Mafia Sushi has become one of my go-to lunch spots whenever I'm working near Crypto Arena in Downtown LA. It's one of the healthier options in the area, the staff is always incredibly polite, and the food is consistently fresh. I usually order a spicy tuna roll along with a few other rolls, but I've also had the fried rice and crispy rice, and they've all been excellent. I did have one small incident where I bit into a tuna scale that had made its way into my spicy tuna roll. It definitely caught me off guard, but honestly, it wasn't a dealbreaker. If anything, it reminded me that they're working with fresh fish. I let the staff know just so they were aware, and without me asking, they removed the roll from my bill. That level of customer service was genuinely appreciated. The restaurant is always clean, welcoming, and a place I look forward to visiting on my lunch breaks. As I'm writing this, I'm actually getting hungry thinking about my next visit. Thank you to the entire team for the great food and even better hospitality. I'll definitely be back. read more

Stopped by for dinner before a concert. We were quickly seated. The server was very friendly and attentive. Once we put our order in, the food started arriving relatively quickly. We ordered the yellowtail special, salmon roe, and salmon nigiris which were all good. We also ordered the salmon skin handroll and party roll, again both good. We then added a Gentlemen roll and the Baby Yellowtail Sashimi Special which were also solid. The non-sushi item that was end up ordering was the veggie tempura. We stopped by Mafia Sushi LA after my daughter finished a gymnastics competition -- she had just won, so we figured sushi was the perfect way to celebrate. First impressions: the place is pretty simple. Don't expect a super decorated sushi bar or that "wow, this feels like a hidden Tokyo gem" vibe. It's more casual and a bit plain inside. Service also felt a little... rookie. Our waiter was nice but seemed new to the job -- a bit unsure and not very engaging. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls -- salmon sashimi, bluefin sashimi, rainbow roll, Red Dragon roll, sweet shrimp, eel nigiri, and a baked salmon roll. Presentation was actually quite nice (orchids and plating looked great for photos, but the sashimi slices were thinner than expected. The fish tasted fresh enough, but overall the food landed in the "good but not memorable" category. Solid sushi, just nothing that really made us go "wow." If I were judging purely on food and atmosphere, this would probably land around 2.5 stars for me. BUT... here's where the night got sweeter. When the staff heard our daughter had just won her gymnastics competition, they surprised her with a free ice cream to celebrate. That was a really thoughtful gesture and totally made her night. On top of that, they also brought complimentary miso soup for our whole table (4 of us), which was a nice unexpected bonus. Little things like that go a long way, especially when you're dining with kids. It turned what would have been a pretty average dinner into a warm family moment. So while the sushi itself was just okay, the kindness from the staff bumped this review up to 3.5 stars for me. Would I go out of my way to come here? Probably not. But if I'm nearby and craving sushi again, I'd consider stopping in -- especially since they were so sweet to our little champion. read more

I always go to my chiropractor and see this spot literally in the alley way so I was like hmmm I wanna try sushi and I must say it didn't disappoint :) I also had their spicy tonkotsu pork ramen and boy was that delicious as well! The California rolls were very good it was my first time trying sushi and I'm not a fish person so imma work my way up lol, also when I came up the ramp the waitress opened the door and told me to sit where I want and she made feel at home so that was a plus. The restaurant its self is very clean and the vibe is amazing. Food, service and ambience was top tier and I will most definitely be stopping by again. There were only two girls working the entire restaurant so be aware you might need to be a bit patient as they are the only people there to seat guests, food run, wait tables, bus tables, and reset tables -- they were as attentive and as sweet as they could be. We came by on a Sunday night around 7pm after reading the glowing Yelp reviews earlier in the day, and I'm so glad we did! We were sat immediately by the super friendly staff. The menu is pretty extensive, so it took us some time to look through everything, but the wait staff kept checking in to make sure they weren't keeping us waiting. We ended up going with the Amazing roll, the Legend roll, the 3 Musketeer roll, and the Big Boss roll (one from each of the four categories). Honestly, everything was delicious! The standouts were the Amazing and the Legend. The Amazing was so fresh and drenched in this light cilantro sauce that is to die for. The Legend was creamy and saucy and packed with flavor. The vibes inside are cool, just a local sushi spot feel with chill music and large windows to satisfy your DTLA people watching dreams. Not sure what the parking sitch is like as we are local and were able to walk over, so keep that in mind if you are not local to DTLA that parking is probably a challenge. This place is incredible. We were greeted with miso soup while we looked at the menu. We ordered a baked roll of fried roll and two fresh rolls. The fried roll is absolutely perfect of all of the fried rolls I've ever had because it was perfectly fried but then the fish was still fresh and raw on the inside. Went here with my friend around 3 on a Sunday and luckily it wasn't too busy so we got seated immediately. For a restaurant in the heart of LA, and a bit contrary to its "edgy" name, Mafia Sushi is decorated in a way that allows lots of natural light and gives out such a quaint and serene vibe. The music was gentle and thus allowed easy conversation. All the staff were very friendly and sweet. Not only were we greeted and seated immediately, all the orders came very quickly. Everyone was attentive, and condiments and water were always filled without the need to request. The food itself was indeed the star. It's easy to tell that the ingredients were fresh, and all the cuts were thick and juicy, making each and every bite a satisfying experience. LB SUN was amazing. Not only was the plating stunning, resembling both a seashell, and also a setting sun, the taste is superb. It had a unique sweet and creamy texture yet light and also hints of chili. To contrast with the creaminess of LB Sun, FANTASTIC 4 had a more refreshing taste with 4 different seared fish on top of 4 different salad. The light tang and sweetness of the salads complemented so well with the thick juicy cuts of fish. Out of the 4 salads, the cucumber was my personal favorite because it leaned more on the sweeter side while my friend really enjoyed both the seaweed salad and the octopus salad. The SCORPION KING was also on the refreshing side with the flavors leaning on the light tanginess. It was built to look like a scorpion, too! Such a cute touch to highlight the name of the dish! Last but not least, the PUNK has a similar favor profile to the LB Sun with its sweet and creamy sauce. However, it's not heavy at all as there were plenty of fresh veggies as well as the soy paper to balance out the creamy sauce. For the nowadays, the pricing at Mafia Sushi is also incredible and very affordable, especially considering the location (DTLA), the portion, the quality of the food, and the attention to details and flavors of the chefs. This was super close to the Pico metro stop just one block away, and it was spacious and nice atmosphere. Menu is extensive. Foods were pretty fast, but size is a little small imo. Presentation is not bad, could be better. Flavor is a little light, including both the wasabi and ginger. Fish was fresh. The rice-free rolls were interesting, I like the one I ordered but not sure if it's worth the price? Also couldn't tell the mango flavor at all, which was why I ordered it. Maybe it's just how much it normally is in LA. We still enjoyed it, but I think even their specialty rolls didn't seem too interesting to me. I ordered the yellowtail scallion on cut roll. It's the biggest portion I've ever had. The fish tasted very fresh! I also ordered the chicken hibachi. The hibachi sauce was very good. It was a bit sour which I like. I made the mistake of pouring the whole thing which ended up making it very salty but if I poured properly, this would've tasted even more amazing.
