The idea of a sushi train is really cool. You don't have to wait to be served bc the food rides past and you get what you want as soon as you see it. I thought the taste of the sushi was just ok. I really like sushi so I felt it wasn't the best. I got the lunch special which is all you can eat for $10.50. What I didn't like was that they charge if you don't eat everything you choose. This meant that I was forced to eat a couple of items that I did not find appetizing bc I didn't want to be charged. Also I couldn't share with my friend without being charged so that sucked. The 'All You Can Eat Dinner' option is totally worth it if you're using the Groupon deal. Otherwise, everything is overpriced and mediocre in my opinion. I usually come here when I'm super hungry and craving unlimited but simple sashimi. If you're doing All You Can Eat, remember you can order anything from the menu in addition to the items on the conveyer belt! My favorite small plate is the Yellowtail w/ Jalapeno. Service starts out alright and quick in the beginning, but it ends up slowing down later when they underestimate your ability to eat more. I've had to wait for long periods of time to order something else off the menu several times. The servers are friendly, but the place is definitely understaffed. My husband and I are both HUGE sushi fans and we have met our match with this place. It is $20 a person for all you can eat sushi. We were in heaven! They have so many specialty rolls and then they have the classics like the California roll. It's a great way to venture out and find new sushi. However, they do charge you $1 for every piece of sushi you leave on your plate. My husband was determined to not let that happen. He even ate the rest of this weird fruit I had grabbed to try. Very fun place! It was exciting to watch the train go by and to pick whatever you wanted. The service was very attentive, but our server never explained to us how things worked so we just winged it. It's AYCE, but I do believe he was asking some of the tables if they were ordering that or off menu. We were there specifically for AYCE though. The food wasn't awesome. You can definitely get better sushi and Chinese options around, but for $19.99 per person for whatever you can eat.. it's a steal! We both left extremely full. We bought the groupon so for two people, 2 cokes, and a $10 tip we only paid $40 for A LOT of food (my boyfriend had 20 plates after it was all said and done!) I have only eaten Sushi Train one time. Although I am not a big fan of sushi, I thoroughly enjoyed the teriyaki shrimp dish I had. My wife also ordered from the menu and enjoyed it. When I want sushi I mean, I want SUSHI! This place is nothing like anything I've ever been to. You just sit and the food rolls by your face. You open the door, grab you some grub and chow. You can also order from the menu ANYTHING YOU WANT and it's included in the $20 all you can eat cost. When I go again I'll be sure to order my favs then supplement with the train while I wait or after I've eaten everything else. This review is specially for their lunch all you can eat sushi. They charge 10.50 and any decent sushi on a red colored plate is an additional $2.95 per plate. Where they get you is that the sushi train consist of cake and fruit cups for about 75% of the train. Then they throw in super basic rolls which most contain crab. There are not even options to grab a nicer roll and pay extra. Super disappointing. Going to leave here and have to get lunch somewhere else because they literally didn't have food on the train. We come here maybe once a year because it is fun for a change, and the sushi is decent enough. It's not the best sushi in the world, but it's okay and it's nice that it's unlimited. You do have to wait a lot for a good plate to come by, especially if it's busy. The staff are often not the friendliest, but it just depends. It's also not the cleanest place to dine, in my opinion. Absolute worst food I have ever paid $40 for. My daughter and I ordered two rolls to start off and they were just awful. We also ordered the steak fried rice lunch meal again terrible and cold. We had one bite of each and left...waitress asked if we wanted a box and we explained that it was not good and it was cold in front of who I imagined to be the manager.....neither one blinked an eye they took my money and never offered an apology or thank you for coming in...nothing. One word for all of this was, disappointed. I was expecting a great experience here and even after reading some of the bad reviews, I didn't expect to have mediocre sushi. We did the all you can eat option and you can take particular sushi. The ones that were raw smelled strong of fish (fresh sushi doesn't), and the ones that were fried were soggy and cold. *Review for Dinner, for lunch review, read previous review* I don't like to brag, but I'm currently the duke of Sushi Train. We've only ever been here for lunch. Lunch is $8.99 & a pretty good deal for the sushi they serve. We bought a Groupon for $20 that give you $30 to use for 'Dinner Only'. We tried out Sushi Train dinner at 7ish on a Sunday night. For dinner, they've got the menu & train you can order from, or you can do the "All You Can Eat" deal for $17.99. The all you can eat entails ANYTHING from the train, including red plates. Being is that I've only been to the lunch train, which only allows plates that aren't red (red plates cost $4), it felt odd grabbing a red plate! You're also able to order Chinese food, hibachi food & any of the rolls listed on the menu. Most of those rolls were on the train, but you can request fresh rolls, but only 3 rolls at a time, this is so you won't order a ton of stuff & not eat it. They've also recently instated a policy in which if you leave more than 3 pieces of sushi, the next piece is $1. Therefore if you left 5 pieces, you've be charges $2. This has never happened to us as we are pros at riding the train. Dinner train is different from the lunch train in price, & variety. The lunch train is reasonably priced, but you don't see a whole lot of variety. The dinner train had rolls with raspberries on them. Also, dinner allows for other options. We tried the crab Rangoon & the spring rolls. Both were obviously frozen then fried. The wonton on the Rangoon was very thick & hard to chew. We didn't get anything from the Chinese section, but we did order a shrimp hibachi & a chicken hibachi. I was surprised with how big the portion was. I enjoyed the shrimp, not chewy as id expected. The rice has a smokey flavor, not sure where that was from. The yum yum/white sauce was good. Not bad for hibachi. Service is never a strong suit of Sushi Train. They servers aren't very friendly & can take a while to check back with you. On the dinner side of things, it was a little better than lunch, I guess because the server has to check to see if you want anything from the menu during dinner. I'd like a more attentive staff, but for lunch it's not too bad unless you need a refill on a drink. The variety of sushi is stepped up compared to lunch. It's also nice to get the red plates that have more 'exotic' rolls. The freshness was pretty good. We sat forwards the front of he train, where we could see when the new rolls were put in, which was nice. Overall, for $17.99 you've got a lot of options. I enjoyed the hibachi but wasn't crazy about the Rangoon or spring rolls. With the Groupon, it saved some money & was $35ish for two with tip as opposed to $45ish without the Groupon. Our family of four goes to lunch at Sushi Train on rare occasions, when our kids request it for their birthdays. They love it. It's safe-bet, run-of-the-mill sushi (a somewhat limited selection of nigiri and uramaki styles). The convey belt is cool (refrigerated tubes), and it's fun environment. Service is decent. And prices are high--beware the red plates, which can add up to a $70+ meal for 4. But seasoned sushi lovers stand to be disappointed. The ingredients are lower quality, and there is not a lot of creativity. At times, the train can even be slow to be restocked, leaving you waiting too long to grab the next plate. It's ok. read more

I honestly just didn't like the food and I tried a lot of things. The sweet and sour chicken wasn't good, the sushi was ok, but kind of salty for some reason and was falling apart and the fried rice had a weird taste to me. I don't know, didn't like it at all. Sushi Train takes your average sushi experience and puts it on wheels. When I first walked in, I didn't expect the whole restaurant to be one big conveyor belt. That was pretty neat. Like the serving style, the atmosphere was very modern too. Lots of natural textures and bright colors. Sure, the sushi isn't the best Nashville has to offer but I thought all around it was alright. Some of it was definitely Publix quality, but you'll have that. The best roll I had was some Crazy Girl roll that had eel. It definitely didn't make me sick AT ALL so don't believe that malarkey. haha.
