Very positive and made sure I was taken care of. I ordered sashimi and nigiri and a couple of drinks. The fish was good, but the nigiri had a bit too much rice which made it difficult to fit into my mouth. But I'd rather have too much, than too little. And they do have scallop nigiri btw, for all the other hotate lovers. The drinks are really good. The Nina Simone surpassed my expectations. Peeerrrfectly made, amazing foam. Like, you're gunna have to taste it and feel the texture to understand. I also got the ginger something... my favorite out of the two because I love ginger. Parking was also easy for downtown. Really good (affordable) sushi! My brother and I came here for dinner and really enjoyed our meal. We made great use of the bogo sushi roll deals getting 6 different ones to try! For anyone who's a NC State fan (go Heels) you would really appreciate the names of all their sushi rolls- they are all related to NC State. They are pretty large rolls which I also really appreciate especially with the bogo offer. The inside is decorated pretty cool, and they have a nice outdoor patio which I prefer when it's nice weather. Our waiter was so kind and so attentive. I've been here a few times in the past so it's review time. Of course they have bogo rolls daily even on their speciality rolls. It was also half off martinis. I started with the ray Charles which was good but on the sour side, I also did the Duke which was much better. We did the fire and ice roll and guns n roses. The gun and roses was a deep fried roll and it was spicy. Not the best deep fried roll I had but it was enough. The fire and ice which was a shrimp tempura type roll was good though. We sat outside, b/c the weather was beautiful and the servers were awesome. I've been coming here for years. I have recently noticed that the crowd is slowly getting lighter. The menu has changed. The restaurant is always clean. The staff is always great. This time, along with when I went about 1-2 months ago, they didn't have the white sauce (yum yum sauce/spicy Mayo, whatever you want to call it.) VERY DISAPPOINTING. Horrible Service!! I've been coming here for years and the level of service is just getting worse. It was a great atmosphere and am glad it appeals to a majority of people who might not be used to sushi but would not consider it to be flavorful or fresh. The eel sauce felt like it was watered down and insanely sweet for what it should be. The spicy mayo didn't have any spice, it just felt like slightly more red Kewpie mayo with not much flavor. Honestly this place is always pretty terrible anytime I've been. I've only been more than once because friends have invited me for a birthday or something. The sushi is pretty low quality. The service is sub par and when I decided to try something that wasn't sushi on my recent time there, it was also bad. I got the chicken or pork(can't remember) katsu and there was barely any meat in it. I had a few pieces that were literally just breading. It was supposed to come with veggies, which was never brought out and then when I asked for my veggies and had gotten them, I had regretted asking for it. It was literally just boiled vegetables that had absolutely no seasoning, not even salt and pepper. The food here is consistently bad and so is the service. At least they're consistent. read more

Our server took our order. someone else delivered our food, she never checked back on us, we were out of drinks. we are out of sauces, had to get up and find her just to pay the check, at which point we found her at the bar talking to someone I assume was her boyfriend. When I asked to see the manager, the bartender told me he was the manager, I explained to him what happened, at which point our server returned with my check, the manager turned around and walked away without any response to the situation. Service was not very attentive overall although they re-made my drink. Food was not great. I didn't even bother to take pics because it was that underwhelming although I had to take a pic of the "presentation" of the oyako-don. The sauces for this and the katsudon were overly salty. Both were visually unappealing...reminds me of cafeteria food. Quality of the sushi was also not there for a place that has sushi in their name. It was a few steps down from supermarket sushi but you wouldn't know it if it's drenched in sauces. Sushi rolls are BOGO. Our waiter made sure to point out that gratuities should be calculated BEFORE the discount. WTH??? I have no issues tipping well for excellent service but that was blatant. I'm not sure when their POS system was changed but why can't sushi & everything else be on the same ticket. It really seems as if you & your staff are getting over on your customers. Two tickets means twice the tip. I am aware that there's an edit option so you don't have to tip twice but why put people in that predicament to begin with. I love coming but here lately servers can't divide a ticket evenly & to tell a customer oh it's only $4 dollars or so I have that in my pocket if you really need it is utterly ridiculous! What if that money was extremely needed. Who knows others money habits & that shouldn't matter, if the money is owed give it to the customer. Make sure the ticket is correct.
