Sushi Kuu has a nice variety of dishes. Among them, they offer 2- and 3-item bento boxes with a good selection of options. I appreciate that they don't put limitations by having customers choose one item from one column and another item from another column. You can choose anything on their list. Sushi Kuu was the star find of the pandemic for me. I crave it after a hike, if I'm not feeling well or when I'm too busy during the workday. I normally get take-out since it's just a 5-min walk but have dined in for my birthday twice. G the manager is always so friendly and thoughtful. I was initially concerned with some of the comments made due to the recent ownership change. I still enjoyed their food and didn't notice the change as they retained the same sushi chef. I would say that this place is cozy and fine with a smaller place inside without crowded atmosphere which is perfect for small group of people or just you and your family . Got a combo here of teriyaki salmon and chicken katsu. the Portions were kind of small which was my main complaint but the food itself was good. Spicy tuna roll was decent. Agedashi Tofu was alright. The wait time for the foods are not bad either. The restaurant is clean. The most important thing is that make me want to go there because of the waiter service. We were here for the first time, although this is the closest sushi restaurant to our house. The Yelp grades were confusing. We were pleasantly surprised, all the dishes turned out to be very tasty. The service is very fast and of high quality despite the fact that there were many orders. The guys are doing their job perfectly. Special thanks to Helen, who served us! During the pandemic ordered takeout from here many times as they offer dinner bento boxes for around $20 for 3 items. They have their own website to order online for pickup (they do not deliver). Their food is pretty good and consistent quality, usual choices I select are katsu, saba shioyaki, California roll, spicy tuna roll, mix tempura, or beef short ribs. They happened to run out of Sapporo beer after I ordered, and our waitress kindly accommodated me with an additional glass of Asahi on the house! The 3-combination plate was not only delicious but the perfect amount of food and variety. Provided with house salad & miso soup beforehand too. I've been going to Sushi Kuu for years now and I've continued going even after the management change. At this point in time, I've tried almost everything on their menu at least once. To start, the wait staff here is phenomenal. They go above and beyond when it comes to making sure you are well-taken care of here. They know what to recommend you, and are always communicative with what's on the menu and what they recommend. But the food here? It's phenomenal. What's kept me coming back all these years is the sushi and the wonderful rolls the head sushi chef can think up. A small bit of history: my family and I have followed the sushi chef here since he worked at another nearby Japanese restaurant. His food was so good, that wherever he went, we'd follow him and eat whatever he served us. Trust me, it's that good. If you're looking for recommendations, my personal favorites are the Volcano roll, for the spiciness and presentation, and their Toro roll, because I love tuna and salmon belly. If you aren't into fish or sushi, this place can whip up some damn good fried rice, and their beef teriyaki is also amazing. If you don't mind some fish ingredients, their seafood fried rice is also phenomenal and no where else does that kind of dish. To top it all off, I love their green tea ice cream. For context, I don't like green tea ice cream in general. Most places go too heavy on the green tea and it tastes like mushy chalk. Sushi Kuu's green tea ice cream is light, refreshing, and has a delicate balance of flavors to it. It's a great way to end a dinner here. So give this place a shot! I recently ordered togo sushi from Sushi Kuu and was pleasantly surprised how nice the overall experience was and the quality and portion size of the items. I recommend them for their fast and efficient to go process and the food is fresh, tasty, with nice portion size. When you call in they typically tell you the sushi will be ready in about 25-30 minutes for pick up. Try calling resturant directly and picking up food yourself- that why the restaurant doesn't have to pay fees to other middlemen companies. read more

Love the Bento Box here! There's a wide variety of offerings from which to make your combination of two or three main dishes. Included is miso soup which is not too salty and a salad of iceberg lettuce and carrots which is not overdressed. The service is great. The sushi is expensive, the portions are small, and the flavors and quality are nothing special. I have only had the food to-go so I can't speak on the dining experience. I have tried the spicy scallops roll and the tuna roll. Both were small and honestly boring, not much fish so not much flavor. My boyfriend got the sashimi and he did not like it. He said they left too much skin and fat on the fish and it wasn't appetizing. It wasn't absolutely terrible, just not at all worth it to us. To be fair, the prices are comparable for the area, but that doesn't say much. In my opinion, sushi is outrageously expensive in the SF Bay Area. Granted, I'm from NYC where you can find many fantastic sushi spots where regular rolls are about $3-5 and special rolls can range from $8-15, and they are loaded with fish and flavor. I can't find anything like that around here, and can't justify paying nearly $20 with tax and tip for a single special roll. In the meantime, I will continue going to Go Fish in Redwood City to satisfy my cravings with a Poke bowl. read more

This is one of the best sushi places in the area! I had a chicken teriyaki bento box with tempura and a side order of a spicy tuna roll. My girlfriend ordered the Mexican Desert roll and a California roll. All of the above was fantastic! Not too much sauce on the rolls, the rice was just right, and my soup/salad/chicken/tempura were excellent. I've tried at least a dozen sushi places in the Belmont / San Carlos area, and I don't think there's a better one right now for some solid rolls and bentos. read more

Since ownership changed in January 2020, this place has gone downhill. The new owners are making terrible decisions for their menu options that are alienating regular customers: 1) First, they would not allow you to choose your sashimi as part of your dinner bento box like they use to allow. 2) Then a month later, they remove sashimi as an option altogether for your dinner bento box. 3) And finally, they discontinued their customer service rewards program. We were regulars at this place, sometimes eating here 2-3 times a week, but now, no more. This was the last straw tonight when they removed the sashimi option. Also, the servers tend to get your orders wrong. Like tonight, when I asked for a spicy tuna roll with miso salmon as my two-entree items. What was served was my miso salmon with a teriyaki salmon. Hello? During another time a few weeks prior, the server was a disaster and couldn't get any of our orders correct. Too bad Sushi Kuu, you managed to lose some very loyal customers who used to spend upwards of over $1,500 a year at your restaurant. Sayonara! read more
