Very busy and loud which is great, let's me know it's a popular place so it must be good right? Service wasn't terrible but it wasn't great, our drinks came out fast and our food did too big the waitress forgot some things at it was a bit difficult to flag her down I got the California tempura roll and I didn't expect it to be served hot but it was so it had a different taste compared to cold sushi. It was drenched in sauce which I liked to an extent but in the end made the tempura soggy. I was excited to order the chicken fried rice but was hit with disappointment because it tasted bland. Now for the food, the food was AMAZING!! Maybe it was partly the hunger but after we got some food in, everything still tasted AMAZING. We ordered the following: calamari(2x), garlic edamame, Star Wars roll, salmon skin roll, mussels appetizer, sushi burrito, lunch sashimi bento with California roll and crunchy roll. My favorites were the Star Wars roll and the mussels. The salmon skin roll had great flavor, not overly fishy and well prepared. Sushi burrito was good too. The salmon they used was so fresh. I am very impressed with the food and service here. They offer 50% off on certain items. Our bill was surprising affordable, came out to around $75. I was expecting it to be more expensive that what it came out to. Happy to see they have Sushi Kuchi here in SD and I'm hoping it's as good too. I highly recommend it. The server was unfriendly and seemed inconvenienced when we asked for a second menu. There was a birthday there and they dimmed the lights and made a production of someone's bday, which was cool, but otherwise, there is nothing that would bring me back. I love sushi! With how pricey it can be, you can't help but be picky as to where you go. That being said, I'm happy I was introduced to Sushi Kuchi as it may very well be one of my go-to spots in North County. Restaurant is located in a fairly large shopping complex so parking shouldn't be an issue. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we entered and it didn't take long for us to be seated. Restaurant itself is large with plenty of seating. We went on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too busy. Waitress was friendly and attentive. I felt the food did take a little longer than I'm used to at other places but I figured it was due to me ordering a baked roll. Onto the food. Biggest highlight for me was that they offer a 50% off menu with a large selection to pick from. From past experience, 50% off usually means subpar sushi....but not here! I ordered some nigiri and the fish just melted in your mouth. The pieces of fish was actually pretty large as well but still not too thick. In addition to this, I also ordered the California Beach Roll ($13 - Not Half Off). Your usual crab, avocado & cucumber on the inside but topped with delicious baked scallop, smelt egg and some spicy mayo. There aren't too many sushi places that won't break the bank and still serve a quality meal but this place definitely does that. The wife suggested Sushi Kuchi since we were nearby Saturday night, and we thought why not? First off, the food was pretty good (in my opinion. My wife didn't not like any of the rolls we got) The edamame in the Orange/garlic sauce was fantastic. Rolls were good, wasn't the best sushi I've ever had but not the worst. The environment is really cool. My issue was with the service. We ordered the edamame you know, as an appetizer, which totally defeated the purpose of getting 2/3 of our rolls before getting the edamame. Poor execution on that. Many were listed in my return search and I saw 50% off and wanted to see what that was about. They have this menu that had classic rolls that are 50% off. The menu has a nice selection. I picked The Philadelphia roll my favorite of all time, the Vegas roll and the playboy roll. The playboy roll was delish. The Vegas was ok. It's a fried roll and it has salmon on the inside. I didn't think about it being fried and I don't like my salmon cooked as such on sushi roll. Only smoked or raw. The prices were good as well. I had those three rolls and a large Sapporo beer for about $26 total. I sat at the sushi bar and like the other reviews, the gentlemen said "see you tomorrow" when I left. Ordered 5 rolls: the bad boy, the house roll, hot night roll, sensual pleasure roll and the lips special roll (or something with lips in the title!) we also ordered the kids chicken teriyaki rice bowl. Taste & quality were just subpar for us. We eat a lot of sushi back home, and where the quality of fresh fish is higher here, the overall taste was bland. No roll really stood out to us sadly. The rolls weren't tasteful and really all dive blended together. Out of the five, the one we liked the most was the sensual pleasure. My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for years. The food is good...not exceptional... but we have always appreciated the service the ladies have provided. Today, we went in for a late lunch. There was someone in the restaurant who was having a conversation, loudly, with their cell phone on speaker. We asked MacKensie, a young server, if she would ask them to talk off of speaker or turn it down. She said they were employees on their break. We weren't concerned with who it was...it was loud and we just wanted to enjoy our $200 dinner for two In peace. MacKensie started laughing and was COMPLETELY AND RUDELY defending her coworkers. Then, one of the other teenagers that works there, Trinity, decided that she wanted to step in and defend her coworkers. These two teenagers began laughing, running to the back, staring us down...just acting like complete morons. Our waitress started hearing and she told them to stop but of course, these children just kept up their rude party. All I can say is that Kuchi must be pretty desperate for employees to keep these kids on. I've been to a lot of restaurants but NEVER have I been treated so rudely with an apparently green light from management to do so. We won't be back. One last note...we are such regular customers that I was wearing a Kuchi sweatshirt Kuchi gave me for Christmas last year. Sad we won't be going back...long history there. read more

We waited over 20 minutes for water and had to ask multiple times for our drinks to be brought to us. I actually watched them clear tables before serving us, and we came at 2 PM on a Saturday; there was no one waiting! The basics seem to escape these people, so even though the sushi was okay, I don't recommend it unless you enjoy a frustrating dining experience. read more

Covid-19 grade: A++ Dedicated staff at the door, takes everyone's temperature with a free standing hands-less machine. She also make sure people follow the marks on the floor for takeout. Tables are more than 6ft, and no sushi bar so you don't cough on someones roll waiting to be picked up. These guys are on it! Poor door staff, every prick that walked in pointed out empty tables as she quoted a 20 min wait. Hey dumb ass those are the 6ft breaks between tables! Pros: Great consistent large rolls, dine in discount rolls. All high quality sushi and they have actual fresh wasabi, if you've never had it vs the reg (green horseradish) you don't know what you're missing.
