The Buford Kani House was an absolute delight to work with catering our teacher appreciation lunch today. WOW. The food was delicious and plentiful, they were able to work with our budget (we are a volunteer non-profit), and we just couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. This is the worst hibachi restaurant I've ever been to. The noodles tasted awful, and the chef's skills and service were both disappointing. My sister was seated a bit farther, and the chef just completely skipped her plate. When we asked about it, he said, "You should lift your plate to me--how can I reach your corner position?" We were shocked. If that was the expectation, he should have clearly said so from the beginning. When we checked out, we mentioned this issue to the manager. We catered a Staff Appreciation luncheon for Pucketts Mill Elementary and it was fantastic! The teachers said this was the BEST ONE THEY HAVE EVER HAD!!! Not only was the food absolutely amazing, the customer service was incredible. I plan a lot of conferences and I will have to say it was truly a pleasure to work with Tony, the General Manager. He was knowledgeable, hospitable and very accommodating of all of our requests. He asked all the right questions and anticipated our needs. Best yet he didn't say no to a single request and worked hard to find a solution or alternative to anything I asked for. He's phenomenal and most definitely an asset to Kani House. We had an 8pm reservation. When we sat down we were placed in a back area near the wait staff area and high chair storage. Table area next to us sat after us and had quicker service. Our full meal was not complete until 9:30pm. There was no chef engagement or entertainment...there was at other tables. One of the main reasons for going to a place like this is that. This chef seemed tired...he took a very long time to cook each food item. Other tables chefs were cooking multiple foods simultaneously. The food was then much colder but also bland. When we asked for a manager, Toni Phan came over and was argumentative. He stated we were not being honest...he stated every chef cooks and does the same...which you could clearly see was not true. He placed his hand on his hip and dismissed our issues. He berated us and thought it was funny. The grill was not real clean before or after cooking. Two out of the three of us got sick after. Also, I asked for to go containers for the sauce. The waiter brought over 3 and gave them to my brother (who did not ask but wanted them, started filling his up). When I asked the waiter for mine he said he gave them to him and to get one from him. When the manager saw us before leaving he continued taunting us. I've been to Kani house a few times now. It's a hibachi and sushi restaurant. My husband literally loves all their sushi rolls. First time we went to this restaurant we tried their hibachi experience. That was really nicely done and I had their shrimp platter with fried rice and miso soup and salad as well. But we also shared a sushi roll in the beginning. The next 3 or 4 times we stuck with sushi side since we wanted to try their rolls. My son likes their shrimp hibachi kids option. He likes to order also the Japanese soda since the bottle is so cool for him. The employees are so nice to my son and i truly appreciate that. The service at this restaurant is nice and efficient. It's a nice traditional hibachi and sushi restaurant with plenty of seating. read more

We eat at hibachi styke steak houses for all of our special occasions. Tonight we celebrated our anniversary with the absolutely best hibachi meal we've ever had. I had the Chef Special and my wife had the Kani Special. Between the two of us we had Filet mignon, chicken, shrimp, scallops, fantastic fresh vegetables on the grill, and fried rice. We started with a very nice soup and a small side salad with a tasty ginger dressing. David is the most talented hibachi chef we have ever seen. He does all the normal things like the volcano and the similarly flashy things that all the chefs do, but he adds just an extra flair to everything he does. He also knows how to perfectly season and cook each item that he serves you. I would tell the owners and management of this restaurant to keep him very very happy because he will bring the customers returning to your restaurant. Then to send us home with something sweet, we each had a cup of sherbet. We will definitely be back, especially if David is our chef. read more

We had a good time here. We had our favorite hibachi place back where we used to live so now we've been looking for a new one near us. We saw this place one day and finally decided to try it. When we arrived we put our names on the list and waited for about 15min. We were called and seated with a big and nice family that were celebrating some birthdays. The waitress came to take our drink order. It took a while for her to come back with the waters. Then she took our food order. After about 10 min she brought our soups and then the salads. The chicken soup was pretty good, very similar to what we're used to. The only thing is that we didn't get one of those Japanese soup spoon and we had to use a regular spoon to drink the soup. Yeah I know not a big deal but based on the size of the soup cup and the spoon, it wasn't very easy to do so. I guess we were supposed to drink the soup from the cup, I guess?. Anyway not really a big deal, just would be better with the proper spoon. The salad was pretty good. Their ginger dressing is more to the sweet side. I liked it but my husband didn't. I ate both of our salads because for me the salad dressing was very good. The chef arrived not long after. He was a nice guy and made the show very enjoyable. My husband got the hibachi filet and I got the vegetables. The chef asked if I was vegan and I told him I just wanted to eat some more veggies that night. He began to cook and he made my rice first because I didn't want eggs in it. My rice and the veggies were very good! I also tried my husband's filet and it was amazing! Cooked just right! Definitely getting more next time. One thing we didn't like that much was the sauces. They are too sweet. I usually love yumyum sauce but I didn't like theirs so I sat it aside. It was too sweet. I'm used to a more creamy and savory yumyum sauce. The ginger sauce was also too sweet and watery. Not our favorite. The sorbet was very good. And I was very excited that it was included. The ambiance and the place needs to be updated. It looks a little old and cramped. Overall we had a good time. The food was good, just the sauces weren't what we expected. read more

I had a spicy scallop roll- again small for the price & another $14 roll that was super small & nothing special. Was with a group, a big menu & we all just chose to have our meeting/conversation. 7/5/25 @ 1930hrs, Kani House has always been a special place for us to enjoy dinner until now. We lived locally and went 1x week, schedules changed it went to 2x a month and then 1x month due to moving out of the area. Because KH has been special for many reasons, I even proposed to my fiancé there. The entire staff helped make it a special moment. Planning was perfect. Tonight as usual we asked to be sat at a specific chef's table as he has always cooked for us. We were told by a young man at the front that the wait would be about 30 minutes. I agreed and said we would wait outside on the new benches. The young man said while pounding his finger on the counter: "no you must wait inside the restaurant"! My fiancé was taken back by his aggressive demeanor. At that time a tall thin gentleman (named Tony) appeared and asked if we had been helped. I stated we were waiting for a specific chef and were going to wait outside. Tony then said it was going to be 1.5hrs before we were sat. I then said we've never known to wait 1.5hrs and Tony says, you don't come on the weekend do you? I explained we usually come on Thursday and Tony in a very sarcastic tone says: "that's not a weekend day is it?" I then told him not to belittle me and he then clapped his hands in my face and says "you're not understanding or listening". At that time is when I explained that he was being less than professional and that we have never experienced this type of customer service at KH. Tony then said: while fanning his hand, "then you're welcome to leave". I then asked for a manager and he said he was the manager. I then asked for the owner and Tony said he owned the restaurant as well and if I didn't like the wait policy he didn't know what to tell me. I then asked why the new benches were added outside if patrons were not allowed to wait there. Tony then said they were added for children to play on. He then later contradicted himself and said patrons do wait at the benches and he knows this because he laid the grass and installed the benches. Several things have been learned: Tony does not own KH: Young Paik does. Tony did not install the outside benches and grass. Tony is a manager and the rudest, most disrespectful, condescending, belittling, sarcastic, unprofessional manager I've ever dealt with as well as being less than truthful. Tony is definitely not an example for any employee to follow. Tony does not appreciate long term patron loyalty. The food is always exceptional. Staff is always welcoming and respectful and know our order by heart. Tony unfortunately has ruined this for us. Our special place is no longer special. Imagine spending over $7000 over four years and this is how you're treated. We highly recommend the food - not management. read more

Our friends wanted to go to Kani House after an event. We had a reservation for ten and changed it to eight when part of our group couldn't make it anymore. The staff seemed a bit ticked off by this but seated us anyway after a short wait. The restaurant is big but wasn't as clean as I'd hoped. The bathroom needed attention and the floors looked dirty. Our group of eight was the only one at our table for the majority of our meal. Our chef was pleasant and entertaining and our server was pretty attentive. We all ordered hibachi combos with varying proteins. I ordered scallops and brown rice. The combo came with soup, choice of fried rice or steamed rice, veggies, and choice of sorbet or vanilla ice cream. I asked for miso soup instead of what's normally offered and they accommodated. I also chose brown rice and vanilla ice cream. The serving was generous. I was hungry so ate all of it, but my son had leftovers to take home. Delicious food! My favorite sushi roll is the crazy roll, but then again, I'm a low risk sushi eater. And their chicken soup soothes the soul it's so good and the perfect prequel to dinner. This time I had the yum yum shrimp and they were just that-yummy! My go to appetizer is the bam bam scallops (the shrimp are good too). The decor could use some updating and the staff member we had on the grill was very shy and underwhelming for what we typically see at a hibachi restaurant but overall everything else was good. Food portions seemed very small; I got less than a handful of rice and had to order extra from the kitchen (and additional up charge to a $30+ meal). The food was well seasoned and tasted good but I am not used to not having enough rice to finish my meal. The cook was a bit slow so by time the whole meal came together most of the food was cold. I give one star because of the good service and cook. However as for the quality of meat and manager, Hee's customer service gets a zero. She told me that I should have basically made a scene, because I told the manager and server about the meat and filled out a comment card. Didn't hear from anyone so I called three days later and she said why did I wait three days to call. If you want chicken with the tenderloin in your chicken then you will be fine. For the money you pay it should be better quality meat. Hee said she looked at the camera and saw that I took the food home which I did but didn't eat the gross meat. I took it for the veggies and rice and so I could have proof of the meat. I don't recommend this location at all.
