Eel Cucumber Roll*

Sushi King has been around for a few decades. I've been coming here for more than 20 years, and this lovely place hasn't changed a bit. The owner and staff are always friendly and welcoming. Their sushi is the best in Howard County, everything is freshly made with the highest-quality ingredients. I've never had a disappointing meal here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're looking for cozy dining that feels like visiting a friend's home for a meal, this is the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Sushi King really impressed us with its sushi quality--it's easily one of the better sushi spots in Howard County. While it's on the slightly pricier side, you definitely get what you pay for. The fish was fresh, beautifully presented, and flavorful, and the sushi boat we ordered was both visually stunning and totally worth it in terms of taste and variety. If you're a sushi lover looking for quality without going full fine dining like Takumi (which is nearly double the price), Sushi King hits the sweet spot. The service was top-notch, with friendly, attentive staff who made us feel welcome from the start. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's also surprisingly kid-friendly, which can be hard to find at sushi restaurants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was casual yet polished--perfect for a family dinner or a nice night out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We'll definitely be back for another round of rolls (and maybe another sushi boat)!

Tuna Belly Scallion Roll, Yellowtail Scallions Roll, salmon roll...all with added cream cheese

So for my first review of March 2025! I will have to come back again when I'm in the area to give them the full monty...but for starters and a 4 stars they are doing really well in my book. Now I am a sushi connoisseur (I tell myself anyways) and love to try sushi in many different types of atmospheres. I've been to many places and how I test if I would come back is I like to order a reasonable easy common roll. So if they get that roll wrong I know it's not up to snuff... [[HIGHLIGHT]]So to start the restaurants is in a typical strip mall building that you would miss if you wasn't paying attention.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now I was coming here hungry then a mug so I'm so glad I gave them a chance. Don't judge a book for its cover right? When I walked in I was greeted quickly and decided since I was dining by myself I would sit at the bar so I can take in the entire restaurant. He gave me a menu and asked for my drink order. I just got water with lemon to start while I browsed over the menu. My server at first kind of rubbed me the wrong way because after I made my order she took the menu so quickly from me I didn't have time to even take a picture of it. I ordered my usual sushi rolls when I'm eating the first time at a sushi place...salmon and scallion add cream cheese, yellowtail and scallion add cream cheese, and decided to upgrade to tuna belly. My sushi came out quickly and was so good! I also ordered a Mai tai and a Riesling and I tell you both drinks were on point! If I'm in Columbia again I will definitely come back! Sushi was fresh and drinks on point! Go give them a try!

I loved my dinner at Sushi King! We were greeted within 5 minutes of sitting down. We ordered some classics (shrimp tempura, cucumber, and spider roll) and special (Samaria roll). They were all good and tasted TOP QUALITY/FRESH! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the ambiance, it's definitely a Mom and Pop shop and felt so warm/welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waitresses came around multiple times to ask us if we were okay. They seem to have a lot of regulars - so that's a very good sign. We also indulged in the fried banana with sesame ice cream. It's the perfect ending to the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also - I freaking love these napkins. Yall had to get a glimpse of the set up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It doesn't close till 10pm, which is nice considering other local restaurants close earlier. I would definitely revisit again and recommend for you bring someone in try!

I LOVE Sushi King! The owners are always there and treats all of us like family. I don't know if the mom of the owner works there but sometimes she'll come sit with us and we'll just talk and catch up haha. We always get such a warm and great greeting upon arrival. They seem so genuinely happy to see us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance of the facility is amazing chill and relaxed and they have a special Japanese room you can eat in but you have to order at least $150 worth of food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's especially nice for a special occasion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I always order the Baltimore, Holiday, Snow White, and dynamite roll with UME wine. I highly recommend this sushi spot! I love sushi king so much!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Outstanding sushi, service, and ambiance here, in a very nondescript little business park in Columbia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Vegetarian sushi
Victoria S.

Solid and reliable Japanese restaurant with reasonable prices. Service was very polite and efficient. We shared a roll combination entree (tekka, Alaskan and California rolls) and a vegetarian sushi plate. Both came with salad, which was very fresh with a ginger miso dressing. The sushi rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tekka (tuna) and salmon (in the Alaskan roll) was also fresh. The vegetarian sushi had the usual kanpyo, cucumber and avocado selections, but also had inari (tofu skin), seaweed and avocado. Appreciated that it has vegetarian sushi with varied flavors and vegetable items (not all Japanese restaurants offer it).

Solid meal, friendly service, with a few nitpicks. details: We went on a pretty quiet Monday afternoon to grab a sushi (and more) dinner. There were hardly any people for context. There's a bar (by the sushi making station), tables, and booths to sit. Plenty of seating. The ambiance is kind of modern with familiar touches of an Asian/Japanese dining experience. There's TVs everywhere, which I assume would be playing sports/news (but there weren't any games happening at that time). That's where my nitpick actually is. I don't think they monitor this very closely and so there were a few explicit songs and videos playing at the time we were there. It wasn't anything hardcore or anything, but something to be cognizant about if you're going with little ones. The food was solid. Things did take a little longer than what I expected considering how quiet the place was when we were there. However, things did taste fresh and made to order, so I'm guessing/assuming the time went to make things fresh which is definitely nice. All the food we ordered was well balanced with flavor and cooked well. The sushi menu felt a bit more on the Americanized side for me. e.g. there's lots of rolls with cream cheese and mayo type of sauces. But, what we did order was very tasty. Positive experience all around and I would recommend checking out if you're in the area and in the mood for some Japanese cuisine.

The chef even made us a baked salmon dish on the house, which was delish! However, it seemed like the rice my sushi was made with was part of an older batch or undercooked? It was kind of hard. My husband's rice had a better texture, more what you expect with sushi. But I could tell the fish was very fresh and so were the rest of the ingredients besides my rice. I think it was not the norm & definitely would give them another chance!

I have been to many sushi restaurants that are high end and more affordable, but Oya is the best of both worlds. The quality and creativity in each dish is far out of the league of what you pay. The restaurant is on the smaller end, but the lighting, decor, and cleanliness is absolutely stellar! What I love is that the interior compliments the fresh and clean taste of the fish. Attention to detail in how everything is presented and plated shows the amount of care that the chef has for their customers. Additionally, they do not hold back on the things that matter. I chose to eat various dishes of fish, which require a lot of ginger to cleanse my palette after each fish, and Oya did not hold back. Where many other sushi restaurants lack, Oya dominates at. Service was absolutely amazing as well. The chefs were extremely respectful greeting you and the server was ready for whatever need you may have. More than supporting big chains that profit off of you by overstuffing you with a lot of rice and cheap fishy fish, I would HIGHLY recommend supporting a small business. Oya Sushi is one of the handful of restaurants that I wish I could exceed five stars. Everything about this place exceeded all expectations and I could not recommend this place more than any other sushi restaurant I have been to. It is a different type of love when you want to go around to all your friends, family, and co-workers to one day take them to a restaurant. Oya is a MUST eat when in Maryland.
