Don't see what all the fuss is about....as sushi places go, in South Orange County, places like this are a dime a dozen. The cut rolls were ok, but certainly not 5 star. The sashimi was fairly fresh and the presentation was ok, but smothered in sauces is not the way I like my cut rolls...the sauce should accent the rolls, not drown them. That said, there was plenty to like, but just nothing to rave about. Pricing was in line and in La Jolla, that says something. Overall, I thought it was ok and if I lived local, I bet I could eat enough dishes to find their true signature dish. The seaweed salad was very good though and the Maguro (tuna) was just right, so no complaints. The young man serving us was hardly attentive and the thought of eating sushi with shirtless beach bums with tattoos was odd, but being a block from the beach, this place makes everyone feel welcome. This last visit my family and I ordered an array of sushi rolls, tempura, gyoza, yakisoba and fried rice. Everything was very fresh. The yakisoba specifically was the most memorable to me, probably because I've ordered yakisoba over the years at so many places and each time being so disappointing. Came in here for dinner one night with a friend and it was such a good time! We had the blue fin tuna nigiri, king salmon sashimi, kanpachi sashimi, and the playboy roll. The green mussels had a little spicy kick to them which was a pleasant surprise. The crunch shrimp roll was well executed and super delicious. Great little sushi place over in La Jolla Shores. We went on a Saturday at 7PM and there was a 20% Happy Hour special going on! I wasn't expecting that for a saturday night service so it was a pleasant surprise. The food was really good. We had the pork gyoza as an appetizer and I got the Sakura roll and I got the Gucci roll with real crab in it. It was very tasty, not to much sauce, and there was the perfect amount of spiciness on my Gucci roll. The only imperfection was the wait from when we were seated to putting our order in. We were seated outside in the corner and I think it was easy to forget about us especially as it got darker outside. Other than that the hostess was very bubbly and welcoming! I'd totally come back! We went here for my Girlfriends Birthday dinner, with a large party of people. Originally, we thought it was Sushi Boat, with conveyor belts and everything, but we walked in to learn it had been recently remodeled, or reopened how ever you want to think of it. Since it was already pretty late, we decided to stay and see how it was, and we were so glad we did! The food there is great for the price you pay, it is by no means the best sushi in the world, BUT if you want the best bang for your buck, I suggest this place. The sushi was fresh, and was nicely plated. Everyone's favorite was the Spicy Tuna, very authentic, and very fresh. I plan to spend a good $50 just on spicy tuna next time we go. My girlfriend and I ordered a sushi boat, as well as two sushi rolls. The boat was good, but by no means comparable to the sushi itself. To top it all off we ordered ice cream, and I have never tasted such good green tea ice cream, and the Plum and Redbean were excellent as well. Staff was great, it seemed like our waiter was very nervous, but he was attentive and we always had water or what ever we needed. The guys at the sushi bar seemed super friendly as well, but we didn't get much interaction with them. We did have a little bit of a problem with some people's dishes coming out much later than others, but we had a large party for such a small establishment, and all of the dishes were excellent and since the atmosphere was so relaxed we just enjoyed ourselves with the extra time. Out of the 8 people in our party, everyone keeps telling told they want to go back and eat at Sushi Mori again. So I'd say we were very satisfied. read more

Hummm - the cut roll was salmon skin and it was an inedible wet mess with lots of sauce on it that I retuned. The white meat chicken tasted like the grill and the sauce was mediocre at best. The tempura appetizer wasn't terrible though. The service was horrible. There were two waitresses and like two other tables in the entire restaurant and it took us until our food came to be able to flag them down and tell them my diet coke was hot and flat (and then when we did the girl almost seemed pissed.)
