Photos don't do this place justice. Their food is top-notch, fresh and not over-sauced, with the delicate flavors of the ingredients coming through. We have liked everything we have tried on their menu and are regulars here. The staff are super professional and pleasant and clearly love what they do! They are happy to modify things per our requests too. The ambiance is relaxed, family-friendly and right-sized. We look forward to many more lunches here.

I'm LA born and bred. Northern California has been traditionally saved for time off and visiting. Lately, I've found myself working up here thus looking for lunch. Sushi Kuu came up as a nearby spot. I decided on Niku Don. Thinly sliced beef bowl. It hit the spot. The restaurant is nice and the host/server was great. Come here for a delicious lunch. I will be back for some sushi soon.

Sushi Kuu is great! Really good sushi and tempura. The service is always quick and attentive. Very simple decor with a relaxed vibe. Definitely worth it if you're in Belmont and don't know where to go. Try the hamachi kama! It takes a little longer but it's well worth it!

I was initially concerned with some of the comments made due to the recent ownership change. I still enjoyed their food and didn't notice the change as they retained the same sushi chef. I especially enjoyed the scallops roll and the sushi seemed fresh. Lastly, love the convenience of online order.

Monkfish liver 8/10 - I love a good monkfish liver and the liver itself was sooooo creamy and decadent! I personally felt that the marinade used was slightly on the sweeter side, not as packed full of umami as I would have liked! Beef tongue 9/10 - a standard, well cooked, well seasoned beef tongue, but the sauce they they served with it made it exceptional!! Deluxe Chirashi 8.5/10 - this is a HUGE amount of food, definitely worth the price tag! The cuts of fish are incredibly thick and you can tell that their fish is fresh! However, some of the cuts of fish weren't prepared very well, and were falling apart, becoming stringy. The seasoned rice under the fish might have been my favorite part - perfectly seasoned and topped with a small amount of garlic furikake!! I did have an issue with the ikura & tamago - they were slightly too sweet for my tastes. They also advertise this as coming with fresh wasabi - the amount of wasabi they actually provide is tiny, definitely not enough for the amount of fish served. Overall, I will say that I think this place has great quality of fish and beautiful presentation, but is better for people who have a sweeter palate! Their tamago, ikura, and even their soy sauce is on the sweeter side, so if you have a salty, savory palate like me you might be a little thrown off!

No "excuse me" just a direct "are you recording?" And without giving my friend a chance to explain that he wasn't (he is just a heavy Pokémon Goer), the server went on "no recording is allowed. You can't do that" Blah blah. There are clearly better and more professional ways to handle this. And assuming customers at fault is not. We ordered two hot plates and two Kaisen don at $60 each. Hot plates are good. Kaisen don is very sad. That's the least fresh toro and uni I have ever had. My friend is not used to complaining, but I decided not to swallow it. After some back and forth, they offered to replace the toro and uni. Although it's an okay gesture, my friend was not offered the replacement-- not even asking, while we ordered the same set. The replacement didn't come with the average freshness I have experienced, but better than the original. Then we started to look at google reviews, only to find out that the ikura included in the don was completely missing. It was offered after we complained. But again, no apologies. For an expensive item with clear description of the content in the menu, I don't know if it's a mistake or not. Btw, our Kaisen don doesn't look like their official picture at all.

The restaurant was packed on a Thursday night but I was able to walk in at the bar. I got the ankimo pate from the seasonal menu and the wagyu steak and garlic rice. While waiting for my food I observed a sign of authenticity: a table of 8 Japanese businessmen, so I was pretty excited to get my food. I usually looooove ankimo and I didn't really think too much about how the mascarpone would be. I think it's too heavy/creamy and lost the liver-ness of ankimo which I really like. I understand a lot of people don't though so, different strokes for different people. Not a big fan of the mixture, and there was also water or something on the bread that made it soggy. However, the pickled onions and grapes were really good especially with the wagyu steak and garlic rice. At first glance the image of the wagyu steak is not that impressive, as it was in real life as well...BUT as I took my first bite I was taken back to the underground Kobe beef bowl hole in the wall restaurant. The beef is cut into really big pieces so in this picture it doesn't look like a lot but it was a good ratio. The rice is soft and fluffy and flavorful. Worth getting the dashi. I will definitely be back!!
