My daughter and I like to go to Tokyo Cafe for hibachi since it's close to our house. The service was great. Our server was very attentive and I really appreciated that she would make conversation with my daughter as well as with me. Our hibachi chef was great and interacted with us the entire time he cooked. The food was delicious! The salmon was so tender. My daughter got the fried rice, and we didn't realize that she would also get noodles too. The portions were enough for both of us to have leftovers, definitely worth the price. I've visited this establishment many times and have had pleasant experiences 90% of the time Brandon was our chef most of those times he's beyond helpful to us. The past two visits I have had were awful to say the least. The older chef we had was not very nice (including making weird jokes to my SO) And both times our food was numbers worse than the time before. Tonight, our chicken was undercooked and probably not safe to eat, along with a sloppy attempt to cook the rest of our meal. He did not look happy at all which I normally wouldn't mind but the rude comments and subpar food made my experience beyond subpar. We have been going here for many years. We go for my wife's birthday, my daughter's birthday and my granddaughter's birthday almost every year. This time it was a disappointment. We didn't get our sushi appetizers until the food was cooked and on our plates. The quality of the food was poor and the show, which the little ones used to love, was substandard at best. This was overall a really nice experience. I got the Chirashi dinner, which included soup, salad, and 14 pieces of sushi over a mound of rice, all for $21. The sushi was quite good, and for such a reasonable price, it's one of the best sushi finds I've had in awhile. Service was very attentive and polite, and the food came out very fast. While it is not the fanciest on the inside, if your looking for good sushi at amazing prices, I think this is a great option in BR. We were recommended to visit Tokyo Cafe as our first option did not have any hibachi seats open for the rest of the evening. We walked in and noticed it was a little outdated, to me means the best food. However, the cleanliness is at a low level. We sat at our table in the hibachi section and noticed under the grill next to our seat was filthy. Egg shells, dirt, food.. everything. Under the grill looked like it hadn't been actually cleaned in years. I soon got nauseous but kept going with the evening. I kept thinking if the front of their house looked like this, i can't imagine the kitchen. The drink was average but for $6 , can't complain. Salad was hot with a soup level amount of dressing. The chef was socially awkward and not really entertaining. But the food was really good! However, i woke up with the worst...painful ... food poisoning that i had to call out of work. Where I am located to sleep and work I am no where near quality sushi at the times I desire and am available to order--and this location is no exception. I had forgotten about this location until recently so I tried I--placed a take out order shortly after 1:00 pm on a weekday---the hostess was polite and business like and efficient---and the order was filled quickly so those are good things. The sushi was in my estimation average---when trying new places I usually order rock n roll & shrimp tempura for comparison purposes. I also like to select a 3rd--and when I see a volcano roll I usually make that my 3rd selection---the shrimp tempura o ordered was either not fresh or they do not serve it warm. The rock n roll was not as flavorful and fresh as I would have liked. The volcano roll---perhaps the first time I ordered a volcano roll it set to high of a bar as to flavor and taste and none I have ordered since from any different establishment has come close and Neither does Tokyo cafe. Anyway, I ate all 3 rolls and quite frankly I was not full and felt underwhelmed. So much for this $32 lunch. read more

They have everything you would expect, from a extensive sushi menu, to performance hibachi tables. Their regular menu is extensive and worth exploring as well. Sushi is a headliner, with a sushi bar you can sit at and watch your selections be made, or you can order from any table or booth. Rolls and selections are fully described on the menu, so you can study what you might want. They have samplers and boxes too, to simplify your ordering. I like to mine the menu for lesser know tasty dishes. One of my favorites is the Seafood Udon Soup, which is one big filling bowl of greatness. The noodle dishes are also a lesser known but very worthwhile dish. There are many delicious dishes one can discover in the many menu pages. I haven't participated in the hibachi myself, but I've seen it from a distance and it looks as entertaining as such things should be. This is always a great thing to bring a group or family to participate in. The location is good, with a spacious interior and ample parking in the large shopping center lot. The chef can't make takoyaki, so he just deep fried a fish ball and called it a day. I've had these same fishballs from the Asian store before, so I know how they taste. These were hard to chew because of the fried breading, and it did not taste good. If I wanted fishballs, I would've boiled them, not deep fry them. They also forgot to add mayonnaise to it, and only added it when I asked them to. In summary: The sushi is good, but the takoyaki is a lie. read more

A hibachi chef shortage at my normal go-to spot led me to give Tokyo another shot. I was reminded unfortunately why I can't come back again. My family was first to arrive on a Wednesday night for an early dinner. I was hoping they didn't notice was I was seeing: The corners of stainless steel table were caked with remnants from previous meals, leftover noodles, and general gooeyness - hopefully just that days lunch - not sure. When the chef came to start with cleaning the grill I was relieved when he finally caught the last petrified noodle camped in the field of the grill. I didn't want to take a closer look at the leftover cracked egg shell in the corner on the floor of the chef's table behind him - it didn't look that fresh. The entire workspace just had a thick film of stickiness, floors, tile walls, equipment etc. Used to seeing their super sharp knives glide through everything, I felt bad for this poor guy who's knife was so dull he almost had to saw through the raw steak as it begrudgingly fought back and resisted his efforts. Fortunately I paid extra for the filet and it was good, but my family was burning through calories trying to chew the rubbery sirloin and chicken. The chef barely turned what I'd have to call "rice al dente", crunchy and lacking flavor or effort. The guy looked tired and unenergetic. I'm afraid to say there's probably no hope for this place to turn itself around. Someone is just milking it for whatever sales they can get from patrons that either can't tell or don't care about a quality meal or experience. read more

Lame haiku for review: "It's kind of all right / the sushi looks impressive / taste? It was just fine." It's an alright place; not super memorable and distinct for deliciousness. My party of 12 all went WOW as each dish came out because presentation is definitely nice. It was a bit expensive for my broke student budget, and my dish (nabeyake udon) was a little too salty for my taste, but yummy none the less. I like my restaurants to be memorable so I will want to go back, and I really only remember it for how everything looked rather than tasted. Definitely check it out for yourself though!! read more

I went here for the first time for lunch this week. I had high expectations due to its reviews, but I believe they fell a little short when it came to their special roll and their baked mussel appetizer. Their salmon avocado roll was fresh and delicious. However, their dancing roll was not as good as it sounded. I'm not sure what it was but I believe it could be have been the batter on the fried soft shell crab that gave it an odd taste. I love getting baked mussels anytime I can, but I was disappointed to find out that the majority of the mussel was semi-cooked chopped up onions. The mussel was cut up with the chopped onions and smothered in the sauce. The sauce was delicious, but I wish that the mussels were not cut up and that there were no onions. I will say that the hibachi is completely worth it, taste and price wise. My brother ordered the hibachi vegetable lunch and they gave him so much food for $7.95. The lunch included noodles, soup, and hibachi vegetables. He added fried rice for $1.99. His hibachi was delicious and the amount they gave him for lunch was HUGE. I definitely recommend the hibachi because it's worth it for the price and taste! I would also like to point out that the service was very attentive!
