Omakase, Super quality and tasty for 120$, in the city!!' The service is great, the food os delicious, if you have a special dinner this is the place.

They have lunch menu which is more friendly to the pocket book. But, dinner is special. The ambiance is nice and a good place to bring friends. For the quality of fish, well done vinegar rice on the Nigiri and the unique hot and cold dishes, this place is a gem. Was lucky to find this on Yelp. Thanks Yelp friends for sharing this amazing Japanese restaurant on the North side of the city

I think the pictures do the story telling. Great sushi and even better service. They brought out 3 different Sakes to try, we also went with Sushi Omakase at the bar, at the lower table that's a little more private and bigger. Went on a Thursday evening and the setting was ideal, a few other couples but that's it. No loud noises and could carry on my conversation without straining. Spent almost 2.5 hours, great conversation, drank lots of sake and the food was tasty and we could tell, very fresh. This might be my neighborhood 'goto' sushi.

The uni tonight wasn't fresh, caviar tartar was my favorite, but one thing that I have to mention, the service is beyond amazing, with true respect and care ! Wonderful dinner, will always come back

I really enjoyed my experience here. The menu items and food quality were good for the price. I also really appreciated the beautiful presentation of each dish. The service was exceptional. The staff were all so nice, attentive, and knowledgeable. The ambiance was great with dim lighting. We came here for an anniversary celebration and the environment and food did not disappoint!

This was my first omakase and it was the best birthday dinner I have ever had! I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar because the chef is such a pleasure to talk and the menu is more expansive. I came here as a recommendation from a friend experienced with omakase who raved about the quality and price of Sushi Hakko. All the dishes had amazing flavor, the fish was fresh, and the nigiris were seasoned perfectly. The chef told us that he made the soy sauce 5 years ago and the ginger 3 years ago, which really made a difference. The most stand-out parts to me were the red snapper clear soup, the soy cured medium fatty tuna, the potato terrine, the a-grade sea urchin, the supreme fatty tuna, and the miso panna cotta. The sea urchin (uni) tastes super fresh and there was no fishy-ness at all. We added on the daily special Hakko Uni bowl ($35), which was a combination of rice, uni, and truffle, and it was perfect for sharing between 2 people. It wasn't my favorite part of the meal, but it was rich, delicious, and a great addition. The total cost came out to ~$250pp with tax and gratuity ($170 omakase + $35 supplement + tax/tip). I highly recommend coming here for an omakase experience!

I've actually been here 3 times in 2022. This is... the best bang for your buck omakase that I've had in the bay area. Omakase is like 170 or 180 pp pre-tip/tax I believe, and so you're looking to drop about 210 or 220ish when you come here. Hakko = Ferment in Japanese ... and it makes a lot of sense given the amount of care and love Chef Alex puts towards the ingredients he uses. Ask him about it when you get here. You'll be pleasantly amazed by it. Whether or not you can detect the value in the taste is based on yourself, but I can assure you that your tastebuds won't be offended at all. Everything tastes great here, and he mixes things up with the omakase by serving actual dishes in between the nigiri pieces as well. Sushi rice here is chef's kiss. Fish quality is chef's kiss. Where Hakko shines the best is actually not any of the above though - to me, it's actually his signature miso panna cotta dessert. You will taste it and understand. It is the most delicately sweet dessert with balanced flavors and sublime texture play. Ugh. I'd order 10x of these if I could, but they do take a lot of work so you can only get them via the omakase. His other signature is his toro tartare, which is also quite good, but if it had some citrus or a little more salt then it'd be even better. The only criticism I have of Hakko, which I've only noticed bc I've gone so frequently, is that the nigiri seasoning can be inconsistent. There are times when the fish is slightly too salty or underseasoned (like 1 piece out of the 10 of them), and because everything else is so good, the one flaw stands out even more. In a way I'm glad this occurs though... because I'm selfish. It's really only a matter of time till this place gets a Michelin star, and I'm dreading that day because the prices will likely increase as a result or the place will just be extremely hard to book. 9/10, would definitely come again (obviously) and definitely recommend to a friend. In fact, one of the reviewers on this place came as a recommendation from myself already and she enjoyed it quite a bit as well :)

My wife loved coming here for her Birthday. Very low key Sushi experience with fantastic food and service! We sat the bar and had the chefs Omakase. I think it was a great value for what we received. We got a lot of one-on-one time with Chef Alex which made the experience more fun for us. The flavors of each dish were unique and intricate. The fish was very high quality and the execution of each dish is what you would expect from a high end sushi experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice and the staff were very attentive to us. We came on a Saturday night and surprisingly it wasn't packed. Which could be great for those that want an intimate experience, but it could be a turn off for those that want to be in a lively atmosphere. Either way the food and service are what shines here.

Came here with my family last night so my parents could try omakase for the first time! We arrived ~30min early for our table reservation (it's a trek for us to get up to SF, especially on a weeknight) and they were able to seat us and get started straight away, which was a pleasant surprise. Despite being understaffed (the traffic on a Wednesday night was higher than expected due to the holiday season), the service was very friendly and attentive. They apologized many times for the slow service (which wasn't that slow for us; another party of 2 had to wait quite a while to get seated at the counter, but they were offered something on the house for the inconvenience), and overall were great! Onto the food: For the fair price point (as far as omakase goes), I was very impressed! I think the best (and most unique) piece was the toro tartare, which was tricky to eat but tasted great. Other notable pieces included the grilled king salmon, yellowtail, fatty tunas, butter fish, and AAA-grade uni. The miso panna cotta was also fantastic with the variety of textures (creamy, soft panna cotta + crunchy/sweet honey granola mix), and they gave us some additional chocolate truffles at the end which was wonderful! My only criticism would be that the preparation for both of the A5 wagyu pieces didn't do justice to the meat (the A5 wagyu w/ potatoes was kind of stew-like, which didn't bring out the best of the A5 texture/flavor. The piece with truffle was much better, but still didn't bring out the full A5 flavor IMO). Overall, a wonderful meal. We were only able to snag a table reservation due to our party size and short notice, so if given an excuse maybe I'd return someday to try their counter menu, which has a few more pieces that I'm curious to try, especially since the table menu turned out great :)

What a special experience!! Tip: definitely get the bar seating to have your beautiful morsels of sashimi handed to you directly from Chef-Owner Alex himself. The attention to ingredients and presentation here is one-of-a-kind. Chef Alex selects fish that is at its peak flavor during each season. Since it is winter, we indulged on rich cuts like King Salmon from New Zealand, and Winter Yellowtail. He seasons all of the nigiri rice with aged 4 year vinegar. And he sources his miso from two very specific artisans in Japan. It was hard to pick favorites, when the lineup included multiple cuts of rich fatty tuna, tender scallops, and even a miso-infused panna cotta. But I'd have to say the uni might possibly have been it for me. Incredible, earthy, creamy, and divine in a bite. Pair it with a champagne or sake and you're good to go! Oh yes, and the service was super attentive and kind. I will definitely be returning!

Wow. Just wow. Please sit at the sushi bar. It is both an intimate and fulfilling experience getting to watch the chefs not only make the food right before your eyes, but also explain to you their thought process for the dish. You learn so much while sitting at the sushi bar and speaking the chef! Plus you get to share what you've enjoyed with past sushi experiences. I really enjoyed speaking to the chef as he was such a delight to chat with! The staff was also very accommodating and explained every dish to us. TIP: the menu at the sushi bar differs from the table menu I'd also recommend trying the AAA Grade Uni which is additional $20 per piece but it's absolutely worth it! There were other options as add ons if you're not an uni type of person. Otherwise I really recommend trying this restaurant as it was such a great experience and really set the bar high for other sushi restaurant. I probably will have a hard time eating sushi anywhere else!

Vday set menu and sake pairing

This review is for only Valentine's Day menu. Sushi Hakko has been on my list of places to try after seeing my friend who has dined here many times before. Reservations were easy to make online. I was surprised at the slots open for vday weekend. Parking can be tricky since it's in the marina, but it's comes with the territory. It's $180/pp for Omakase. All the dishes were made especially for that valentines Omakase. My bf and I went the Sake pairing that was $170 and we both shared that. I'm so glad that we decided on doing the tasting. We found out some delicious sake to purchase in the near future. All the nigiri were delicious and the uni was the best part of the night. We added a supplement to our order. It was a uni bowl and it was amazing. They only make 3 per night. And we snagged the last one and they were not going to make any more. I felt so lucky. The only thing I wished that they didn't do was pre season the rice. I feel it tastes away from the fish, but overall it was delicious still. Also, the servers are great! They check in with you, tell you about each fish, and when you leave your seat they come and fold your napkin for you.

We only had 18 hours in SF during our west coast road-trip and of course we had to make a stop for omakase. After reading and researching probably every omakase spot, we finally decided to try this one out especially since it's quite new. Reservations were easy to get about two weeks prior. We opted to sit at the sushi bar to get the best experience and omakase was $145 with the option to add on the premium $40 supplement including uni, salmon belly, and a5 wagyu. We started off with a light lobster salad with a seaweed truffle dressing followed by a few nigiris. By the 4th piece my husband already declared this the best food we had in our west coast food trip. I do agree with others that the chef does use quite a bit of wasabi but he does offer to adjust based on your taste after the first piece. We decided to continue with the current amount but just a warning for those who do not love wasabi. His rice is also perfectly cooked and seasoned. We loved everything, but the favorites of the night were the cured tuna, Spanish mackerel, toro tartare of course, rosy seabass and of course the uni bowl. Each nigiri was so fresh and of melt in your mouth quality and all of the dishes were so unique. We've been to omakases all around the US but this is definitely our favorite one by far. We were so happy we ended up choosing sushi hakko despite them not being as popular (yet) as other surrounding omakases and hope they get the recognition they deserve!

The Strawberry Matcha was delicious and a great example of what they do really well -- the fruit matchas here shine and the strawberry flavor paired beautifully without overpowering the matcha. If fruity matcha drinks are your thing, this is your spot. The Matcha Latte with Sea Salt Foam was enjoyable but didn't quite hit the same way. The sea salt foam was a nice touch, but the matcha flavor itself was on the subtle side -- if you're someone who likes a bold, matcha-forward drink you might find yourself wanting more. Still good, just not the standout of the two. I'll definitely be back, but I'm taking my own advice and skipping the weekend rush next time. For $18, you get an incredible spread: * your choice of gyoza, shumai, or tofu * a California roll or avocado roll * a protein of your choice Plus it all comes with edamame, miso soup, and seaweed salad. Honestly? That's my kind of deal. Everything we tried was delicious. In addition to the lunch box, we ordered a dragon roll and a dynamite roll, both of which were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. My husband went with the Una Ten Donburi. It was tasty, but at $30, it did feel a bit steep compared to the rest of the menu. The restaurant looked like your typical Japanese style space with the sushi rollers at the entrance and simple tables and decor. I do have two minor negatives worth mentioning. First, the edamame was cold and unsalted. I'm an edamame lover, and nothing beats it hot, freshly steamed, and generously showered in salt. So that was a little disappointing. Second, our server (I believe his name was Kayz) seemed visibly annoyed when we asked to split the check. As a server myself, I know this isn't rocket science, and guests should never be made to feel uncomfortable for something so standard, especially after there had already been a small mix-up with our roll order (we received two dynamite rolls instead of one dynamite and one dragon). We didn't make a fuss at the time because mistakes happen, but the attitude at the end definitely stood out. That said, the food itself was solid, the lunch special is a fantastic value, and overall we still had a good experience. I would absolutely return and would recommend this spot, just hoping for a smoother service experience next time.

However, at the last minute, I went with the $19 Ika Yaki, a whole BBQ squid sliced and saturated in teriyaki sauce with a dab of shichimi mayo (Photo 8). The portion was generous and the texture was firm with enough elasticity. Unfortunately the teriyaki sauce did nothing to enhance the dish, and I wished they served it on the side. I also ordered the $8 Agedashi Tofu, usually a foolproof appetizer for me. It certainly looked right (Photo 9), but I was unpleasantly surprised how tongue-burning hot it was. The cubes of tofu must've just come right out of the deep fryer. The dashi broth helped calm the heat down but a little too late. I'm sure glad I sprung for the $3 bowl of Rice (Photo 10).
