Sushi House is our absolute FAVORITE place when we're craving some yummy rolls, and it has been for years now ;) My husband had never tried sushi before I introduced it to him to Sushi House and he is a proud convert now. We have a few items we order every time...the Yam Tempura Maki, Spider Roll, Honey Roll, Crunch Roll (to name a few)...we also LOVE the Sesame Chicken. I usually eat here at least once a week. I have never had an "average" meal here, it is always great and flavorful food. The service is quick and friendly, and their prices are extremely affordable. UPDATE: It takes a lot to keep up the quality of a restaurant over time. Often the staff changes too often for consistently good service and food preparation. But Sushi House has beaten the odds and has remained an excellent restaurant over the years. It is still the best sushi restaurant and best Chinese restaurant in Cedar Rapids. If you have not been here, you need to give it a try. Forget the substandard sushi you can buy in supermarkets and the stomach churning stuff served in local Chinese buffets. Although there are some other good local establishments, you need to go to Sushi House to experience the best. read more

This is my absolute favorite place for delicious, fresh tasting Chinese food and sushi!! I always feel as though the name throws people off because they have so much more than just sushi. I don't even really like most types of sushi. I go to this place to get the greatest noodles dishes I've found in Cedar Rapids. Also their tempura is to die for! This is probably the best sushi in Cedar Rapids. Quality is consistently great, service is quick but it does get pretty packed on the weekends. The crab ragoons are second only to Phong Lan, and the Chinese entrées are always fresh, in terms of quality and taste definitely the best around. If you like sushi there aren't many options in Cedar Rapids, but the Sushi House is a nice little restaurant, tucked out of the way on Edgewood that offers some interesting sushi options. I generally frequent this establishment for lunch and purchase a bento box. This comes with entree, salad, soup, tempura, some sushi. It's a great way to sample the various options on the menu and is very tasty. The sushi and sashimi are made to order in the restaurant and it's fun to watch the creations. I've also tried their sushi cones which were tasty but I found to be cumbersome to try and eat. They were large and fell apart as I attempted to dip them in soy sauce. They offered a larger portion size than sushi and essentially tasted the same so that is note worthy. They are usually pretty busy around the noon meal but the service is quick and efficient. read more

I started using The Sushi house years ago because their good prices and sushi. I still eat there fairly regularly but they have had a price increase that makes it harder to go as often. The prices are still better than most sushi places but you will have to pay for each eel sauce and if you think you are ordering one thing but get not what you were wanting you will still have to pay. I enjoy their sushi and the fact that I can afford to eat there occasionally. I still drag friends there and force them to try it. To this day I haven't yet had anyone disagree that the food is great. Also as my friends aren't used to the lower prices I was accustomed to, everyone I have brought have stated that the prices are very reasonable. Some of our favorites include the edamame, California roll, Alaska roll, spider roll (no spider's in it), Philadelphia roll, Shitake roll, honey roll and the Volcano something ( they claim it's spicy but it's not). This place was much better a few years ago, and I keep going back in hopes that the bad occasions are just flukes, but the bad times have outweighed the good as of late (and girly mags tell me that's a good time to break up). The service is horrible with the exception of one or two of the waitresses. The sushi will be fresh and perfectly prepared some nights, but other nights it would be downright funky. Plus, the last couple of occasions I've gone, there's been a strong fishy smell in the restaurant. I swear it's not me. read more

I normally love Sushi House and the food is great! The waitress we had today was not great. We ordered a vegetable roll and she brought out a vegetable pad thai meal. We told her we said vegetable roll and she proceeded to argue with us and we ended up having to pay an extra 13 dollars for a meal we didn't actually get. Better than I expected! I'm in town from San Diego visiting family and we went for a late lunch the day I got in. Coming from the west coast where seafood can't get much fresher I was hesitant on how good it could possibly be. I was gladly surprised. I had my usual philly and spicy tuna rolls which were as good as back home. My father apparently tries something new everytime and I had the chance to try everything he ordered. I don't remember the names but there was squid which was good, eel which was very good, the angel roll was great, and a shrimp app that was also good. My stepmom always gets the stuffed eggplant and it too was excellent. The atmosphere was nice inside and the service was attentive. Its nice to know there's great sushi in Cedar Rapids! p.s. If you really want sushi and don't want to drive to Iowa City, then I guess this might satisfy your most base cravings. The staff was reasonably friendly, but the sushi was not the freshest or best made and I was too unimpressed to finish my meal. My husband didn't get a to-go box either. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra fifteen minutes to some of the better sushi places in Iowa City if you want to finish your meal. read more

After reading the rave reviews of this restaurant, I felt the need to add one more. Sushi House is still one of my favorite restaurants in Cedar Rapids. It looks a bit modest on the outside, but once you are inside....get ready to enjoy!! The atmosphere is nice, and the food is great. I have not tried anything on the menu that I did not like. Compared to all the other sushi restaurants in town, this one ranks right up there in taste and is #1 in price. The value of this place is really unbelievable! I recommend the honey roll for those who like cooked sushi and spicy salmon for those who like raw. The ginger crispy beef and tempura appetizer are some other favorites of mine. You MUST check this restaurant out....I guarantee you will go back...soon!! read more

I visited Sushi House in Cedar Rapids, IA at 2665 Edgewood Pkwy SW Ste. 100, on Friday June18, 2021. I gave the wait staff my debit card to pay for my food. She came back to the table in less than five minutes and informed me that she lost my card. I looked around the restaurant along with her and other staff. I informed the wait staff that I did not have any other card to pay and that I had $8.00 in my wallet, she asked if I could go get the money and bring it back. She said that the manager would take the payment out of her check if I did not pay for it. The manager agreed and said that she was the one that lost it. He did not apologize for my inconvenience or dissatisfaction. Nor did he offer any empathy to the situation, he was only concerned with who was paying the bill. I asked my daughter to lend me the money to pay the bill, after canceling my debit card from the banking app on my phone. I felt empathy for the wait staff that worked for a company that did not support her in her mishap. I reassured the wait staff that accidents happen, and it was alright. With that said I will never eat at Sushi House again, I was very, very displeased with how the situation was handled. read more

They have a lot of variety of dishes from different Asian cultures but they should really just stick to specializing in one or two bc it seems like you're overpaying for stir fry or Chinese food. Sushi is not memorable and not fresh, and you will especially notice this if you have been exposed to sushi places on any of the coasts or bigger cities. Love this restaurant. And not just for the sushi. Try this place at lunch. They have great lunch specials. I love the lunch boxes. A large square "plate" with 4 or 5 items plus soup. When we go for supper, I cant force myself to order anything besides the Mandarin Stuffed Eggplant.. Seafood somehow stuffed into bias cut eggplant in a dark delicious sauce. My Husband is a big fan of the Hot Braised Shrimp. My daughter loves the Pad Thai. The restaurant is small but set up well. Waiter service is friendly and they appreciate if you have your order ready. The waiter gave us a lucky $100 bill key chain the last time we were there.. Now thats a first!! New and imaginative selections alongside some go to traditional options. Cooked or uncooked you will find what you like here. Mason was my server and gave some great recommendations.
