We have been to this long time local sushi mainstay a few times now. Our most recent outing was during the Monday MLK holiday dinner service. Sushi Nara is located in the nice busting Vineyard plaza off Monterey Road and Tennant Avenue in Morgan Hill. Plenty of parking is accessible in the large parking lot. The sushi restaurant has simple traditional Japanese modern decor. The atmosphere is family friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of tables and booths for dine in. An appealing sushi bar is present as soon as you walk in. We ordered salmon nigiri, unagi nigiri, gyoza, tempura shrimp dinner, rock and roll sushi roll, Godzilla roll and a glass of Chardonnay. Everything was delicious and high quality. My tempura shrimp dinner included plenty of crispy tasty shrimp. The salad underwhelmed with just lettuce and too much dressing. My favorite was the Godzilla roll. Every bite was bursting with flavor. Overall we enjoyed our recent experience at Sushi Nara. The staff were nice and accommodating. Food came out quickly. My only gripe was the price point of the bento boxes and dinner specials were too high compared to other sushi restaurants. I'm glad we were able to drop in finally since we have not been here in a while. read more

Edit: Turns out, I've been going to Sushi Nara since I moved to Morgan Hill over 10 years ago. I have been going to Sushi Nara for at least 5 years. It's all about their Chirashi Bowl and the fresh wasabi add on. It's legit my favorite menu item because they are super generous with the fish slices, variety and portions. I have tried other sushi places that have been a Morgan Hill staple as well as newer places but I keep coming back here. I've mostly done take out these days but when I do done in, the staff are attentive and polite and there's a bit of speed in their step when providing service. There's plenty of space to sit, it's not too loud when the restaurant is full either. read more

Went for the first time last night. Should be named teriyaki and tempura house. Almost everything comes with teriyaki sauce but it doesn't say on the menu, it's fine if you like teriyaki, we personally don't. We waited over 10 minutes after being told to pick a table. I told my husband they have 3 more minutes and we are gone if we aren't acknowledged. It wasn't busy. We received rolls we didn't ask for, I let that go, but then having the teriyaki sauce on everything we ordered wasn't pleasant, when we mentioned it wasn't on the menu, the response was, " Yah we put teriyaki on Almost everything " not my thing personally. My boyfriend raves about this place so he brought me in. the menu is definitely a tad overwhelming there's a lot of rolls to choose from. tomago was disappointing, although it looked like it was made in house, the egg looked very old, and didn't taste good. I got the Victoria's Secret roll.. it was okay. Also tried the unagi nigiri which was good because the unagi itself was cut large. overall probably wouldn't mind not coming back. But the ambiance and sushi chefs were very nice! Really enjoyed our visit on Tuesday evening. Staff is very attentive and helpful, they read the room very well and do their best to provide great customer service. This was my first time here, came with my toddler. What we ordered: - Kids plate with salmon (which was half the cost of what we usually pay in another our go to sushi place). The bento box came with a piece of salmon, one pot sticker, one shrimp tempura, salad, rice, miso soup and a slice of orange. Very good size for a kids place and for the price around $9.50. - California roll and shrimp lover roll ( I really enjoyed my rolls). Very cute presentation on a little bamboo bridge. We enjoyed fresh food and very laid back quiet ambiance. I was impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere, with the staff and sushi chefs enthusiastically greeting every customer as they entered and left, creating a memorable and inviting experience. We plan to return with my husband next time and sample other sushi rolls. My total for 2 sushi rolls, kids bento box and orange juice was under $50 which is reasonable considering current economy. Stopped in the second they opened the doors. Was greeted quickly and told to pick anyplace to sit. Waitress was friendly and brought me a water and asked what I wanted. I ordered a pot of green tea and the sashimi combo along with a big bang roll. Sashimi combo - nice selection of fish. Very fresh and tasty. Had the usual tuna, salmon and yellowtail. Big bang roll- was very good. Not very spicy but had a little kick and was really good. I will say the Hamachi Kama is bigger than other sushi places, but the sushi rolls itself is just fine. The nigiri pieces on the family meals seem a step above the sides of the boat. Not careful with allergies This has happened to me twice. I have ordered and have asked them if they can be careful of a shellfish allergy as my reactions are severe. They reassured me that they can definitely be careful and ensure there's no cross contamination. The very first time I ordered, I did end up getting a reaction. I still opted to give this place another chance because I'm like you know sometimes things just happen. Today, I called and I explained how I'm allergic and cannot have shrimp. I was told again how it wouldn't be a problem. I pick up my food, and confirm again that there's absolutely no shrimp to which they agree. Upon getting home, the entire roll is shrimp. Had I not caught it and ate it, I would currently be texting this from kaisers ER department. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because they agreed to refund me this time. The music was quite annoying- rave music, not sure if it was in another language or not but I had a rough time trying to concentrate on the menu because the music was loud and irritating. We had lunch there yesterday, not very good, my wife's spider roll and tuna Maguro was halfway decent, my beef teriyaki plate was horrible, I ate it anyway because I was starving. The portions were very small and overpriced, $49 for lunch, a glass of water and one iced tea. And we left there hungry! We were kind enough to give her $9 tip cuz she was pleasant. This is not sushi. I would say it's the last place I would go in town. I tried this place once about 10 years ago and vowed to never come back. Gave it one more try. O wow. It's not sushi at all. Rolls are huge and lack flavor. Ramen was instant ramen packet and lacked flavor. Udon was ok. It's just so white wash. It's not Japanese in any way. I just stopped by this restaurant near my house and pickup some Togo order. Before the server was hand me the food, he was asking whether I have paid for it. This is a rude and dumb question that he asked customer if you have paid for Togo order. You should check with cashier if the order has been paid for it before hand to customer. No complaints here. The nigiri and rolls were great and nicely presented. The wait staff was professional. Only down side if any was that they were not enforcing customers waiting for their togo orders to keep there face mask on even though there are signs stating face mask required when not dinning. A suggestion for the restaurant is to not allow outside food. Saw a family go pick up a couple of Happy Meals from across the parking lot and eat them at the restaurant. If you can't find options on the menu then might not be a place for you. read more
