I have been coming to sushi rock for close to 20 years. Lately, they have redecorated the interior, and the ambiance is fun and enjoyable! In particular, I loved how they decorated for the holidays! I usually order to-go, but because of the decor, we stayed and ordered in! They have a nice vegetarian combo with the vegetable roll, nigiri, and a hand roll. The ginger side salad is a nice size. I have also enjoyed their vegetable tempura in the past, and I appreciate when they have accommodated me when I request a custom simple vegetarian roll. Since day 1 I have always had an amazing experience. Owners and staff are very friendly and attentive. Service is awesome , your table will never be messy and your water will never by empty. This past weekend we decided to have some dinner at a nice homey sushi bar in the Pinecrest area called Sushi Rock. Here you will find several classic rolls plus some great unique creations only found in this restaurant. We ordered the Spicy tuna lover roll and the fisherman roll which came with raw plump scallops on the inside and sliced shrimp and avocado on top. Both rolls were delicious and very fresh, and a very good portion size. Continuing with our scallops theme we ordered their grilled scallops on skewers which were also tasty and came with great sweet dipping sauce. We got two additional items the Boston roll with shrimp and lettuce and steamed shrimp dumplings. For dessert we ordered an ice cream tempura which was one of the best we had in a long time. I love this spot! Have been coming here for over about 15 years! The staff is great, they always are kind and the ambiance is a cool vibe. Very outdated. Food itself is also a bit under par. We ordered miso soupwhich came warm... not hot and had to send it back to reheat. Ginger dressing for the house salad was a little under seasoned. Sushi rice was good and fish seemed fresh. Definitely not the best sushi in the area. I saw a few of cooked dishes that looked tasty.... like a fried rice and also a noodles dish. Also it seemed like they closed for a while and then re-opened because a few times we went there, they were closed. I'm so disappointed because I used to really like this place. Awful! We started with fried gyozas. We all know they come straight out of a bag but thats okay... they were fried yet strangely pale. The California roll was made a day prior to serving and refrigerator cold. The dragon roll started off well with the fried shrimp tail, the second piece was chewy and after the third piece I pulled the string of chewy nori paper out of my mouth and left the rest on the plate - paid and walked out. Nori paper when moist or wet becomes chewy and stale - the paper was downright trash worthy and if fresh could have been a decent roll. Guess the first sign of a desperate business is "20% off if you pay cash" First and last time. read more

The decor is still nice comfortable booths with rock paintings and guitars and some vinyl and album covers on the wall. This is owned by the sushi Siam group so they surely have good Thai but I always come here for the rolls. They kill it on the rolls everything from spider rolls to jb rolls to California on and on. All are excellent. They service is always excellent and I have been here many times. Really when a restaurant survives over 15 years you know they are doing something right. I was craving sushi on vacation and drove from Dania Beach to Fort Lauderdale to eat at Sushi Rock. We were immediately seated in the back of the restaurant. We had a main server, who was very busy with takeout orders, so another server stepped in to keep our service up without interruption. So we walked into Sushi Rock just 30 minutes before closing because the sushi cravings were acting up and it's hard to suppress them. The service was great and they were very welcoming despite the late walk in. The rolls were massive and chunky which makes you feel like you get your money worth because some places are bite size. Sushi Rock is high quality with 80's tunes in the background and Christmas light strung throughout to create a diner like atmosphere. Well it has been quite awhile since our last visit to Sushi Rock. As always the customer service and attentiveness of their staff was excellent. The quality of their food was also very good; however, the Seafood Stirfry which was one of their signature hot dishes was a little underwhelming to be honest. The quality of the sushi was excellent so no issues on that front at all. Ambiance and atmosphere was actually pretty cool and laid back as well. Plenty of old school rock playing hence the name Sushi Rock. Giving them a 3 Star rating though as I felt for the money ($28.00) the Seafood Stirfry should have been better; however, this restaurant is definitely worth your while. The place has an outdated eclectic restaurant feel that I'm not sure if I hated or loved lol. After looking through many options, we ordered a variety of items so that we could try a few things. We started with pork gyozas; they were standard, pretty good. I'd probably order them again. We also ordered a dragon roll, my boyfriend ordered another roll (which I didn't try because it was raw which I don't eat). The sushi was pretty standard as well; I didn't think it was great but not bad either. We also ordered fried rice; again standard -- not great but not bad. Of course we had to have fried donuts the end the night! The fried donuts were indeed delicious. But have you ever had bad fried donuts anywhere? Service was very nice and attentive. I came to Sushi Rock on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty slow. We were seated immediately but it took a few minutes for someone to come up to us and ask us what we wanted to drink. We ordered three rolls. The south beach, which was good but not anything spectacular. The spicy tuna lovers roll was good, it was not that spicy so I needed to add a lot of wasabi. The Hot and spicy hamachi roll was my favorite because it had the most flavor. Each roll was a good portion and the prices were fair. Someone PLEASE redecorate this place!! This place is warm and welcoming. When I come in they treat me like family they hadn't seen in a while. This spot is right in the heart of pinecrest, and I gotta pop in every couple weeks for sure. They have so many types of excellent sushi. This time I got the tuna dragon roll and a tempura JB Roll. I know what you must be thinking, two hot rolls? Yeah, they have a variety of fresh fish rolls, and raw sashimi, they do boats (it's wild). But somehow, I find a certain comfort in tempura shrimp and asparagus with a slice of that ruby red tuna over top . It's also about their presentation. Really spectacular rolls. Arrived about 9:20 pm. Same decor and music was great. Staff was friendly and attentive. Ordered chicken Katsu...came crispy and plentiful. Ordered sashimi appetizer... disappointed with presentation and taste. Literally served fish on ice cubes with a piece of lettuce on the side as garnish. Nothing artsy as menu states. Sliced fish of salmon, tuna and "white tuna"...all had an old refrigerator taste at first bite. It also was not even sliced well, salmon had dangling corners and mostly uneven and chunky. This was fine, realizing coming in at this time. However, it was totally unacceptable to start cleaning the sewer trap!!, Yes the sewer trap, which by the way is located right behind the sushi bar. Really! The gas and smell was just horrendous. Waitress tried to cover up with floral spray but the gas was too much. She was very apologetic and said the food was on the house. Like we were going to stay or pack the food to go. All that fish!, everything else!... at that bar and our meals were contaminated! Today, as I picked up my take out, I noticed the counters are dirty,the place needs a good cleaning. Today, rice was hard and salmon had a white vein in all the pieces, not chewable. Had to throw the roll in the garbage. Try to support the small business, but quality is important. This is my last visit to sushi rock. This is a fairly decent sushi place on Las Olas. The sweet avocado salad was a hearty portion of avocado with a refreshing dressing. The sweet potato roll was a great portion, with 10 large pieces that were well prepared. However, the vegetable spring roll was very disappointing; it was mostly lettuce and the other vegetables were not flavorful at all. I also wish they didn't use styrofoam packaging, given how many other restaurants are switching to more environmentally friendly choices.
