I was really excited to find a sushi place near my workplace. My husband and I loves sushi and we'd always want to dine for sushi almost every week. Sadly, we were very disappointed with our experience in the restaurant. It was one weekday, we decided to go for this sushi place for the first time. Around 6 pm. We had a to-go so we just waited inside and the lady said it will take 30minutes. It was really cold that day and we parked a little far from Sushi Park itself. Youre lucky if you find a parking space infront of the restaurant. So while patiently waiting for our order, one of the service crew came to us and asked us if we would like to come back and take a walk because they have a new customer and needs to be seated. Like take your a** off the chair and a new customer needs a seat. I understand the place is small and it gets full during that hour but to ask us to leave? Are we not a customer? If we wanted to leave and come back for our order, we would have done it in the first place. My husband just kept his cool and said ok but he did not leave his seat. The 'new customer' kind of winked at us and pointed to a table that needs to be cleaned, telling us not to bother and theyre okay to be seated over there. They even knew that what the service crew did was inappropriate! My husband was so disappointed. You dont compromise a customer for another. The place is full, you wait for someone to finish and leave. Then you take a seat. It's okay if before I even take a seat, she'd say "Its going to take awhile, you might want to come back after 30minutes?" But we already had taken a seat and she said "Do you want to come back and take a walk first because we have a customer and needs a table" Wow. It took around 35-40minutes before we got our order. Crisp Spicy Hamachi House Special Roll was perfectly spicy and so fresh - no quality lapse due to COVID here! Sushi Park is our local sushi "joint", and I mean that in the best way possible! My BF and I go to this place every week and we love it! So glad they've opened again for indoor dinning. We missed them so much during The Pandemic. Takeout sushi is never the same in my opinion. I enjoy the whole experience. Tried this place out on our search for our Japanese spot in Oakland. It's located in a quiet neighborhood away from all the cars and busy streets. I should've expected less based on the menu but I didn't want to rule them out before giving them a try. All I can say is don't come expecting authentic Japanese food here. It's a small restaurant with an option for seating right in front of the chefs making sushi. Seating is pretty cozy and the staff is welcoming. Chicken yakitori- don't even try this! It was grilled teriyaki chicken slices cut up and skewered with peppers. Not even close to what a true yakitori is. Shame they even serve this. crispy spicy hamachi- nice fried rice texture, different from the typical rolls sashimi starter served with miso soup, salad &b rice- 10 small pieces which included maguro, salmon, hamachi, white tuna, not tasty or fresh in my opinion If you're looking for american bento box meal, this place will hit the mark. No joke, I love sushi, but this place has got to be the best gosh darn sushi I've ever had. The rolls are filled with so much flavor you don't even need soy sauce. I recommend getting the double sake roll, it's personally my favorite. The sashimi cuts are also not thin at all, they're actually very thick and long and worth the price. The service is average, not the best but not the worst. But the only thing I'm confused about is why they put so much time into waiting ? They told me it would be a half an hour wait for two rolls but I came about 20 minutes earlier to pay first and my rolls were already done ? I've grown picky with age, and I damned well should be! I've earned and learned that it's worth experiencing the best. So, it was a happy surprise to happen to find this Bay Area sushi gem tucked away in the Oakland Hills. I did work not too far away from this place and now kick myself for not being more open to trying local spots sooner! Sushi Park sushi is superb and something that should be treasured for the attention to detail and care put into crafting their rolls. I cannot currently speak to their hot food selections because I am always so blown away with their sushi, I haven't had the opportunity to try anything else. Each roll has a unique and delicious feature that makes it something you cannot get anywhere else. My mouth waters as I think about how to describe each roll. My favorites are Joy, Maguro Fever, and Paradise. I do have to point out that I did try some of the more simple and traditional sushi items and was not as pleased with those as I am with these specialty rolls. I've figured out, just like anything/one else, that nowhere is perfect. There are certain things this place does that outweighs the things that are not phenomenal. I do agree with some of the other lower scores that there are some things that are bland... but don't order those things here! Order their specialty rolls because you can't get the quality and flavor combinations anywhere else in the bay! Favorite sushi joint in the Bay! I come here every other Friday! I like the Muguro Fever - It is a journey of flavors and textures. It has spicy tuna, avocado, Macadamia nuts,mango inside and topped with torched white tuna, tobiko and tangy sauce. It hits so many flavor profiles that it will give you a Muguro Fever. First time at this joint I ordered this roll by accident and is a favorite now.I don't usually care for sushi that is heated in anyway but It's just done perfect. Passion is like sweet love lol, it is sweet tasting but not overwhelmingly. It has salmon, avocado and a small nib-bit of asparagus inside. Ahi tuna, unagi and sweet sauce on top. We ordered the UFO, Fire cracker ball and Pink Lady. Again, very disappointed. The fire cracker ball was very very fried and you couldn't even enjoy it because of all the oil. There wasn't much fish inside and you could just taste the sauce and the oil and it was just gross. The pink lady was super refreshing but again nothing special. It just had soy paper as wrapping so it was a cute pink color. And the UFO had fresh scallops on top but other that that it was another fried sushi roll. We did not like the calamari. It did not have flavor. I had about 4 bites until I decided I couldn't eat it anymore. My partner did the same. I was disappointed. I asked the waitress to take the calamari off of our bill considering that we didn't like it. She refused to do so and said that we ate more than half. There was plenty of calamari on the plate that we handed to the waitress. While ordering, I wanted the sashimi added to my dinner combo to be all salmon because I don't like tuna. They refused to do so. I was given two pieces of salmon and two pieces of tuna. My partner ate one of the tuna pieces and refused to eat the other one as it was not good. My glass of wine that I ordered was halfway filled. This was not the case for other customers. A service charge which was labeled as a tip on our receipt was automatically included even though we were a party of two. Maybe because we are Black and they assumed we wouldn't tip? I will never return nor would I recommend a friend or family member. Overall service and food was very mediocre. I have had much better. If you're Black please don't come here. I did my usual order when dining solo at a sushi-ya . . . Chirashi ($16) . . . and some gyoza ($6) because that's how I roll. The included miso soup and salad wasn't a good start. The soup tasted bland and watered down and the salad, while having a tasty dressing that seemed to have some peanut buttery notes, was a little pile of pale lettuce choppings. Chirashi = 2 each of tamago (egg omelet), sake (salmon), maguro (tuna), shiro maguro (albacore), tai (red snapper), and hamachi (yellow tail). Weird in a not so good way. - The Slice: If you look at my picture you can see two tuna pieces in the bottom left. Each of those was about 1" thick and 1.5" in diameter. Frakkin' huge, but it made eating awkward and I kept getting caught on pieces of the connective membranes. Became too frustrated and didn't finish the 2nd maguro. - The Slice 2: How the tai was cut (small thin square) made it tough and chewy to eat. Or maybe it was the fish itself . . . - The Slice 3: One of the shiro maguro pieces was not cut well. It was jagged and pulling apart. This didn't impact the eating like Slice 1 & 2, but definitely was visually unappealing. The gyoza, while pan fried, were a bit gummy on the outside and mushy and bland on the inside. If they don't use the same plain warm rice in everything, the nigiri, sashimi, and rolls may be better, but I gotta wonder where these guys learned their trade. Both servers were very friendly and attentive and I got warm inside when one of them brought out a bowl of water to the doggie tied up outside waiting for their dad (not me) to finish dinner. Really in LOVE with the service here. I came during a busy time and the service was still top notch. The waiters immediately greet and tend to you. I never have to worry that my glass of water is empty! The Sashimi Starter was fantastic. All of pieces tasted absolutely fresh. The Bay Roll was also wonderful. Great in freshness (although slight browning in the avocado) and taste, this roll is good if you're looking to order something deliciously different than common sushi rolls. Ordered pickup from here on a Friday night and got the ichiban roll (which I had eaten here once before and really enjoyed!), the passion roll, and the mixed veggie/prawn tempura. Didn't have to wait too long for our food (about 35 mins), the tempura head still hat and crisp even by the time we brought it home and the sushi was fresh and flavorful. I love this sushi restaurant. It's a little on the smaller side so make sure to get there early and parking can be a little rough but their menu and service are ON POINT. My husband and I used to be here every week once a week because it's that good then we took a little break for about six months or so but when we recently went in; it was like we had not left. Our server was really sweet and was playing with our baby. When she brought out our miso soup she had put extra tofu in mine so that I could share it with my baby.
