It was both gorgeous and delicious!!! Nestled in an Avondale strip mall, this cozy little Japanese place serves up a deep menu of over 60 different sushi rolls, five different kinds of ramen, as well as staple Japanese and Korean entrees like Teriyaki, Bulgogi, and Katsu bowls. The restaurant is pristine: everything in the front of the house was clean and the decor was a balance of both modern and traditional Japanese. Their lunch rush was steady; the dining room was well occupied shortly after opening. And the service was attentive and genuine! This is, hands down, one of the best sushi spots in the area! Unfortunately, I have to change my review. We've been coming here since Sushi Love first opened, and in the beginning this place was on top of things, the servers were friendly and attentive, and while the kitchen could be a little slow at times, it was never anywhere near as bad as what we experienced today. Here's the timeline from when we arrived to when we finally received everything: 12:10 - Seated 12:20 - Finally able to order drinks and food 12:27 - Received my single sushi roll 12:54 - Guest received his entree 1:04 - Just received our gyoza appetizer It took over 10 minutes after being seated before the waitress even got us water. I was trying to look up other restaurants in the area because we were about to leave. What made this even more confusing was that it was a Sunday right after opening, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Because the appetizer took so long, I ended up splitting my single sushi roll with my guest so he wouldn't have to sit there hungry while waiting on his food. Even then, it still took over 30 minutes for his entree to arrive, which was ridiculous considering it was just one dish. The most frustrating part was waiting nearly 45 minutes for a single appetizer order of gyoza. We were honestly close to leaving before it ever arrived, and I would have left still hungry. If the appetizer had come out in a reasonable amount of time, I could have actually enjoyed the roll I came there for in its entirety instead of having to split it just so we could get by while waiting. The pacing of the food also made no sense. Appetizers should come out before entrees, not after everything else. Instead, one person was eating while the other sat there waiting, which made the entire experience awkward and frustrating. If the waitress paced things correctly it would have made a huge difference and likely helped prevent the kitchen from getting backed up. On top of that our waitress never apologized for the delays or acknowledged the excessive wait times, not even after we waited over 10 minutes just to get water. She did repeatedly asked if we "needed anything else" while we were still waiting on food. Like, yes, we needed the food we already ordered? Overall, the experience felt extremely disorganized and uncaring from both the service staff and the kitchen. What's especially disappointing is that this wasn't our first bad experience here. This is now the second visit in a row where we've dealt with extremely slow service and a noticeable lack of attentiveness (last time we were there they forgot some food, not only ours but also a table next to us). This place used to be good, which makes the decline even more frustrating, the kitchen needs an overhaul or something. Sushi is good and not as slow but ordering anything from the kitchen or getting drinks is like pulling teeth to get. Sushi Love isn't a huge restaurant, so it's hard to understand how things have become this disorganized. We gave the restaurant another chance hoping things would improve, but this was by far the worst experience we've had here. read more

Cute little spot for sushi! The hand rolls we ordered were so fresh and yummy I could've eaten 5 of those! The crab puffs are a nice little appetizer to get. Sushi love has been our go to sushi spot for the last 2 years. Moving here from the west coast we appreciate quality sushi, and they have always been on par. But service quality has gone down so much. The wait staff is rude. They treat you like you're bothering them. Last time we were in we waited over 15 minutes to be greeted and it wasn't busy. They let someone have their dogs on the patio and the tiny dogs ran about inside when the door opened, dog owner and wait staff issue (they could of said something). We recently called in at 8:31 and asked to order take out and she so rudely said they can't and kitchen was closed and hung up on me!? I get your kitchen closed, but be nice about it!? We did order the Elijah blue roll + bulgolgi, and the baked lobster roll, which were on the restaurant week menu. The appetizers were so great. If you come here try the shrimp shumai, it had such a nice toasty flavor. They were so plump, and just terrific. The gyoza were good, it's hard to disappoint with them. The Elijah blue roll, dysart roll, and baked lobster roll had so much flavor, and a little bit of kick. The bulgolgi had great flavor and paired well with the sides. Even the rice tasted very good. I'm bumping them back up to five stars after a string of really great experiences. The bottom line is that they have the absolute best nigiri and sashimi in the area. No, they don't cut them as generously as Richard used to, but the quality of their food is still just as good. And one random thing really stood out at our most recent visit- the quality of their ginger. The girls and I decided that we wanted sushi for dinner so we chose this place that was midpoint for everybody. This was everyone's first time trying this location and while the sushi was good, we all agreed we probably wouldn't come here again. For starters when we arrived, we were sat down, and our appetizers started coming in but then we were asked to move because they had a reservation that needed sitting. We were confused because there were two other tables that could be put together elsewhere, but we moved anyway without asking why or anything. Then, because of the move, the waitresses were confused as to where the food was going, and so we were left without food for quite a while until we asked someone and they realized that there was some confusion given we had been moved tables. Additionally, nobody ever checked in on us and we weren't given/asked if we wanted any drink refills. I really miss the Seattle teriyaki from back home. This place was more for sushi lovers (like my nephew whose bday we were celebrating) but since I don't do raw fish, I ordered the Chicken teriyaki. Which was a bit disappointing. It was made with very thin (and dry) chicken breasts. Teriyaki chicken should be made with thighs. Yes it's more fatty but it's also where all the flavor is. And never dry. It was served with a massive helping of steamed rice on a bed of slaw that were both tasty but the meat itself was just not it. I had it today and it was : first of all, it more warm than cold, the color off, and the flavor was bland. The seared ahi roll same the fish tasted old and there was not much sear to the entire roll. Our family of 9 enjoyed our experience here. The manager was super nice along with our waiter. The place was easy to move around in and had decent lighting. I hate restaurants that are dimly lit so I appreciate that I can actually see my food here (which looked as great as they tasted).The bathrooms were also clean and well-stocked. I've been a regular customer of Sushi Love since it opened a few years ago, but a visit a couple days ago left me disappointed and disrespected. Therefore, I won't be returning. At the end of our meal, I paid using a portable kiosk and voluntarily added a 25% tip. After receiving the printed receipt, I noticed an additional 20% "large party surcharge" had already been applied. Our party consisted of three people, and this charge was not verbally explained, clearly disclosed on the kiosk, or made obvious at the time of payment. When I asked about it, I was told that any bill over $100 receives automatic gratuity. The manager explained this was a newer policy and did remove the extra charge. However, when I politely suggested that tables be informed of this policy ahead of time to avoid confusion or double tipping, the waitress, Kaya, responded in a way that felt dismissive and placed the responsibility solely on the customer to catch it. She was very unprofessional and disrespectful toward me and my family... I understand policies change, but clear communication is important--especially when it involves automatic charges. I hope this feedback helps future guests avoid confusion by carefully reviewing their receipt before paying. It's a cute little spot that's nearby for me. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi but it's not the worst either. I've had better on this side of town but I was happy to try it out. Would be nice if they had happy hour specials and a drink menu. Although, when I asked the server she did say a drink menu is coming. I ordered the monkey brains and that was delicious. Then I ordered the baked lobster tail roll which was just ok. It's not lobster it's langostino. I think it would've been better fried so I probably should've gotten the dynamite lobster roll. My friend got the sunset roll and it was delicious and her husband got the dragon roll and that was delicious too. My son and I both have an affinity for sushi, and he has expressed a desire to take me to Sushi Love so I can try their food. I can now understand why because everything was delightful!
