I'm going to start with the relation name-decoration because it's the funniest thing. The name is Sushi Rock, when you come in you do notice some rock alike decorations and some rock artist paints hanging on the wall; nevertheless, you will also see a variety of decor all over the place that will make you think "this makes no sense"; I find it funny. I do think they should change the carpet since it looks old and gives a feeling of dirtiness, also some boxes they usually have pilled out where customers can see them. I will qualify the food in general as average-good with a fair price range $$. The employees are super nice and always smiling. I go here all the time, at least once a week; somehow I don't feel like I need to change. The service here is fast & the food is good! What I thought was the salmon crunch roll is actually the spicy salmon dragon roll!! It's on their specials not on the regular menu. I wish they would put it on their regular menu so that other people would know about it! It's $15.95. It's so good!! They also have a spicy tuna dragon roll. Wow, I don't even know where to begin with this one. I feel bad giving this place 2 stars, but really, I have had better. The husband and I were quite disappointed with our meal at Sushi Rock last night. We were driving around after mass trying to figure out where to eat and our Yelp app brought us here. For the first time, I feel that the app failed us =/ From the outside, Sushi Rock looks like a promising, cool, dimly lit restaurant. I guess the windows are tinted though because once we walked in it was really bright. The bright lighting did not help the dated decor. We sat in a blue leather booth, on blue carpeting, and were accompanied by a picture of the N'Sync boys watching over our meal....akward. My tuna tekka roll was a bit too veiny (I actually left most of it behind), but my shrimp tempura roll was tasty. The size of the roll pieces were just too big, in my opinion. It is kind of hard to sit there and look dainty or even polite when your trying to chew a huge piece of sushi in your mouth. Thank God my husband and I have known each other for so long and we don't care about looking like fools in front of each other, but I would've died had this been a first date. My husband didn't like his spicy tuna roll at all. He actually left some pieces behind and for him to leave any food on a plate is VERY rare. He actually went home and heated up some left overs because he was still hungry. The service was great and we could tell they really wanted us to have an enjoyable meal here. I had been here once before and returned without hesitation. I was supposed to have lunch at LAN PanAsian but they close from 3-5pm. I chose sushi rock because I know they always have good sushi, however, I failed to consider my parents lunch prefrences. I should have realized that going to a restaurant with hopes of food from another was probably not the best idea. My parents ordered some dishes with coconut mile that were supposed to be the equivalent of LAN's. A lemongrass chicken (which was too perfumy, more than usual) and a red curry with coconut milk and bamboo (which was ok). Something I must warn about is their "calamari." I put it in quotations because it should not even be called calamari. It's more like 5 pieces of overfried rubbery rounds of yuck. You've been warned!!! Aside from those bad moments, my orange dragon roll was very good. Salmon,shrimp, avocado, imitation crab and cucumber. Very plesant. My cousins Alaska roll left something to be desired. Their thi donuts are pretty good. Overall okay, but defenitely not worth the price. $80 is not my ideal mediocrity price range. read more

Sushi Rock in Suniland (with an "i" not a y - and one 'n') is definitely a winner. I've been coming here for years and it's always fresh - and the service is fantastic. We like to sit at the sushi bar, but have had table service with the entire family as well. They offer a decent kids menu, too. I think my favorite dish is the tuna tataki. It's the biggest plate of tuna slices I've ever seen. Gorgeously arranged and the tuna just melts in your mouth (you don't even need teeth)! It's right off US1 in the Suniland Shopping Center, at the far end by SW 112th Street. Nose for Clothes is right next door. Parking can be a bear as this strip mall is always busy, but if you're patient, you'll be rewarded with a good meal. I prefer to stick with the sushi and not order the fried platters as they are just average. Sushi is the star at Sushi Rock. read more

Terrible in every regard. Service was awful. Waitress did not know any of the menu items or how to pronounce them, which was very strange. We ordered hot sake that we never got . We reminded another waitress of the drinks... she proceeded to make the hot sake by banging the decanter inside of the trash can, which she was then going to pour the drink into. Well, it's hard to say how steep they have fallen in respect for the quality of the food at Sushi Rock. Not too long ago they were our go to sushi restaurant here in the Pinecrest area. Now they are our must avoid sushi restaurant. We ordered our usual dinner for delivery, nothing fancy that would have been better in the restaurant. I actually never ate inside of Sushi Rock and I've only ordered one thing from them ever... But I've ordered it many times. The interior decor is pretty decent though, and they have the chefs make the sushi in front of you. I love  their Boston temaki (hand roll) which they don't even have in their menu anymore. So glad my friend suggested Sushi Rock! I first judge sushi on two items - maguro sashimi & unagi sushi. If that is good, I look for creative roll recipes - you know, something beyond a California roll. Then, I check out other offerings like soup (is there more than miso?) and donburi. It was the Memorial Weekend when we decided to give this place a try. We were in the area and were craving sushi so we remembered this place was around the corner and decided to go. Obviously the place was empty, just 2 other tables were in the restaurant, we were greeted immediately and led to our table. Our waitress was attentive without being all in our faces. I saw they had Sweet Thai iced tea, I've seen the pictures and it always looked delicious so I decided to try it out... And yaaaaaassssss!!!! I loved it I will order that again... Fo' Sho' ! So we noticed they had some specials and gave that a try, we had the Crunchy Salmon roll and the Crunchy tuna roll, they were quite large, we couldn't finish them, had to take the leftovers home. I'm pretty sure they were bigger than the other rolls, I had such a hard time putting the whole roll in my mouth, I really don't like that, I'm too little to be opening my mouth like that and then I feel like I have to cover my mouth and chew, not a pretty picture I my opinion. Cute little restaurant. We walked in and we're promptly seated at a booth for two next to the window. It was average loud. Not too cold not too hot ambience. They don't serve liquor however they do have wines, beers and of course Sake and your traditional non alcohol beverages. I saw another yelper tried the sweet Thai tea so decided to try it as well since it looked appealing in her pic. And it was delicious!! Next, We ordered shrimp filled dumplings to start. They were a bit smaller than what I'm used to but still very tasty. We ordered a Spicy Salmon Dragon roll to share since we don't eat much. It was very tasty! This is quite possibly my favorite restaurant in the whole of Miami. The attributes that give it this esteemed place in my arsenal of restaurant choices are simple. The sushi rolls are huge, very reasonable, delicious, fresh, and perfect in every way. Sushi rolls are a very personal thing...I have seen some people write reviews about it here claiming the rolls are not to their liking which is something I just can't understand in any way. To me, these rolls are sheer perfection. My favorite are their spicy tuna rolls...the tuna is ample, the freshness is unmatched and the size and price are the best value by far. Their spicy mayo, which is a great compliment to any roll, sashimi or sushi is the best I've yet to find. It's just the right balance of spicy and creamy. Sushi Rock is also extremely consistent, I have rarely been disappointed, if at all. You always know what to expect, and it's usually greatness! Dear Sushi Rock: Please do not change anything. Not much to say about this place. We came here because Flanigan's had a long wait. Service is good I must say but the food is not to my liking. I ordered the pad thai and the noodles were so hard and rubbery like it was not cooked all the way. The sauce was extremely salty and yuky. Before asking the server to take it back, I had my oldest daughter taste it and she even agreed it was no bueno. I asked for the server to take it back after 3 bites and ordered something else. You can't go wrong with a salad so I ordered the house salad and the Shumai. The Shumai was flavorless and the dumpling as well tasted under cooked smh. I wasn't sure whether to review this place since the only food that my boo and I tasted was the Kani-Su appetizer. It's funny because when walked in we were immediately greeted and seated. So once we were seated, settled and started browsing in the menu, we were both struck with a not so pleasant smell. We both looked at each other and my boo asked me if I "smell something weird?"; I said "yes". And we both looked downwards and it was the carpet! It had that nasty, mildew smell. So I only had one drink of hot green tea and my boo had one Japanese beer plus the Kani-Su and we left. We typical spend $50 or more on dinner and there was no way to get past the smell. It wasn't worth suffering through the smell and eating or food. Maybe we could have gone up the bar since the stools were higher up, not sure. But overall the ambiance wasn't pleasant. I have been visiting this place for several years now. My wife and I would go so often that the servers already knew what we have wanted. My wife always orders the same thing, bagel roll and tuna salad appetizer. She loves it and can never have enough. I tend to order a lot more different things, I think I have had most of the menu and can tell you that most of the menu items are really good except for the terriyaki stuff. The Thai dishes are really good and the sushi is super fresh and very well taken care of. The service is always really nice even when they are busy. Service was great! They stopped by the table to check on the meal and drinks several times. They offered warm cloths to wipe our hands. I thought the rock and roll decor was neat, goes with their name. I ate the Hamachi hot & Spicy roll to satisfy my hot sauce craving. The spicy sauce on the roll tasted Sriracha like but thinner, really great flavor. The roll had large pueces with plenty of avocado and masago. The gyoza appetizer came out quickly. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me! I won't be shamed a third by giving this place another chance. I ordered my food, an hour and half later it's a no show. I call for an eta they tell me the driver had gone out and no one answered the door and that he called my phone , but NOT once did my phone ring and NOT once did my door bell ring or a knock was heard, they insisted that he did go to my house. I verified my Phone number and it was wrong. But they tell me he will be right over I'm waiting outside my door for about 30 minutes the driver pulls up to my neighbors house and he calls me now that he has the correct number we talk, I tell him he is at the wrong house. He walks over to my house and hands me the food I asked " is it cold and he said "no". I sign my receipt and still give him a decent tip. Once my family and I begin to eat we are extremely disappointed not only was the food super cold it was terrible. I ended up warming up chicken nuggets and my daughter ate an apple tasted much better than what we waited over an hour for. read more

So, i came here for lunch with a co worker and i was disappointed it could be that i tried the wrong thing but, my rolls were dry .. i had the number 1 which is a California roll and 6 hand rolls which include a white fish, tuna, salmon, eel and i forgot the other 2 but, whatever they weren't even good to remember. I could of ate the sushi and Publix and they would have been better. Also, the service was bad, the waitress never asked if we wanted more water or even if we wanted dessert. Having grown up in Palmetto Bay, I can remember the boom of Sushi restaurants that sprouted up in the 2000s, pretty much on every block. From 152nd St going north, every strip mall had a sushi place. A lot have failed, and I'm always glad tiny Sakura, which has been there since the 80s, continues to thrive. So with all that competition, how is Sushi Rock, if its survived this long (and in Sunnyland North, a place notorious for short lived businesses and vacant spots)? First, the location is larger than a lot of the competitors. Now I love Sakura, but the place really fits like 20. You can get 20 people in at the front part of the restaurant, and most likely double that in the main dining room. You also have bar seating, table seating, and booth seating depending on your party size and preference. Second, the menu is a bit more varied. Granted this falls into one of the many "Sushi restaurants owned by Thai and thus Thai-Sushi" so there is a mix of both Thai and Sushi. For the record, I've never gone for the Thai. As for the menu itself - the prices are actually quite reasonable. Listen, you're not getting the wide variety of fish you would at Matsuri or Sakura, but it has all the staples (Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, whitefish) and you can get a lot without spending a lot. They also have some nice special rolls, do hand rolls, and have a variety of tempura items (their tempura soft shell crab is really good). Ultimately, if you are in Pinecrest, at lunch, and want sushi, this is your best bet. Especially with their impressive lunch combos. Also not bad as an alternative if you wanted Wagon's West, and the line as usual is outside the door. read more

This review should be special being that it's my 200th review and last review of 2011 written on the last day of the year. I was expecting fireworks for the meal of such an important day and such an important review - but no. The only sparks in this review were the ones almost coming out of my ears when we left this dumpy place. Hopefully this review is a sign that the curse of shitty meals and service shall remain in 2011 and I'll have nothing but amazing meals in 2012. Here's hoping... So I've been to this place before, many many moons ago and remembered it fondly. As we sat and went over the menu we realized their sushi roll selection is minimal. Thinking back I came here prior to finding my inner foodie and having been to plenty of sushi establishments offering an extensive selection of inventive rolls. My husband saw the snarl on my face and said "hey, maybe they don't have a wide variety but the food is really good" so I decided to be positive and give it a shot. We ordered a miso soup, fried wontons, and 3 rolls, all with brown rice. Food came out fast - miso was average, had little tofu. Wontons were über greasy and we had to blot. A lot. Then things went downhill when the sushi came out... Sushi came out with white rice. All 3 rolls. We told the waitress they were supposed to be with brown rice. She apologized and took them back to the sushi chef. The sushi chef yelled at her - loudly - telling her "well, they are going to have to wait!" with major attitude. The place was empty. Besides 2 people at the bar paying their tab and the people rolling silverware in the back the place was dead. So wait for what? Whatever. We motioned to the waitress to just bring them and we'll just eat them b/c at this point I am starving and annoyed. She brought it them over and we were amazed at the amount of rice on these things (pics added) We tried to pick some off with forks and knives but it was too much. We ended up dissecting a couple and realized its an insult to massacre $70 of sushi in order to eat it. The tempura on the Dragon Roll was as greasy as the wontons and the shrimp was tiny. Annoyed and defeated we asked for the manager. Mr. Friendly came by and pretty much yelled at us for not calling him sooner. We told him what happened with the angry chef and told him we are willing to pay for the more expensive roll we ate the most of but requested a comp for the others we barely touched. He seemed to agree. Then the waitress returned with the bill and a measly 20% discount. Oh no you didn't! We went back to the dude who argued with us b/c we didn't ask for him sooner, and stated his final offer was to have the expensive roll taken off and "that all I can do." Hubby was not in a fighting mood, demanded the total, paid and we left, pissed and hungry. Nothing tops off a shitty dining experience more than shitty customer service from the boss. So, in order to ensure my 2012 is full of fabulous meals and memorable dining experiences I will not be returning to this dump anytime soon or ever. read more

My BF's mother took us here last night, and I have to say it was unbalanced. We all ordered the chirashi (miso included, green salad extra $$) wakame, a spicy tuna roll and a tanzana roll. The wakame was sitting on a bed of shredded carrots and thus, got tangled into the carrot and was hard to eat, but tasted OK. The miso was weak, hardly any flavor, and thus the flavorless tofu sitting on the bottom was painful to eat. Tanzana roll was ok, but the spicy tuna was the worst I've ever had. There was NO spice at all. None. Just a tekka roll with some idea of hot sauce; but no spice. The rice was gluey. Chirashi was much better, with seared ahi served in a soy dressing, then regular tuna, salmon, some white fish plus tamago, large roe and shrimp... and krab. With a K. Well plated. Overall: expensive, not that rockin. Honestly, I could never forgive them that tuna roll! read more

I'm telling you, it's like butta! They melt in your mouth; the quality of fish is so top notch- the color, the freshness, the size! And let me tell you, those suckers are huge. Usually sushi rolls aren't all that filling unless you eat a ton of them, but each piece is so large and tender that I can actually say I have quite the "food baby" when I leave that place. Not to mention their spicy mayo is outrageous! I wish I could buy it by the jug. In addition to the deliciousness of the rolls, they are so reasonably priced. $6 for 8 spicy tuna rolls- I don't know where you find that price for that quality anywhere else. The only negative I can think of is the fact that it's located in a strip mall, so even if you get a seat by the window you are staring at parked cars and US-1. Furthermore, expect to be dining with Britney Spears looking down at you with each bite, as the walls are splattered with pics of pop and rock stars (hence the name of the restaurant). It seems a little out of place for a Japanese restaurant, but hey I'm not complaining. I'd look at Britney's bald head all day if I can eat those spicy tuna rolls. Rock on Sushi Rock! Oh and a final note/plea: please make Sushi Siam as good as you are- I know it's your sister restaurant but it doesn't even come close to your quality and yummy factor. The only thing I can say for the Sushi Siam on Brickell is it has a much nicer ambiance; however, their spicy tuna rolls are more expensive and sized for infants. read more

I used to love coming here but it's fallen off in regards to quality . I ordered a unagi roll ( eel roll with seaweed on outside ) which should be very simple and what I got was oversized stuffed rolls drenched in sauce . I then asked for scallions and instead they brought me full sized green onions in a plastic cup . The soy sauce was also served in a small plastic cup . When I was done the server asked if I would like to take the unagi roll home which I said " no i didn't really like it " and then proceeded to still charge me for it even though I only tried one of the rolls and the rest were untouched . I find Sushi Rock a hit or miss at this location. The staff sometimes not to friendly. So for someone who just frequents this for lunch every once in a while. Well think about it. The food Is good, the quality is good. Great verity of food. Maybe they need to revamp this place. Use fresher quality of food. You can tell the food that can be cooked before, has been and waited till someone ordered it. If I go out to eat it's because I don't feel like cooking. So if I'm paying to go out. I would like to be greeted with someone who who is happy to be there and I do expect good freshly prepared food and fresh food. I love sushi! I do eat out a lot! I live right down the street. If I had to give one word to describe the place I'd say, "Decent". The food gets an "eh" from me. It's not bad... it's ok. Theres just nothing distinguishable or 'good' about it. It's just ok. The place is small but nice. The energy is good. The music is good and it's at just the right volume where you don't even have to speak up to be heard and the service is always great. The people working there are amazing people and very nice. Very efficient. It's priced right in the middle. They aren't cheap but they aren't expensive either.
