Finally had the chance to stop by and I am so glad I did! Everything was great, the customer service, the ease of ordering and especially the food! Of course I wanted tried the Katsu, so I got it in the soup and the sandwich, and I cannot say which was better, it was just that good. The soup was very filling with a sweet and spicy taste. There so many ways the katsu is served, I can't wait to try all of them!

Lots of factors came together as to how I ended up here. One - hAngerism after a Costco run, Two - been to their El Segundo location and had a good run, and thought I'd like to try this place eventually. Three - my elders whom I served as their chauffeur for the day wanted pho from a couple of doors away (but that was a NO for me - nothing against that restaurant. I just wasn't in the mood for their dishes.) So in reality, timing was all it was. But I knew exactly what I wanted soon as I spotted it on the menu: chicken katsu curry plate with curry. Only one other customer waiting (given it was an odd between-lunch-and-dinner hour) so I was able to place my order right away and waited patiently. I should have taken pictures of the inside, but know that they maximized the space nicely without crowding the chairs and tables. Wasn't long before I got my food, and with perfect timing playing a role, my elders were ready with their orders op down the way as well. I'm incredibly impressed with their packaging. It was like opening a present! The curry was secured in a sealed cup (love this!) and the rest of the goodies were nicely plated in this to-go container. It was almost too pretty to eat! But you know.. hAngerism, as I pointed out earlier... Katsu chicken was breaded lightly fried to perfection. Seasoning was also nicely done. Dipping each bite in the curry sauce takes it to a higher level. Sauce wasn't overwhelming, it was just the right balance of very slight sweet and savory. Mac salad was an awesome palate cleanser. I didn't have the salad, but because it was a big plate. I had leftovers and included the salad in that second meal. Still fresh and delicious. Dressing was light. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. Very little interaction, but food came out fast combined with service with a smile = always a plus. VALUE: 5. PARKING: Shared with others. Could get crowded. Plan accordingly. OVERALL: 4.5. They can bank on a second visit. Planning on scoring apps with my main dish then.

Wish I took a picture of the food prior, was too hungry. So good, super authentic will be coming back. If you are close def try.

So close to 5 stars except for the mac salad. It was lacking flavoring and super dry, however I did LOVE the chicken katsu dipped in the curry sauce. It was very thin and flaky breading. Curry was not too salty and perfect thickness. I loved the strawberry cream sandwich but the strawberries were kinda tiny for the sandwich ratio. I ordered to go so I didn't get a chance to experience the service. Ambiance looks clean. I will come back to dine in next time.

Review #891 2025-063 Food Order: Kamikaze Chicken Sandwich (chicken katsu, coleslaw, pickles, spicy aioli, brioche bun) with Waffle Fries $13.00 Spicy Tuna Yubu Pocket $4.00 Egg Salad Yubu Pocket $3.50 I've had Katsu Bar bookmarked for a while since I noticed that they were in the same plaza as Sharetea (refer to Review #393), replacing defunct Burgerim (they were not bad; however, they offered some form of monetary compensation for positive feedback so take reviews with a grain of salt), but haven't been in because I'm not usually hungry but thirsty when I'm in the area. When my office started offering 3xTs (Thursday Takeout Treats), I added Katsu Bar on the rotation. The restaurant sits on the south side of the strip mall off the corner of Crenshaw & Lomita Blvds., depending on which direction you're coming from, it can be challenging to enter/exit because it's a very, very busy corner, especially after a large apartment complex that's built recently across the (north side) street. While there's decent amount of parking, it can get filled; I have parked across the street at Torrance Crossroads. I haven't dined in yet, though there's plenty of seats & the interior didn't change much; Katsu Bar kept the former's furniture & cleaned up their logo & counter word art, & added a long family-style counter table in the center of the dining room. There's a wall collection of license plates, not sure if they were once active & now retired, including the infamous "ASSMAN" plate that was shown on Seinfeld, but I don't think it's the same plate design. I tried ordering online initially, but either the platform or the browser was having issues so I called in my order; it took them awhile to pick-up & had to call twice. Subsequent orders, I noticed a slight upcharge to some of the menu items but not always. This inconsistency causes me to be a little weary & frustrated; when mentioned to the cashier, he just shrugged as if it's normal & didn't think it's an issue. Humph! I can't tell if the extra cost is for the platform or restaurant. My orders are usually done on time, & with the 12-min. drive back to the office, my meal usually stays warm. The Kamikaze Chicken Sandwich is delish! The filling just slightly overlaps the bun so you get a bite of everything (katsu, coleslaw, pickles, spicy aioli & bun) from start to finish, & that aioli packs a nice spicy punch of heat, nothing overwhelming that requires a glass of milk. There was only one time the chicken was over-flattened/unevenly flattened so it was on the drier side, normally it's a tender, juicy piece of steak. The Yubu pocket is the Korean version to the Japanese inari, which is a tofu pocket that's stuffed with sushi rice & other fillings; I tried the spicy tuna & egg salad; more than 1/2 the pocket is filled with spicy tuna & egg salad. Yum, yum! They've decreased the flavors to: cali roll, seaweed salad, spicy tuna, egg salad, & spicy cali roll; no more garlic butter shrimp (I would love to try), galbi, & cheese buldak. If you get the "assorted" combo, you get 4 pockets for $13, which is a way better deal & more than enough to be a meal. Yes, they're THAT filling! I can't tell if Katsu Bar is Japanese ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ because of some Korean menu items like tteokbokki (simmered rice cake that's a popular Korean street food made from soft, chewy, cylindrical rice cakes), kimchi dumplings. And katsu is a Japanese dish of chicken (other proteins such as pork, beef, & seafood has also been cooked this way) pounded thin, coated with panko, then fried. In any event, I really enjoy their chicken sandwich; I haven't ordered anything else because nothing else intrigued me as much as this spicy sandwich & the yubu pockets (I love inari!). Please bring back the garlic butter shrimp!! You got me at kamikaze. Recommended: Kamikaze Chicken Sandwich (this is so dope!), Spicy Tuna & Egg Salad Yubu Pockets.

Dill Egg Salad Sando its hard egg now, not gooey anymore dont get it
    Sam N.

Their Dill Egg Salad Sando is not gooey in the middle anymore. Its just a hard egg. I thought maybe I just got one that was overcooked so I took it back inside and the gentleman working there told me this is how it is now. Which unfortunately it just taste like a overcooked egg in the middle of all the sandwiches. Even their own pictures show a gooey egg in the middle still but I was told it's not like that anymore. I was really excited to try this after hearing so much about it, but I am severely disappointed. Most of the sandwich is that egg in the middle so now its just a simple hard boiled egg with no seasoning or flavor.

Wow we went here a couple times when they first opened and had a very limited menu. Well we went yesterday for the first time in ages and boy have they grown! They added so many things to the menu! Aside from the typical katsu curry. We also got shrimp sando and waffle fries which were very good. Loved the rose tteokbokki. And the egg sandwiches were creamy and oh so yummy. We will be back to check out the chicken sandwiches.

    Curry Katsu Plate with Chicken

Got the curry katsu plate with chicken. The curry was mild but flavorful. The chicken was very crispy. The salad dressing was a good vinaigrette. I think they put cracked pepper in the Mac salad because there was something crunchy in that salad.

Big ol' plates of everyone's favorite comfort food served up fast for a great price. The menu is concise and what you see if what you get, which is perfect for a crowd. Great place to drink as well, the servers are attentive and the bar has lots of great options. The actual restaurant is spacious and has sports bar vibes.

Came in at 9:00 PM with my family for dinner, and the restaurant was completely empty. The man at the counter (possibly the owner) immediately told us, "We're closing early and only doing to-go." Their posted hours clearly state they close at 10 PM under new management, so we were hoping to sit down together for a family meal. When we said never mind, he suddenly changed his tune and asked if we wanted to dine in after all. By that point, the experience already felt unwelcoming and inconsistent. If the hours say 10 PM, customers should be able to expect that. Walking in for a simple family dinner shouldn't feel like an inconvenience.

Basically it looks like they poured the curry and dropped in some boiled meat. Disgusting. I even told the server that I could not eat this and would have to feed it to my dog. Rice is flavorless. Just shaped rice with a the omelette was dry and basically a scrambled egg thrown on top. If you think you're getting that omelette rice you see online in videos from Japan, or even like the one on the menu you are in for a big surprise. The curry portion on my $20 plate was so small that I had to pay an extra 5.50 in order to eat the remaining rice with extra curry. The plate is raised in a way where you can pour a lot of curry in there. The cooks are obviously trying to skimp on portions. Service was slow. One gal took our order and never came back. Like I did not see her the remaining 20 minutes I was there. Didn't bring my extra pork cutlet or curry. I had to ask the other gal to bring our food bc the other one forgot or had bubble guts. The cutlet was mediocre but not as bad as the rock hard stew meat. I will never come back to this place and would advise ppl to stay away. Also the water literally tastes like they got it straight from the sink without a filter. Was expecting so much more. Left very disappointed. Do not order the beef curry plate. I guarantee you will regret it. This place is absolutely disgusting. Another note. This was my second time here. The first time I came during business hours and the place was closed due to no running water. I felt really cheated by the quality of food, portion size and the amount of money I paid for me and my buddy. This place absolutely sucks

Old wood. No unnecessary theater. I walked in expecting the sort of modest Japanese restaurant that makes you wonder why anyone bothers opening anything new. Then you get inside. There is old in the charming sense, where every worn surface feels earned. And then there is old in the neglected sense, where the room feels dim, tired and coated in the residue of a thousand lunches. Ichimiann lands much closer to the second. The cafeteria style ordering, self serve tea and tray return could have been part of its appeal, but the space has no real rhythm to it. You order, drift toward the back and eventually find yourself eating in a room that feels more institutional than intimate. The staff was pleasant and efficient. No complaint there. The soba itself was also good, properly textured, clean tasting and clearly better than the lifeless supermarket versions most people know. The problem is that "good soba" is carrying nearly the entire restaurant on its back. The portions are remarkably small for the price and every addition begins to feel like another minor financial penalty. By the time the tray reaches the table, you are looking at a modest serving of noodles in a tired room and wondering how the bill became so ambitious. Handmade or not, there was nothing on the plate that felt difficult enough, generous enough or memorable enough to justify it. That is the disappointment. Ichimiann presents itself like a surviving piece of old Torrance, but tradition alone is not hospitality and age alone is not character. The noodles are respectable. Nearly everything surrounding them needs considerably more care. I wanted to discover a neighborhood institution. What I found was an expensive bowl of decent soba in a restaurant that seems to believe its history is doing more work than it actually is.

Today we decided to revisit the restaurant for old time's sake. Inside, the main wall was repainted with a new mural. The annual LA Marathon posters, pinned by the staff who participated in the events, were also gone. Nonetheless, it retained its traditional izakaya décor with its counter seating alongside some regular tables. The staff were all new but still very courteous and brought the menu and water right away. New items were added but the core dishes remained the same. For this visit, we ordered our regular items and they arrived in 10 minutes: Eboshi Mini Trio with Shio Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza: The fried rice was still top notch, with slightly firm texture, not too oily, and pleasantly seasoned. The Shio Ramen with its clear broth was nicely savory. The thin noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chashu pieces were tender. To complement the set, the gyozas with their delicate wraps had nicely burnt bottoms, and flavorful fillings. Champon Ramen: A complex ramen with an assortment of meat, veggies and seafood. There were sliced pork pieces, shrimps, squids, cabbage, onions, snow peas and many more. The clear broth was quite savory and enriched by oil from sauteed ingredients. The noodles had a very nice texture and were a tad al dente. We were amazed that after all these years, the restaurant retained its original taste and flavor. We found out the reason why while exiting the restaurant: The young cook from two decades ago is now running the open kitchen as head chef. Great food and still reasonable prices. It was totally worth revisiting.

I was just starting to eat my meal when the sat a large group breaking them in to tables on both…read moresides of me. So people needed to squeeze by and then one guy asked if he could sit for a moment at my table. I said okay. But then I think he planned to stay at my table until finally my waiter moved him! There was a seat at one their tables the whole time. Then their waitress wedge herself with her back toward me in between the tables and I had to stop eating. Very disruptive and rude. Taking a while for the six people to order so I nudged her and I asked her to move and she seemed upset that I did that but didn't say anything no apology so it was very uncomfortable and I was rushing through my food so I burnt my tongue on the hot soup again even though I knew it was hot because I just wanted to get out of there. And then when I was done, I had to wait a while for the check and then they couldn't process the Apple Pay at the table so then I had to go to the front and wait for somebody to attend to me there overall this experience was not fun and stressful and I had got there right when they opened. I sure wish I had selected a different seat!! I wouldn't get the Nabeyaki soup again. It was really big and had a lot of end pieces of tough napa cabbage. There were two pieced of shitake mushroom and the standard thin fish cake slice. There was and egg in the soup and a three small chicken pieces. On the side were three small pieces of green bean and two tempura shrimp.
