Nestled in an Avondale strip mall, this cozy little Japanese place serves up a deep menu of over 60 different sushi rolls, five different kinds of ramen, as well as staple Japanese and Korean entrees like Teriyaki, Bulgogi, and Katsu bowls. The restaurant is pristine: everything in the front of the house was clean and the decor was a balance of both modern and traditional Japanese. Their lunch rush was steady; the dining room was well occupied shortly after opening. And the service was attentive and genuine! This is, hands down, one of the best sushi spots in the area! Unfortunately, I have to change my review. We've been coming here since Sushi Love first opened, and in the beginning this place was on top of things, the servers were friendly and attentive, and while the kitchen could be a little slow at times, it was never anywhere near as bad as what we experienced today. Here's the timeline from when we arrived to when we finally received everything: 12:10 - Seated 12:20 - Finally able to order drinks and food 12:27 - Received my single sushi roll 12:54 - Guest received his entree 1:04 - Just received our gyoza appetizer It took over 10 minutes after being seated before the waitress even got us water. I was trying to look up other restaurants in the area because we were about to leave. What made this even more confusing was that it was a Sunday right after opening, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Because the appetizer took so long, I ended up splitting my single sushi roll with my guest so he wouldn't have to sit there hungry while waiting on his food. Even then, it still took over 30 minutes for his entree to arrive, which was ridiculous considering it was just one dish. The most frustrating part was waiting nearly 45 minutes for a single appetizer order of gyoza. We were honestly close to leaving before it ever arrived, and I would have left still hungry. If the appetizer had come out in a reasonable amount of time, I could have actually enjoyed the roll I came there for in its entirety instead of having to split it just so we could get by while waiting. The pacing of the food also made no sense. Appetizers should come out before entrees, not after everything else. Instead, one person was eating while the other sat there waiting, which made the entire experience awkward and frustrating. If the waitress paced things correctly it would have made a huge difference and likely helped prevent the kitchen from getting backed up. On top of that our waitress never apologized for the delays or acknowledged the excessive wait times, not even after we waited over 10 minutes just to get water. She did repeatedly asked if we "needed anything else" while we were still waiting on food. Like, yes, we needed the food we already ordered? Overall, the experience felt extremely disorganized and uncaring from both the service staff and the kitchen. What's especially disappointing is that this wasn't our first bad experience here. This is now the second visit in a row where we've dealt with extremely slow service and a noticeable lack of attentiveness (last time we were there they forgot some food, not only ours but also a table next to us). This place used to be good, which makes the decline even more frustrating, the kitchen needs an overhaul or something. Sushi is good and not as slow but ordering anything from the kitchen or getting drinks is like pulling teeth to get. Sushi Love isn't a huge restaurant, so it's hard to understand how things have become this disorganized. We gave the restaurant another chance hoping things would improve, but this was by far the worst experience we've had here. read more

Cute little spot for sushi! The hand rolls we ordered were so fresh and yummy I could've eaten 5 of those! The crab puffs are a nice little appetizer to get. We also had two other rolls but I didn't get a photo of them. Everything was so good and our waitress was so sweet! I'm bumping them back up to five stars after a string of really great experiences. The bottom line is that they have the absolute best nigiri and sashimi in the area. No, they don't cut them as generously as Richard used to, but the quality of their food is still just as good. And one random thing really stood out at our most recent visit- the quality of their ginger. We did order the Elijah blue roll + bulgolgi, and the baked lobster roll, which were on the restaurant week menu. The appetizers were so great. If you come here try the shrimp shumai, it had such a nice toasty flavor. They were so plump, and just terrific. The gyoza were good, it's hard to disappoint with them. The Elijah blue roll, dysart roll, and baked lobster roll had so much flavor, and a little bit of kick. The bulgolgi had great flavor and paired well with the sides. Even the rice tasted very good. The side salad and miso soup were terrific. Everything tasted phenomenal. Service was great and very attentive. It's a very unassuming sushi place, being in a shopping plaza. I had it today and it was : first of all, it more warm than cold, the color off, and the flavor was bland. The seared ahi roll same the fish tasted old and there was not much sear to the entire roll. The girls and I decided that we wanted sushi for dinner so we chose this place that was midpoint for everybody. This was everyone's first time trying this location and while the sushi was good, we all agreed we probably wouldn't come here again. For starters when we arrived, we were sat down, and our appetizers started coming in but then we were asked to move because they had a reservation that needed sitting. We were confused because there were two other tables that could be put together elsewhere, but we moved anyway without asking why or anything. Then, because of the move, the waitresses were confused as to where the food was going, and so we were left without food for quite a while until we asked someone and they realized that there was some confusion given we had been moved tables. Additionally, nobody ever checked in on us and we weren't given/asked if we wanted any drink refills. Which was a bit disappointing. It was made with very thin (and dry) chicken breasts. Teriyaki chicken should be made with thighs. Yes it's more fatty but it's also where all the flavor is. And never dry. It was served with a massive helping of steamed rice on a bed of slaw that were both tasty but the meat itself was just not it. Barely any sauce (server brought more when I asked) but I should have chosen the beef or salmon which were the same cost. I decided to order off the Uber eats app, I ordered tears of the Sun, which is supposed to be a jalapeño popper like appetizer that is not what I received. I received what the person at the restaurant named. I've been a regular customer of Sushi Love since it opened a few years ago, but a visit a couple days ago left me disappointed and disrespected. Therefore, I won't be returning. At the end of our meal, I paid using a portable kiosk and voluntarily added a 25% tip. After receiving the printed receipt, I noticed an additional 20% "large party surcharge" had already been applied. Our party consisted of three people, and this charge was not verbally explained, clearly disclosed on the kiosk, or made obvious at the time of payment. When I asked about it, I was told that any bill over $100 receives automatic gratuity. The manager explained this was a newer policy and did remove the extra charge. However, when I politely suggested that tables be informed of this policy ahead of time to avoid confusion or double tipping, the waitress, Kaya, responded in a way that felt dismissive and placed the responsibility solely on the customer to catch it. She was very unprofessional and disrespectful toward me and my family... I understand policies change, but clear communication is important--especially when it involves automatic charges. I hope this feedback helps future guests avoid confusion by carefully reviewing their receipt before paying. Our family of 9 enjoyed our experience here. The manager was super nice along with our waiter. The place was easy to move around in and had decent lighting. I hate restaurants that are dimly lit so I appreciate that I can actually see my food here (which looked as great as they tasted).The bathrooms were also clean and well-stocked. I had my husband order me Sushi Love to go in excitement after 9 months of waiting for it during my pregnancy. We have a toddler at home and so was running late on getting me dinner to the hospital. He called in the order about 8:10pm and they close at 9pm. My husband offered a different sushi spot open later but I was most excited about having Sushi Love again, and because of how close it is to Abrazo West. I had him explain to the person that took his order that we had just had a baby and that I was excited to eat sushi for the first time. I went here with some friends on Friday and there weren't that many people but it got busy pretty fast. By the time our food came the place was filling up. It's a cute little spot that's nearby for me. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi but it's not the worst either. I've had better on this side of town but I was happy to try it out. Would be nice if they had happy hour specials and a drink menu. Although, when I asked the server she did say a drink menu is coming. I ordered the monkey brains and that was delicious. My only minor concern was that we had left over. When the server brought the to go container was cardboard. That doesn't go well with the food that contains runny sauce that would have definitely leaked out. I requested a plastic container and she looked confused. Then I commented that you wouldn't put soup in cardboard, so they shouldn't put running sauce in cardboard. She did talk to her manager and the to go concern was resolved, by providing the proper container. So, I gave this restaurant a 4 Star rating.
