Great Omakase! Formalities first: Be aware that they require a minimum spend of $80pp, even if you're not getting the omakase. It just so happens that their 10pc sushi and tuna roll omakase is $80, however, so you may as well get that -- it's worth every penny! The bluefin tuna is honestly the best I have had outside Japan; I believe they import all of their fish from there, and the tuna was especially good. The uni was also soooo creamy. While not part of the omakase meal, I had to try my fave hamachi just to see, and that was amazing too. This place honestly exceeded my expectations, and the quality of the fish was worth the price. Sushi Nozomi is the closest you'll get to eating sushi from Japan. Their fish is so fresh and they do not skimp on portions. They serve a lot more variety compared to some of the other sushi places I've been to. I personally loved their negi yellowtail The inside has traditional tatami seating and regular tables and chairs which is a super cool cultural touch in my opinion. The food here is really good - quality of the sushi is outstanding. We were the only non-Japanese customers here, which makes it feel even more legit lol. We got the chicken and beef teriyaki for the kids, which they liked. It came in the bento box. Sushi for the adults and it was great. We ordered the usual amount and I was so shocked at the price. It was 450! For lunch. For two adults and two kids. We didn't go overboard with the food, but wow, that is pricey. Food 4 - Great sushi, no complaints at all. Beautiful presentation and well put together meal. Service 2 - Good service but nothing special. I just finished a basketball game and they didn't really want me sitting at the sushi bar as they reminded me there was a minimum spend to sit there even though it was empty. I ended up ordering the Chirashi which definitely cleared their minimum dollar amount. They also forgot to ask me if I wanted anything to drink, perhaps they thought I couldn't afford it or they were in a rush because it was late. Either way, not the great service that expect from sushi restaurants of this price level. Ambiance 3 - Restaurant is very dark. Not my preference for a sushi restaurant, but they did have a few of the rooms where parties were sitting on the floor mats with their shoes off, so if you are into that, this a place you can smell your coworkers feet while eating raw fish. Great place to come for sushi in Torrance. I came by on a weekday lunch and there was no wait for a party of 4. The lunch set comes with salad as well as miso soup. There's around 10-12 tables inside the restaurant so it's not the biggest but a cozy size with a number of seats at the bar as well. The fish tastes really fresh in the sashimi set and I really enjoyed the tuna and salmon. I'm usually not the biggest fan of octopus sashimi but the octopus here was not bad and not overly chewy. The sashimi set is a great light lunch to have and the miso soup and salad are a good pairing with the fish. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back here when I'm in Torrance. read more

Last minute dinner date and needed to find a Japanese sushi restaurant closeby in Torrance that opened past 8pm and found this place through Google Maps. Called them at lunchtime for a reservation which i got and they said that last food orders was 845pm so that was perfect. Couldnt get the sushi bar but table seating was perfect and intimate. Our server was friendly and we ordered right away. Prices were a little on the high side but its a dinner date so live a little Ordered a couple small appetizers and the Sushi Dinner deluxe for myself and the Sushi Omakase for my date that featured speciality fish of the day (chefs choice). Everything was fresh and high quality, delicious and authentic. Stayed still closing time and didnt feel rushed at all.....Thank you for such a nice memorable dinner for the both of us. This was a last minute dinner find this evening. We did not have a reservation but they were able to seat us at the bar pretty quickly. A friend and I each ordered the Omakase (10 pcs of sushi, a roll and miso soup each), 2 beers and mineral waters each. The total was $225 before tip. We haven't been here in a while but we definitely will make sure we come more often. We used to be regulars, but even now the amazing servers still remember our go to faves. The bluefin bone is a must try. It sells quickly so you need to reserve it. First you scrape off some (not all) of the sashimi. Then, it gets cooked and you get the best fish jerky-type experience. Finally, the bones are cut and you slurp down the delish marrow. The sushi selection is always great and it isn't uncommon to see a new one you have never tried before. Thursday, 1pm. About 3 days ago. Surprisingly, less than half full. Met a friend for lunch. I ordered a lunch combo. For the price, it seemed like it was not very much food. Almost like a child's plate. I have been going to this restaurant for a very long time (possibly 15 years or more) and it used to be one of my favorites in the South Bay. Now it seems like a lot has changed. Perhaps it is under new ownership. Service wasn't bad but it was minimal for the amount of tip you include at 18% or more. In addition, their calculation for tip is based on the total amount including tax. Technically, the tip should be calculated on the food only, before adding the tax. When restaurants do this, they are taking advantage of the customer as they don't expect the customer to notice. If they are calculating the tip including the tax portion, I hope they are giving a tip to the IRS. Maybe they will be audited one day and they will have to pay more taxes. I think it would be difficult for me to return to this restaurant after this experience. Maybe this explains why the restaurant was less than half full. read more

We all agreed the uni udon was the best dish -- decent pieces of uni, lots of roe, sauce was super decadent and they give you a bowl of rice to eat with the sauce after you finish the udon. We also got the sashimi dinner for 4 ppl to share, but was disappointed in the seafood cuts we got, probably better to just order what you want to eat. Rolls were fine, as expected. It's been years since I've been back here, and previously, I didn't have much to say about this restaurant. However, this time around, I can say otherwise. I was going to come here for the omakase at lunch for my friend's birthday, but due to her baby being sick, we opted for takeout, which I never like to do for omakase especially. The staff was super kind about the last min reservation cancellation, and told us the takeout would be ready in 20 min. Now the food. The omakase came with miso soup, 10 sushi pieces (including ikura and uni), and a negi-toro cut roll. The takeout presentation was beautiful (see pic). My new favorite sushi restaurant. It's a cozy little place, but they have private rooms for hosting your parties. Make a reservation to avoid any waiting. Our servers, Toshi and Elissa, took good care of us all night. We indulged in my go-to dishes like Uni and Ankimo; they even have meat skewers, softshell crab, and more. Plus, they offer sake, beer, wine, and other fun cocktails. I couldn't find Highball on the menu, but they whipped one up for me - now that's what I call service! The Uni was so fresh and had the perfect touch of sweetness, so naturally, we had to order more. The Ankimo was served in a bowl and felt like a main course. I won't sugarcoat it--the prices are on the higher side--our bill came to nearly $300 for the two of us. But let me tell you, it was totally worth every penny! After moving to Torrance for several years and trying 100 Japanese restaurants in the area, I finally came here - I must admit this is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. The service is amazing. They even have a private booth that has traditional Japanese seating with a minimum spending (I think it was around $200). And spending this mischief at Nozomi is worth every penny. They offer a lot of dishes not offered in other places, like Carpaccio, which is like Ceviche, but instead of sour and refreshing, it's fragrant herbs, rich sesame oil, and slightly baked and tender. Carpaccio is also perfect for pairing with white wine. Their house white wine was perfect. Other noteworthy things: - when you order uni pasta, they add rice after so soak up the rich creamy uni sauce. - the uni egg tart is cheaper than other places, AND they provide more uni - they have a HUGE selection of sashimi / fish selection that you do not see in other restaurants Service 10/10 Food taste 10/10 Food portion 12/10 Food selection 12/10 I would rate 6 stars if I can. read more

The portion looks small but it was perfect. The restaurant is clean and servers are very friendly. Recently dined in for dinner and had a great experience. However, I was a bit bummed that they don't offer the regular chirashi for dinner (only premium). We ordered the large sashimi platter, a la carte sushi, uni cream udon, and tempura udon. I usually don't like creamy dishes but the uni udon was just perfect and had a good amount of uni inside. My wife and I have always done sushi for our birthdays and anniversary. Sure, it kinda got off track with the pandemic and the kids being born, but that's been our goal. Our go-to used to be K-Zo in Culver City where the great Keizo Ishida would sling scallops three ways in an omakase course which included a variety of uncommon items like nodoguro (black throat), kurage (jellyfish), and ankimo (monkfish liver). Keizo put up his headband and took to Insta like all the great itamae seem to, so we were left without a place to go. We found Sushi Nozomi. About twice as far from our house, but we were intrigued by some things we heard about the uni (sea urchin). We sat at the sushi bar and rejected omakase in favor of working our way down the whole menu. Along with the aforementioned items, hamachi toro (yellowtail tuna belly), maguro toro (blue fin tuna belly), kanpachi (amberjack), aji (Spanish mackerel), kohada (shad), kani (snow crab), anago & unagi (fresh & salt water eel), tamago (sushi omelette) & ikura (salmon roe) with everything washed down by a Hakkaisan which hit the spot. We sat with one of the associated itamae. First to see how they each worked, but most importantly, so that we had a clear view behind the glass of the long part of the counter and we could delight in the preparation of everything. The uni was spectacular. The best that we've had since visiting Yasuda's sushi bar in Tokyo a decade ago. Uni can be extremely divisive and a lot of that is based on where and when you happen to order it. This is my new standard. If you don't like uni, try it here. If you still don't like it, then you will never like it. The kurage was in slightly thicker slices which lent a pleasant sort of crunch. It came with two different sauces. A sort of mustard base that I've never had before and a ponzu. I preferred the ponzu, but we ate most of the kurage without anything. I have heard that tamago -- while it's never anyone's favorite dish -- is an excellent indicator of how good a sushi place is. The tamago here was well blended structurally, formed into a thicker slice (which provided a pleasant texture), in perfect proportion with the rice (egg overhanging significantly on both ends), and that delicate sweetness. They passed that test very nicely. I have also used gari -- the ginger -- as another indicator. The gari was milder than in some places. Excellent as a palate cleanser between meals and delicious on its own. I was impressed by how lightly wasabi was used. I will always try a few pieces before asking itamae to go lighter on wasabi. Wasabi is often used to mask the taste of the fish if it isn't absolutely fresh. I find that I'm sensitive to it and it makes it harder for me to enjoy the taste that I go to a sushi bar for. I never had to ask. The service is traditional. As with anywhere, you order sushi and sashimi from the itamae and you order everything else from the waitresses. Tea was promptly refilled without us having to ask for it. We were not rushed through the experience. Everything was well paced for a two hour meal which ran until closing time. For comparison with K-Zo, we felt that the uni was better and everything else was on par or slightly better. We will certainly return. Normally, March -- for my wife's birthday -- would be the plan, but we have a trip to Japan planned which we are saving for, so it may end up being later in the year. read more

LA is full of sushi spots and very good ones at that. I came here on a recommendation from close friends. We opted for the sushi omakase. I've had my fair share of omakase ranging from the lower end to the higher end. I can truthfully say that for the price point, Nozomi does it extremely well. It was $80 per person (not counting alcohol). The fish was great quality. Each piece was rather generous in size. You could tell the distinct flavors between each fish. Service was excellent. The sushi was very good but the experience was TERRIBLE. We arrived for lunch at 1:30 and were told that they close at 2 pm and last call for the kitchen was at 1:40. We ordered quickly. They made us feel unwelcome from the beginning, no table setup and they were in a rush to leave on time (We weren't the only people in the restaurant either). They brought our check at 2, as they wanted to close the register. At 2:10 and while sipping our tea, they cleared our table and TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF. I've worked in restaurants and customer service and never has any restaurant turned the lights off on well paying customers. Honestly, it was humiliating.
