Took a trip to Sushi Nine for the (4th?) time now and finally ordered a different dish. First, I got miso soup which was good but could have been a bit saltier (what can I say, I do love saltier foods). My boyfriend got two rolls- the TNT roll and the Flaming salmon roll. In his words, it was a "10/10!" I ordered the sesame chicken with white rice and it was good! I would rate it a 7/10. It wasn't super groundbreaking, but the flavor was still good. It was pretty filling and I am taking home enough leftovers for another meal. The gyoza was also very good. I think the gyoza was my favorite part of my meal! It was nice and crisp and the sauce was tasty. Apart from the food, the service was good. I wasn't given a refill at all though (luckily I finished my food at the same time as I finished my drink so it ended up working out, but in the event I wanted to keep eating, I would need a refill). The wait staff were all super super helpful, kind, and accommodating! I have nothing bad to say on their service at all. As for the overall vibe of the restaurant, the playlist was super fun and upbeat and almost all songs that I listen to on a daily basis which was super awesome. Looking for a meal before a concert at PNC Arena brought me to Sushi Nine on Western Blvd! Very visible from the outside, they've got a big parking lot in back. Hostess desk up front and a large open dining room, sushi bar to the side. Decor is basic and practical, I'd have to guess that most of the patrons here come from the NC State community. Sushi Nine covers a WIDE variety of Asian eats. Primarily Japanese and Thai but they've even got some Chinese and Vietnamese items on the menu. Their sushi is BOGO and nicely rolled with a good amount of fish and filling. I tried the American Dream and Firecracker roll, good stuff. A longtime hotspot of the NC State Football team, the place - so we were told - apparently got so hot that it burned down some 4-5 years ago, but has since been rebuilt. Despite a new covid wave in the making, it was full. Staff had face covers (aka masks). Service was a bit slow, but Sarah who had briefly gone MIA after the first tea order was very charming and did not shy away from taking bodily risks when trying to pour the very hot refill tea into the cups. The menu did not declare any specific national identity and blended Japanese and Thai food elements. Some of my family and I decided to have lunch at this restaurant after church on Sunday. We did not have reservations, we did a walk-in and was able to get seated right away. Our server greeted us with a smile and was pleasant and professional. We ordered right away. The food ordered for the baby came out right away but it took a little longer than expected for our sushi. We waited approximately 45mins for a table for two. After putting our names on the waitlist I received a text message from the restaurant with a web link to their customer waitlisting site. I checked this spot out last night for the first time with one of my besties and it was a pretty enjoyable experience. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Monday evening and it was really busy! All patio tables were full and inside was pretty filled, too. Service was definitely on the slow side as the bartender was taking care of the bar and about 4 or 5 high top tables, but she was very friendly and our orders came out just right. Onto the sushi: We both ordered the Red Dragon with eel sauce on the side. It wasn't my favorite roll, mostly because of the giant piece of tuna on top. Normally I love sashimi style fish on top of a roll, but it was the kind that you can tell has been dyed to make it that super pinky color that just isn't natural for sushi grade tuna. The taste was also inconsistent - some pieces were far more pungent than others. I also got the Scottish roll which had salmon and avocado inside with salmon and thin slices of lemon on top. Really fresh and tasty! My friend also got the Machu Pichu roll, which I considered ordering, but was afraid would be too sweet with the mango and pineapple. Well, lemme tell you, it looked amazing and she said it tasted just as good as it looked. There was a nice salmon ceviche on top, dressed in cherry tomato and herbs, and she said it was nicely spicy. I would definitely order that next time. Sushi is BOGO, so that kept our bills very reasonable. My tab was $20 before tip, which also included a $4 draft Sapporo. They have different drink specials for each night of the week, but they aren't consistent with what you find online, just FYI. Overall, I would go back knowing that it's BOGO sushi and a popular spot. This is my first time back at this restaurant since the fire. It looks totally different. Way bigger inside and so much natural light. It was dark inside before. There is also a cool fish tank with colorful fish near the door when you enter restaurant. There is plenty of parking in the rear of the business and street parking.
