It's conveniently located to the theater and the only Japanese place in town thus the crowd. Stopped by few times for dinner. We ordered rolls (rainbow , mango) and the saki combo the first time we went and it was bland but not bad. We went back again and this time we ordered the sushi sashimi combo and the sushi combo...what a big disappointment...there was absolutely no variety - it was mostly white fish, no salmon or tobiko, or the usual variety of fish that comes with a combo...they basically gave us all cheap white fish and tuna. We were surprised especially with that price point we were expecting more variety in the combo dishes. We won't be going back. Used to be awesome when they first opened and for some time thereafter, but the service, prices, and cleanliness are getting worse. I used to go several times a month for great fish and occasionally for happy hour specials. I stopped going here because I kept getting sick after eating here - every time. Be prepared to wait in their lobby an additional 15-20 minutes AFTER the time your pickup order is supposed to be ready before they give you the order, and be prepared to be ignored the entire time you wait because other people will be waiting, too. Know you will have to get back in line to ask about your order at least once, and you'll be told "one more minute" about 15 times. Thought this was a fluke but it's happened the last 3 times we ordered, at varying times of day. In other words, don't order pickup if you are actually hungry. I came here with a couple of friends for a late dinner. We ordered 3 rolls - the crunchy roll (I think, could have also been the XXX), the updated rainbow (I think), and the lion king roll. First of all, I adore the plating here - its very aesthetically pleasing. Also, if you order sashimi, it comes in a tall glass. Dinner comes with miso soup, so even though its listed on the menu for $3, don't worry about it. Updated rainbow roll was really good! A lot of flavors going on but they all work well together. I liked that when the plate came out, one of the rolls had a glowing ice cube hidden under some garnish to make it look like a volcano. Really fun idea there. There are several other eateries in the area, so parking may be a challenge during the "rush hour". DINING IN: There are a few big tables for larger parties and also booth seating. Some smaller tables to seat 2/4 people in the center. They also have seating at the bar if you prefer that. FOOD: A mix of Japanese rice dishes (donburis and bento boxes) as well as sushi/sashimi and roll offerings. You can either choose to order a la carte or take part in the AYCE sushi! (AYCE looks like it only included rolls from the look at their menu). I ordered the salmon teriyaki & mixed tempura bento box and was pleasantly surprised! There was a huge portion of salmon and so many piece of tempura! I thoroughly enjoyed the meal (and it also came with miso soup). I don't usually judge a book by it's cover.. but I should've stayed away from a place that calls themselves sushi fighter. My first experience here; the server was rude and matter of fact. So I'm the only person in this place, I sit down and as soon as I get the menu from someone, they say "we are closing soon, so you know." I told them it was only 8:30 and it says they close at 9:30. He responds with "well sometimes it's slow so, we close down early". Im a little irked and I say ok, and ask what they have to drink, he quickly goes through the choices and I didn't catch the choices so I ask him to repeat. He was visibly annoyed and so I just ask for a Diet Coke and he walks away. I'm done looking through the menu and I'm waiting for the staff to come back to ask for my order. No one comes, as I stare at the waiter who is now watching TV with other staff. I'm pretty upset that he was rushing me to order but he's standing there in front of the TV watching it. All around me are staff cleaning and it smells like cleaning solution. So I wait and finally say "excuse me I'm ready " and he looks my way and comes to the table and asks me to order. Not impressed at all. I see that my roll is ready, and I know it's my roll because I'm the only one there. It sits for a while on the counter, the sushi chef sees that I'm staring at the food while the waiter is staring at the TV. I'm pretty pissed. The food finally comes after the chef tells the waiter that I'm sitting there watching him. The food, which was not memorable at all - doesn't seem to fit the reviews. I am not an avid sushi eater but this place definitely was delicious! A little pricey for me to just go to for lunch but I would recommend this place for a nice dinner with friends. They decorate their plates very elegantly with the sushi! As a vegetarian, I found it easy to order off their menu and still eat something that was just as filling as my friends. You can also order for takeout but be sure to call ahead because the wait for the food can take some time. Some of the servers are students at Saint Mary's College and for the most part are very polite and attentive but when they are busy it can be a bit rushed. A girl can only eat so many rolls, I'd like to get my money's worth on multiple orders of $5 super white tuna nigiri. So imagine how disappointed and distraught I was when I found out (1) there's a whole other menu for AYCE and (2) nigiri is NOT on that AYCE menu. So eat $24.99 worth in rolls & don't waste rice because they will charge. My boyfriend and I ordered about 5 rolls between the both of us and by the 5th roll, they all seemed to blend together. The deep fried rolls all tasted the same; I was overwhelmed by the batter. The only two rolls that I really liked were the (1) Bay Island (cucumber, avocado, imitation crab, and super white tuna on top -- yes, I got my super white tuna... too bad it was baked with the rest of the roll... no nigiri for me) and (2) the 49er (imitation crab, avocado, salmon and lemon slices -- how can anyone mess up a classic roll like this, though!) We order at least two rolls that had so many spicy ingredients (one roll had crumbles of Hot Cheetos on it!) and yet, none of them had any sort of kick to it. Maybe we just have a high tolerance for spicy... but it was disappointing. Long story short: I wasn't pleased. A limited AYCE menu with ONLY rolls. Nigiri only a la carte. The deep fried rolls all tasted the same. Spicy isn't really spicy. BUT, they give you miso soup free of charge...
