All-you-can-eat sushi can be tricky. As someone who likes their maki without tempura shrimp or anything to do with crab, I greatly appreciate that the menu is vast and has something for everyone. There is also a generous selection of hot and cold appetizers as well as desserts. I was able to try the Caterpillar Roll, the Spicy 2-in-1, Crab Rangoons, and for dessert, a Macaron and a Tempura Oreo (tempura isn't all bad). The Food: Crab Rangoons: These were A-Ok. They may not have gotten out of the fryer a minute before hitting the plate, but they didn't taste like they had been sitting under a lamp a long time, either. They were well-balanced in terms of dough and filling. The filling was appropriately crabby and a little on the sweeter side. Caterpillar Roll: This was delightful. It was a simple eel and cucumber roll, but it was well-executed. Everything seemed fairly balanced, and I devoured it with no shame. Spicy 2-in-1: This roll has the chopped-style fish, which, while not my favorite thing in the world, is common. What I do appreciate is the sheer amount of protein this roll contained--it's essentially a roll and a half! Other than the generous amount of fish, this roll doesn't have anything that makes it stand out. Don't get me wrong, it's by no means bad, just not knock-your-socks-off. Dessert: Macaron: This was severely underwhelming. Macarons are all about the texture, and this one didn't have it. It was fine in terms of flavor, but there's more to them than that. Tempura Oreos: These were a bit better as far as desserts go. It was on the simpler side--an Oreo breaded in tempura and fried. Fair food, essentially! It was something a little different and interesting, though to be fair, not out of this world amazing. The Service What was incredible was the service. It was not only kind, polite, and attentive, but unbelievably fast. I could not believe how quickly my rolls, rangoons, and desserts came out. Whoever is running the show deserves a fat raise! Final Verdict As far as AYCE sushi goes, while Sushi Taku isn't incredible, AYCE rarely is. However, you get an extremely solid product at a fair price and S-tier service most places would and should envy. It has been awhile since the last time I visited an AYCE sushi restaurant. This "Sushi Taku" location in Logan Square is their newer location and it is a bit closer by driving. The policy for their AYCE is, first of all, no leftovers ($1 per piece left behind) and the entire party would need to participate AYCE. My partner and I were there for lunch on a weekday ($24.99/person, as of 12/22/25). The menu offerings were the typical appetizers, california rolls, and nigiri, except the dessert portion would only be available for dinner AYCE. I personally have been rusty at tackling AYCE and one should factor in the wait time and items that may be heavy on fillings (i.e. smoked salmons rolls with cream cheese inside). I would say the seafood was fresh, yet some of then were chewy and required a few more bites before sending them to the next stage of digestion. Out of many we sampled, I enjoyed the rainbow rolls the most and the spicy ones (Phoenix Fire Dragon rolls with a plenty of hot sauce on top) The restaurant appeared to be well-lit with a plenty of south-facing windows. The booth seating was comfortable and we were there for the entire time allowance for AYCE (1.5 hours). Paid street parking was easy to find. In additions, service was adequate, considering there was one young lady primarily covering the entire restaurant during lunch hours. We will be back, yet not too soon. Good sushi spot in a convenient location that's great for big groups. Came in for dinner on a Tuesday night and we were seated right away, started out quiet but it got decently busy for a Tuesday which surprised me. Food came out quickly and was good and we had incredibly attentive service. For areas of improvement: The sushi rice wasn't as sticky as what you would normally expect and a lot of the rolls or nigiri would unstick as you are trying to eat them which was annoying. Not all but enough that it made it into this review. For AYCE sushi I do think it's pricier than what I've seen at other establishments. Little sad that there were no sushi boats either. read more

Well this is an updated review today going there. So I am reducing my review to 2 stars now out of shock. I had a craving for Sushi Taku and have been going there more than 3 times both alone and with Friends that I introduced the place for dining in. I had a really old time friend who lives in the city And I wanted him to try the fresh sushi we arrived around 315 pm. This time since they are strict in paying the city meter I paid $5 max hour. As we entered to dine in I had a rude Asian greeter who has the audacity that they cant serve us because they stop at 330 PM? Really!?!?!. Why did you NOT lock the door if you do NOT want customers to come in if you take a close between 330 and 430 pm? I was really disappointed if not upset and so was my friend. If you did not want to have customers come in even around 3 pm in the afternoon than lock your door. I hate to update my review like this to 2 stars but I did NOT like the way the greeter answered me with apologies and then expects ups to wait an hour? I and my friend was hungry. DO NOT come here around 315 pm as they are rude staff!!!! If such the case lock the door!!! Until 430 pm!!! Went to Sushi Taku for my first time tonight and it did not disappoint! I ordered the miso soup, avocado rolls, and cucumber rolls and all were very good. I honestly don't normally gravitate towards sushi but my fiancé loves it so I figured I'd give it a try and I enjoyed it more than expected. For dessert, we got the strawberry mochi and tempura oreos which were fantastic. I will admit our food took a while to come out but I also acknowledge they were very busy not only with table service but also with to-go orders and taking that into account, it was faster than it could have been. We went with all you eat menu on 4th of July for $31.99. This location seems newer than the Wicker Park location and certainly not as busy. Very family friendly environment as toddlers can eat for free if 1+ person orders buffet. Their menu is on the smaller side compared to Mira Sushi in Chinatown. Although food quality seems better and less salty. My personal favorites include spicy salmon, sesame balls and eel nigiri. Wonderful experience! Fills the Ayce cravings. They had a new octopus karaage, which was wonderful. Tiny Octo's nice and crispy morsels, we ordered several of those. Scallop is on the Ayce for dinner which is a big reason why I wanted to check this out again. This is our preferred AYCE sushi place. We came and had made a reservation ahead of time. One of the things that I like about this AYCE place is the scallops. There are not many other AYCE sushi places that have scallops on the menu. The rice is good and not overwhelming. On the first pass of sushi the rice is actually less than future orders it seemed. We started off with an order of their fried Gyoza. These were a little on the small side, but still very delicious. We ordered a total of 6 different rolls and they were all delicious. Salmon roll-simple, salmon tasted fresh, this was my daughters favorite. Crazy Tuna Roll-I ordered this one because it had 2 spicy next to it, but it was not spicy at all. Caterpillar roll-I usually get this at every sushi place. You can never go wrong with avocado. Also came with eel sauce, eel and cucumber. Really good. Volcano-This was definitely my favorite. Love the presentation on this one. It came with cream cheese, avocado, spicy tuna, jalapeño and then fried and topped with eel and spicy Mayo. Love the crunch that this one has and then the combination of flavors. Crispy Roll-Similar in appearance and taste as the Volcano roll, another delicious roll. This one came with smoked salmon, avocado, asparagus, cream cheese and then fried and topped with spicy Mayo and eel sauce. Shrimp Tempura Roll-Another simple classic. You can never go wrong with shrimp tempura, some more avocado, cucumber and then topped with eel sauce. Overall I was very satisfied with everything we ordered including their service. Great AYCE for the price point! The fish was fresh and specialty rolls were very good. My favorites were the tuna cucumber roll, spicy scallop roll, and salmon avocado. The only thing I wish were different is the nigiri come with less rice - it's a large amount of rice per piece but makes sense for AYCE. It was my friend's bday and they were great about decorating a dessert plate for our celebration. Service was great too, and the server was attentive to us. Some of the best (if not the best) AYCE sushi deals I've encountered! For lunch, it's $23 for AYCE on their full menu. I feel like that's unheard off these days. Plus, you can order multiple times. Their sushi was also very fresh. Their salmon and tuna were fatty and succulent. The bites were petite but that just mean you can eat more and try more sushis. Their rolls were also very creative. Sushi Taku is my go-to AYCE sushi spot in Chicago. I've been to quite a few AYCE sushi places, but somehow I always end up back here. There is a special type of joy in getting a piece of paper and being able to order whatever you want. This joy is amplified at Sushi Taku, with the price being just under $30 before any tax or tip. I love that they have a wide selection of appetizers, nigiri, and rolls. I can pretty much have a different meal every time I come just because of the variety! For example, they have hamachi kama (yellowtail collar) as an appetizer option, which easily runs you at least $10 in any other sushi restaurant. The most important part about sushi to me is the fish quality. Even though it's an AYCE, Sushi Taku still serves high quality fish. The salmon is always on point, and their white tuna (actually escolar) is super fatty and delicious. Unlike some other places, they don't seem to intentionally put giant pieces of rice for each nigiri to try to fill you up. The rolls are creative and stuffed full of ingredients, with a nice (high) ratio of fillings to rice. Even though I try not to go to AYCE restaurants as much anymore since I always end up overeating, Sushi Taku holds a special place in my heart so I can't resist.
