I was in the area and stopped by Moon's Kitchen to get something to go. I ordered the Prawns and Chicken Teriyaki with mushrooms lunch combo served with steamed rice and chicken salad. When I see chicken salad, I think it's chicken salad...made with chicken. It's actually a lettuce salad with tiny pieces of chicken and a little bit of crushed peanuts. lol It was pretty good, especially the mushrooms. There really wasn't a balance of chicken and shrimp. I wouldn't call them prawns since I think of prawns that are a couple of inches big ;-) I do appreciate that they provide the teriyaki sauce separately. IMO, it tastes great without the sauce. read more

Located in a shopping center Moon's Kitchen has easy access to parking spaces. Walking in it looks kind of drab and outdated. The menu is straight forward and easy to navigate. The price point IMO is on the higher side for the quality of food I received. The service again IMO was lack luster, I felt like even though the server did a good job, she didn't want to be there serving us. She crossed tithe T's and dotted her I's but that's it. The food was a solid C- The food was sweet did not taste fresh and looked like it was thrown together with leftovers. The Chinese salad was pretty much shredded lettuce with a dressing on top. Overall the food reminded me of old people food, if you know what I mean, aka we came here to eat because the food is inexpensive and we don't care about the quality, because I lost my tastebuds" except in this case the food was also overpriced. October- First time having food in Morgan Hill. Honestly I don't have 'data' in the area. Super hungry after an appointment and decided to make a left turn instead of right towards the way home.. and randomly was driving by.. spotted this and parked. First time having Japanese food with a fork was interesting. I did see one Filipino grandpa eat with chopsticks while the rest of his relatives also ate with forks. The food is really good - I got a bento and their chicken salad that comes with the bento is fire aka delicious (which is also advertised on their window in vinyl text). Service was nice, pleasant. Would recommend if you are in their area for whatever reason or work around there. Their patrons are pretty diverse and everyone seems to really excited over their food. (But, could the patrons learn/try to learn to use chopsticks.. that I would love to see). read more

Moons Kitchen waitress serves you soup in a bowl with no saucer and no spoon. The waitress places the soup bowl in front of you using her bare hands. So what ever is on the waitress hands in now on your soup bowl. If you pick up the bowl and drink from it you now have what was on the waitress hands on your hands and possible in your mouth. This is in violation FDA FOOD code to prevent bacteria/viruses from hands touching food/rims. From what I'm reading, Hands easily transfer pathogens, and even with good hand washing, viruses can remain, making bare hand contact a food safety risk. Apparently at Moons Kitchen delivering soup bowls with bare hands, no saucer and no spoon, is common practice. I'm not going back. read more

My family has frequented Moon's Kitchen for over 33 years, same owners, same great food, they are very welcoming and I'm so glad they are still around. My kids can get enough of their Gyoza (fried potstickers), and for good reason, they are soooo good! I can't believe this was my first time trying Moon's Kitchen. It's been around a very long time which is always a good sign. I don't live in the area but family does and they have always given it good reviews. I called in my order and opted for the Combination I which came with chicken salad, shrimp and vegetable tempura, rice and teriyaki chicken. It's not cheap at $19.95 but what is cheap anymore?? It was worth the price, I gotta say. The shrimp tempura were my fav, they were almost pounded thin and flat with just the right amount of tempura. It came with tempura dipping sauce or ranch and I honestly liked both. Teriyaki chicken was really good and on point. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the chicken salad was, so simple but flavorful. I even had leftovers so that $20 meal was two meals for me! I will DEFINITELY return to Moons to try a few other items on their menu. I gobbled up my food so quickly when I got home but I managed to snap a pic of the inside dining room while waiting. Ordered takeout, was about to get unagi rolls but figured I should actually have a fuller meal. Opted for the dinner bento box - salmon teriyaki w/ California rolls (4 pc) and crispy California rolls (4 pc). Delicious, not the most most mind-blowing food but great when you're in the local area. I can't judge on service or ambiance too much since my aunt did a takeout for me and our family since I was visiting. Definitely open to having again as it still felt like comfort food and it definitely seemed to be like that for my family, so I want to explore more of the menu - for example the unagi rolls - whenever I visit again. read more

Bento box! I came here with my party of 10 and were seated fairly comfortably for such a small dinning space. We were able to order fairly quick and got our drinks right away. They were attentive to refilling water cups and requesting if I wanted a refill of soda. I ordered a bento box with teriyaki chicken and a crunchy California roll. I was already imagining the crunch (salivating)! It came with a house chicken salad and white rice. Miso soup included. I'm not a huge fan of Miso soup but I drank the whole thing. It was flavorful and smooth. My chicken was amazing. It was juicy and flavorful. The crunchy California roll was BOMB. So crunchy!! The house chicken salad was unexpected. I thought I was going to get sliced up lettuce and some dressing but I got a delicious side salad with chicken! The presentation of my food was beautiful and clean. The taste was delicious. This place is a little nostalgic for me and I can't say enough good things about it. When I was in high school we would come here with family friends and the food was just as amazing today as it was then. It had been a while since I came back, last week a friend of mine and I met for lunch and we were not disappointed. I even door-dashed it again yesterday lol. The ladies that own it were the same as I remember so sweet and inviting. The Beef Teriyaki is THE BEST! California rolls , so fresh and delish! I picked up Moon's Kitchen for lunch last week. It is a quaint restaurant in a shopping center that is filled with some other simple restaurants as well as a Dollar Tree. The menu is extensive with Korean & Japanese options so for those who like some variety, this is a good option. I finally decided on the Combination II which comes with Chicken Teriyaki, BBQ Rib, Kabob & 2 Prawn Tempura along with the rice & chicken salad. It was a lot of food and was good as a lunch option. It was a big Korean-flavored rib. The deep fried prawns were thin and the kabob is a veggie kabob. I was a bit surprised at how small the rice scoop portion in comparison, but realize it was a Japanese rice so a bit denser and more filling. I'm also thinking maybe they know their clientele who may prefer the chicken salad over carbs. I like the lightness of the chicken salad which offered a great balance with the other food. As for the caterpillar roll, it tasted fine but I was disappointed in the ratio of the inside of the roll which was only little unagi and more rice with the avocado on the outside. Perhaps It was my bad for not reading the menu description. Prices are now in the $15+ for lunch bento boxes but prices pretty much have gone up everywhere so I can't fault them for trying to survive. My combo box was about $19. Overall I would return to this place and even eat there for a casual lunch or dinner meal as it offers enough selection for guests to choose from. Rude, rude, rude.... Me and my hubby and kids eat here quite often and yes the service hasn't always been the best, but it's been decent enough for us to go back.Unfortunately, this time was horrible... and it's not even to say it's because it was busy. When we arrived for dinner the place was dead, not 1 single person dining in. From the get go we didn't even get a welcoming hello one of the waitresses just says "sit here" after that we got ignored for quite awhile until we asked for something to drink, and may I remind you it's dead.. after awhile of waiting we received our appetizer. I asked one of the waitress for napkins and she wouldn't give me more than 2 when there is 4 of us dining in.. but there were 2 other customers that arrived and got treated very well. Their food even came out before ours.. once our main entrees arrived my chicken was too garlicky for my liking so I politely asked if they could switch it. After that we got completely ignored.. we had to keep asking for refills and never once got asked if we needed anything or how the food was.. like WTH its not a cheap meal the least they can do is make us feel welcomed and show some hospitality to there paying guests. At the end me and my family didn't even get to enjoy our food because of the bad bad service.. once my hubby and I went to pay I told one of the staff that is there all the time how we felt about our experience this time.. they didn't really care and the one waitress that was rude the entire time wanted to argue that she was attentive to us.. Not quite impressed with my order especially with the price. I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen expecting it to be like the Tonkotsu you get from a real Japanese Ramen place. I got a combo which was around $15.00 plus. I had california roll with it. Sadly, it was just instant ramen with one piece of chiarsu pork. It was also filled with all these veggies that shouldn't exist in a real Tonkotsu. I did verify this with the servers/owners if it was instant ramen and they did not deny it. I wish there was a real ramen place in Morgan Hill like Hiro Nori or Nagi Ramen (or the like). I probably will try their other dishes but not the Tonkotsu anymore. read more

On our way to Gilroy Gardens we wanted to stop somewhere quick to eat. Didn't expect to eat anything great, but we're pleasantly blown away by the great variety and quality food here. Wonderful juniors menu, my son had teriyaki chicken and fries with some apple juice and my daughter destroyed some tonkatsu ramen to the amazement of the surrounding tables to see a 3yo eating her weight in noodles. I ordered to go on a weeknight and was told 15 minutes until my order was ready. (I ordered the garlic beef and wonton soup, for a total of about $26). After 15 minutes I went to pick up my food and it was ready on time. The ladies were pretty nice upon my pickup. The garlic beef could have had more beef and could have been a bigger portion size but the wonton soup was a good size. I liked the way both dishes tasted though and I would order them again.
