    SushiRush set
    Alex J.

Every moment I spent at this spot just brought me down one star after the next for this review. I stood in front of the cashier for probably 10 minutes before I was acknowledged by the woman working behind the counter. It seemed like she was making a shaved ice dessert so I didn't expect her to drop that and come take my order, but at least say something to a customer waiting right in front of you. Once I ordered and sat down, I noticed how filthy the counters were. Sticky, sauces everywhere , food crumbs, hairs, sticky sauce bottles . . . it was a mess. Not a care in the world and absolutely no standards for a sushi restaurant. When my order was handed to me, the napkins wrapped around the chopsticks were all wet and dirty because the girl didn't clean her hands before giving them. I ordered the Sushi rush set ($25) and added the Salmon with lemon and Toro with caviar ($13). I don't know what was wrong with all this fish but none of it was fresh. By some miracle, it wasn't fishy or smelled funky so I figured I'd be okay to eat it. Every piece of fish had the same taste. That taste? Nothing. There was no taste. And the texture? Every piece of fish had the same, oddly mush texture. The rice was hard, falling apart, and tasteless. Since sushi is supposed to be framed around the rice, you would think the rice is the most important factor. Doesn't seem like it here. The cuts may look beautiful and you think you're getting at least decent sushi. But nothing about this is good. $50 down the drain. Having eaten sushi at everywhere from supermarkets to michelin star restaurants here in LA and in Japan - Sushi Rush won't be on any of my must visit or return to lists.

Located in Grand Central market in DTLA, a very popular and freshly prepared sushi spot, Sushi Rush. I tried this during Dine In LA and was pleasantly surprised. I had the all Salmon Zukushi with melt-in-your mouth salmon prepared and served in a variety of ways. Seared, as nigiri, as sashami, and as a hand roll. For Dine In LA, you also received edamame. Service was good and the ambiance was the usual grand central market bustling.

It was delicious. The service was fast and it was a fun experience. It is located inside central market and it was definitely a great choice.

The service was friendly & speedy despite the stall being packed. The matcha latte was not over-sweet & tasted deliciously earthy. The 2 combo plates we ordered were a well-priced tasty treat. All the nigiri were very fresh & the little taco-like handrolls were stuffed. 4 stars instead of 5 due to my single disappointment with the blue crab roll.

Was really looking forward to this spot because of the good reviews and photos! It's located in Grand Central Market and has counter seating so it's fairly casual. I got the 5 piece rushroll set at $30, making it more expensive than Rol ($26 for 5 rolls) and Sugarfish (most rolls are in the mid to high $5 range). Given the casual take out vibe of the place and the hands off service, the set was definitely a bit expensive but I chose to get it anyways because it looked so good in the photos. The second I opened the box, I knew something was wrong because of the strong fishy odor. Rolls all tasted bland/one note. I couldn't say these rolls necessarily tasted bad or like they spoiled but the smell and lack of flavor was shocking.

This place is not bad; it's definitely better than grocery store level of sushi. They got the process pretty down and set. Slices of fish are already precut, and they use a machine to mold the rice for nigiri. Not bad. Fish quality was enjoyable. Even the lean cut of fish like tuna didn't smell bad or taste off which is great but that doesn't mean the fattier cuts like salmon where super amazing, they were good. . The machine does make nigiri on the larger side but not bad. I think this is a solid choice for sushi if you are at Grand Central Market but ofcourse there are far better sushi places out there. Happy hour menu is weekdays 3pm - close.

I got the Rushroll set 3pc and it was so good! I wasn't sure I would like the scallops roll, but it was my favorite of all three! The girl at the register was friendly and service was fast. I had an underwhelming sandwich at another location, but these rolls definitely made up for it. It was a little difficult removing the plastic from the nori, as it all fell off, but I appreciate how crispy it was. 10/10 I will definitely come back.

After an afternoon of walking around our city, getting shot at with rubber bullets by police, and building up a pretty big sense of hunger a few weeks back, my wife and I ended up at the Grand Central Market and figured it was time for some sushi. We were here on a Sunday night around 7PM and the hall was pretty slow compared to usual. We've walked by this place dozens of times and even though I always thought the prices were on the higher side, I was very interested in the quality of sushi. We ended up just ordering one of the sushi platters so I honestly have no idea what was even served to us. On it, five different types of sushi were sprawled in front of us and I was honestly a fan of every single one of them. Was it the best sushi I've ever had? No, but the fish tasted fresh, the toppings were good, and the rice below was good as well. It was a tasty platter of nigiri and I have no complaints. Overall, Sushi Rush was a solid place to grab a platter of sushi to make us feel better and I can't think of a reason to not give it four stars. I didn't personally interact with the staff, but the screen allows for easy ordering, the food didn't take long to get prepared, and the sushi itself was very enjoyable. At the Grand Central Market with a craving for sushi? I know a place.

    Mango shaved ice 9/10

Ordered on the screen and it was quick and easy. No sushi for me today but the mango shaved ice was delightful! It was so light and fluffy with the perfect mango "sauce" compliment. Super refreshing and satisfying. Enough to share with a friend!

I am giving this restaurant 5 stars mostly because of how much the owner cares about his restaurant and providing a great experience to customers. There was a discrepancy about my order, and he reached out right away to try to clarify and rectify the situation, which I deeply appreciate! As for the sushi itself - this is a really solid casual option. A great option in the Grand Central Market itself. Seating is limited, so be aware of that. They have a solid happy hour menu! We got the pitcher of Sapporo for $18. Turns out there was a mixup so we had the party plate. My only complaint is that my rice fell apart on half of my rolls. Some of the toppings can be a little overpowering, but that's a personal preference because I really like the taste of the fish itself. The fish was very fresh, good quality. But every type of sushi was very unique. I had never had anything like that before. The extra flavor on top was definitely a new experience. My favorites were the salmon and tuna pieces. The rush roll was difficult for us to figure out the wrapping at first, but once we got it, we appreciated the idea of the rush roll with the nori being used almost like a tortilla for a sushi taco. The flavor for the rush roll was great! This was probably my favorite bite overall!! I would like to come back to try the scallop and the taro. Those two options look great. Please support this business. The owner is very kind and cares so much. DTLA and GCM is lucky to have them.

    Alexis M.

Crispy tuna rice was definitely crispy but a little too hard in some areas. I did like how it was cut into 4 pieces to make it easier though. I also wouldn't say this is authentic but it is good. 7$ though!!

    Dee G.

Super easy menu, I love that they have sushi on display, thought that was cute. The man taking my order was super nice. Directed me where to get containers for my sauce. The sushi was so bomb and super fresh fish. I went back and ordered two more! I thought they had reasonable prices. For sure would come back and try different rolls.

This sushi spot is a gem! The fish is high quality and fresh. I ordered the rush set, a couple pieces of yellow tail, a yellow tail hand roll, crispy rice, and the shaved ice. The crispy rice was skippable, didn't have much flavor but the rest was delicious.

The Assorted Sashimi was fun for the two of us to each try 6 premium pieces. Everything tasted fresh and high quality with a different garnish accompanying each piece! The cucumber salad was refreshing and crunchy to munch on in between sushi bites. Their Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice surprised me with an arrangement of flavors and textures that went together magically. I would have gotten a second order if stomach space wasn't a concern. Next we had the Yellowtail Sashimi, which of course had sliced jalapeño on top. I don't care how many restaurants put that out, it's always fantastic. The only roll we got was the Cherry Blossom roll, I was intrigued by the menus indication that it didn't have rice. A large roll with 11 pieces came out that was 95% fish, the remaining 5% being bits of avocado and two sauces that paired exquisitely. It tasted excellent. Our server recommended their Kid Season sake which was exactly what I was looking for: filtered and semi sweet. Highly recommend!

The plaza itself is unassuming, and at 7pm on a Thursday, most other businesses in the plaza had closed. The lot was full, so we paid $12 for valet parking across the street.  We waited for about 10 minutes for our seats at the bar, and honestly, the bar was so much fun! We sat right in front of our sushi chef and orated our orders directly to him, piece by piece. He was such a jovial soul and made our experience so warm and enjoyable. I was very impressed not only with his ability to make sushi but the attention and care he paid to his customers. For example, he noticed that I especially enjoyed the fattier cuts of fish such as ootoro and salmon toro, so when I ordered yellowtail, he recommended that I try the kanpachi toro instead. It was a great recommendation, and in that moment, I felt so seen. The chefs here are truly masters of their craft, both in sushi making and hospitality. In total, I had the toro, salmon, unagi, scallops, kanpachi, salmon toro, and kanpachi toro. Every piece of nigiri I had was very fresh and delicious. My favorite pieces of sushi had to be the toro. You actually get two different cuts of toro with one order, chuutoro and ootoro which are medium fatty and full fatty respectively. Each piece was so delicious and indulgent, I don't know if I can choose a favorite.  I had a wonderful experience at Sushi Gen, and I think that sitting at the bar was way more fun than what sitting at a table would've been. I loved getting to interact with our sushi chef and felt very well taken care of. The sushi was amazing. I'm already plotting an excuse for my next visit.
