Love love love this place!! My coworkers and I have Sushi Friday every Friday and this is our place to order. Almost hate to write the review, as this is my hidden gem. Their rolls are THE BEST in town and better than most of LA's top sushi restaurants. Many of the rolls are unique to Sushi Planet. J's Roll is my favorite (it has jalapeno and an amazing sauce). You can't go wrong with their Happy Roll or the 911. The sushi chefs are friendly and, for sushi, pretty fast. Their creations are edible works of art and their sauces are so wonderful. We have never eaten off the regular menu so can't comment on that, but their sushi, sashimi and rolls are superb. read more

from the outside this place always looked a little bit suspect to me. you can see the sign from the freeway as you drive down the 101, and it always looked like a snake wrapped around a ball (which turned out to be a "S" wrapped around a planet - i'm blind as a bat). for some reason that caused me to write it off and kept me away until a few coworkers tried it out. the other night i had mackerel, salmon egg, white tuna, and albacore sushi (which were all 50% off). came out to roughly $15, not bad - and they weren't half bad. as other reviews have noted however, service is slow and we waited maybe a half hour for our food (even though we showed up around 8PM). the other surprise was finding two ants swimming in my water. yep...i spotted those little critters all by myself. how's that for a guy who is blind as a bat. read more

Terrible place!!!! It looks very nice, but the servers are very mean. I ordered one of their specialty rolls, it had this strong ginger sauce on top and I tried it but I didn't like it. So I told my server that if I could get something else or a refund and she screamed at me saying I couldn't. So I asked for the manager and I told her the same thing, but she told me so rudely that I couldn't do anything. That if I ordered it, I pay for it. I'm a server as well and every time a guest doesn't like a dish we do refunds or change their dish for something else. Terrible service and a terrible experience. read more

i used to love this place, until my last visit. my glass was dirty, and had stuff floating in it, and when i asked my server nicely if i could have a new glass of water she just picked it up and didn't even apologize. that's not even the bad part though... i had ordered a spicy tuna crunch roll. the waitress grabbed a roll off the bar that was ready to serve and dropped it off to the table next to ours. i didn't think anything of it but they were poking at it with their chopsticks and touching it but didn't eat it. about 2 minutes later, the waitress walked over to their table picked up the roll and dropped it off at my table...uh, i'm sorry what?!!?!? one of us decided to talk to the manager, and the manager's response was "well if they didn't touch it i don't see the problem." THE PROBLEM IS THEY DID TOUCH IT AND BREATHED ALL OVER IT!!! WHY WOULD I WANT TO EAT THAT?! JUST APOLOGIZE AND GIVE ME A NEW ROLL AND EVERYTHING WOULD BE OK AND I WOULDN'T BE WRITING A BAD REVIEW ON YELP RIGHT NOW!!! THIS IS THE BEST PART THOUGH... I didn't touch the roll, I was to weirded out by the fact that my glass was dirty and now I had a "sloppy seconds" roll sitting on my table...I kid you not ALMOST 5-10 MINUTES LATER THE WAITRESS COMES TO OUR TABLE PICKS UP THE ROLL AND GOES, "This actually isn't your roll I am glad you didn't eat it." AND DROPS IT OFF AT THE SAME TABLE NEXT TO ME AGAIN! WHAT THE HECK?! gross and so unsanitary. I am not one to try and cheat the system to get free food or anything, but the fact that they then had the nerve to charge me for this roll was absurd. The waitress wasn't nice, and she never said sorry or anything. We had to ask the manager for our check because she never even came back to the table. SO RUDE! This place was a lovely surprise! I go to Japan several times a year, so I know my sushi. The rolls were very creative and had unique flavors (they even let me substitute ingredients at no charge or hassle!) and the nigiri sushi was extremely fresh. Very reasonably priced for the quality and portion sizes. I read some negative reviews about the service, but (and I'm very tough on servers) I found it to be very quick, cheerful and accommodating.
