't wait to come back to try different rolls. I highly recommend this place.

This is always my go to spot when I want Sushi, and they never fail to satisfy my sushi craving. I went on a hungry stomach and ordered too much. I had the miso soup which is a must. I ordered garlic wings and of course a shrimp tempura sushi roll. So good ya'll! The service was phenomenal upon entrance. Our waitress was genuinely kind and was very attentive to us, which made the experience even better. The vibe inside is warming and cozy yet hip and fun. Never disappoints, which is why I frequent this restaurant often.

The sushi here is very good, and the prices can't be beat. I can't believe I never discovered this place during college. I came here with an old friend from college and we loved their menu - they have a huge variety of sushi and appetizers and you can order however much or little you are feeling that way. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

Went here on Valentine's Day weekend and they had a special called the "third wheel". We both ordered that. It was a roll and a beverage. I got the rainbow roll and hubby got something spicy. Our drinks were a plum wine and a beer. You can probably guess who got what on that. It was a beautiful day outside and we got to sit by the window. Service was friendly and terrific. Love this place as one of my "go to" places in San Diego.

I love Sushi Deli 1, this is my go-to sushi spot. I have been coming here for a couple of years and it's been consistently pleasant. Here is everything I got today: - Carnitas Egg Roll, 7/10 : These are okay. They aren't my favorite but others seem to really enjoy them. The warm avocado kind of throws me off. However, it comes with an amazing spicy mayo dip. - Shrimp Tempura, 9.5/10 : You can never go wrong with these! Perfectly crispy and tasty. - Mussel Dynamite, 10/10 : These are going to be my new staple when I come here. The mussels are huge! And the spicy mayo is just wonderful with it. Wow. - Motion in the ocean, 9.5/10 : Today was my first time trying this roll and I love it. It is full of flavor. I didn't even have to dip it in soy sauce. Although I loved the food and the service for the most part, I have a couple of comments. Firstly, when we first came in to be seated the hostess said we would need to wait for 15-20 minutes. However there was this table right in front of us (I included a picture). When I asked about it, the hostess said that they don't seat people there and it's a fire hazard? It didn't really make sense why it was even there. It ended being a really short wait and a table was ready for us within five minutes. Also, throughout the entire meal, the waiter failed to remove straw wrappers and empty plates. This doesn't bother me too much but it would've been nice to have a clear table.

Overall decent experience. Nothing special. The employees are beyond welcoming and very polite. Hard to give this place a low rating but it's just not what it is. Sushi was actually pretty good but some areas were empty or lacked some ingredients. Also the price was very reasonable but due to the inconsistency of the rolls, felt off. Plenty of seating and definitely not too bad of a wait on a Thursday. Lots of the sushi was great, beer was a little flat. Just too many inconsistencies. But I will return!

Miso Soup -- too much tempura and green onions. Overpowering.
    Allison L.

You get what you pay for! Everything here is super inexpensive, however, the quality reflects that. Miso Soup -- I've never seen anyone put tempura in their miso. At first I thought it was cool until all I could taste was tempura chunks and green onions. You couldn't get much of the actual broth & flavor. Crab Lagoon -- It was basically imitation crab + green onions. I personally felt like it needed cream cheese + other seasonings. Shogun Special -- $19 for a rainbow roll + 5 nigiri The thought of this special for the price is great, however, the quality wasn't. The fish on the rainbow roll was cut SUPER thin. (My boyfriend got a different sushi set that came with the same roll and his fish on top was thicker) The quality of the tuna on both the nigiri and roll were questionable -- it was a light pink color. The salmon nigiri tasted fine, but visually you couldn't tell it wasn't the best quality. April Sushi Special -- The Crunchy Bunny really surprised us. It had a great flavor. The Caterpillar Roll was decent. The eel in it was pretty thin and slightly fishy. The rainbow roll and spicy tuna were standard. This was our first time at this location. They have a decent amount of tables. Waited about 30 minutes on a Wednesday night. Our server, Jose, was super friendly. I haven't been to Sushi Deli in years. I used to frequent the Armour location when I was a teen and on a budget. People will be drawn to the prices, but I do recommend spending a little more to get a little more.

The short rib kare-kare was the one I was going to judge hard because kare-kare is one of my favorite dishes. Short rib was great and all, but that sauce. Rich peanut sauce, bagoong oil, long beans, eggplant. I ended up adding white rice just so I wouldn't leave any of it behind. Tocino pork tomahawk. Sweet, savory pork. That's it. No notes. And that damn charred cabbage with butter miso. Soft, silky, little bit of miso. How does cabbage end up being one of my favorite things at dinner? Then I put the tocino, white rice and cabbage together. Favorite spoonful of the night. And the service was just as memorable. Chef Tara Monsod kept coming back to our table throughout dinner and basically became our tasting guide. We got to talk with her about the food while we were eating it. Then at one point I said I couldn't read the menu because it was too damn dark in there. Someone must've overheard me because the overhead lights were brightened above our table. I've had a lot of good meals, but this was probably my favorite dining experience I've had in the States.

The happy hour here is an absolute standout, featuring an expansive array of creative food options and crafted drinks. The menu brings an inventive Asian fusion twist to bar bites, offering flavor-forward small plates that pair seamlessly with the beverage program. The drinks deserve equal applause: the craft cocktails are meticulously balanced, and the signature ube-inspired cocktails are as vibrant and distinct as they are delicious. If I had to describe it in one word I would say "aesthetic". Service: Great, the servers check in a decent amount of the time and you can usually flag them down if you need anything Food: This is where my review goes downhill. The only thing I would say is worth getting at this restaurant is the baguette with butter (no add-ons, caviar or whatever they have going on at the time -- its just not worth it -- when I got the black truffle on my butter the shavings were so thin they might as well have not been there since it made no difference in flavor) The tamarind wings are one dimensional -- the wings are fried well, but lack in flavor, its straight *overwhelming* tamarind with no other notes. House made egg noodles lack any sort of noticeable flavor, most of it stemming from the Lap Cheong but most definitely not worth the price tag that it holds ($36) The dry aged duck is where I feel the most "scammed out of". Ive gotten this both times i've been here. Both times its been overly salty. I understand its dry-aged, but the saltiness overtakes any other flavor of the duck. The sauces try to make up for the lack of flavor but they just cant carry the entire dish on their own -- especially not for a $100 price tag. The first time I ordered this dish (Jan 2026) the duck came out cold-warm, and the second time I came here (July 2026) it came out warmer.

I must say, I never would have stumbled upon this restaurant by myself, but it was highly recommended by my friends who live nearby. My daughter and I were visiting San Diego for a one-week trip because I was required to come here for work. My workdays were pretty packed, but my daughter and I also took advantage of this trip by filling our evenings with lots of fun activities. One thing we did was visit some wonderful friends who live in San Diego. My friend, John, told us that he found an amazing restaurant in San Diego a few decades ago, and he was really sad to find that it had closed down. Several years later, and more recently, he was surprised to find that this same restaurant owner reopened his restaurant in a new location, which is here on Adams Avenue in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego. He was overjoyed to find that this restaurant had reopened in a different location, and he says that this is his favorite restaurant in San Diego. After a story like that, I had to come here to experience this place for myself! We parked on Adams Avenue, and I paid the meter for a reasonable amount of time for us to enjoy our dinner together. I would imagine that parking here can be a bit congested and tricky at times, so I would just suggest that you're patient and careful with where you decide to legally park. We had a party of five for our dinner together, and it was an absolutely wonderful evening with good friends and delicious food. Our waitress was Jun, and she was friendly and professional, as well as attentive to our dinnertime needs. The owner also came out to say hello to us, and he took the time to chat with us for a few minutes during our meal. He was so incredibly nice. I always appreciate it when an owner is willing to devote some time to connect with their customers. For an appetizer, I ordered the "Japanese Pork Gyoza," which are pan fried dumplings filled with pork, fresh ginger, onion, green onion, cabbage, garlic, and soy. It was absolutely delicious, and I had to resist the temptation of eating too many of them so that our friends could enjoy some too. For my meal, I ordered the "Katsu Chicken Curry," which is chicken thigh meat battered in Panko breadcrumbs, deep fried until golden brown and crunchy. I got my meal with a half-and-half mix of white rice and brown rice. My meal was prepared perfectly, and it was incredibly delicious! My meal was concluded with some of their delicious ice cream, which satiated my post-meal sugar cravings. Our evening with friends was special and memorable, and our meals and service at Dao Fu made our evening even more pleasant and enjoyable. Thanks to the owner, our waitress, and the staff for making our evening a wonderful one. The next time I'm back in this area, I'll be sure to come here again!
