    If you want real Japanese vibes in Torrance, you need to try Waraku Japanese Dine & Bar not your typical sushi spot-- this place feels like a cozy izakaya with home-style Japanese dishes. the sashimi is next level, so fresh it literally melts they even bring fish from Osaka, which explains the quality from kaisendon to unagi egg bowls and crispy karaage, there are so many good options every bite is worth it.

    Waraku is such a fun gem if you're craving simple, thoughtful Japanese food done really well. I stopped by for their lunch special and was pleasantly surprised by how much value and quality they packed into one meal. The set came with the most decadent chawanmushi--silky, savory, and incredibly comforting. I chose the cold soba, and the dipping sauce was beautifully balanced with a deep umami flavor that wasn't overly salty. One small detail that really stood out to me was the wasabi--it tasted fresh, mild, and clean, without that harsh, chemical bite you sometimes get elsewhere. The lunch also included a light side salad with a sesame dressing and a mini negitoro bowl. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and the fish was incredibly fresh--it all felt very intentional and well executed.     This spot is definitely fine dining. The quality of the food really stands out...every bite melts in your mouth. It's light yet filling and packed with flavor. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but completely worth it for the quality you're getting. I had the salmon and yellowtail bowl, and it was incredible. I also tried my sister-in-law's bluefin bowl and my boyfriend's cooked salmon, and honestly, I can't even choose a favorite because each one had its own unique flavor and was equally delicious. From the outside, it looks small, but don't let that fool you there are several room options inside. The customer service was excellent as well. I'm already telling my boyfriend we need to go back.

    I was craving some japanese food, so me and my friends came here after we had just landed at LAX. We arrived around dinner time, and didn't have to wait much at all, practically seated instantly. I ordered the chiraishi bowl and we all got the karaage to share. The restaurant is a bit more upscale and classy, but you can still go regardless of if you're dressed up or not if you're worried about that. The karaage was crispy, hot, and delicious when it came out, and was a good sharing size. The chiraishi bowl was delicious. Every single piece of fish was so yummy and had little to no fishiness along with a good texture. It is definitely a bit on the pricier side, but if you are looking for quality fish, this is another spot that you should come to.

    Came right at opening on Saturday 5:30 PM with a reservation and were seated immediately always a good start. We arrived early and grabbed chestnut soft serve next door, and even at 5:15 there was already a line forming. By opening, about 1/4 the dining room was filled. Maybe 6-7 tables? Right at opening!! By 6:30 I'm pretty sure the whole restaurant was filled and every table was Japanese or Asian families. That's when you know you're in the right place. Food I ordered: Teppanyaki wagyu was so good we ordered a second one, no hesitation. Chu toro bowl: 9/10, beautifully fatty and balanced. Omakase sashimi (7/10, 8 pieces): high quality overall, though 2 cuts didn't quite hit for me. 5 oz steak: 8/10 Toro sashimi: 9/10 Ankimo: 8/10 Pro move: saved the rice from the chu toro bowl to pair with the omakase and steak. Notes for fellow food people: ama ebi doesn't come with a fried head. Jumbo clam was solid (per my date) cuts aren't as big but they are fat square shape. Service was efficient, food came out quickly, and the pacing was smooth despite a full house. Great quality across the board. Total bill was 214? With everything we got not too bad. Yes pricey but other places would've been over 300 easily! Would absolutely return.

    If you're craving a fresh, clean sashimi bowl, this is the spot. I came here Saturday night with a friend and had some of the smoothest, freshest fish I've had in a long time. I ordered the chūtoro bowl (their special), and wow. The fish was incredibly rich and buttery, with that perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture that almost coats your tongue. Super delicate, slightly sweet, and just indulgent in the best way. I ate it way too fast and was genuinely sad when it was gone. The bowl alone didn't quite satisfy me, so I'd definitely recommend adding an appetizer. The takowasa was great, bright, briny, and refreshing. The wasabi wasn't overpowering, which let the octopus really shine. I also really enjoyed the chicken karaage, crispy, juicy, and super comforting. Ask for mayo, they'll happily bring some out. The space itself is beautiful, modern, clean, and relaxed with a solid drink selection. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and yes, even the bathroom was spotless. I really hope this place gets busier because the food absolutely deserves it.

    Was excited to check out this authentic Japanese restaurant, which is known to ship their fish directly from Osaka. Located in a small strip mall in Torrance, parking is free and plenty in the mall lot. Came on a Monday night and did not need to wait for a table for two. Their menu is simple and highlights what everyone is undoubtedly there for, fresh sushi and chirashi bowls, although I did see some hot food options like curry and udon for people who want something cooked. I love my tuna so settled immediately on their special of the day, the Otoro bowl, which was a fair price including complimentary miso soup. Sadly there were not too many pieces of tuna, and while creamy, could not replicate what you can find in the Japanese fish markets. Still was a good meal, just found myself hungry at the end of it.

    The last time I visited this place, it was still called Wadatsumi. I was impressed with their hot dishes then, and I'm still impressed with the hot dishes now. It's a lovely little store retaining the same decor and furnishings. The service is still fine as well. I got the unagi tamago bowl, yellowtail collar, seaweed salad, chawanmushi, Ankimo, and beef curry. The standout was definitely the unagi tamago bowl. Both the eel and the egg were cooked well over a bed of fluffy rice. Great flavors all around and a decent portion size. The yellowtail collar was grilled to spec, crispy skin and flaky meat. There was a hint of fishiness so maybe the fish isn't the absolute best, but still quite good for what you can get in America at this price. The chawanmushi is also good like how I remember it. Made with some dashi so extra flavorful. The seaweed salad is nice if you need some vegetables and comes with a fairly standard Japanese dressing. Ankimo was cooked very well, very soft and served with nice vegetables to pair. I do enjoy the beef curry flavor wise more than a place like coco ichibanya, but it was not the hottest. Definitely a solid place to come to if you're looking for a hot Japanese meal, but I can't speak on the sushi.

    Came here with a couple of friends this past Monday for dinner. We made a reservation for 5:45 pm and honestly thought we probably didn't need it. Turns out it was a good call because shortly after we sat down, the place filled up. Once seated, our server gave us some time to look through the menu. The bara chirashi immediately caught all of our attention. The server mentioned they only had two servings left, so we jumped on it. The other dishes ordered were the 3 kinds bluefin tuna box and the bluefin tuna chutoro and negitoro bowl. Everything was delicious. The bara chirashi was the standout and felt really unique. It had scallops, cubed cuts of bluefin tuna, and salmon roe. The sushi rice was seasoned perfectly and tied everything together. The tuna dishes were also fresh and high quality, exactly what you hope for at a place like this. Service was good throughout the meal. The ambiance is what you would expect from a traditional Japanese restaurant with a mix of tables, bar seating, and booths. We sat in a booth and had no problem holding a normal conversation. We will definitely be back, especially to try the unagi bowl and more of the menu. If you're into chirashi bowls, this place is absolutely worth checking out.

    Place is spacious but we didn't know the place closes super early on Sundays. We got there around 1pm and it closes at 2pm. I just order the poke bowl lunch special. It was filling for a quick meal. Service was attentive but I felt a bit rushed since tables were getting cleaned rapidly next to us. A bit of rush feeling to get us moving. Food is great. Just a quick jolt to eat.

    We had an incredible dinner before heading to a LA Galaxy game. We came in knowing we wanted to try the omakase sashimi and ended up discovering two more amazing dishes. The omakase plate was fresh and beautifully plated. The scallops were sweet and tender. We also tried the chicken karaage, which was fried to crispy perfection. The standout of the night was the rich and tender pork belly that just melted into the flavorful sauce. Paired with a crispy fried soft boiled egg, it created the perfect bite. Service was friendly and inviting. I appreciated our server assisting with a few food allergies as well. We definitely want to visit again.

    I got the chu-toro and negitoro bowl. The bowl was more filling than it looks and the cuts of fish were fatty and fresh. It was a great bowl for a weekend lunch and the service was good despite it being a little busy.

It's very flavorful and tender. Not as amazing as the mussels tart but still worth a try. Chili crab - this put them on the map. SUPER DELICIOUS. It's not what you'd expect from a creation called 'chili crab'. There's no shell to be seen and the crab meat is actually buried underneath. Scoop from the inside out. Tons of flavor and I wished the portion size was doubled. Lamb pappardelle - if you like lamb then you'll love this. Lots of different spices and flavors. It has a very deep flavor profile that makes you appreciate all the work and thought that went into designing this dish. I'd get this again also! Strawberry tiramisu - they brought this out for the birthday celebration. They prepared it in a gigantic bowl. Scooped out a generous portion and plated it right in front of us. First, the restaurant itself is undeniably cute and cozy, tucked away in a corner of Hermosa Beach. Our first impression was honestly great, and we were excited to try it. Our reservation was at 5:00 PM, but when we arrived, the staff was still inside having what looked like a team huddle or group therapy session well past opening time. At first I thought maybe I got the hours wrong and they actually opened at 5:30. Nope -- 5:00 was correct. I understand pre-shift meetings happen. But maybe do the motivational speech at 4:50 instead of making customers stand outside after your posted opening time? They finally opened the doors around 5:10. Once seated, our server introduced himself by saying he was also one of the chefs, and apparently everyone dressed in white both cooks and serves. I didn't really understand the concept, but honestly, I don't care who brings the food as long as the food is good. These are what we ordered: SQUID -- This tasted like it had been marinated directly in seawater. Painfully salty. I genuinely did not understand the dish at all. Boiled squid with egg salad? Why? The portion was tiny, and we were hungry, so we basically used the mussels tart to dilute the salt enough to finish it. MUSSELS TART -- Actually delicious. No complaints here. BISTRO SALAD -- This was honestly shocking. It was SO sour that it was practically inedible. -- we literally take straight lemon shots every morning but this dish was hard to eat. This wasn't "bright acidity." This was weaponized vinegar. Bitter, aggressively sour, and tongue-numbing after one bite. We had to send it back because it was simply not edible. CABBAGE -- Flavor was good overall, but parts of it were so burnt that I genuinely questioned whether it was intentional or someone forgot it existed in the kitchen. Maybe it's culinary art I'm too uncultured to understand. FISH DIANE -- Delicious. No complaints at all. What ultimately made us decide we won't return wasn't even the inconsistent food -- it was the attitude. They still charged us for the salad we literally could not eat after sending it back. Then the couple next to us asked to keep one menu because they planned to order more later. One of the servers told them not to leave it on the table because she didn't want the menu to get dirty. The menu was a single flimsy printed paper menu. Not leather-bound. Not handmade parchment from the 1700s. Just printer paper. The whole experience felt oddly pretentious for a place serving burnt cabbage and acid salad. Some dishes were genuinely good, but the hospitality felt nonexistent and the food was wildly inconsistent. Cute restaurant, but definitely not somewhere we'd return to.

For you see, as I passed the outside of the Artistry a comedian/MC stopped me and explained that the spot was having a comedy night. Truth be told, comedy shows are simply not my choice of sport. However, the MC tried to convince me of the value of the show with an honest attempted that I respected. And thus I paid the 5.00 dollars and entered, I was ready to laugh and hope that the comedians would fulfill the hope. Additionally, entering the Artistry would provide me a lounge to wait for my friend that was coming to pick me up, in about an hour or so. As soon, as I entered the Artistry I was pleasantly surprised. It was a cool, inviting, elegant spot that was hidden from sight. It is the type of place that you only find when the winds of chance whisk you into a moment that impact and build your life. I will be the first one to admit that the winds of chance did not take me to Oz from Kansas, but they did take me to a welcome respite of people and opportunity. And at a more grounded level, I know now where to go if I have a wine-friend visit or I need a non-rowdy bar for peace and quiet. The place is a mash-up of modern appliances, contemporary art and pieces from days gone by. It is both eclectic and like a backyard sale of a Hollywood starlet. She accumulated trophies and bobbles of worth and next to the mat they are displayed on, you also see the junk she accumulated thought-out her life. In one of my pictures I show a tv that played maybe operatic music. It was signing with word that hit a deep range. This picture also has one of those fans that no longer have blades. The wind comes from an oval shape--- modern science. Another picture shows a Native American picture with a full headdress. It would be dynamic on a runway. Another picture shows a painting that seemed to be one of those famous food stills. So yeah, the collection that makes up the them decor is broad. I can only describe it as a wine cellar that was decorated by three friends, each of them with their own style. The friends were also young, like early 20s, so their taste and vision had not crystallized within them so there was no way they could take their three styles and make it one song in the same key. I also noticed that the menu had the word with misspelled. The typo added to the magic and hodgepodge of the place. Maria who works there, was a gem, a treasure, and the Hope diamond. I twisted my ankle a bit and it hurt to move, hence the stroll around town and not a hike to reach a top. I asked her to pour me a glass of water because I was sitting down, and getting up to reach the table, would make the pain amp up. She served me water and I apologized for being too needy as a customer who had become a patient. She then asked me if she could move the table closer to me. I said yes. She struggled a bit to move a table that looked like barrel, with a glass atop, and seemed to be full of wine corks, but it might have been just a layer that suggested fullness. She still managed to push the table. Now I could easily stretch and drink water. I thanked her for her work and kindness. And she said something so beautiful at it is core: I am here to serve. Thank you Maria for being of service. I ordered a fruity wine. I am not a wine drinker. The server suggested that one. Once I tasted it, it tasted like juice. The server compared it to a Capri Sun. Yeah, it kind of was. Then I drank more and I did not like it. I asked myself why? Like what specifically made me not like this wine? And all I could come up with was, "it tasted cheap." I felt bad for just describing something as cheap without further detail. Then I saw the bill. The wine was only 10.00 dollars. So it was a cheap wine. I mean right now, given inflation, what cocktail or pour is less than 10:00 dollars? A cheap one. And when I say cheap it does not mean that it lacks richness or attire from a brand name store. When I say that it is cheap I mean that it did not have depth of experience. It was cheap in the way that cheap perfume is, it does not have a layered complicated presence or scent and what it offers is lack of nuance, personality, hype and posture. Like cheap furniture, it's promise and function are soon broken. I would go here and try other wines. And who knows maybe one day I will find one that makes me a wine convert.

The lasagna was layered generously, with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and perfectly melted cheese on top. Each bite had depth and warmth, without tasting overly heavy. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down and really enjoy it. Jamie's mozzarella balls were a fun way to start the meal. Lightly crisp on the outside and gooey inside, they paired really well with the marinara sauce, which had a bright, fresh tomato flavor. They disappeared from the plate quickly. The dining room has a welcoming, neighborhood feel. It's lively but still comfortable, and you can tell many guests are regulars. The team working there brought a cheerful energy and checked in just enough to make sure everything was going smoothly. Mama D's delivers hearty, satisfying Italian comfort food in a setting that feels genuinely inviting. I'd happily return when I'm craving a classic pasta night done right.

The shrimp and chicken fajitas we ordered were amazing along with everything else we ordered! The portions are generous, and you definitely get a great amount of food for what you order. The service was also wonderful; our waitress was so kind and attentive, and I only wish I remembered her name. Served with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole. I ordered the shredded beef taquitos and they were delicious. Perfectly crunchy and went so well with the salsa, guacamole and sour cream. SHRIMP BURRITO: Shrimp sauteed in salsa de la casa & pico de gallo, rice, beans, and cheese. Served with sour cream and guacamole on the side. The burrito is packed with shrimps and the rice and beans are flavorful. Top it off with some salsa, sour cream, and guacamole and you have yourself a party. Overall, Mezontle is a great spot to come for lunch or dinner. Delicious Mexican food and the service is great. The staff here is very friendly.
