Crystal Roll: $15 ($16.29 with tax)
    Harris L.

We visited Sushi Kaiyo for a late evening dinner, and ordered: - Sushi Sashimi Combo for 1: $30 ($32.59 with tax). This dish had a lot of food; fortunately, there were two of us. The fish was fresh and presented at the right temperature. The included miso soup was over-salted. - Crystal Roll: $15 ($16.29 with tax). Aside from the sushi rice being slightly too hard, we liked everything else about the roll. The Crystal Roll was colorful and flavorful. The wasabi here is very strong. Suggested tips are calculated on post-tax subtotals and start at 20%, which is a bit high since there isn't complementary tea.

two roll lunch special with tuna & Yellowtail
    Paula L.

I ordered a two roll lunch special. I got two hand rolls. Yellowtail scallion and a tuna. I also got a crystal roll. The crystal roll was very tasty. The hand rolls were tasty too. My only complaint is I don't like mushy fish. i ordered tuna. not spicy tuna. i did not expect it to be all chopped up. The same thing for the yellowtail. The lady that took my order was super nice. I told her I'd wait outside by my car until the order was ready. The order was ready pretty quickly and she came out and gave it to me. I would definitely go back there if I'm in that neighborhood again

My friends and I were in the Mineola area and wanted to pick up some sushi take out for lunch. We stumbled upon Kaiyo and decided to order 2 orders of crispy rice and the sushi lunch special, which was 3 rolls for $18. We got a spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail roll- all with spicy mayo, eel sauce and crunchies on top. Everything was SUPER good. Def going back.

    Sashimi sushi boat for 2

This spot is so good! Feeling in a sushi mood...we walked in on a Fri. evening to have dinner at 7:30 PM, and we were able to get a table immediately. Our order was the sushi sashimi boat for 2, and also a couple of appetizers (pan fried shrimp dumplings and also the takoyaki--squid potato balls pretty good). The thing that blew my mind was the quality and freshness of the fish. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. I thought our waiter was helpful and accommodating. We had many requests, and he was patient as we ordered even more honey plum wine, raw oysters and more dumplings. I love the presentation of our sushi and sashimi. It was so beautiful, and I can tell you it was worth it! I would definitely return and recommend it to my friends.

Can I tell you that I really love this place. Family owned business with indoor seating, can be good for groups. The fish is super fresh and the food presentation is up to par. There's so much selection in their menu. I especially loved the ikayaki which is a grilled squid with sweet sauce. The squid was cook just right, it was delicious and chewy. Besides sushi they also have ramen, udon, and bento boxes in their menu. I can't wait to try the rest. If you're really hungry I would recommend ordering the sushi and sashimi for two which also includes two special rolls order and your choice of miso soup or salad. They have a variety of special rolls to choose from. The customer service was excellent. I noticed that they do get a lot of take out orders. We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive to our table. The service was very attentive.

This sushi spot is definitely up there on my list within this area! It's a small mom and pop shop but there are several tables inside, mainly for smaller parties. I can tell that they get a lot of take out orders and they fulfill these orders pretty quickly too. I've gotten take out but also dined in and the quality doesn't differ when you do take out! The prices are very comparable to other sushi spots but I think the quality here is much better than most spots in Queens/Long Island. I love raw fish so rolls and sashimi are always my go-to items to order. There's a huge selection of special rolls and if you look at their online menu, there are pictures associated with each of them. I like to see what my food would look like and plus, it actually comes out looking like the picture, if not better! I think all their rolls are great. The filling to rice ratio is perfect and as I mentioned, the quality has always been great with every order. The shrimp tempura are actually meaty pieces of shrimp compared to other spots that are mostly just batter and they put generous amounts of raw fish as well. The sashimi is also in even, thick cuts and just delicious! A hidden gem but definitely deserves more traction! I know I'll be back here for sure.

Been ordering takeout sushi from Sushi Kaiyo, since the quality of sushi from our go-to spot has declined. They are pretty generous with the cuts and I haven't encountered any foul smelling fish. Everything has been fresh and presented nicely and hygienically. I've ordered the chirashi, rolls and sushi and have been very pleased. Excited to try out other items on their menu!

Who knew about this hidden gem? Tucked away next to NYU Langone in Mineola, this place might have the best sushi in Nassau. It's a small family run restaurant but the food here is really just top notch. We got the sushi sahimi for 3 (which really is enough to feed 4-5) and we really enjoyed it. The fish was fresh and they were generous with the amounts of food. What makes this combo great is that you can pick 3 of their specialty rolls to boot on top of the sushi and sashimi and their rolls are just simply delicious. The nami roll, spicy king crab and volcano roll were all beyond my expectations. We also tried their spicy tuna crispy rice which was really surprisingly good as well - on par with much higher priced restaurants. Hamachi kama was also fresh and cooked to perfection. Staff here is very welcoming and prices IMO are pretty cheap for the quality and quantity. Hard to say there's a better value in the area. Thumbs up.

I wish I could give more stars. Best sushi in the area by a longgggg shot!!! Place is small but feels homey. Servers and owners are supernice and, again, i'm still daydreaming of our dinner. The combo with sushi, sashimi and 2 special rolls for 2 is totally worth it.

The dish included some bok choy, and a generous amount of bamboo slices. - Two Rolls Lunch Special: $10.95; $11.92 with tax. We ordered an Eel Avocado Roll and a Salmon Avocado Roll. The eel was chewier than expected, the salmon could have been fresher. Complimentary water was provided. Service was OK, and the dining room was bright and pleasant. The restrooms could be better maintained. The women's restroom was out of service when we visited, so the men's restroom should have had more toilet paper and paper towels. I hope Miso Ramen and Hibachi considers revising its menu, as Youta Ramen down the road seems to have more contemporary and interesting offerings. I would have liked a Black Garlic option. The waitstaff were attentive and helpful. Only complaint about the setting is that every time someone went in or out, a rush of cold air would enter. Try not to sit too close to the door. As far as the food, daughter and I just ordered soon dubu (soft tofu stew) and ddukbokki (spicy rice cakes). We're Korean so flavor profile wise, it seemed to cater to non Korean palates. The soon dubu was not spicy and had too much of a sesame oil flavor and the ddukbokki was sweet with no spiciness at all. I think if you are non Korean, the seasoning was good and the food flavorful, just not the flavors we were expecting. Also, although the menu makes it seem like you have to pay for the banchan (appetizers), we did not, it came with the staple kimchee, and a couple other dishes. Not sure why they had prices on the menu unless they charge for refills? They also gave us this yummy ice cream bite for dessert which is usually unheard of in Korean restaurants. Having said all this, I do want to recommend this place, it was a nice local restaurant to get some Asian dishes with a great waitstaff.
