We have gone to Niko Niko for several years now. We tried several other sushi restaurants and Niko continues to be the best sushi in the area, hands down. It is a sushi restaurant so it is not expected to be cheap, and this particular restaurant serves quality sushi. The prices are at par with the quality, and in the many years we've gone here we have always experienced respectful service. In one or two occasions, the food may be delaye because the place is packed. We made our visit quite late on a Friday night this time and we were promptly seated. Our orders were taken with no delay. Our food arrived earlier than we expected and we each got the food we ordered. We were helped by an older lady who made sure she clarified our orders, and who checked on us routinely. Sushi Niko Niko in Buford, GA was truly the highlight of my day! I've been here a few times before when I used to live closer, so stopping by for lunch while I was near the Mall of Georgia felt like a little throwback moment. The restaurant is now dine-in only (no more hibachi tables), but the experience is still absolutely worth it. The ambiance was warm and cozy ; it honestly felt like walking into a family member's house for lunch, which made the experience even better. The servers were very sweet and attentive, checking in at the right moments and making us feel genuinely welcomed. One thing to note: parking is very limited. The lot is small and tight, so it can be a bit tricky, especially during busy hours. Now let's get into the food. The menu has so many options, from the sushi bar to kitchen meals, plus plenty of lunch specials. They even offer a build-your-own bento box, which is such a win. You can choose from about 9 selections ; 2 picks for $15 or 3 picks for $17. I created my own bento with white rice, chicken katsu, a sushi combo (salmon, crab, shrimp nigiri + 2-piece California roll), and fried shrimp & vegetable tempura. The lunch special also includes soup and salad. The miso soup was very salty; I'd rate that a 3/10. The salad was decent; the ginger dressing leaned more citrusy and very light on ginger, which made it different. I'd give that a 6.5/10. That said... the bento box itself was a solid 10/10. I got all of this for under $20, and every bite hit. I was starving, and this combo absolutely did the job; happy food dance included :) Great value, comforting atmosphere, kind service, and lots of options. Service was impeccable and the quality and taste of the food was outstanding. We visited during a holiday weekend and was advised upfront that there could possibly be a short wait on the food due to a quick onset of diners that arrived at the same time. Every time I come to Atlanta, I go to Sushi Niko. My family loves it here. Amazing rolls with really interesting combinations for sushi lovers -- for me, I always get the hibachi steak and lobster combo. It's so good! The lobster with the ginger sauce is amazing. And the hibachi fried rice! It's the perfect spot in the sense that if some of the group wants steak / hibachi -- they have it, and if the rest want sushi, can go that direction too. For $54 it was not worth the amount of rice they put on the sloppy made spicy tuna rolls that they made along with my hand rolls that were also mostly packed with rice. The chicken fried rice was good, but it wasn't worth my toast. read more

Update: I finally received a phone call with resolution after I posted this review. Terrible experience. I brought 4 people in for lunch. The server forgot our appetizer and brought it out to go left it on the bill and then gave herself a 20% gratuity before giving us the bill. There was no indication anywhere that parties at five would have 20% added we were in a hurry so I left a 20% tip as well. I would've been fine leaving 20% but not 40%. What makes it worse is that I went back in person when I realized what had happened and was told a manager would call me. I've called three additional times after that with no resolution. I was very disappointed with my experience at Sushi Niko Niko. My order was messed up, and when I asked for it to be corrected, the service became rude and unprofessional. The manager told me I was "asking for too much," even though I was simply trying to get my order fixed. What made the situation worse was that she then pressured me to leave a good review despite how poorly she treated me. Being pushed to write a positive review after being spoken to rudely was extremely uncomfortable. We came here on a Friday evening at 6 PM. They were not busy. We were seated in the Habachi side but at a table. (We were not eating hibachi). I should preface this review that I don't eat sushi or care for Japanese food. I ordered Chicken Breast Katsu fried rice. The rice was good and flavorful, but the chicken had a weird taste. It wasn't disgusting, but it wasn't good. It was almost as if the chicken was cooked in old oil. My husband enjoyed his shrimp fried rice. Our server was friendly. They automatically charge 20% tip for large parties, which was fine since our server did a good job. This place can get extremely loud. A huge group of high school kids came in to eat, and it was unbearably loud. Overall, it was an "okay" dining experience. I started to notice a change in the quality of the sushi rolls every other time I came to dine in here. The chefs started being a bit more stingy with the portions of the contents that go into the Tito and fiesta rolls. Sometimes when they don't have seaweed they'd use I think a rice paper substitute which would make the roll fall apart easily when you pick it up. I'm very particular about my sushi, and it's very rare that a sushi restaurant portion size are filling but Sushi Niko Niko gets high regards for that. I ordered the Grand Canyon roll (left) Baked Mussel Roll (middle) Big O Roll (right) The Grand Canyon roll wasn't my favorite roll. Not memorable at all so I don't think I'd get that again. However the baked mussel and the big o roll were delicious! I would say those two are very similar in taste and presentation which I couldn't tell from the pictures so that's just something to keep in mind. Both are cooked sushi too if that is your style. SERVICE 2/5 Service was terrible. Restaurant was fairly busy so I can understand the hustle and bustle but I found it completely rude for our waiter to continuously begin a conversation and then walk off prior to the conclusion. It made simple tasks such as getting the bill drag on longer than it should. The food was great but there service is definitely taking away from the rating. Came here with some friends for lunch while visiting some friends. Sushi rolls are huge and they come with generous slices of thick fish. While I did enjoy the rolls I had, I did not like the eel. It was chewy. I ordered the Tito roll and the Verizon roll. The Tito Roll had shrimp tempura, cucumber, crab, avocado on the inside. It was topped with avocado, eel, mango, and baked seafood salad. The seafood salad included shrimp, mussel, scallop, lobster, and crab. It was then finished with roe, scallion, seaweed powder and sauce. It tasted just okay. The seafood salad did not consist of what the menu said. I definitely only tasted and saw crab and shrimp. The Verizon roll had eel, tuna, salmon and yellowtail on the top and spicy tuna and avocado on the inside. Topped with a special sauce. This one was okay as well. I don't remember what rolls my friends ordered, but they enjoyed. My other friend is a vegetarian. He ordered veggie fried rice. After a few bites he discovered pieces of chicken! When he told our waitress, she looked and said, "Yeah, I see it. I'm not even going to try to argue." Argue? Last I checked we are customers. She brought it back to the kitchen and then came back to us and told us that the chef tried just taking the chicken out, and she convinced him not to and to make a new order of veggie fried rice. Umm, that's what should be done in the first place! The first order and the second order of fried rice came out WAY before any of the sushi rolls. Sushi Niko Niko is one of my friends' favorite sushi spots. After much hesitation on my end, I finally agreed to check this place out with them last week. We came in and were directed to sit literally a feet apart from the table next to us while there were several clean tables around us. We asked to move a couple times and was denied before another lady said okay. Needless to say, social distancing is not really enforced here. However, the staff are wearing masks and a couple bottles of hand sanitizers are placed near the entrances. Looking around the restaurant, there were a great deal of dirty/used empty tables with plates stacked. Seems to me like they were short staffed that day. The inside decor is nice with some oddities here and there (i.e. the statue of a turtle holding drinks while staring us down while we ate LOL). Also, the tables are kind of sticky. Rolls: * Crunch Tiger Roll ($13.95) * Verizon Roll ($13.95) * Rainbow Roll ($12.95) * Mall of GA Roll ($13.95) Crunch Tiger Roll and Verizon Roll were my two favorites of the four we tried. The pieces of fish are layered on pretty thickkk. Fish quality is okay but if you want to play it safe, order sushi rolls with sauces (i.e. eel sauce, spicy mayo or wasabi mayo). The rolls are pretty big so each piece took two bites for me. After reading the Yelp reviews, I came in with low expectations especially in terms of the service. Many yelpers say the sushi is great, but the service is not so much. Our server was really nice but the first lady that greeted us wasn't very accommodating. In the end, I'd have to agree with the general consensus. The sushi roll quality is good. You'll get the best bang for your buck here. When asked about food items on the menu, wait staff didn't know what they were. Even the manager didn't know! We ended up using Google! One person at our table got food. It took another 30+ minutes for mine to come. The other person didn't get her food an hour or so later! When her food did arrive, it wasn't right. Wait staff ignored us. Hands down Niko Niko is my favorite sushi place! A friend introduced me to this gem years ago and I've been coming ever since! Not only do they have sushi, but there is also a hibachi! I personally haven't tried the hibachi because I'm so hooked on the sushi lol. However, we did try something new today and decided on the Buddy Prince roll and Basil pesto roll. They were both delicious; stacked with so much protein and flavor. Every time I come I have to have the Tito roll (pictured in the middle)..it has all of my favorites-shrimp, crab, scallops, eel, mango, and avocado. The service here is horrible. We ordered takeout on a Monday night. When I went to pick up the order I was waiting by the door for the greeter. A waitress yelled at me across the room while serving a table asking what I wanted. I told her I was picking up an order and gave the name. She said "no takeout leave". When I tried to get to the bottom of the situation she just kept yelling "leave leave we busy" while walking away. The place was maybe 1/3 full on a Monday night. Have been coming here for years and except for hit or miss service, the food is pretty consistently good. My issue with the last visit is when I received the check, I noticed a 2.00 service charge for credit card use. It was automatically added and no one asked if we would be paying by CC or Cash. If someone thinks adding surcharges on our bills is going to win customers, check with California and see how that is working out for them. It's bad enough that sweet tea is more than 3.50. The food was DELICIOUS and the presentation was top notch!! With that said, my issue was this: When our server came over she took an order sheet from her apron with her bare hands, placed it on the table and then wrote on it with the pen that she'd been sharing with her customers. Then passed it to another gentleman in the sushi prep area. He grabbed it with his bare hands, sat it on the prep counter and then prepared the order bare-handed as well. When finished making the dish he then placed the order on the countertop, grabbed the dirty order sheet, and placed that on top of one of the meals and grabbed the next order sheet. They did this with about 80% of the dishes they prepared. That's entirely too much cross contamination for me, and I've worked in multiple restaurants as both a cook and a server. Then when I expressed my discontent to the server she seemed annoyed and basically told me that if I'd wanted that particular dish remade that it would "take a ling time", mind you we'd been there almost an hour before our food came out. And she acted kind of annoyed like I was nitpicking. I'd been there before and had a different server and wasn't paying as close attention to the food prep. As I said, the food was always great. But this experience has me exercising caution. I was most upset that the food the guy put the order sheet in was the biggest, best-looking dish in our order. They need to change some of their food prep & safety practices. read more

The service when inside is mid, our last time going our server wasn't around at all and we had to wait for our check after 20 minutes but the food made up for it.
