Got there around 12:30 just in time for lunch and was seated quickly which I appreciate. Server was very timely and consistent with checking to see what I needed and was also very knowledgeable of the menu. I ended up getting the 2 roll special which was $11.95, I got the crunchy roll and the shrimp tempura roll which was very good. The only thing that I wish was a little better was the texture of the sushi, it was a little dry for my liking but I left my plate empty for sure. All you can eat sushi? Yes please! The sushi is good for AYCE. Didn't get sick from it. Don't order the fried rice. Not worth it, pretty dry. Save your stomach space for the rolls. Officially our new favourite sushi go-to! We went on a weekday, approximately 1pm-ish. Patrick assisted us with our order (both of us ordered ayce ) and he was such a pleasant gentleman. We both had a small salad (seaweed, and it was perfect!). We each ordered 2 sushi rolls or items, which arrived with impeccable timing as we completed our starter salads. We did each order a second helping - ordering 2 different rolls/order, which came quickly considering IT'S FRESHLY MADE! Took maybe 10 minutes? Which gave us time to chat and just enjoy a relaxing lunch. Everything was beautiful and yummy, no msg headaches, no icky tummy. We passed on dessert this time, as we had places to get to. But next time I'm getting the red bean ice cream that I was eyeing. My only suggestion would be to heat up the green tea water (it was tepid) as a Brit, we love a good hot cuppa. I probably ate close to $45 in sushi the night that I came here, but I have no regrets. Everything was absolutely delicious. I came here the night of Valentine's, so needless to say, this place was really busy. I was worried the food and service would be slow because of this, but everyone in the restaurant was working extremely hard to ensure that every customer was taken care of. The last time I visited was a couple of weeks ago on the weekend. It was kind of busy, and the hostess notified us that it would be a 25 minute wait which we were fine with. The wait ended up being shorter than expected, which was nice. It did take our server a little while to greet us considering it was a little busy. When she did, she also got our food orders in as well which was nice to kill two birds with one stone. We ordered two mai thais and two hot sake carafes. What bothered me was that our sake had old food floating around in them... We got those replaced, but now I'll definitely be on the lookout for dirty carafes on every future visit. We got our food and everything was consistent per usual including the taste and size of the cuts. We were finishing up and waiting on our last round of salmon and yellowtail sashimi, but we never received it because our server never went to get it since she and the manager said that other people were running the wrong food to the wrong tables. At the end of our visit, the manager did give us a card for 15% off of our next bill and I understand the tactic that they're trying to invite us back in hopes that we get a better experience, but I felt she should've just discounted our bill that night. The server wasn't refilling water until we had to ask the second time as well... I noticed that employees running food to the wrong table is a huge flaw at sushi masa and it really needs to stop. It was bad, especially because I realized that even the manager(s) wasn't/ weren't getting their tables right when running food because we were almost given someone else's food on many occasions. I tried a couple of sushi rolls and they didn't taste fresh at all even though we watched the guys make it. The clear soup had a very distinct taste. The service was just ok! The tables weren't cleaned too well which is the reason we sat at the sushi bar. The waitress seemed preoccupied. Didn't get a refill on water. I ordered shrimp tempura, it was COLD! I had lunch here on Tuesday. I was sat immediately upon arriving. I waited 10 minutes for my server, until the host approached me and told me my server was "on hold" and if I'd like to move. The host moved me two tables over. I waited another 10 minutes for my new server. Ordered a water and my entire meal. I never got a refill of water. My waiter was not attentive m. My sushi rolls were great but it took longer for me to wait for my server than it did for me to eat. No one should take an hour of there time for lunch especially since it was just me. Sushi Masa has been super busy for AYCE during this time, but I am so so grateful as a frontline healthcare worker for their COVID relief healthcare discount on takeout orders. It has made figuring out lunch or dinner easy and enjoyable for myself and many of my drained coworkers. The quality of the fish was great and the take out order was ready within 30 minutes of calling. They were accommodating with substituting the tuna roll that comes with the sushi deluxe with a salmon roll which is of actual lesser value on the menu, but I am just thankful they let me modify the order to begin with. Upon request, I was able to get low sodium soy sauce and I was also very happy to see a solid pile of pickled ginger with my order for a palate cleanser between sushi pieces. It's been quite some time since I've been here! But I'm surprised I've never written a review given the times I have been here. I'm just never near the area to go and eat, but if I am near Baton Rouge, I do stop here. Try to go when they open or near opening as they tend to get busy in my experience. It's all you can eat sushi with numerous other options like appetizers, salads/soup, tempura, fried rice/noodles, and teriyaki in case you don't like sushi at all. There's basically something for everyone. I mainly come here to eat sushi because they offer a pretty large variety and it's pretty good quality. There is a la carte options for those who don't want the AYCE. Pricing according to the website is as follows: lunch $18.95 with iced tea/soft drink included with free refills; dinner $28.95 with iced tea/soft drink with refills OR first alcoholic beverage included with price. Any drinks thereafter are paid per drink. I always come with a big group of friends so we always get a lot and share it so we can all try different things. Of course the menu will have more options for dinner because it costs more and you can also opt to get sashimi or nigiri at dinner versus nigiri only when you go to lunch. The appetizers and salad are hard to mess up. They're standard items that a lot of sushi spots have so it's basic. They have specialty rolls that I like although I would suggest staying away from fried ones because they are much heavier on the stomach. Some favorite specialty's include 225 roll and double spicy roll. My favorite tuna (maguro) or white tuna (escolar) are by far my two favorites when ordering nigiri. If you go for dinner try the steak teriyaki, green mussels, and fried calamari. I haven't really had anything on the menu I didn't like. Everything has always tasted fresh and really good. Overall, decently priced for AYCE and good options. I think prices have gone up, but of course food costs have gone up so that can be expected. It's still not hard to get your money's worth going with the all you can eat. The wait for food usually isn't too long or at least I've never had to wait a crazy long time when going. As much as I don't care for sushi, I do think it looks pretty, and it definitely was appealing to the eye here. My hibachi plate was flavorful and also large serving. $16.95 for all you can eat, fresh, made to order sushi? Count me in. Sushi Masa is located off of Essen, in a plaza with Ichiban Sushi and Smoothie King. Parking can be a little tricky, since there's so many eateries for that one plaza. So I don't live in Baton Rouge anymore, but whenever I visit, I always make it a point to come here. They have an AYCE lunch and dinner option, with dinner costing more. I find it more worth it to go for lunch. And if you don't feel like stuffing yourself, you could always just order from the menu like a normal restaurant. Note that this is not one of those grab a plate and try one of everything kind of buffets. You sit at the table and tell your server what you would like. Everything is made to order, so depending on when you go and how busy the restaurant is, you might have to wait a little longer for your food. My strategy is to order everything at once, as soon as I get there. You could always add more later, but order what you know you want so you don't have to wait so long. Just be sure you don't overdo it, since they do charge for wasting food. I'm a fan of everything on the lunch menu. The kitchen is always really fast about cooking the kitchen food, so be sure to order some hot foods if there's a line on the sushi bar. Service is always attentive. They designate servers to certain sections, so I've never felt that the restaurant was understaffed or that I was being neglected. The atmosphere is also pretty nice. They have a section for booths only, and then there are a few other sections with marble-like tables. They can easily accommodate private parties, as there are two small "rooms" that are semi-private, or they can easily push together tables for bigger parties. I went there by myself so i wasn't sure if i would do the $17 justice or not, but i think i did... i left with a very satisfied and completely full tummy.. The sushi wasn't fresh at all, my girlfriend received her food 15 minutes before I received mine when we finally ate the sushi was lukewarm and not appetizing at all.
