I have known of this place for years, but only now did I finally get the opportunity to try this place with several friends. The server was extremely helpful, and set up our table for delicious beer and sake drinks for everyone to enjoy. The food also came out quick, and was plentiful for everyone. The sushi rolls are about $15 but come with around 10 rolls, so it's actually not bad at all. I had a chicken teriyaki that was decent, and came with rice. Although they don't take reservations, they still had a table ready for us when we got there, which we really appreciated. This has been my families favorite Sushi place for years and it has never let us down! After a few months of not going we went for dinner last weekend. We were happily surprised to see that they updated the furniture and menus. The upgrade gave it a great facelift and makes the place seem more modern. The food though that is still consistently delicious. We had fried dumplings that were just right. For our entree we did the famous boat for 2 (we are family of 3). This is usually our family order but we added an extra roll. The sushi and sashimi were fresh and mouthwatering. The eel nigiri is my favorite and it had a big piece of eel, Yum! The boat for 2 fed the 3 of us and my husband still took some home. The servers are always friendly and always checking in to see if we need anything. Kampai is a lil sushi spot in Miami. I heard that they've been around forever and, walking in, it felt a big nostalgic even if I've never been there before. It reminded me a bit of a sushi spot I used to work at in high school- intimate and a pretty extensive menu. Parking can be a bit tough but we were lucky to find a spot easily this time around. When you walk inside, there are two sides and I heard it can sometimes be a bit of a wait for a table. The service was great and pretty fast. We ended up ordering two rolls and the Tom Kha chicken soup. The soup was probably my favorite out of everything. I think the rolls would have been my favorite but I think the rice was a little too damp. I think this was just a one time experience for that so I would like to come back and try the rolls again because the flavors were great! read more

If you want sushi this is a place to go. It is a small, cute restaurant. We called to make a reservation and right when we got there we were seated. There is an option to sit either up stairs which is the traditional sitting on the floor or down stairs where there is chairs. All the servers were attentive and very helpful. A friend recommended this place a while ago. We originally first visited over a year ago, and again recently (last week). It's not a fancy place but that doesn't bother me much. It's still welcoming and the service was good both times. The first time we came I remember they had a lunch menu with specials. It was not available on this last visit, but they normally still have it. This time we ordered a Crispy Rice appetizer dish with tuna. Loved it! For rolls, we picked two that were fully cooked, the Caliente roll (wish fish) and another one with salmon (can't recall name now). The person I visited with is allergic to shellfish so I had to skip on other options. Caliente roll was tastier, as the salmon one had no flavor, but still not what I'd pick again. I come to Kampai at least once a month because I truly crave the food that has such a unique and special taste that feels home made and delicious. We had an unplanned visit here on Sunday whilst waiting for our friend's dog to be finished with an emergency vet service across the street. It was a perfect spot to grab a bite while we waited. The menu is large - I am always wary of "combo" type places where there are two distinct cuisines on the menu, but I knew this place has been in business forever, so I guess they have figured it out. Larry S. and I both got Japanese combos and our friend had a wonton soup with a roll. First of all, the portions are HUGE!! It was so much food. Even the solo roll our friend ordered had about 15 pieces to it. My favorite was the tempura that came with Larry's combo. Lots of variety and clearly freshly fried. Super crisp with a tangy dipping sauce. I thought the fish freshness was so-so. Not off at all, but right on the edge. This was confirmed when Larry, who admittedly has a very sensitive constitution, had to make an emergency pit stop back at the vet due to an upset stomach. Nevertheless, we did eat all the food and enjoyed it very much. Getting the bill at the end took a bit of time, but other than that, the service was very good! This place has been here forever, way back when it was one of the only few Japanese restaurants, before there were ramen shops and omakase. It has been a neighborhood staple for its good quality and price. It has been years since my last visit, and I am glad they have kept up with maintaining the place, so it looks bright and fresh enough, with a long sushi counter near the entrance. They do offer an extensive menu, with almost a page-ful of appetizers, lots of rolls and cooked items like teriyaki, noodles and katsu. There are quite a few authentic Japanese dishes. Among my friends we had a variety of rolls and other items. I'd give the food a B+. The fish is not the best but definitely not bad. I don't like the rice in the sushi though, it's more mushy than it should be and also kind of bland. The katsu and teriyaki are a very generous portion, as big as the plate itself. In today's world it's hard to find such portions for under $20 so definitely appreciate the value. read more

Don't let the outside of this place fool you. This is a legit Japanese and Thai restaurant. I was really super irises by the quality of the Thai but was prepared for the high quality sushi. I had the Tom yum with chicken - they will make it super spicy, if you ask for it. If you're not beet red and sweating, it isn't spicy. For sushi, I had the Ikura and quail egg. They did not have uni, unfortunately. I also got a Zombie roll with brown rice. Everything was very tasty and fresh. I would definitely go back. The service was also very friendly and accurate. It was Valentine's Day and we really didn't want to wait too long to have dinner. Luckily someone recommended me this place and we are glad we came! The wait was only 10 minutes although they were pretty busy. The sushi is amazing and so worth trying. The prices are reasonable and everything we ordered was great. This is my favorite sushi spot of all time and i'm from New York. The fish is so fresh it just melts in your mouth. Their specialty rolls are amazing. The yummy roll is my favorite, but the regular simple rolls like the bakery roll & spicy tuna are immaculate as well even the hand roll versions. The spicy tuna roll comes with a kimchi sauce, it's delicious. The Cracker Tuna is the honorable mention, it is the best crispy rice you will ever try. It's not mushed up tuna like everyone else does, it's diced sashimi tuna tossed in a light spicy sauce with perfectly-fried rice cubes topped with spicy mayo & jalapeños. Their thai tea is to die for & their hot dishes like the steak and pad thai are fantastic as well. The service is great, the ladies there are so accommodating and keep up with you just the right amount. I'm a regular here & will be as long as I live here! read more
