I should have walked out as soon as they put the food in front of me. I had ordered vegetable fried rice for $13, and I expected to find some nicely steamed vegetables like broccoli, green onions, perhaps red bell peppers, or something nice on the rice. I had a great time here; there's a lot to choose from so everyone should walk away happy! The vegas rolls were great, as well as the dragon roll which is my favorite. The food tasted fresh, and I think they were generous with the sizes. I'm a little conflicted on the atmosphere. On one hand it's really fun and easy going. But I also couldn't help but notice that some of the furniture was dirtier than I would have preferred. That being said it is a little on the expensive side. Was not a fan of the buffet. Or any buffet for that matter.. but we move on. Place has great service and the ambiance is simple. Which is good. Lots of folks going in and out so locals live it which made me happy. We had a little surprise party and we wer taken care of perfectly. The chicken salad I had was great and the rolls looked delish. I'm sorry to say I was not impressed with the sushi here. They seated us in the bar - weird when we arrived at 12 when they opened but ok I guess, even though the table had a thick sticky type of top on it. The bartender was nice enough though, and brought us our spicy tuna roll fast and my miso soup fast. The soup was ok, but the quality of the sushi I had an issue with. It was like a paste inside and overall kind of a big loose roll. When I let her know, she insisted that's how all spicy tuna rolls were. I let her know I used to be a waitress in a sushi place (probably before she was born since it was 30 years ago but I didn't say that) and I'd never had spicy tuna like that. She kept telling me in LA that's how it was. Eye roll here, as I was rollerblading up and down the boardwalk in Santa Monica in 1992 and I know what fresh fish is and this ain't it hon, but whatever!! I know it's lunch and let's move on - we replaced it with yellowtail, supposedly cut from the fish and not in a paste-like consistency. I'll show a pic. To me it looked exactly like the spicy tuna:not appetizing. I brought it home for my boyfriend, who grew up in LA. He said it was diced fish and not good. It had a fishy taste which means it's old. His words: it's like it's all ground up in a food processor. On a better note, the shrimp tempura in the bento box was light and crispy, and the salad and noodles were flavorful. I have been coming to sushi garden BEFORE the world went crazy (pre-rona). We used to go very often, my husband and I loved their all-you-can-eat sushi. Since Rona, the all-you-can-eat sushi has since then gone away (sadly). However, we still enjoy coming every now and then. My ALL time favorite roll is the Tempura roll. OMG, I can live off of that roll, it is always so delicious. However, I have noticed that the portion is less now, but I did also noticed that the price for my sushi roll also went down a bit, so it definitely compensates. Their Crab puffs are my absolute favorite along with other items that where not ordered on this round. My husband LOVES the Rainbow roll. We always try different rolls as well, after getting our favs first. I have been to other sushi places, and it may be that I absolute enjoy Sushi Garden, but I just dont find other places to be as good or enjoyable for me specifically. I dont eat raw fish, so I struggle in some places to find a sushi roll I will like that is cooked or that it doesnt have raw fish. I have never gotten bad service here at Sushi Garden, but service does vary. I will either get an absolute great server who is attentive to our table but not hovering or we will get a server who is just in a "hurry" and drops everything off without asking if everything is ok or if we need anything. However, whenever we get a server that is in a "hurry" the entire time, I have notice that other co-workers come and check on us and brings us anything that we need. So, seeing them work as teammates is really nice. I have worked in the restaurant industry in the past and I know how busy, overwhelming and crazy it can get and being able to rely on co-workers for assistance is always a must and nice to see. I have been to places were we are completely ignored by EVERYONE and that is not a pleasant feeling. read more

The food options were plentiful enough for me, but it didn't seem like they switched out the trays too often, so I was left in the great buffet debate of: do I take the bottom scrapings or wait for a new batch..... I was too hungry so I ended up doing the former, but I though the food was still warm enough. They had fried rice on the buffet, but if you want white rice, you'll have to ask your waiter for some (which I was surprised by - most buffets just have a rice cooker out). Overall, I was pleased with the buffet (since I'm not a sushi eater), and I'll probably go this route from now on. The food was great but not the service. We came here on Wednesday after my kids graduation and there was an issue with our order. They gave me two starches instead of a salad that came with the meal and when I pointed it out if it comes like this, the server said no and then proceeded to yank my plate away from me! She never asked if she could take my plate or informed me that she will get this sorted but just swipes it away and disappears with it. Comes back with the same plate a few minutes later minus the yakisoba noodles and never apologizes. I found it really off putting and rude. Oh and when the other server drops off the sushi, they practically let the plate drop so it clatters loudly. Honestly with that experience, I would be embarrassed to recommend this place in case it ever happened to them too. I'd like to give 3.5 but they aren't quite at a 4 so I'll stick with 3. My go to order is fried tofu (GREAT!) the garden roll (no carrot, FANTASTIC, and the jalenpeno sauce is very good) and some other veggie roll (never a miss). My friend typically gets the crab puffs and a fried roll. Others have ordered various hot dishes. All that to say the food is always tasty and reasonably priced. However, the cons are the presentation and consistency. Sometimes the rolls are sloppy and don't hold together, the contents of the sushi rolls can be skimpy or very full, sometimes the rice to filling ratio is way off, and it will never be pretty on the plate. I'm happy cause the taste is always consistent. You'll just never know what it'll look like this time you order. :) It's right next to my yoga studio so I'll always have Sushi Garden as my go to spot. read more

I love Sushi Garden for their lunch buffet. Everything is clean, classy, and fresh. The environment is chic and a hot spot for business meetings, dates, families and solo outings. There is a large sushi bar lit up naturally from the many windows. There is parking in the back with entrances from country Club and Broadway. Although I have yet to order from the main menu I think Sushi Garden earned four stars for having a buffet that I keep coming back to. We dined in on a Tuesday night, and it was busy! Good for Sushi Garden! Everyone was friendly, starting with calling to see if we required a reservation @5pm (it was not necessary). Sushi Garden also politely made sure we knew that the buffet was not available at this time. No problem, we understood. It was our FIRST TIME eating out since Covid-19 quarantine began, plus we were new to the area -- so, the positive experience really meant a lot! We were also celebrating a belated birthday and going to see a movie that evening at the adjacent mall (also our first time doing that with COVID restrictions). Sushi Garden has an EXTENSIVE menu (decisions, decisions), lots of fun sushi rolls, though we were looking for more traditional Japanese dishes, we'd like to try some of their more experimental ones (like the "Lollypop Roll"). The traditional dishes mostly came out PERFECTLY; correct presentation, doneness, and ratios/portions. Not cheap, but not overpriced either. Children were welcome. Nice bar and liquor selection (though seating area was closed). Restaurant looked pristinely clean! Loved the traditional touches and decorations. CONS: Waitress was not familiar with Japanese terms/words (she seemed new, not a big deal = glad we had menus to point at), did not mind paying extra for #octopus although it arrived sliced too thickly to properly chew, bathroom having "semi-opaque" walls is freaky...though it's a pretty space. I absolutely love this place! Being from Southern California the prices here are very reasonable for the quality you receive! The servers are very nice and the inside is really unique! My favorite roll I've tried here is the Baja Jalapeño Roll. I also really enjoy the Rainbow roll! The rainbow roll here costs $13.80 which is great compared to the prices near me at home! Today I've decided to try the spicy orange chicken lunch box. The flavor was on point but the lunch box size itself was deceiving. All I got was 5 pieces of chicken, I was honestly expecting more. The little old lady at the front door is such a bitch. Told her the last time we were going to do the buffet and she literally threw the menus back and said " sit where ever" and turned away. This time I told her that we were going to use the menus and she was like ok. Tries to sit us at a tiny table and I told her that I wanted to sit in a booth.
