Great sushi and bulgolgi. I love coming here and it is almost always crowded, which is a good sign. The staff has been consistently friendly and they always welcome you upon entering. The only complaints I could possibly make are that the wait time can be quite long and the tables don't really accommodate for the amount of food you would typically get. Best sushi in Lafayette. This cozy restaurant right on one of the main intersection of town is one of our favorite restaurants in the state. Pricing is fair and affordable with most large meals coming in around 15 bucks and include a miso soup and a salad. Small meals are around 8 to 10 bucks and will fill a less ravenous person easily. Parking can be tricky for larger vehicles so take care when planning your visit. If you arrive during the slow times of day your meal will arrive looking like an exquisite work of art. During peak hours the food is prepared fast and presentation is still good. The chefs are top notch and in view while they prepare. All the servers tend to be great with few exceptions. There are other items available for youngsters and picky eaters(fried chicken etc.) Some items I recommend for new customers would be "The mountain", "dragon ball" and "super OMG"(It's on fire, literally). For appetizers, I recommend "Gyoza" or the "magic mushroom" dish. They used to greet every costumer warmly as you arrived but this tradition has been lax as of late. The waiters will be familiar if you return often as they tend to hire the best and keep the best. Don't be afraid to try new things at this restaurant. We've had almost every item on the menu and barring a few exceptions, everything has been great. If you don't like strong taste, avoid the eel and smoked salmon dishes. read more

I've been here a couple of times, and every time I've had a really great experience. First off, they have a good variety of sushi, including many vegetarian options (my favorite is the sweet potato tempura). The food is amazing and the prices are quite cheap, especially since they have so many specials. Our server the last time I was there was very attentive and helpful. Our party including vegetarians and someone allergic to dairy and our server helped us pick out what was best for everyone's dietary restrictions and suggested some good substitutions. Recently went to Sushi Don for lunch with family since our first choice, Heisei, was closed for winter break. We waited sometime for drinks. Half of the restaurant was filled with mostly tables of two and there seemed to be two servers working. Eventually we got our order in just as we were considering trying some place else. Forty-five minutes go past and our server is nowhere to be found. Right before we had to leave the roof behind the sushi bar started to let in massive amounts of water. A great restaurant for being located in Indiana! I've only gotten the sushi so far and although the rice could use some work, it's probably the best I've had within the Purdue area so far. Definitely come on Tuesday or Thursday, because they have half off on sushi rolls. But beware, because of the deal, there are a lot more customers towards the usual lunch/dinner rush hours (the line nearly goes out the door). In addition, service will be slower because the restaurant is full. In my opinion a good time to go would be sometime between 4pm and 5pm. read more

We went to Sushi Don because our usual haunt was closed for Purdue's Christmas break. The service here is awful. We waited 15-20 minutes in between courses, had to flag down our waitress just to get the check and flag down another server to pay. The restaurant was moderately busy, but there were several servers for very few tables so I can't see why they seemed to be having so much trouble. My table got our food before another table which was seated and had gotten their order in before we sat down. When they asked why, the waitress told them the kitchen was just busy. The food was only okay. The sushi rolls are so big it is impossible to eat the slices in one bite and the eel sauce they topped them with was so thick, it was gelatinous, which I found to be very unappetizing. Rolls were 30% off the evening we were there, so the prices were comparable to other sushi restaurants in town, but regularly they would cost more. My rainbow roll was topped with egg, which I thought odd. Overall, just not worth the cost and hassle, in my opinion. I can't say I will return. read more

Overall, its alright for a midwest sushi place. Me and my group ordered udon, dukboki, and various sushi and sashimi platters. To start, the udon was okay, not good not bad, and the rolled sushi was tasty. However, some sashimi pieces were slightly frozen, and a bone was found in a piece of salmon. The highlight was the dukboki, as its depth of flavor and its sweet and spicy taste was refreshing and comforting. The one setback is that if you go on half off days it's super crowded and u have to stand in this tiny little area with a bunch of other people for a while.
