We had a taste for sushi. The business is owned by a lovely Korean couple. She took the time to explain Japanese tesis Korean sushi. She works the front of the house and he's the sushi master. Now we're not the die hard sushi type of folks. We want our food cooked not raw. Anyway, we were seated and we'll attended though there was no other customers in the restaurant. Our hostess was lovely. They provide a list of their sushi options, raw or cooked. A star indicates the raw sushi options. We ordered the salmon roll, shrimp roll and spicy crab roll. My favorite was the spicy crab roll. It had the perfect spice level and of course you can add to your taste wasabi. Not being a sushi expert I couldn't exactly distinguish the crab from the shrimp other than the spice. My apologies to the Yelp community!!!! One thing for certain it didn't appear that we ordered enough to be full. I was very mistaken. We were stuffed and had to take some home for later. Fun little spot! SUSHI SAPPORO is in this spot now. My husband and I saw the new sign a couple of weeks ago. We walked in last night and it happened to be their opening night. It was good. The Sushi Chef is so nice. Me and my gf tried Sushi Moto the other day and were very disappointed. The sushi was priced around mid level, not too expensive, but not cheap. However the sushi did not live up to even a cheap standard. We both ordered a salmon type roll and we both thought it was wet. The flavor as a whole was also off. Also, they leave their wasabi in a little bowl on the table with a lid. It was very cute but we both felt disgusted by it as parties before you could accidentally do something to it. Tried this place because I have a sushi craving . Got the food to go I got the in and out and the firecracker and after I opened it , wasn't very impressed. The menu was pictures only with no price . I paid almost 30 dollars for 2 measly rolls. The in and out tasted kind of funny and it did not look anything like the picture. Its supposed to have some kind of fish on top not sure if its salmon or tuna but it is paper thin and the crab salad inside tasted like straight up mayonnaise. It was wrapped in some pink wrapper instead of the seaweed and it did not taste very good. The firecracker was decent but it was small and barely had anything in it. Walked in at 1:30pm for a quick and cheap late lunch and there was no sushi on the conveyor. Ordered unagi donburi and watched one of the two employees assemble it from a small amount of overheated rice and some refrigerated eel. A few flecks of room temp avocado and it was 'done'. Barely edible to be honest. The eel was still ice cold and the sauce was basically a paste from behind chilled. Also cost $15 so wasn't exactly cheap. There was one other party being served but otherwise it was hard to tell the place was even open. read more

I'm writing this review during Covid pandemic. Decided to give this small business a try. However, I should have read the reviews before entering this place. Just like you're usual take on multiple sushi plates for the conveyer belt style establishment they use a menu menu without any pricing. Just check and hand it to the chef. The menu they gave me had the common price crossed out. I'm assuming the price had to be different since they were serving full rolls, not conveyer plate size portions. When I asked the lady, she tells me (in a not so friendly way) the range of prices $6.95, $7.95, $8.95 and "spirit fingers" the menu I was holding. I felt if I asked how much for the ones I was interested in, it would have made her upset. So I was careful with my order picking and hopefully did not break the bank. Sure enough when it came to check out time, paid $50 for 3 sushi rolls, a very soupy poke bowl, and 4 baked mussels! And then she never offered me my receipt! Sushi is okay as you would expect from conveyer belt sushi. I thought the rolls were skimpy for the price though. The biggest upset was the Ahi Poke. Never in my life did I ever have any kind of juicy, soupy, watery, poke. I attached a video of this upset! And you can tell the tuna was not fresh. This place should just stick to sushi rolls and sashimi. If you don't know how Ahi Poke is supposed to taste or look, don't offer it! And then charge $10 for it. And seriously work on the people skills. Like I said in the beginning of this, I should have read the reviews first. I would suggest to go to other sushi places, unless you're feeling very optimistic and really pity this small business. Hope this review was helpful to some people. read more

I have been taking my kids here for a couple of years and I'm sad to say, tonight was our last time going there, and we won't be back. WHY you ask? Unfortunately it's the age old restaurant gimmick... After establishing a decent reputation, start cutting the portion sizes down little by little, and'no one will notice'. Kind of like a frog/lobster being slowly boiled. Today the food didn't really even taste 'fresh', and the cook wasn't interested in asking for orders and checking on customers. We know and love sushi; some might even call us sushi snobs. We descend as a household unit upon this place, and we do not come to play. Fact is, we eat like hogs here. This is damn good sushi, folks! The service is fast and pleasant. The sushi is always fresh. Years ago, this was a conveyor belt-style joint; it hasn't been that way for a long time now. I am knocking off one star only for decor as the place could use a refresh; however, it's all very clean every time we go. This place deserves better than these old, stale reviews. Today I visited sushi moto bar for the first time. I was surprised to notice that no prices were posted anywhere in the restaurant. Most sushi trains clearly post pricing for each plate. In addition to this, when I asked my waitress about what options were gluten free, she reacted very rudely, condescendingly, and negatively. She told me that she wasn't sure what gluten is and that she knew the sesame balls (they are not gluten free and I know this because I am Japanese and know what ingredients go into Sesame balls) were gluten free but that she thought there might be gluten in the rice. I had to explain to her that gluten is a wheat product and that it is not present in rice. She just responded by saying she wasn't sure about the gluten and then walked away before we could place sushi orders or to ask for other items that we wanted. So, main takeaways, horrible place because there are no prices posted ANYWHERE. And terribly, rude customer service. read more

We just ate here for the first time tonight. I looked at reviews afterward (I know--wrong order!) But, I was pretty surprised at how low they were. I thought the rolls we had were very good--fresh, well-made, presented attractively! The price was good, too. I guess if you are needing or expecting the rotating sushi restaurant style, you would need to go elsewhere. Here, we ordered from a menu and they brought it to the table. I, personally, prefer that and think it leads to higher-quality rolls. Also, you can easily see when you walk in that it's not that kind of restaurant now. I only chose 4 stars instead of 5 because I do feel the interior of the restaurant could use some work--maybe a refresh/update? Not sure how long they have been there, but it isn't the best-looking restaurant ever. I would absolutely go back again, though, based on quality of food and value. read more

I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE REVIEWS!!! After a long day of kayaking, my family and I were hungry and sushi sounded both quick & appetizing! We were quickly seated and left with a paper menu to fill out to order fresh items, and the conveyor belt for things already made. We started filled out the menu and then began to eat off the conveyor belt. The customer service was great unlike some of the other reviews on here say. The problem wasn't until we were a couple of plates in, we noticed a plate pass by with no lid covering it... we all thought it was odd but were giving the benefit of the doubt. A few minutes pass by and we notice more and more plates without covers on them.... then we see the sushi chef just plop down MORE plates without covers on the conveyor belt. There was even RAW items floating around the room uncovered!!! We then decided to stop eating immediately. We could no longer trust the integrity of the food because how do we know the covered items have also not been sitting out all day long as well? Aside from the insanitary environment, the sushi was trash!!! I've had better sushi at Safeway that was definitely safer to eat as well!!! SO much better than any other conveyor belt style sushi places around. Amazing rice! And things are so much more fresh. Unlike Sushi Hana, they don't try to make as much sushi as they can and get it out on the belt, only to have it sit there and go around in circles for hours because its impossible to eat as much as they're making. Sushi Moto realizes how stupid that really is and is happy to make any roll whenever you decide you want it. There are still a reasonable amount of rolls going around though. read more

Normally when restaurants open in this area, they send advertisements to my neighborhood (located right next to the plaza) but Sushi Moto only had a banner with the words "Grand Opening". Had my sister not seen the sign first, I doubt I would have ever been made aware of this restaurant's existence. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a shot. The inner decor is clean and simple, with a sushi conveyor belt in the middle surrounded by three booths and several bar stools. I appreciated the high ceiling and good lighting. The staff was also friendly - especially those standing within the conveyor belt. One gentleman in particular kept coming around to ask if we would like to order anything else - a gesture I appreciate particularly at sushi restaurants. However, the sushi itself was not spectacular or memorable in any way. Among my family, we tried almost all of the "specialty" rolls and the only one that vaguely left an impression was the one filled with crab salad and tempura shrimp and topped with eel and avocado. Don't get me wrong - the rice was fresh and the arrangements were visually appealing but there just wasn't anything that stood out. Too many of the dishes relied on spicy mayo sauce which I don't particularly like. I also ordered the Moto Salad. The first waiter who took our order must have forgotten because he disappeared for the rest of our visit. We had to repeat the order again to another staff who then asked the head worker how to make the dish. The salad itself was a mix of cucumber and radish topped with assorted sashimi, seaweed salad, and roe. Unfortunately, the whole dish was soaked in vinegar - a little too intense for my tastes. At $6.50, the price wasn't terrible but wasn't a steal either. Overall, a mediocre sushi belt restaurant. A slight upgrade from Sushi Hana but also slightly more expensive at $1.75 a plate. read more

We have been enjoying this low key sushi place about 4-5 years. They sort of dropped off a bit the past few months but tonight was awesome! So if you are expecting this to be like the $20 a roll sushi in Downtown Portland you will be disappointed. But this is NOT grocery store or gas station sushi. We always go for Tuesday night $1.25 plate special and it is perfect. Sushi is fresh made in front of you, lots of variety- clean table and fast service. If you are looking for a solid, fun, sushi cafe this is great. Perfect place for happy hour dinner, quick meal, and with the bar is a great way to eat out solo.
