It was Saturday evening and we had a party of three. We walked up to get seated and was told by one of the staff there's a wait and someone was ahead of us. The odd part was we were first in line and no one was ahead of us. I stated that I didn't mind waiting. That's when Itsy came and told us "there's just some miss communication and we should be seated next". Itsy was very well informed, attentive and professional. Thanks to her our evening became a better experience. We ordered a few rolls and they all tasted very good. The price was reasonable and thanks to Itsy's great service we really enjoyed eating here. Koon and Winston create fresh generous portions while Glenda, Itsy, Nancy and Johny make the dining experience fun. I always like to check out new places a few time just to make sure my first experience wasn't out of the ordinary, so I tried Sushi Sake again. This time I brought some friends and we all had a great time. All my friends agreed that this place has some of the best sushi in Reno. I loved the mussels again and really likes the Fuji Roll and the Rock n Roll. The rolls were great and the service was fine. The Gents making the sushi behind the bar were crackin' jokes with us. I did find out that free sake comes with all-you-can-eat. It wasn't just a one night promotional thing. Check it out. I recommend it. read more

Head Chef Khun has been around the Reno scene for a long time. I remember him back from Benihana at the Flamingo Hilton! Anyways, he's no longer doing Teppanyaki. He's go to guy at Sushi Saki. Sushi here is a nice change of pace from anywhere else in Reno. There's some usual favorites but Chef Khun is more known for his skills at cutting nigiri. Because this isn't a large sushi bar like the others in town, he keeps quality in control. My only negative feedback is what he doesn't control. Servers here always seem lost and pricing is a bit high compared to everywhere else in town. I don't venture downtown much but if I'm craving for sushi, this is a go to spot. read more

If the freshness and quality of the fish and seafood served at Sushi Sake (El Dorado) and Oceano (Pepperrmill) are indicative of what one may expect from all sushi bars in Reno, I wonder where Reno's elite sushi crowd go for their sushi fix. Disclaimer: This is only my second sushi experience in Reno the first being Oceano. Sadly they were both disappointing serving second grade fish and poor quality rice to boot. The fish is not inedible but just not sashimi grade. It does not have the melt-in-your-mouth goodness that a sushi snob may expect. There is also not a whole lot in variety either. The rice used I believe is Calrose which is not as good as premium grade rice like nisihiki or kokuho. Everything else too were sub par like the nori (seaweed), which was chewy, their signature lobster roll which has hardly any lobster meat and stuffed with fake crab meat and the greasy, cheesy, mayo laden mussels. Since every sushi restaurant in Reno (at least as far as I know) offers AYCE, it is understandable that they have to keep their food and labor cost down in order to maintain a profit. I guess if you have money to splurge on top notch sushi, Reno is probably not the right town. read more

Went here with the family on vacation. Ordered several different rolls. Overall the rolls were fine. It is not any better or worse than my local sushi bars in the San Francisco Bay Area. The size of the rolls were larger than I order. 10 vs. 8 pcs. where I reside. So the value is there. Prices are same where I reside but portions are larger. Service was slow at first but was better once the waiter arrived. If you want sushi rolls that are reasonably priced with good portions, I would recommend this place. But if you are a sushi snob, then look elsewhere. read more

I've been five times between 2011-2013 and have always had good experiences with the AYCE. I've never seen fewer than three chefs working on a Friday night, so sushi orders have always come out fast. One of the chefs, Kuhn, is friendly and super accommodating; just tell him what you're in the mood for. All the servers are super friendly. The free sake (during the evening, only, acc. to other reviews) is a nice touch [UPDATE: a server corrected me that sake wasn't free... but somehow we still weren't charged]. Do watch out to avoid rolls containing the "crab salad"; it is bland and bulky - really not worth the space in your stomach when there are so many other good things to eat on the menu. ALSO, the chocolate mochi was (for about a year) absolutely horrid (chalky and freezer-burnt it tasted). read more

I ate here on a recent trip to Reno. The ayce menu was extensive.Miso soup, salad, and many other appetizers all included.The salmon nigiri was excellent as were the hand rolls, although they are quite large.I had a great bottle of cold sake for $15 which seemed bottemless, must have had 8 drinks in there at least, the chefs were super cool, they let me try abalone and seared blue tuna fir Free. Went there for lunch. It was not busy at all. Service was terrible. Sushi chef was not bad. Fish was ok, but they didn't have things on the menu. Very disappointing! Me and my boyfriend came here by 9PM and was not even informed that they would closing at 9:30 so we still were charged full price and i just saw in a quick tip that rolls would be half off after 9. They didn't even tell us that we had a free sake included in our AYCE. The service was terrible. They seem nice at first, but it gets to the feeling where they make you feel awkward. (or could be that we were last minute customers and since it was a Friday night they knew they wouldn't be out right away so they could have fun) our appetizers came very late. The menu doesn't have a wide variety for selections. I usually ask for a small bowl of rice for my one year old because she enjoys eating it and we got charged $2.00 for it when other places offer it for free all the time. Luckily the amount that we ordered filled up our tummies, but if we still wanted more to eat we wouldn't have been able to order more which would be super inconvenience because they didn't even bother telling us that they would be closing their bar and if we would like anything else before they did. It's as if they just wanted us to dine in just to make themselves last minute profit and "steal" our money. The location is too open where the pedestrian traffic is gawking at you. They only good things about this place is their orange sorbet dessert is absolutely fantastic and that the chefs make the sushi absolutely perfect!! We came for their happy hour which is $18 all you can eat. When we first sat down we were in front of Mike who I believe was mentioned below. Not really fast or personable and used waaay to much rice on our first order. After this another sushi chef came in front of us and it turned out to be an old friend/sushi chef of ours Weidong. He used to serve us at sushi club about 4 years ago and he remembered both of our "sushi affinities" and even our names. He turned our experience at sushi sake around completely. He was fast, courteous, and most of all extremely friendly and welcoming. To top it off he made the rolls with a perfect balance of fish to rice. I won't sit with any other chef when I come here now. Me and my wife dined here on a Friday .had couple orders Nigiri to start the sushi was fresh and had great flavor the real surprise the rice was great light and fluffy never experienced sushi rice like that before. When we ordered some appetizer's Tempura Veggies and Crab Won Ton's both were fresh and very good. We then ordered several different rolls everyone was good they never came apart as you grab them with the chop sticks made very well had him make a couple spicy with the habanero mayo excellent. The chefs and wait staff was on point answered a lot of questions and were very pleasant when you ordered. Our drinks were refilled often and the empty dish's picked up before they could pile up most places seem to have a hard time with this. They also have 2 TV's so you won't miss the game and the volume is turned down so you can carry on a conversation. We did not have room for desert so no comment on them. We stumbled across Sushi Sake while headed to Roxy's Steak and Seafood. Found out we could eat off the Roxy menu and get sushi if we sat at the Sushi Sake tables. In the end we had the all you can eat sushi; which of course was filling, but also absolutely delicious. The all you can eat option means you can order from the appetizers, sushi menu and dessert menu. The only exclusion is the deluxe rolls, but there are so many roll options we didn't miss not getting a deluxe roll. The fish was very fresh, the rolls assembled with terrific flavor and our waiter Julio was very attentive and helpful. It might be in a casino resturant, which I tend to avoid but this is one stop worth coming into!! read more

Horrible service. My husband and I thought we would try it out because we love Roxy's, just next door. When we walked up no one greeted us, everyone kept on working and ignoring that we were there. We saw a couple leave the sushi bar, so we thought we would just jump in. The host (twenty-something, blonde hair male) asked us snidely to move so he could clean the counter, which made it stickier. The host then left and we were left to stare at our menus for a length of time, he took our order and never offered us any drinks. We got our sushi and still no one to get us any water or any other sort of beverage. We finally asked our sushi chef to please have someone get us water, since it is very hard to eat sushi with nothing to drink. We thought the sushi was good, but the service is some of the worst we have ever had around town. I will definitely not be returning! read more

Don't even think about it. If you have already been exposed to Asian food culture, this place would be an absolute nightmare for you. They don't even know how to cook their rice properly. No offense to the people who have low standards for sushi, but this place is running its business off of people who don't know how real sushi tastes like. We did the all-you-can-eat deal, we ordered some nigiri and special rolls. First of all, they are extremely short-staffed, we waited almost 20 minutes before we were even looked at. When the food came, I immediately knew it was a mistake after my first bite. The rice was not sushi rice to begin with, and it felt like I was chewing on rubber band since it was so compressed. I've had bad sushi before, but nothing close to this. I advised the waiter about the situation, asked him what kind of rice they use, he then talked to the chef. I'm not going to mention the brand name, but it was of course the wrong kind. We tried to finish it as much as we could, but it was near impossible, so I told the waiter I'm sorry, we just can't do it. We were then told that there's an extra charge if we have excessive leftovers, and we can't place anymore orders unless we finish everything. I asked to speak to the manager, he said pretty much the same thing. I have nothing against them, because it's really not their fault, policy is policy, I totally understand where they stand. Not to mention, they missed about 3 orders we placed in the first place (the non-sushi items), we thought those could at least fill us up a little, but they never bothered to serve them to us after I made the complaint. At the end, I of course had to pay the full amount and left with a disappointed half-full stomach. They couldn't even offer us any dessert due to our leftovers. read more

I took my two daughters here, ages 14 and 11, they enjoyed it. We had the AYCE dinner. They did not mention that sake was included, tho I would not of had any, it's the point. They offered us miso soup when we sat down, we declined. Sushi chef was very nice to us. Sushi was very good overall, no mushy rice or old fish. My girls had the orange sorbet...OMG, that was soooooo good. The menu does not state you can only have one dessert, my youngest wanted to order a second one they would not let her (I removed a star for that). It's very noise, loud music playing. Tea was Stash Green Tea, not even an asian brand tea?! Wth?? AND they charge you for tea ($2.25 a pot, free refills as far as I know)! Even when you don't drink the free sake! Geez...wouldn't sake cost more that a tea bag and hot water?! Perhaps, I should remove another star?!! Overall it was good. read more

We went to Reno for a 2 day get away and found this all-you-can-eat sushi option. We loved this sushi bar because of the very good sushi and wonderful service. Our server Jonnie (who is a new manager) at the sushi bar was engaging and in the end was our favorite part of the experience. She gave my wife great advice on what to order based on what she wanted and the presentation was very nice. Every time I come to Reno I always make it a point to stop here. I love sushi and this place, in my experiences, has always performed. From the deluxe nigiri to the rolls that are stuffed, I always come back. They do get packed at times and since the seating is limited, big groups may wait. Knowing that, I go solo or go with my wife and get good service...and go big! At my last visit, Chef Michael took great care of me, along with Jonnie and the new guy Aldo. I love this place! Went last night for the first time with my wife. We decided to give it a shot since our favorite Kokopellis was packed with a 45 min. to an hour wait. We were seated at the bar immediately. Good things were that we a had a great chef which made our dinner experience a little better. Staff were very attentive in clearing our plates. Little rice and well done with just the right hint of vinegar topped with a decent portion of fish. You receive free appetizers with your AYCE. Bad things we're limited rolls and selection for AYCE. My wife had very long waits for her two a la carte choices granted they we're both cooked rolls,but when your chef ask 3 times about the first roll then made a complimentary free roll for her for having to wait so long on her second, thats too long of a wait. The fish, even though your given a nice portion, seemed like it had been frozen for a while before serving. On a couple pieces of my Fuji roll I got an aftertaste of a real fishy taste, which came through the gobs of wasabi I put on every piece I eat, hardly use soy sauce. The lemons on my salmon had noticable browning on the rind and on the inside, which worries me if you cant keep or use fresh lemons how cheap are you on your fish. The extra $1 charge on a la carte for your roll to be topped with crab I mean krab,yup the fake stuff which is actually inexpensive just check your local asian mart. Something I did'nt realize till afterwards, this place sits right outside Bistro Roxy 20ft away from the fountains and escalators with major foot traffic. You have people walking by sneezing, coughing,kicking up dust as you are eating, there is actually 2 tables in the middle of the foot traffic path with people brushing against you as you eat. All in all not a place we will be going back to or recomending nice chef or not. Next time we'll wait 2 hrs to eat at Kokopellis if we have to. read more

We came to visit the casinos and really wanted sushi. Stopped here during happy hour, so the AYCE was 24.00. We sat at the bar and the chef was funny and amusing. I tried to give this a chance twice but it couldnt make the cut. The sushi is ok at best. Roll's were very loose and crumble upon contact. Seafood was ok and fresh. Mussels have been continuously rubbery as bad as frozen bubble gum. The worst part about my dinner was the waitress johnnie.
