Stopped at Black Diamond Games and we were a bit hungry so we went to sushi Raju. This Korean owned sushi shop is a little run down but the food was really good. Prides r were amazing. We got tempura appetizer, edamame, gyoza and several pieces of nigiri. They were unfortunately out of some fish but what they prepared was awesome. I took my daughter here for her birthday dinner. She was craving sushi and this place had the best reviews. We looked forward to it for weeks! We were both hugely disappointed. We ordered spider roll, dragon roll and crazy monkey roll and the tuna bomb appetizer. All were mushy. I couldn't even detect soft shell crab in the spider roll. We did order one other roll, but it never came (and we were good with that). Our appetizer came at the end of the meal. We were pleasantly surprised that our meal came with a bowl of miso soup and a small salad. The salad was very American .. chopped iceberg lettuce with a thousand island dressing. A cucumber, sesame, seaweed salad would have been a better choice. Our waitress (I believe she is co-owner with her husband) didn't speak English so communication was poor. This used to be one of my usual lunch spots back when I went to Paris Beauty College ( which is right behind the restaurant) and I always remembered being extremely impressed with how delicious there food was. This place is in the oddest location; it's completely hidden in the back of the fry's shopping center, next to a furniture store, facing Market St. It's a small, cutely decorated place with a decent amount of seating that always seems to be clean and extremely well kept. I met up with one of my Paris Beauty girlfriend here recently for old time sake and again, I was pleasantly surprised of how consistently delicious and quality there food still remains. I ordered one of there Chicken Teriyaki bento box's for $12.95 ( They have a few different options) This one came with 6 different types of sushi a salad, soup and rice which I of course opted for no rice an extra side of salad. My friend ordered some tempura, with a side of sushi and a bowl of endame. While waiting, they brought us specialty items on the house. One dish was a variety of pickled vegetables, and some sort of raw sliced potatoes that was extremely flavorful. They also gave some sort of baked mussels with some incredibly flavorful cheesy like sauce drizzled over- Im not quite sure what it was called again though, it was delicious. My salad was superb! Just the typical miso dressing on nice crunchy lettuce though, some miso dressings are better than others, this one is one of the better ones. Our dishes arrived shortly and my, did they arrive in full force! I mean GINORMOUS amount's of beautifully arranged food, that just screamed wonderfulness- which to my taste buds, was all quite fantastically delicious!! My teriyaki chicken was generous in size, cooked perfectly and drenched in a light flavorful teriyaki sauce. Sushi rolls were, nice big and full of flavor. Service is nothing above ordinary though, decent. Our particular waitress was a little forgetful this evening though, incredibly sweet and apologetic for not being as attentive. Overall, it's a cute little place; the food seems to be consistently good with more than generous amounts. I'm so excited to find such yummy sushi so close to my new apartment. I'm not new to concord but I just moved into a new place so I had to familiarize myself with all the good food around where I now live. I stumbled on Sushi Raku while searching for a place to eat with some friends. The staff was patient (even when we couldn't decide what to order... sorry!) and we got salad, miso, and green tea ice cream for no extra charge. They definitely took care of us, even refilling my hot tea, which other places have charged me for. I just ordered takeout from Sushi Raku tonight as well, and the quality was just as good and it was ready and waiting for me when I went to pick it up. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

A go-to destination for lunch during the work week. They have lunch specials and quick service. Food: You will find your very Americanized version of sushi like cut rolls that have cream cheese. More power to you if that is what you like. The quality of the rolls is not bad. I'm a fan on texture and I crave crispy and crunchy so you might see me take a bite of fish and then a bite of tempura. I'm lucky if I can have the two combined. Tempura - cruncheriffic and HOT. Went here for lunch with a co-worker. I prefer Japanese owned Japanese restaurants but those are becoming harder and harder to find. This is Korean owned. I had the Ramen special with California roll. The roll was quite tasty, but the ramen was just ok. as a previous reviewer stated, you can tell it came for a package. I prefer my Ramen fresher. Co-worker had Chicken katsu don, and she LOVED it. I had a bite and from what I tasted the katsu was very well cooked and seasoned. Service was very attentive. Waitress came by to fill our tea/water frequently, and came by often to make sure everything was ok. We'll probably go back, but I'm still on the hunt for GOOD ramen in Concord! read more

This is my favorite sushi place in Concord. The prices are ok, average for sushi. The specialty rolls are very good, not as much variety as I like, but you can tell they really tried to bring a good menu. The service is what I would like to call amazing. The waitresses have never neglected us, and we always have water and endless amounts of tea. The sushi chef also likes to give stuff on the house. Literally, every time I have been here, the guy sends out 1-2 free dishes. They are usually small, but they are gorgeous, and tasty too. This review is delayed, I went in May of 2017, so you're getting a vague recollection of that meal. I went in a group of 4 & we bought 5 sushi rolls, Nabeyaki Udon, & a side of gyoza (complements of the Yelp check in special)! I took a picture, but I don't remember which rolls are what... I'm pretty sure we bought a diablo roll, a super CA roll, a pink lady roll... & possibly a crunch CA roll & a cherry blossom. Not sure why we would buy 2 different CA rolls but that's what it looks like! So from what I remember the food was alright & looked pretty enough to take a picture at least. I forgot to take a picture of the noodles & gyoza but they looked nice too. Nothing in particular stood out taste wise where I would feel compelled to return though. Ok...so I needed sushi BAD. Like a ridiculously severe craving. I did the usual Yelp "closest to me" bit and this place was Numero Uno on the list. Thank sweet Zombie Jesus that it was!! Amazing sushi! Fresh Sashimi and generous amounts for the price. We ate like Kings (or emperors since ya know, it's japanese cuisine and all). Great service too. I will echo what some of the other reviews have said and agree that the service here does suck - actually it takes "wow this sucks" to a whole new level of sucky-ness. First we went at 1:30 on a Saturday. There were only like 2 other people there, but the whole time they acted like they were incredibly busy and annoyed that we were even there. We had a party of four, and ordered various sushi rolls between us. After taking our order, she gave an annoyed sigh and muttered "lots of sushi". 'Oh, I'm sorry, did I order too much sushi at a SUSHI restaurant?' I thought to myself. Then she told us the chef was really busy so our sushi would be a bit late. We told her that was fine, but we wondered to ourselves how he could be so busy seeing as how there was now 1 guest in the restaurant and they already had their food...but ok. She then brought all of our dishes out at various times instead of bringing them all out together - so each dish was 5-10 mins apart. This is all dishes except for mine, which didn't arrive until about 20 mins after everyone got theirs and had finished eating. When we inquired about it she was like "oh yes be right back" and immediately brought it to me. Really? So its just been sitting there for 20+ mins. Thanks. In addition to the above, we ordered 3 iced teas and 1 hot tea. Our iced teas were empty the majority of the time we were there and she NEVER refilled them. Not once. The hot tea - which was oddly serviced in a plastic soda type cup - was refilled, but she refilled it while blankly staring out the window which resulted in hot tea overflowing across the table. I COULD be forgiving about most of this, except for the fact that she was unapologetic about anything and seemed put out we were even there to begin with. The sushi itself is okay - its not better than sushi I have had elsewhere in the area. Happy Roll is better, it's just a shame they have weird hours which caused us to go here instead. I will not be coming back - which is a shame as I work nearby and this would be a great stop on my lunch. But no thanks not worth it! read more

I love this place.. food, the staff, and the value! My ex and I discovered this place last year and it hasn't disappointed yet! I recommend the Raku Dinner Special as the best overall.. I'm allergic to fish so the ex an I would actually order and share the dinner special and both be satisfied.. It's around $16.00 and comes with a beef or chicken teriyaki, California rolls (6), veggie/shrimp tempura, and sashimi (6), soup and salad... Can you beat that? No where I've found! The staff is awesome and always friendly and make you feel at home.. they've got some yummy sake's and beers.. very clean and welcoming. Not what you'd expect to find in Concord behind Fry's! Total gem and from the looks of things it'll be around for a very long time! Sometimes on Friday and Saturday nights there's a line so get there a bit early! read more

A pleasant surprise, since we were in the area, craving sushi, and too lazy to drive further than around the corner from Fry's. The one immediate downside - doesn't seem like they have A/C, and the front windows face the sun for like 5 hours a day. My friend said it was an "authentic Japanese touch" but I mostly just withered and died. The fish was fresh, some of the freshest I've had in the area, and the rolls were a mix of familiar and suitably unique. The BB-8 roll was delicious, if a little pandering. (We were sitting there talking about video games the whole time, so what do I know.) Service was great, location is good. Had to ask for chopsticks because we are stupid white people. I was told that they could not make my California Roll without avocado, though they have in the past. Under the circumstances, they refused to make an exception to make a California Roll without avocado which leads me to believe they are not freshly made at the time of order. We weren't really craving for anything raw and was there more for their lunch bento box. I wasn't sure what to expect with the lunch bento box since most places I've been to tend to give out small portions. As for this place lets just say I didn't finish my lunch nor did the bf. We both order beef teriyaki but I order the bento box with tempura and the bf got the entree since we was certain that the bento box would have "FOUR PIECES OF MEAT" haha boy was he wrong. The portions were pretty big. Tempura was pretty good and the beef teriyaki was perfectly cooked. As for the service part they were very attentive. Came and checked up on us multiple times, refilled our waters without us having to ask and honor the yelp check in deal with free goyoza. A coworker and I came here on a lunch break after another coworker had suggested I try it out. I wasn't expecting anything lavish since I am familiar with the area in which it is located, which happens to be a not-very-nice shopping center. The restaurant is wedged between some random-type businesses, one is a skateboard shop if I remember correctly. It is a location that is a little out of the way and not too easy to see when you drive past it. Ironically enough, we ran into another coworker there, so coincidentally, it must be a place that is popular amongst the lunch hour crowd. They give you this soup-like dish as an appetizer, and I am not sure of the name since I don't eat Japanese food on a regular basis. That being said, I had a few questions for our waitress on what certain dishes were made of. It was apparent it was rather difficult for her to answer my questions as English was not her first language, and she was unsure of how to explain certain foods in English. But again, this is not the sort of "mainstream" place in which I would expect the staff to know English well. Our food was brought out at an average speed, I'd say between 10-15 minutes. However, my coworkers food was brought first, and mine came about 3-4 minutes later. I'm not sure why our food wasn't brought out at the same time since there was only two of us and not too many other people in the restaurant, but that's OK. The only thing saving this place from getting 3 stars is that my food was very good. I ordered something called Chicken Katsu Donburi, which I believe is also referred to as Katsudon, although I may be wrong. Regardless, it was VERY good and a very big portion. So much so, that I had no trouble saving half for lunch the next day, and all for $8.95! You go here for the portion to cost ratio, not for the experience or convenience, in my opinion. I probably won't go back just because I am moving out of the area in the next 3 weeks, and I would like to try some different restaurants before I leave. But I say it is worth a shot! read more

Some restaurants have really good food throughout their menu. This is not that place. However, I really like the ones I like so for those items, I am giving them four stars. My go-to dish: Hae Doe Bop (Korean sushi salad) I like the good variety of fish and the cubes are a good size so I can actually taste it in the bowl. Good size and good flavor. My kids go-to dish: 3 item bento with sashimi, sushi and teriyaki salmon. The five pieces that come for the sashimi is a good deal and the salmon teriyaki is a good size. Comes with miso soup and salad. Plenty of food, even for my teenage son. I have had a number of rolls and have never found one that I wanted to order again. I just stick with the Hae Doe Bop and I'm always happy. read more

One of the better sushi places to eat at if you're stuck out in the Contra Costa Boonies. I've had my fair share of bad sushi meals out here, and you would think my bowels would have convinced me to stop by now, but I'm a trooper. I'm 90% sure that this place is run by Koreans (someone please ask and test out my Asian detecting skills!), so I expected some pretty bad stuff as usual and I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty my rolls were. Bad sushi places usually try to make up for lousy fish by making their rolls super huge so you are distracted by pounds of rice, but these were nice and compact, but still filling. The waitress offered a no-MSG ponzu sauce to use in place of soy sauce and I enjoyed it very much. Prices are pretty reasonable for this side of the Bay - quite a few rolls in the $4-5 range. Full lunch specials start at $6 - great deal! I must have looked very lonely or attractive because the chef sent over some deep fried California rolls on the house (I'm going to guess the former - it was a bad hair day). I'm not a fan of CA rolls in general, especially those that are deep fried and covered in an array of sauces, but I did appreciate the gesture. The staff is super friendly, and fast. Soup, salad, and ice cream come with each order, so remember that when ordering. Today I ordered the Udon soup lunch special. $10.95. Came with salad, spicy tuna roll, gyoza, tempura, and a huge bowl of udon soup, and ice cream. All of it very good, flavorful, and came to the table fast. My daughter had the dragon roll. She loved it and along with the rest of the food, she ended up taking several pieces home. Fabulous lunch out.
