Its kind of hidden, but gotta hit it up if you're near Capitola. The quality of the fish here makes me happy! Even if sushi places are near the ocean, fresh fish carrying houses are pretty hard to come by, but they do it right. The roles are not cheap on the fish- thank God! There are go chunks of seafood in each roll and even the nigiri has nice portions of fish over decent sized rice. Too often its the other way around, and this is a nice change. They don't have that many spicy or fried rolls, which is a good sign that their stuff is fresh and they have nothing to hide. Even their tuna sashimi had great texture, which is also quite rare because the red and white cuts are often the cheap ones that they keep frozen in most shops. Saw high reviews so decided to try it! From the street it doesn't look like much but you're greeted by a cute little koi fish pond. We tried the White Dragon and Dynamite rolls, along with Salmon Nigiri. All delicious. We didn't care for the Regulator roll so much but overall, nice dining experience. I recently went with a friend for dinner and I had the BEST service ever. I had to ask the waitresses name because she's not only really quick but really sweet. Her name is Lindz or Lindsay and she definitely made the experience even better. I've been coming to this restaurant for years but recently the service has gotten a lot better. I always get teriyaki beef, sushi, and a california roll and it's delicious everytime. They've raised their prices a lot since I first started coming here. It used to be 13.50 for a 3 item combo box and now it's 15.50. I hope that it's because the cost of goods has gone up and not the owners being greedy. Also, you don't get free edemame any more! Generous portions of very well made Japanese food, including the rolls and nigiri. The oyako don was large, with a lot of vegetables and seasonings, although if you're looking for a homestyle or comfort food type of oyako don this isn't it. If you are in the area and are looking sushi this is my favorite spot. The rolls are a little on the spendy side but once you get one you realize they are bigger than most, so instead of getting 3 to 4 rolls you might only need to get 1 or 2 so it's great to go with people so you can share. Worst Sushi we ever ate.. After waiting an hour for a table we were anxious to try some sushi based on Yelp reviews. We were visiting from the Sacramento area. The place was hopping and the staff was doing their best to keep up with multiple tables that needed to be bussed . After watching one waitress do a half fast job of wiping a table with a dirty looking rag then scooping something off the floor, I wondered how many times it had been used. After finally getting seated we got a very nice waitress ,unfortunately the food was just awful. Salmon Teriyaki was dried out and had an odd clear sweet sticky sauce on top . Certainly not Teriyaki. The sushi rolls we got were nasty . We were so stunned as to try to understand why this place is in business. I just guess these people have no clue what good quality fresh sushi is. read more

Read reviews on yelp and decided to give this place a try. Not too long of a wait to get a table on a Saturday night... But then it went downhill from there. My girlfriend liked a couple rolls on the menu but couldn't decide. The waitress suggested changing the fish in one roll so we ordered that. It was crazy hot that day and hot in the restaurant. We asked for water and got room temperature water with no ice. We never got refills. It took over an HOUR to get our food. Not sure if it was a bad night or what but many people were complaining about the long wait. All the other tables around us got "complementary edamame" but we never did. Finally our rolls came. They were ok but nothing special. Not worth the rather high price (compared to other sushi places in town). When our bill came there was an upgrade for $3 to change the fish in the roll! The waitress never mentioned that when we placed the order. Maybe it was just a bad night... Hence me giving it 2 stars instead of 1. But I doubt I will go back again. Well I hate to have to write this review on our family's favorite sushi spot... The service we had last night was horrible!! My husband and I have 3 children and we like to frequent our favorite restaurants and Sushi Garden WAS one of them. It is sad to say but I don't think we will return... -Our table was so close to the table next to us, I had to squeeze in and apologize to the family next to us. -We were never offered a high chair or booster for our 2 year old. -I got up to find our own napkins and chop sticks. -The girl cleaning the table next to us asked if she should sweep the floor before they sat another party. The person she asked said, "No". I looked down to see a mess of napkins and rice. There were 2 young children that made the mess. -We felt ignored throughout our whole visit. -Anything we needed, I had to track down our server to get it. Once again, I'm so sorry that I had to write this, but it is very rare that I'm this disappointed in a place that I have been going to for as long as I can remember. I really hope that management gets a hold of this Customer Service issue. read more

I am sorry, but I did not like this place. The service was not to friendly and I have never seen Tilapia as Nigiri and Sashimi like they had in the Bento Box. I did not like the flavor at all, for me it should be at least Salmon /Tuna as Sashimi in the Bento Box. The Sashimi and Nigiri and even the California rolls tasted to much (bad) fish flavor. Holy moly! This place is unsuspecting from the road, but they have some of the sweetest, butteriest, freshest fish I've ever eaten. We started with the baked mussels (yes!) and then chowed down on the Dr. Woo roll (it's got both basil and garlic and it's amazing) along with some of the biggest, butteriest piece of sashimi we've ever had. I really like the sushi at Sushi Garden and have had few disappointments. But the service is so bad, that I can't help but comment. Some of the sushi chefs are friendly and helpful, others are so unhelpful that they seem to not want to face customers. The waitresses are never friendly and usually not helpful. Geez, what is it going to take for them to realize that the whole package is important? I explained to my friend from out of town that I took her there for the variety, not the service. BUT, the truth is, a truly good sushi restaurant will only offer about 10 "special rolls" because they should feature the good quality fish and really think about what ingredients work together. Sushi Garden basically just dumps tempura crisps and spicy mayo on everything. We ordered two rolls, the first was decent, and the second had crab in it that tasted absolutely RANCID...it had gone bad (which is hard considering it's fake crab and it's frozen...) but yes, it was so bad we each took one bite and couldn't touch it again. But you know this! With lots of local competition, my guess is that you'll take some time to figure out how to solve this problem. Thanks for re-doing the "I Love You Roll," but the makeup roll was just as sad, more like the "Breakup Roll." Get your act together, guys! read more

The best sushi place in Santa Cruz county. This is conveniently located in the courtyard garden area of the complex which is situated right across the street from Nob Hill Grocery on Bay Ave in Capitola. We are fans of the White Dragon and the Grinch roll, among others, but their unadorned sashimi is also excellent quality, and the miso soup is very well prepared also. It is a popular spot at peak times, but they manage the wait list very well, and their recent expansion has increased seating capacity and provided a nice bar/lounge area as well. read more
