Also I find out that there rolls are premade that morning, NOT FRESH. Your sushi will be better at fresh thyme supermarket down the street. Food is great I have always had great service while dining in and even when they are super busy (during half off time) it has always been worth the wait. However, I called for a carry out order and couldn't believe how unfriendly the lady was that was answering the phone. A lot of local businesses are struggling right now and it was an instant turn off that made me want to take my business elsewhere for dinner. This has been my go to sushi place for the past 4 years, however recently they have made a change in their business model for the worst. I'm not sure whether or not the management has changed or what has happened but I do not like the new "grab and go." The sushi is pre-made and unfortunately it tastes pre-made :( For me there is a drastic difference in taste from their fresh sushi and the now pre-made sushi. I did have one of their poke bowls which was pretty good but not sure if it is worth the drive. The food is high quality. Prices are good. It tends to get very busy in the evenings, so there will likely be a wait. International students love this place, so that should tell you a lot. It's a single-room, so if you have a noisy kid EVERYONE will hear. My husband and I went on a Friday evening and only had about a 15 minute wait to be seated. I must admit my only negative note on the restaurant would be their GIANT menu. Some of you may be wondering, "Too many options?! What is that?!" It looks like pages and pages (and pages) of options that end up being overwhelming. I ordered the dolsat bibimbap (with spicy pork and medium sauce) because it was one of the Friday night specials (30% off) and because I found myself drooling over someone else's while I was waiting to be seated. Drew ordered the 007 roll. Both meals were served with a bowl of soup. Both orders came out hot and fresh. The egg on the top of the dolsat bibimbap was cooked perfectly! The food was all delicious! I would suggest ordering more than one sushi roll if you are a big eater. It didn't matter for Drew though because there was so much in the dolsat bibimbap bowl that he filled up on it when I was finished. Craziest thing of the night?? Our order totaled around $22! Love, love, love this restaurant. I meet my son here and he always brings a friend or two along. The Korean fried chicken boneless with the 4 sauces goes so fast the only concern is not burning your tongue because it is so fresh and hot. An extremely crispy coating marries remarkably with any of the four sauces. Try each one. I can't pick a favorite. Service has been excellent every time. The servers are nice and the sushi chef created some really beautiful pieces. Dragon roll and Lion King roll are favorites of ours. But we've ventured into several smaller rolls for fillers and to appease the vegetarian. I have never been disappointed. We have been on a typical college night where the majority of customers are college age students waiting for a table and on a Sunday evening with families (including children). We have never waited more than 5 mins to be seated. It seemed the restaurant was able to accommodate everyone comfortably. If you are looking for fancy decor then this will probably be a 4. But I'm bumping up to a 5 because it felt genuine and maybe it is the delicious meal where I didn't feel rushed and we all left feeling stuffed and happy. When I lived in Lafayette, I came here weekly for sushi. They stay very busy so I would call to pickup on my way home. Sushi is fresh and they were willing to customize one of my rolls. I always loved the house salad with the ginger dressing. Employees were always friendly and remember regulars. Went to check this place out after reading a fee reviews on yelp...have the admit we were pretty disappointed. Reviews I read and description said they were kid friendly. Well, I didn't expect a full on kids menu, but perhaps something along the lines of chicken nuggets,anyone a plain hamburger or something along those lines would have been nice. I will give a pretty decent score for the food, but service was lackluster at best. The waitress we had didn't even introduce herself, just kind of handed us these binder ring menus and walked away. When she did come back, she didn't offer any assistance in what is good or on special. We ordered what we thought was a decent amount of food, much more came out than we expected. Not necessarily a bad thing but we could have ordered much less and still been full. Also, when she did bring the food, apparently she is not used to little kids (toddlers) as she set everything possible within his reach. Not the smartest of choices. Waitress rarely checked on us and I had to ask a different one for a refill on water and yet another for our check. It was a Friday but they were only half full by the time we left. It's a fried vegetable dumpling that comes with this amazing sauce that taste like soy with something else...I just can't put my finger (or tastebuds) on it. Then comes the soup (miso) and salad to the table. The soup is a basic miso. The salad looks like a pretty basic small salad as well till you taste it!!! Their ginger dressing is delicious! My friends and I actually drink the rest of whats left in the bowl after we've consumed the actual salad part. I even take it a step further and order a container of it to go so I can put it on my salads at home and work. Yelp, I like it that much! Ha ha! I love the sushi roll "the Salmon Avalanche." It consist of Salmon, crab, & cream cheese, deep friend, then baked, and toped with spicy mayo. Then I always get the traditional California or alaskan roll to accompany the 1st roll. There are many varieties to choose from when it comes to sushi and other asian fusion eats! I have previously written a review for Sushi Don before but need to post a new one. The service and food have gone downhill. I was in this afternoon, at 4:30 when the reopened from lunch, and was the first one sat. My server didn't come for 5 minutes, after every other person that came in after me was sat. I wanted the bulgogi dish, which is Korean BBQ. He wasn't sure if the item I wanted was on the menu anymore, so I asked him to go check and he was irritated with me. It's like he didn't give two craps that I was trying to order. Of course, they had changed the menu. I drove all the way from Indy to Lafayette JUST to have that dish. I had to settle for something similar, that wasn't nearly as good. I would give it a 3/10. Anyways, because he was so spacey, I truly thought he would forget my order. He was young with dark hair. He mumbled the entire time, so I had no idea what his name was. He was the only male working as a server while I was there. I am honestly not sure if I'm going to go back.
