I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the customer service I received on May 22, 2026, around 12:45 PM. My party consisted of 11 guests, and unfortunately the service provided by the young woman assigned to our table was extremely unprofessional. Throughout our visit, she appeared overwhelmed and was noticeably disrespectful in her interactions with our group. Her attitude made the dining experience uncomfortable and unpleasant. While I understand that busy shifts can be stressful, customers should still be treated with courtesy and professionalism. A table of our size should not have been made to feel like an inconvenience. We expected respectful service and left very disappointed by the experience. I hope this matter is addressed appropriately to prevent future customers from having a similar experience. We have tried every Sushi King in the area. First of all, the prices on the website are not up to date. Dinner is not 18.99, it is 24.99. Also, they say that the give 10% military discount but this location DOES NOT honor it. In fact, they treat you as if you are stealing. Each time the staff brought out our order, it was wrong. Not only that, the food was not nearly as good as other locations. We have much better sushi in the area. The soup was cold, it was late and not even good. Sushi itself, it is better at our local Kroger. When we were leaving, I took the check to the front desk to ask about the military discount and the owner or manager followed us (family of 4) and treated us as if we were going to walk out and not pay. My first clue should have been that I could smell the Koi pond when I walked in. The service was slow and what I think was a junior server was arrogant, rude and slow. The food was, at best, mediocre. The men's room had really low water pressure and no paper towels. Save your money and get some good sushi at Volcano Sushi 5 minutes away. I almost didn't try it because of the bad reviews but they were correct. There's a limit on how much you can order at one time. The quality of the sushi was OK but the service extremely slow. Waitress was friendly but mixed up the order and only got two salmon niguri instead of 6. Most of the menu is shrimp tempura and spicy salmon or spicy tuna not much in the way of actual sushi. My husband and I usually enjoy coming here, but this last experience was really disappointing. We arrived around 8:40 PM, knowing the restaurant normally closes at 9:30 PM, only to be told they were closing early due to having a "slow day." I completely understand that slow days happen, but closing early for that reason felt unfair especially since we made the effort to come before the posted closing time. My husband gets off work late, and this was supposed to be a nice dinner for us, but we weren't even given the chance to order. We come here often and already know exactly what we like, so it would've been a quick and easy visit. It was just frustrating to be turned away when we planned around their normal hours. So I'd gone to the Norva not to long ago and didn't know there was a Sushi King in this area of Norfolk. Whelp today I was there for a family members bday celebration and I absolutely loved it. The ambiance is very calming, elegant and overall beautiful. The food was great and I was stuffed. Our waitress was good as well for a nice size party. There was 9 of us today. I left satisfied and I'd definitely return. We were also allowed to reserve our table the day before and that aided in availability for a larger group of people. The tiny bit of food I managed to get was good, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. No ginger, no wasabi--just missing basics. I came in after the illumination parade with two friends. The place wasn't even busy, yet after sitting there for two hours, we were served two plates. Two. For an all-you-can-eat restaurant, that's ridiculous. I knew portions would be small--fine. That's normal for this place. What I did not expect was to show up a little after 8 p.m., stay until 10:30 p.m., and be told the kitchen was closed while we were still waiting for food we had already ordered. And for $25 per person? Absolutely not. We asked to speak with the manager, and he refused to come out. Instead, he knocked a measly five dollars off the bill--when we didn't even get a fraction of what we paid for. I used to enjoy coming here. After this mess? Never again. Love the small portions! I'm not being sarcastic. Anytime I do AYCE, I want to try as many variations as possible, so I really appreciate the small portions. Ironically, as a sushi buffet, the sushi rolls were my least favorite. It wasn't bad, just tasted like what you'd get at a grocery, but I did enjoy the raw black pepper tuna and tuna martini. We went on a Saturday lunch, it wasn't packed, food came quickly, staff were super friendly. For the price we paid for, definitely worth it! The hibachis were our favorite. Since the pandemic started, AYCE sushi was the food that we were craving the most. AYCE sushi is not something you can order to go. We've been to Sushi King 5 years ago and we never really come back because for as there are better AYCE sushi restaurants in the area (espceially at Chesapeake). However during the phase 2 of the covid reopening, Sushi King is the only restaurant that is open for dine in (honestly I'm scared of the virus, but we haven't had AYCE sushi for 3 months, it was time). The first thing I was that they were really not very strict with covid safety precautions. Their waiting area was small and there were like 12 people waiting and sitting on the bench. I don't see anyone sanitizing. I also noticed that they do not have disposable menus. I know it's our fault for not staying home when I am scared of the virus, but this is such a huge turn off for me. The meal was good. We enjoyed our sushis and rolls. I just wished they have more deep fried sushi rolls on their menu. I wasn't a fan of their Las Vegas rolls, but the spider roll, volcano roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. However I noticed that their spider roll looked nothing like the picture on their menu. The staff was friendly and helpful. They answered my questions and offered some recommendations. I don't know if we'll still be back. Sushi King is still our least favorite place of all the AYCE sushi restaurants in town. read more

It's not what it used to be. I found the Granby Street location to be the best in Hampton Roads. I recently visited and was shocked at the difference in atmosphere and food experience. On a weekday around lunchtime we were 1 of four other tables present. FIVE tables total at lunchtime. The manager sat us, served us, bused us and checked us out. The rolls were slow to come out and the hibachi plates were barely tapas portions. It's like they've given up but the doors are still open for business. Consequently, she ordered chicken fried rice, assuming it would cost $12.50, along with some crab rangoon and a boba drink. Imagine her shock when the bill arrived, totaling $46 instead of the expected $20. Upon questioning the discrepancy, the waitress simply dismissed it with a flimsy excuse: "Oh, I must have explained it poorly." The waiter came by to take our order and if I had know it'd be a challenge to get their attention again, I would've ordered the entire menu on the first try. Literally, I tried to flag down the waiter on multiple occasions and he just looked at me and walked away. We finally got someone's attention and we're able to order. The sushi was very, unique. The spicy ahi/tuna was very clumpy in the roll. Tells me that it was possibly frozen for a bit and not as fresh as I would've thought. I mean, $15 for all you can eat. This Sushi King is my least favorite and will never return. I need to stay away from SK's all together. Came in on a Sunday with a Groupon. Everything from presentation to food was unappealing. The rolls were all rice with barely any fish. The rice had no flavor. The plates were sloppily put together. There were little bits of fish like pieces called scallops in their scallop teriyaki dish. Las Vegas roll was all rice & a little cream cheese deep fried. Service was not bad. Although, I felt rushed in the beginning. The store-front location is a prime spot and has so much potential. Inside is gorgeous and from my recollection, the previous owners had the interior set up. This business is doing absolutely nothing for the space. Not sure how this restaurant will sustain with their less than mediocre product. I was very disappointed that my hard-earned money($18.95pp!!!) and caloric intake were completely wasted on a gorgeous sunny Sunday. And I don't eat out often! Gross is the only word that comes to mind. This was the worst meal I've had in a long time. No skill, art, care, nothing was executed with regard to food preparation. Two stars is because soup was good and service was ok. I say find out what other more poplar Sushi King locations are doing, learn from them, get some standards & consistency.
