First time here and we're all impressed with the quality and the taste of our food. Most favorite dishes were Toro uni bowl, sweet shrimp and uni sushi. Ambience and service were nice too.

Came here yesterday with my boyfriend during their soft opening. The vibes are great! Interior is simple and minimal or like not overstimulating. We got a few things from their menu and everything was great. We got full pretty quick. The portions are just right. They're gonna add more things on the menu for their bowls when they fully open I think. We had a great experience!

A Volcano roll-- diseased looking fish, raw onions and a soggy shrimp tempura, flavorless, whist the onions and jalapeños sting your pallet.

Always excited are we to try a new restaurant in Echo Park, which we have called home for 25 years. In dire need of good sushi we have always been, so it was with enthusiasm that my wife and I entered this new space with epoxy floors so shiny it looked like you might want to eat off of them. However upon entering the restaurant, we noticed it was quite hot in there, which does not bode well for a place selling raw seafood. Neither boding well for the restaurant was the enormous menu, with a list of tricky sushi rolls so long no one born in this sad ADHD world of low attention span social media addled brain death might ever have the fortitude to read through. As my dear friend and restaurant owner Jeff Ellermeyer once told me of a soon to be out of business pub with a vast selection of beer-- they have so much on the menu the bartender doesn't know what he's selling. Curation is the business of fine dining, not massive selection. But who knows, perhaps this would just be an opening quirk and the food would be sublime? Nay. First came a bowl of cucumbers, pickled with so much acid that my first instinct was to run back to my automobile and search the glovebox for my Rolaids. Worse still, adorning these vinegar pickles was two giant swords of fake crab. We did not dare and hoped whatever came next might be an improvement. That was not to be. For what came next was a plate of salmon sashimi which was described, quite incorrectly on the menu, as "salmon sashimi". Why you ask was that a false descriptor? For the salmon sashimi came in a pool of something that many detest (namely I), something some may admire but surely should be announced on any menu if your item were to be drenched in it, and that liquid I detest is known as "truffle oil". Over the years I have grown to accept aforementioned flavor as an acceptable addition to some French fries, but never shall I want it on my sashimi. Dear sushi restaurant, if I order sashimi I am interested to taste THE FISH, and I wish for my fish to be delectable and divine not soaked in false mushroom brine. The other items we received were likewise ill conceived. For instance there was a bowl of spicey salmon so spicy I did not venture past a single taste (and I like things hot) and there was some "garlic edamame" so greasy one would need three napkins to clean their hands off should they have indulged with their fingers. The bridge and tunnel crowd coming to try sushi in Echo Park may be modestly amused by the spectacle of choice found on this establishments long list of lackluster limply fried tempura rolls, but Echo Park ultimately demands a kind of quality that is only found in the glisten of the epoxy floors here.

I love their food, location, free parking, service... everything was perfect for dinner last night. The ambiance was cozy and casual! I also loved that they had no-rice roll options And the giant roll was HUGE -- it actually made me so full And I still can't believe this quality and taste for the price We got it to-go this time, but it was still SO good. Definitely coming back again -- next time I need to dine in!

I ordered the Salmon Ikura Bowl and my guest had the Tonkotsu Yama. My order came with miso soup and a small salad, both of which were delicious. The salad had the perfect dressing - not overwhelming but flavorful. My tuna bowl was great. The tuna was perfectly tender and looked beautiful. My guest really enjoyed his Salmon Ikura Bowl. Many other nearby restaurants had really long lines and wait times. But I doubt their food was any better than what we had here. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We ordered a chicken karaage to start and it wasn't bad, nothing to write home about though. Since the pieces were large, it was slightly awkward to eat without any plates, and I was just catching the crumbs with my hand (didn't have the ramens at the time). Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.

It's a typical sized place for a restaurant on First St. (I.e. small & narrow). They do make use of every space though. Parking is...Little Tokyo...sigh. IF you're lucky enough to get street parking, go buy a lotto ticket on your way home. Parking structures near by. We shared: Agedashi eggplant: Japanese eggplant beautifully "fan" sliced. Dashi was VERY good. Generous amount of grated daikon. Assort. Tempura: Saw this being served while waiting. Looked really good and it WAS! Large shiitake mushroom. Fan cut Japanese eggplant, kabocha pumpkin, shrimp tempura & two (2) shiso leaves. All VERY crisp not oily. Warm dashi side had deep umami rich flavor. Probably made the legit kombu & bonita flake method. #1 ordered the Miso carbonara: garlicky carbonara served with their signature house-rolled out udon. Wonderful dish. Portion sizes were adequate. #2 ordered the Uni carbonara: same garlicky carbonara with uni bits strewn about. Estimating one whole uni broken. This actually works for ease of eating. Plus, uni ranges in the $18/oz on the low end to $60 or more/oz on the higher end. Yes we love & appreciate their gonads. Udon noodles were chewy, bouncy & worth the wait. Yeah yeah....the dough is purchased. Not house made. But, seriously you've seen the YouTube videos of restaurants specializing in Japan? Yes there are places in LA who make their dough & roll it out. It's Hella lot of work! Yamachan produces large scale udon/ramen in San Jose. It's fine. Let them work out the dough to water ratio. Also portion size was decent since we shared a couple apps. Might want to consider the option of extra noodles. The table to our right full of younger male co-workers were there to socialize. They probably all grabbed an afternoon snack. Was it worth the 30-40 min wait? ABSOLUTELY! Michelle 2025 Star. Yes it's worth the wait even with the sucky parking. Got so excited forgot to take photos of our udon. That's ok. During the pandemic, I loved ordering their ramen kit and making our own tuskemen. However, I have to say the quality of the food from this location seems to be poorer. I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen. The noodles were a bit soft that I think they were overcooked for a few seconds longer. It didn't have the chewy bouncy texture that I was expecting. The broth seemed to be missing a few toppings that was promised in the menu, there was no green onion, chopped chashu and menma. Overall I enjoyed the ramen, and it was still good, but just not as good as I remembered. The service was just okay as well. I did think the waitress tried her best, but she was the only one person working during Sunday lunchtime. It was very hard to get her attention. I can't help but feel a bit disappointed with this experience. I'm not sure if I'm going to come back.

While good, it didn't have the crisp flakiness you'd find in a specialty restaurant that specializes in just tonkatsu. However, it is still good. Next up was the omelette with gravy with fried rice that had both shrimp and pork. I feel the egg of the omelette was well made. It had that texture and consistency you would really want from an omelette of that nature. The pork and shrimp fried rice tasted a little light in the seasoning and flavor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The gravy was also lighter than a heavy gravy as well. When the food came out, I thought the meal would be deeply heavy due to the quantity and the gravy, but it still felt a bit light and manageable, which was kind of outside of my expectations, so that was pretty interesting. I do like the chicken soup this comes with. It has a nice flavorful broth where you could tell it was made well too. The service here is pretty good and attentive. The ambiance is nice but pretty busy. Also, if you come on the weekend, expect to wait a bit because a lot of people do want to eat here and the line can become a bit backed up.
