Good sushi roll, good Kara age, gyu don was enjoyable, and salmon kama worked. Price was reasonable. But the ambiance need a bit of work. It was too hot. It's August. I try to escape the outside for the comfort of AC. And I did not feel comfortable. I don't care very much for ambiance usually but when it's directly bothering me, it's different. This is a cozy anime themed Japanese restaurant serving yummy rolls, bentos, udon and much more at a very affordable price. The staff there are wonderful and make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. The fish for the Nigiri mix tasted very fresh and the fatty tuna (toro) melted in our mouths. Everyone here is always so kind and helpful and attentive, the fish is fresh and exactly the right amount of sauces. The salmon avocado roll was probably the best thing we had. They are very fast though! This is our go-to sushi spot. It's small and low key, but that's what we love about it. Super kid-friendly and the food always comes out fast, which is a win with little ones. Not the fanciest food but the prices can't be beat and the sushi always seems fresh. I eat mostly plant-based and can always find something here -- veggie rolls, miso soup, edamame, seaweed salad. They have a good variety on the menu if you're with a group or picky eaters. It's not fancy, but it's a nice casual spot. I see lots of people doing pick ups for to go orders. Came here on a Friday night. This is located at the strip mall on Governor where Vons is. We got a table right away. Price is pretty reasonable. We ordered the hamachi kama. It was a little undercooked. But the serving was pretty big. It came with rice. We also ordered the $70 boat. It was a pretty good size and thought it was too much for 2 people. I've driven by this little strip mall many times whilst doing my errands at Rite Aid, Vons or the laundry mat. Just never went in until today. We came for lunch and left full and happy. Courteous prompt service, visually appealing food that leaves your tastebuds wanting more. I ordered the teriyaki salmon rice bowl. The only thing I needed was extra sauce, which they brought out in an extra dish. Daughter ordered sushi and the mango crunch roll. I tried a bite of the mango roll. The combination of mango, krab, shrimp, sauces and avocado really paired well. I would order this again. I look forward to more lunches here and trying more menu items. They had a good balance of their own original rolls and also the standard popular rolls with some fresh takes that I appreciated. Fish is portioned well and tastes nice and fresh! I loved the restaurant interior, it's super cozy and filled with Japanese paraphernalia, from an entire gunpla and anime collectible display, to lovely little posters about sushi and cats. Ordered a modified Chirashi-don today to go because I have an allergy to avocado and they totally accommodated my request for imitation crab as a substitute and the size of the dish with the freshness of the dish totally complimented each other and was totally reasonably priced (which I am learning is rare in San Diego) also the chirashi selection was all fish, so that's an auto 5 stars in my book too lol. I was charged extra on my card and when I had asked them about it they had told me that there must be something wrong with my card. My family has been ordering from this restaurant for quite some time now as it's one of our favorite sushi restaurants. On Friday August 25th, an order was placed and clarified that we wanted tempura vegetables and a vegetable sushi roll. When we got home we opened the boxes and saw we received a vegetable tempura sushi roll along with the vegetable sushi roll. The person who ordered the vegetables does not eat sushi and this was supposed to be her meal. My mother called and let the woman who answered know that the order was wrong. After clarifying, my mother offered to bring the food back and she was told "no" and to keep it. When my mother drove all the way back to Governor Dr from where we live, she was told she would have to pay for the correct item, even though she offered to bring the incorrect order back. After patronizing this establishment, this was disappointing especially after she made the drive twice and she spent well over $80 that evening. The receipts aren't itemized either so you don't even know what you are being charged for. We are not sure if we will be returning customers. There wasn't an attempt at customer service or to fix the incorrect order. My mother paid because she didn't want to be rude but it was upsetting that there wasn't an attempt to fix the issue and she had to make 2 trips to make sure everyone had their correct meals. read more

Went here to avoid the crazy crowds around the UTC area and this place was so worth it. We got there right when they opened at 4:30pm and I got the nigiri mix and a philadelphia roll. This was definitely some of the best nigiri i've had in comparison to AYCE sushi's places, the fish was fresh and the pieces were big! Philadelphia roll is a classic and has just the right amount of cream cheese too. Service was also friendly and fast, and the owners look to have their own gundam collection on display! TERRIBLE, terrible service. Came here on a Wednesday lunch to grab a quick lunch after going to a Chase nearby. When we went inside we had to stand there for quite a while until someone seated us. The sushi chefs on the left side kept looking at us and looking back at the server working there to hint at her that we should be greeted. What's more upsetting is that she saw and made eye contact with us several times but continued doing what she was doing for another few minutes. Worst decision of the week to not leave when that happened. Once we got seated, we were handed menus but we weren't even served any water. And it took them 10+ minutes to get back to us to get our order started and that was only because we kept raising our hands and uncomfortably staring at them to grab their attention. Our food took another good 10-15 minutes to come out and maybe I'd give this place 2 stars if the food was good. My mom got a bento and I got a chirashi bowl and both were mediocre at best. Cheap quality California rolls and teriyaki sauce that taste store-bought and overly sweet. Over cooked salmon and hardened cold rice. When we were done it also took them another 15 minutes to give us a check and at that point I didn't know if we were gonna wait another 15 min to pay and get our card back so I just got up and told them to help me with the payment. To top it off, zero goodbyes from anyone when we were walking out. Never have I received such bad service from the moment I stepped foot into a place to the moment I left. Not great, not over the top, not trying to be something they're not, just a humble establishment preparing an honest meal. I started with the sunonomo salad for $3 to get my greens then opted for a spicy salmon roll while it waited for my main course salmon teriyaki bowl. The odd thing about the salmon teriyaki bowl was that it didn't come in a bowl, it came served on a plate. They explained that the salmon doesn't fit in a bowl so they serve it on a plate. I didn't argue because for $8.50 it was a pretty good value. I finished with a spicy scallop hand roll and called it good. The food was all tasty and fresh.
