6 types of sushi
Jeana P.

Sushi Man is located on Wilder Avenue out in Makiki. I have been here a few times. I had cravings for sushi on the days I came to the food establishment. Push the door open to enter the food joint. There's a display case on the left hand side with different types of fake sushi. There are seven chairs in the establishment. There's a little handwritten sign saying the chairs are up for sale at $7.00 each. Counter seating for individuals who want to dine in. Next to the display case is the refrigerator filled with package beverages. There is a chair for staff only and it is next to a table and counter. There is a menu board on one of the tables, another table had a display of fake sushi, and another table had DVD's or video games up for sale. My cravings consist of inari sushi, tekka maki sushi, tuna, salmon, scrambled egg, squid, shrimp, daikon maki, and cucumber maki. I can't forget the sesame balls. Credit cards are accepted here with a minimum of $10. Twice I paid with cash and my sister paid once with her credit card. I took notice of a sign near the register saying "Bring Your Own Bag" otherwise the employees will ask "Do you need a bag today?". When waiting for the food order...customers can watch the television. Most of the time the screen has cooking shows.

Very good sushi! They use good quality rice, the Unagi is one of my favorites! I also cater a sushi platter every year for my annual party! The presentation is beautifully done, Ilit's always the first thing to go. I would highly recommend Sushi Man!

Crunch don

Parking: Hawaii Kai Towne center...lots of parking as long as you're not on the Costco side Service: I've come here long enough to know to phone order your item in...trust me...cuz they truly take 15-20 minutes or longer depending on how busy they are. Food: crunch don...I kind of didn't want to post this since it's such a HK gem...but it's honestly too good not to share...it would be doing the business a disservice if people didn't know about this bowl of gold. The spicy ahi bits with the shrimp tempura/vegetable tempura bits...truly a well textured and balanced bowl. Don't forget to ask them for wasabi/ginger as well :) Overall: I'd phone order again...I probably ate this at least 20 times+ in my lifetime

Red Dragon Maki, Spicy Ahi Maki, Dynamite Maki, Strawberry Icee with ice cream and liliha powder

Sushi Man is our go to sushi place for sushi nights at home. We call ahead to place an order and it is always ready when we go to pick it up. Today we ordered the Dynamite, Spicy Ahi, and the Dragon roll. The Dynamite was nice with a little crunch. The spicy ahi has a good kick, can't go wrong. The dragon roll seaweed was a little chewy. There is free parking in the shopping center lot. ADA accessible path, though the door might be hard to get through. Inside they have seating, but it is kind of dirty and there are homeless in the vicinity so I don't feel comfortable staying long. Staff is very kind and easy to communicate with. I recommend this place for affordable sushi takeout. Platters are a hit at parties.

Seared Aburi Salmon Nigiri with Garlic & Special Mayo Sauce

Price: 8/10 - very affordable and reasonable prices, they have a lot of bento specials, plate lunch combo. Variety: 9/10 - offered maki , donburi, party platters, noodle, nigiri handroll, udon, and other items such as groza, miso soup, sesame ball, edamame, and inari Seating: 8/10 - very limited seating since there was about 6 chairs Service: 8/10 - the employees was very welcoming and the food came out very quick. I got the dynamite roll and it was very STUFFED, but I was not too fond of the texture of the spicy ahi. However, I definitely recommend getting their Seared Aburi Salmon with Garlic & Mayo sauce!

Oh man! Delicious sushi so close to home! I love their spicy ahi sushi. I'm not sure of the actual name of it since hubby ordered for me but I'm hooked! I think he said it was some sort of teriyaki sauce drizzled over the sushi but it was super delish! And honestly I don't care for teriyaki at all yet it made the entire sushi really tasty. I'm still craving for more. About $23 worth in my picture, not too bad for the price of sushi.

It tastes good, but I personally didn't want so much. They also unexpectedly put some mayo on the hamachi nigiri pieces. I would have preferred it plain. There are meals one enjoys. Meals one admires. Meals one respectfully documents, notes the flavor balance of, and later describes using words like "elegant" and "well-executed." And then there are meals that rock your world. This was one of them. Kaiten sushi, or conveyor belt sushi, is a casual, affordable Japanese dining style invented in 1958 where plates of sushi rotate on a motorized belt passing diners, allowing them to select dishes directly. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, it's not the typical catwalk of pre-made maki rolls, nigiri, and other offering. You order off a kiosk and then it is fast-tracked to your table via sushi belt. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, you are granted the ability to try their Edomae-style sushi for a more affordable price. Edomae-style sushi is a traditional Tokyo cuisine originating in the 1820s, featuring seafood, often cured, marinated, or simmered, served atop rice seasoned with red vinegar (akasu). It focuses on enhancing fish flavor through technique rather than just raw freshness, historically acting as fast food for 19th-century Edo residents. That said, dare I say the best meal I had during my stay on Oahu? I DARE! This was an excellent place suggested by Randy S. I really can't tell you all we had because Randy took charge but every bite? Certified bangers. Not one bad bite had. Pro-tip: If you want to feel like you are being mugged by Neptune, the God of the Sea, have the chawanmushi. Oceanic and delish!

I miss seeing the sushi chef in person. The sushi that I had was delicious and the preparations were unique (to me) the pieces were smallish, but so yummy. I would have ordered more but I was not very assertive and everyone wanted the iPad . Most of the nigiri orders were only one at the price point I am used to paying for two and I prefer the experience of sharing. My husband at the other table sampled more than I did. Deep fried Octopus and Toro, I had Yellow Tail and Carpacio, sample two rolls. Big surprise, the French fries were outstanding. The check worked out to about 50 pp. I think that was mostly my husband who enjoyed an array of dishes. As mentioned in other reviews, the bill stacks up quickly. I given them 4 stars for uniqueness, mostly.

The printout of the menu had a toro box lunch special. The presentation of this box was beautiful. I think the fish quality was very good for the price, but I'm not the biggest fan of fatty tuna. It also came with salad and tamago. This is a solid option for takeout lunch if you're in the area. I wish they were more consistent with answering their phone or would have an online ordering system for takeout. In addition, when doing a group order of rolls, they tend to put all the rolls in one box even though they are for separate people. Because they assume multiple rolls are for one person, they also didn't provide enough utensils, so be sure to check! I understand that this is more of a sit down restaurant, so logistics on the take out side could be better.

After walking around, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. I gave her my name, but she said we didn't have one, even though the restaurant was nearly empty. She then explained that our reservation was actually at their sister restaurant around the other side of the building. We went over there and found that it was primarily a sushi restaurant, which wasn't really what we were looking for. We had expected more of an izakaya-style experience, so we canceled the reservation and returned to the original restaurant. Once seated, the service was good and our server was attentive throughout the meal. One thing that was a little confusing was that sushi and sashimi had to be ordered from the sister restaurant, even though we were dining in the other restaurant. The food was brought over and served to us without any issues, and there were no problems with the bill, but it took us a while to understand how the two restaurants operated together. We ordered several dishes, including chicken skin wrapped gyoza, crab tempura, an assorted sashimi platter, a cream cheese and fish roe appetizer served with toast, an egg dish topped with fish roe, chicken karaage, and the miso butterfish. The highlights for me were the chicken karaage, miso butterfish, and gyoza. I enjoyed them enough to order another round of the gyoza and chicken. That said, many of the dishes leaned toward the sweeter side of Japanese cuisine, which just isn't my personal preference. If you enjoy those flavors, your experience may be different. Overall, the food was good, the service was solid, and there were a few standout dishes. The confusion with the reservation, entrance setup, and relationship between the two restaurants got the evening off to an awkward start, but the meal improved once we were seated. I'm not really a Japanese food person, so four stars is probably the highest rating I could realistically give a Japanese restaurant. With that in mind, I thought they did a good job, and there were a few dishes I would consider ordering again.

Although they have a clean and comfortable space for dining in, we regularly stop by after church or on the weekends for something to savor at our favorite park. Seriously, it's easy to enjoy their bowls, sushi sets, or bentos anytime and anyplace. We've got a passion for this place. Here's how this love affair started...I discovered Domo when a friend invited me for some sushi and sips at her place. I was amazed at the beautiful platter of sushi that accompanied our sake and wine. My friends are the best hosts! I devoured the bombs, nigiris and rolls (in between sips!). Everything was simply delicious! Fast forward a few months, I order a couple sushi sets to host a poolside, golden-hour birthday get together at my other friend's home. (I know, you want to be part of this squad, right?!). Anyway, using the online order system is a snap! My hubby went in to pick up the sushi and said they were slammed but our sushi sets were ready to go. This time we ordered some ikura because the hubby and my bestie are big fans. Both agree it was fresh and fantastic! And the garlic set with the flash-seared fish and a hint of mayo is a MUST-try. We also ordered a California roll for my friend's aunt who is not really a sushi fan. She delighted in several pieces and even enjoyed the nigiri from the garlic set. Total convert! After enjoying the platters and sets, we had to try the bentos and bowls. This time it's just us and the pup at the park. The bentos provide a great variety and comes with miso soup. The hubby really likes the shrimp tempura with ahi and salmon nigiri and ahi poke. It's a steal at less than $20. I'm a bowl girl myself and like the spicy tempura. The tempura is cooked crisp yet tender. The spicy ahi poke combined with the creamy crab salad and the crunchy ocean salad delights all my tastes buds. It's truly an adventure in finding the perfect bite--and there are so many in this bowl! I also love the seared salmon bowl. It is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I add the fried onions for some texture. You know a place is top-notch when you can feel confident that anything off their menu will satisfy your cravings. Because this is a Yelp review, here are some helpful tips. For sushi platters, pre-order. The online system is simple to use.
