    Salmon Taco
    Jamie P.

I was a little apprehensive when we first arrived at the SLO Market location, I had made a reservation but it appeared that there was an order-at-counter and take your meal to-go situation, BUT behind the curtain sits a nice long sushi bar! We were seated and given our menus, water, etc. They do not make sushi rolls, which surprised and disappointed me. I have a select few rolls that I get every sushi place I attend to compare. (*You can order rolls at the counter outside of the seating area in a push pop form and get it to-go. ) We ordered the 3 sushi taco special and yakitori and a poke bowl. I was blown away at how good they all tasted! Literally could taste the level of high quality fish and product in the meals. (including the seaweed wrapping, which was the freshest, most flavor-popping I have ever tasted!) Everything was fresh and flavorful. My tastebuds were dancing and wanted more! The 3 tacos were excellent! The blue crab looked simple and I thought maybe I should ask for a drizzle of special sweet sauce, but after my first bite, I wanted nothing more than to taste every bite as it was presented. It was excellent. The Salmon was the same, so refreshingly delicious and the Spicy Tuna my husband owned... but I got to take a bite and it was excellent as well. My yakitori was perfectly seasoned and sweetened. Not too saucy and balanced. The chicken was plentiful (which was wonderful, usually I feel cheated on the proteins), tender and satisfying. My husband throughly enjoyed his Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl... as did I with the couple of bites he shared! the amount of tuna in it was impressive and so fresh! ...and protein levels satisfied my Moose of-a-husband. A wonderful surprise at the end with delicious matcha ice cream and the sweetest birthday card signed by all employees and a gift. Much appreciated! We will be back!

When hearing "sushi speakeasy" I immediately wanted to try this place and it did not disappoint! Walking in it's right in front but also so well hidden. The decor is great and the staff are friendly and professional. They were very accommodating of my service dog which means a lot. You are seated at a table that feels traditional to a sushi bar, with fun changing lights and eyeing the fish they use straight from Japan or Scotland. I was impressed by the quality of each dish. The sour shochu cocktail was spectacular too! The hand rolls were so good we ordered another round. The sushi tacos are a bit difficult to unwrap the plastic from the seaweed, but we were having such a great time it honestly is worth it. I will definitely be coming here around 11-2:30 for dim sum and trying their different options like the taro bao. If you're looking to celebrate your birthday, they also have a very cute way of celebrating! So appreciated and recommend trying this place if you're looking for fresh sushi and a good time.

I am sad that I didn't get to take pics of the wagyu nigiri, my 3 pc hand rolls and hubby's 5 pc sushi tacos. It's so dang good we had to order more wagyu nigiri and he ordered another set of 5pc taco sushi. This is our first time staying in SLO. We usually pass by here in the way to Cambria. Since we took the train this time, we decided to stay in SLO. We are so glad we did. This sushi spot is soo good! That wagyu nigiri melts in your mouth! And the fish and seaweed they use for their tacos and hand rolls are DIVINE. If you're in SLO- stop by. It's definitely worth it. Seating is casual. We opted to sit in the general dining room. The gentleman that took our order was so nice! Seriously- one of the best sushi places I have been to.

True Japanese sushi. Fresh and more expensive, but for a special meal like a birthday... it's a great casual go to in SLO Ranch. First, the service, not a sit down restaurant, but extra effort from the staff to bring things to our table was nice. Plates provided so we could share all we ordered and we got a lot! My favorite was the push up rolls. Have nicer had one and reminded me of the old "ice cream push up" but with spicy tuna green onions chopped very finely and great taste. Also had a tempura shrimp one. Both were great. A cool way of serving them w its own soy sauce spout! Waygu beef nigiri was a first for me - a Japanese way of serving a piece of fish or meat on top of rice. We tried yellow tail and salmon as well. The hand rolls were interesting in that you roll up into seaweed paper. A new great experience very different from your average sushi. Worth a try to support this new family's food. Share the food and the bill- and enjoy the cool SLO Ranch!

They have hand rolls, musubi and push pop rolls. Thing is, too much plastic for a sushi joint. I understand push pop is supposed to be a trend but the hand rolls and musubi do not need to be in plastic sleeves.

BEST sushi EVERRR!!! The service is great but the sushi is phenomenal. You will not be disappointed by this hidden gem that makes you feel like family.

My wife treated me to this new restaurant's RSVP only Omakase experience This place was packed and the staff were working hard, attempting to keep order and balance. Once seated, we were treated to 16 dishes by the main chef who trained in Japan, gained experience in NY and hails from Hong Kong. A very nice gentleman We were overall happy with the selections, the quality, and the friendliness. The scallops, tuna, salmon, and marbled beef were wonderful. The quality of the nori stood out too. Also the WASABI! Real wasabi, two different kinds. We look forward to going back for a la carte style. The simple tuna hand roll offered to me at the end was super memorable for some reason Small footprint located in the Ranch. Place was clean (and cluttered behind the chefs). Get there early and be prepared to wait, even with a reservation.

Great for those who love sushi! My husband enjoyed his sushi taco set. Being a non-seafood eater, I ordered the yakisoba but it was dry and underwhelming. We also ordered the wagyu nigiri but it was disappointing. They put ginger on too and it completely overpowered the taste if the meat. Being an expensive cut, it should have been the prominent flavor. Service was great, very personable, friendly people. The boba was decent. Overall, I don't recommend for the non-sushi items but my husband really enjoyed his order so it's worth trying if you like sushi.

FUXS GIVEN = 5.0 ******************* Food = 5 I got the 4 hand roll sampler and lived every single one. Each roll was hand crafted in front of me. It was both visually and gastronomically delightful. UX = 5 Love the bar vibe. You can sit, chat with the chef and order as you go. Service = 5 High class service.

If you're looking for a change from your normal sushi, this is the place to try! The raw fish itself was very good for the area. The unique part about these tacos, which I've never seen before, is that they plastic wrap the seaweed to keep it fresh right before you take a bite. This was different and honestly kind of difficult for everyone who go the sushi tacos. You find yourself having to grab the rice and fish from falling off the entire seaweed. We are outside in the courtyard and you have to still go back inside to pick up your food, which took a fair amount of time. The outdoor music for the market was perfect and we found ourselves there for a few hours. I was not blown away with these tacos but I will try the other popular ones next time.

It's trouble. I was here two weeks ago on a Monday around 12PM and I was the only customer dining in there. Two weeks later on a Monday again, but around 1PM, the dining area was surprisingly packed! Ramen bowl there, sushi order over there, the place was popping. I crave sushi almost all the time, and now that I know the sushi is high quality here, it's on my radar for lunch whenever I am closeby. I come for the sushi, but I come BACK for the dim sum that's in the front fridge cart on Mondays. They steam it nice and hot for me. I ate tonkotsu ramen with pork belly, accompanied with shu mai, ha gow and BBQ bao with leftovers to take home. My husband ordered 5 hand rolls and he ate it all! Needless to say, we'll be back.

Located in the new mall "The Eateries." Quality/Quantity - My daughter gave them 5 stars! She really enjoyed this dinner. I just had hand roll sushi at Jack London Square's Kuidaore Handroll Bar on 4/19/25; but you already know that because you are following. I am personally not wowed with this/these experiences. Maybe because I eat too much sushi...? Anyways, my daughter said this was 5 stars! We got the following: Two orders of the 3 hand roll sets - Can you believe I got a 3 roll and my daughter got the 4 roll. The 3 roll set comes with Sake, Hamachi and Spicy Tuna. Again, my daughter loved this. An order of the 4 hand roll set - Sake, Spicy Scallop, California and Shitake, Kanpyo & Avocado. Again, my daughter loved this! We are light eaters and just like my previous experience, I do not feel this type of eating is filling...? I also think maybe they can fill the rolls a little more...? See my pictures and then see their pictures on their website?!?! Maybe I should have tried the rice balls. Oh well, next time, if my daughter wants to come back. I really liked the pickled wasabi. So different and good. Two drinks - Okinawa Milk Tea Boba and a Strawberry. She also loved her drink. Atmosphere - Very small location. Bar seating only, unless you take to go and eat at the food courts shared tables. Open 6 days a week from 11am to 8pm; closed Tuesdays. Yelp and their website's hours differ. Plenty of mall parking. We could have actually walked from Embassy Suites. Shared mall restrooms, I think you need a code. Service - Good. Sushi bar service. The team was very friendly and welcoming. The team made the wrong drink for my daughter and had to remake the drink but gave her the wrong one also. Good service. So she got two drinks. I am sure this was part of her reasoning for giving 5 stars. :) Price - $88 + tip. Included a 3% credit card charge. Just like my Kuidaore (Oakland, CA) review, I felt expensive compared to my Mujiri (Hayward, CA) review. Feels like I am eating Japanese often, lol. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since February of this year 2025.

    Marlena M.

A friend and I chose to eat here based on a video we had seen on the 14 course omakase. It did not disappoint. All the fish was fresh and the owner did a great job of explaining what part of the fish it was from and where it was sourced from. It is hands down the best quality sushi in our area of the central coast. I cannot wait to go back and try other items on the menu.

The carrot cake (radish cake) could use some work but everything else was decent.

One thing we noticed is that the staff communicates real well which makes everything run super smooth. Prawn balls- crispy on the outside and very well cooked on the inside! Easily my fav of the dishes we tried. Prawns had so much natural flavor that it was better without the sauce. The chili sauce was also delicious. Portions are a tad on the small side but taste very good. Turnip cakes- not my favorite. All I could taste was the flavor of fried food and soy sauce. It was salty and that's about all the flavor I got. The cilantro meant to cut through, I'm assuming, but it didn't quite do much. Shu Mai- this was another pleasant dish. Good dough but maybe too much filling? It ate thicker than I'm used to but it was still good flavor. Again, portion is small. Overall this was a nice treat to go with the wine we had. I think we would probably come back and try some other things. If you want to eat while drinking, check this place out.

Kept our waters full and checked on us several times during our visit. Let's get down to it. The moment that counts. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. They were FANTASTIC. They were stuffed with a feta type cheese and were absolutely delish! My main dish wass the Filet Mignon. I ordered it medium. It came with veggies and mashed potatoes. When the steak showed up it looked good and I cut into the steak. It was done to perfection. It had some kind of JD whiskey sauce on it. I took a bite and it was awesome. SO much flavor.
